4 Team Rowan Gresham all the way because I'm a sucker for a redeemable hero stars! As soon as I finished this novel I literally said, ":sigh: I'm all for a redeemable hero so Ewan just isn't working out for me, I love Rowan Gresham." I can't help it, nobody wants the safe and boring choice, come on! I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself and need to reign myself back in.
This is book two in the series and picks off right where the first book ends. Stella learns Gresham's position which sends her into a panic attack. She feels betrayed by the one person she felt she could trust but that doesn't last long when the undeniable attraction tugs at them and he apologizes. What does last is her distrust of Gresham which he proves he earned time and again. Stella gets closer to her friends and eventually turns to Ewan after separating herself from Gresham.
Gresham has done what he believed to be fair and just given his position and his feelings towards Stella. He has omitted many pieces of information in hopes of protecting her which, when exposed, only further makes her feel betrayed by him. Gresham is stuck between a rock and a hard place with his ever growing desire and feelings for Stella and his duty to protect his people.
Heartbreak, betrayal, loss, and dangerous situations fill this novel. Even while Stella and Gresham are being pulled apart there's an underlying tone of them needing and reaching for one another. There's a cliffhanger as there's another book and Stella may just need Gresham now more than ever with the stakes at the highest they've ever been in her life.
I actually didn't like this book as much as the first one. The writing is still excellent and the character development is good I just became irritated at Stella and her boyfriends. I grant you that Gresham was kind of a douche but tattling to her powerful uncle was childish. And I don't like Ewan. He is fast sliding to controlling, abusive boyfriend. He stakes his claim on her like she was a chair at the table. If I was her I'd be telling him to find somewhere else to sit. Anyway, Excellent writing, cool concept.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review
I am actually quite disappointed with this book, I really did not enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed the first book. I really wanted to but by the end of the book I really just wanted to finish it off and be done with it.
Stella finds out she is an Omni (having the ability to take multiple forms), coming from such a powerful background Stella is in danger, with trouble being around the corner Stella has no choice but to turn to her friends.
I am not sure why but I find Stella quite annoying, she never did what she said. I found her being told what to do rather than thinking for herself. Also, moving from one guy to another after stating she doesn't want to that quickly but then turns on her word? Like what is up with that. I found her decisions to be impulsive at time, she never really was thinking what she was doing or how her decision would impact her and other people.
Ewan, I am not so sure how I feel about him. I have mixed feelings. In the first book, I was really enjoying getting to know him, he is perceptive, smart, a loyal friend not to mention a hottie. What could be more perfect than that? But in this book I don't quite like how he goes after Stella even though she says to him she doesn't want to move on to another guy yet. Like Stella I also found him to be impulsive sometimes but I wonder if that is due to him changing in to a wolf?
Boone and Timbra really saved the story with this one, its unfair of how other forms of animal cannot fall in love and produce offspring? Stella is a clear example of that you can so I am confused.
Also, Gresham lies too much, I wonder if he has an ulterior motive? It was good to see Stella join her Uncle who only turns out to be the President of Thayer.
There was too much stuff happening and too quick, I felt like I did not have time to adjust myself to one dilemma before I had to move on to another one. I suppose one issue could be the length of gap I have left between the two books which is only myself to blame really.
Where do I begin with my review, regarding this incredible fantasy book that is Origin Exposed?!?! It was a potent dose of excitement mixed with fire and suspense. I L-O-V-E-D it!!!+++ (Yes, that's right. This book gets 3 exclamation marks plus 2 thumbs up and a shiny, gold star.) I kid you not, book two was even better than book one.
In this book, we get to take a closer look at the lives and relationships of the characters who were introduced in the first book. We get to learn about the fire dragons, we get to hear about the taboo associated with mixed breed relationships, we get to see the power plays and manipulations of those who should have been looking out for the good of Stella and her friends, and so much more. What completely gut-punched me though was the rightness...umm...wrongness (???squeak) of Stella and Ewan. I cannot not believe I'm saying this, but I, the strong Stell-Ro supporter and cheerleader, really loved how Ewan came across in this book. (Well, minus the caveman rigidity when he sought answers about the mystery dragon. Still, I adored his genuine passion and heart interest in Stella.)
