Technical, detailed manual on how to build a rocket mass heater. Plans, drawings, specs, equations - it's all here.
To be honest, I wanted to know the theory and not the step by step, so I read the first couple of chapters and skimmed the technical building chapters.
I learned quite a bit about rocket mass heaters, and when they're a good idea abs when they're not. That's what I wanted, and that's what this book delivered.
This read includes Eve aspect off rocket stove construction for home heating. Lots of design calculations and considerations that require proper rocket stove construction. My only criticism is to add one complete set of readable plans and specs along with the proper code and legal boiler-plating. Overall, San excellent resource.
Highly recommend if you are planning on building a rocket mass heater, although they're are plenty of similar books this is my favorite so far, I'll come back and update after we actually build one 😅
All the information in here could easily have fit into a hundred page book. Environmentally themed books that are overly repetitive, and that therefore use 3 or 4 times more paper than necessary, are a serious pet peeve of mine. Other than that though, this does a great job explaining everything you need to know about the subject. This is definitely an important topic that more people should look into.
To me, a rocket mass heater is more theoretical than practical; I do not live in the sort of residence suitable for such a device. This book is more practical than theoretical, and did not hold my interest.
It seems like a good book for what it is, but what it isn't is for me.