The unexpected twists that came with the final two conflicts in this book had me on pins and needles. I could say more (trust me, I totally could), but I won't. All I know is that at the end of the day, I am well and truly hooked on this series. Bring it!

Where to start. I LOVED this book. I as almost nervous to start the book because I was afraid, like so many other books, that the second would not compare to the first. But it was just as good if not better.
I really felt for all the characters in this book. The emotions run so deep with each page I read, I was nervous and on edge one minute, excited another, heartbroken later and then laughing out loud. The fact that this author can create such great characters (some of which are inanimate objects) absolutely amazes me.
Stella had a lot on her plate in this book, I find I related to her even more in this book as I followed along with her emotions, fears and choices. I love how she can have so much on her plate, and still get caught up with relationships. There is more than one love interest for Stella in this series and I have picked my team!!
The world created in this series is addicting. When I think about where the book ended, I have hopes for what will happen next. I'm excited to see the choices that will be made by each character moving forward. The adventure gets more intense as it moves on, this book left me on edge wondering whats going to happen now?
I give this book 5 very BIG stars and recommend it to anyone who loves good character development, exploring new worlds, and fantasy!
Origin Exposed picks up almost exactly where Rare Form left off. We know that Stella is a descendant of the dragons that terrorized Thayer all those years ago. Stella and Gresham decide to keep that a secret so everyone doesn't hate her or try to kill her.
In Origin Exposed, we find out that Gresham isn't who he says he is and that his relationship with Stella may not be entirely genuine. Grisham also wants stell to help him catch the dragon, her family, to kill them. Knowing this Stella pulls away and throws herself into the arms of her friends. While out at a retreat Stella, and her friends, end up in danger when one of the other dragons ends up having horrible ideas about what should happen now that Stella is alive and in Thayer.
I have to say that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did Rare Form. I raved about Rare Form when I read it and I found myself lacking interest in Origin Exposed. I adored Stella and Gresham and the heat between the two in book one and I really missed that in book 2. Stella's new Love interest, Ewan, just doesn't do it for me. I find him kind of possessive. Not in the good " I love you so much I have to have you way" but in a "I want you regardless of your feelings" kind of way. This may be because I felt so strongly for Gresham though.
I enjoy the characters a lot in this series. I love Stella's roomate. Shes adorable and kinda fiesty. P.I.A is a total riot. I'm a big fan of Stella too. Shes relatable (for a dragon) and I enjoy being on her journey to find out who she is and what she will become.
Unfortunately I found this book kind of anti climactic. Its not a bad book, by any means, but I expected it to cover more about the Evil Brundbah and this book didn't go into that at all. I'm really hoping that book 3 ties that story in and it goes full circle.
All in all, I found this book good but not great. I will definitely continue on with the series when the next book come out!
This was a great book! I loved how different it is, yet very similar to other dragon books I've read in the past. This book got down in the nitty gritty about Stella's past and she had to make a lot of tough decisions, which didn't leave her with very great options by the end of this book.
Stella just wants to be loved. Sure, her mom gave her all the love she could when she was younger, but having other family members love is definitely different than a mother's love. Also, her mother was a little zoned out and weird when she was little, so the love Stella did get was a bit...spaced out. So I can definitely see her dilemma when it comes to all of the new relatives she's just found out she has and she wants to get to know all of them.
Stella is a bit too trustworthing, but I think she is starting to guard her heart a bit more now that it's been scorned a few times since she found out about her abilities. I do have to say, with the love triangle thing that was from the previous book? I like where things are leading at the end of this book. I'm not giving it away if she is with Rowan Gresham or Ewan or another character. You will have to read it for yourself to figure it out. But I'm very, very pleased :)
The only thing I'm angry about is that the next book is not available!! I need the next book!! This is why I hate reading series books when the series isn't complete...
Oh well, I'll just have to wait. I will definitely be recommending this series to all of my friends! Love it!
I was chomping on the bit to have this story and see where things would take Stella, Gresham and Ewan, and boy was I NOT disappointed!
There are once again, more plot twists and turns than you can shake a stick at, with the action coming thick and fast. Every page is completely imbued with emotions, whether it is sadness or joy. There were times when I thought my own heart was breaking and it wasn't even one of the main characters!
As for Stella, Gresham and Ewan themselves - Stella has a lot on her plate in this book. She does insist on keeping secrets from those who care about her, which isn't altogether surprising as she keeps being told not to say anything to anyone. To be honest, I was a bit surprised at the reaction to Gresham. It's not like anything he has said or done has been that well hidden so it took me a while to understand her 'over-reaction'. To be fair though, I'm more than happy with how things are turning out with Ewan! Can I just add though, that since Jen has proven herself to be a wicked author, I'm not banking on anything with anyone until I see it in print! ;)
An excellent continuation of the series and I really can't wait for more. Definitely recommended.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *
Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Oct 23, 2015
I was given this arc book in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this title.
Origin exposed continues exactly where rare form left off, with the exception of digging deeper into the life of Stella with more action, drama, tearing of the heart, and exposing intentions.
Origin exposed gravitates us to forbidden relationships in which must be kept under radar. We are not only invited to see the troubles of Stella, but also those she surrounds herself with. We begin to see compassion, fear, and courage wrapped up into one.
Stella begins to expose her heart but also protects it with her witty ways and quirky characteristics. She also gets the wool put over her eyes when it comes to protecting her new found family, her secrets, and her friendships.
Origin exposed will keep you on your toes with twists and turns and a possible conclusion. However, I do believe Jen crane will leave our minds wondering if this truly is the end of the road…..
After receiving the first book as an ARC (which I loved) I went in and pre ordered this one.
My thoughts? Jen Crane, I don't know if there is going to be a third book. I really hope there will be and I'm fully vested in this series, I love it! Stella is intelligent, knows how to be a leader and when to be a follower. The supporting characters so far all have depth and aren't just space fillers, (which I also love) they don't detract from the main storyline. Even PIA with the comebacks had me chuckling.
There is no cliffhanger, but you are definitely left thinking "no, this can't be it".
Both books were awesome and very well written. I even it bought the second book, however at the end of second book the story was not completed. The books ending was not satisfactory and left wide open. Would have never continued this series had I known it that it was going to have an ending.
Ok, so I kept reading this series, and I think I will read the next book as well because I like the idea of the story, and I would I to see where it goes. HOWEVER, I did not think that this book reached its full potential, and, quite honestly, I thought that this book was a tad tedious. Stella had such potential to be an awesome protagonist, but the author transformed her in to somewhat of a simpering damsel. That's not to say that the author did not try to make her seem stronger, I'm just saying that the effort fell somewhat short. Throughout this book, her romantic interests shift constantly and she seems very shallow. She doesn't appear to have any emotional depth and seems preoccupied with only herself. She is entirely too naive, and she trusts everyone too much. I may be contradicting myself slightly, but Stella was also arrogant and entirely too forward at times, and she acts rashly and without thought on multiple occasions. For example, she confronts her friend's father full on in an emotional outburst without having ever met him before. Overall, I find Stella to be a very immature and underrated character, and because the novel includes very few details about the other characters and focuses almost solely on her, I will say that she is my main problem with this book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Well, I was wrong about this one - Not only did this series not improve, it got more boring. Stella is just not a likable character, and the new love interest is a tool. Skip it!
In this installment of Descended of Dragons, Stella's world is changing even more. Now that she knows she's an omni--a shifter who can change into any animal-- as well as a dragon shifter, she must learn to harness her powers. On top of that, she's descovered that she has family on the dragon side, which isn't such a good thing. After all, her family are the ones that the folktales are about. They are the dragons whom the sorcerer enslaved and had kill thousands of Thayerians. Needless to say, being a dragon--while being completely awesome-- is not a good thing to be, especially when your mother and family where the dragons that almost killed entire species in Thayer.
Origin Exposed has a lot more action than Rare Form. Now that Stella knows what she is, she's now trying to learn how to use her newfound powers. Not only that but she tries to connect with her grandmother, uncle, and cousin without anyone knowing, in order to learn more about her dragon side. Of course, that poses a lot of problems in itself for obvious reasons. I was actually surprised to see that there was a lot less happenings while attending Radix than in the previous book. The author really focused more on Stella and building her character than her day to day life in school. I will be honest and say that I was a little sad that the school took a backseat in this one. I was really interested in the workings of what goes on in all these magical classes and was hoping for more of that Harry Potter feel of experiencing the unknown.
Alas, the romance heats up more in this book but not in the way I would have thought... and I LOVED it. I loved the turn the author took with it. Mainly because I love the dynamics of the two. I love the connection that they have and how well they just fit. I really wish I could go into it but it's kind of a plot twist in this novel and I don't want to give anything away. ;)
I was really captivated by Origin Exposed. I found myself forgetting about dinner on the stove (not the safest thing), staying up late reading until my eyes couldn't stay opened anymore, I even put in earplugs while the Mr. watched the NBA playoffs in order to continue reading the book without distraction. While this doesn't necessarily end on a cliffhanger, I am dying to get my hands on the next book. I need to know what's next for Stella.
Favorite part....
"You're my business, whether you like it or not. And stop trying to fix me up with Emrynne. With anyone. I don't need your help when it comes to women." "Yeah, I noticed," I grumbled. "Good. Keep your nose out of my bed. Unless you want to be the one in it, in which case you're welcome any time."
I've been underwhelmed by the second book and the series so far. I reluctantly like Stella. She's quirky, funny, and bold of speech. She's certainly memorable. Unfortunately she seems to be stuck in her early teens, what with all her wining and bursting into tears every other chapter. Add to that her frequent running and hiding motif...let's say I was more than a little annoyed with her lack of brains and agency. Of course, I have never been a fan of the damsel in distress needing to be rescued by someone, anyone, long as he's an available male.
Plot wise, the story didn't advance much. Stella pursues another romance despite the fact she has the emotional maturity of a tween, and probably fancies herself in love (rolls eyes). Too bad her sexapades are always with characters who don't actually feel like people because they seem to just be placeholders. I can only hope future books try to develop these male characters out so I actually feel invested in them.
Overall, while I find the world interesting and some of the secondary female characters, I feel like the main character is struggling with tween drama and hysterics rather than the very real adult issues in front of her. It's a hard dichotomy to reconcile.
This book DEFINITELY answered more questions than the first and I loved it. I love how sensible Stella is. I love how protective Ewan and Boone are. I love how are all her friends are supportive and understanding to her situation. I have to say though, I could see the Stryde situation coming a mile away and I'm not sure how Stella didn't. I mean, given how he was insane when he was a dragon, I don't know how she didn't expect him to be insane as a human. I'm so glad Rowan's true colors came out and I really hope that after that suspenseful ending, Stella still has a friend in the Prime Minister because I really liked him. Ah! I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
I really like the overall storyline and the increasing twists to Stella's background. What I don't like is when the writer leads the reader toward a growing relationship and then changes course mid-stride. Gresham was being built up as the one and then he is a controlling monster? The change was too quick and so obvious as to move Ewan right in. Since the heroine is a bit older (22 vs 17), I would expect the character to be a bit more mature but she reads like a much younger girl. I stay interested in how the story will develop but I'm hoping Stella turns less flaky and more centered.
I hate when I finish a book and realize the next book is not available, especially when things are getting good. A lot happened in this book and not all of it is good. Stella is now lost and does not know what to do or where to go, but at least she has her friends standing by her. I really have the hots for Ewan and I really wish I had a Ewan of my own. I cannot wait to see what happens next between Stella, Ewan and Gresham.
Oh wow! Even better then the first book. I found myself cheering, laughing, and crying startling my family so much my husband asked what I was reading.. I told him that it was almost as good as a Terry Pratchett book! Which is high praise indeed. I am eagerly awaiting number three.
I loved both books in this series so far! If I had to say anything negative about them, it would be they weren't as long as I would have liked... and that really just goes to show how much I really liked them! So now I will just wait patiently for the next one! If at all possible! Brightest Blessings ~MystycWytch
I love this series! You never know what's going to happen and with who. It's at times a pain in the butt because let's be honest two hot guys to choose from is a difficult choice until one turns into an ass. I'm team whoever doesn't betray her!
