Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (pen-name: Mœbius) was a French artist, cartoonist, and writer, who worked in the Franco-Belgian bandes dessinées tradition. Also published as Jean Giraud.
Wow, this may be the best single Moebius book I've read. It's a collection of his full-color Heavy Metal short stories including The Long Tomorrow. Incredible drawing and the stories are fun.
Mais um álbum com a fantástica arte do mestre Moebius, aliada às suas ideias provocadoras. São histórias estranhas, tristes e belas, ou seja, muito humanas.
Various Heavy Metal short stories from Moebius. Highlights are the Dan O’Bannon sci-fi noir The Long Tomorrow and the sick joke of How Good Is Man? Astounding art, naturellement.
So incredibly unreal, this collection of short stories features some of the most memorable Moebius art I've seen. It's ridiculously engulfing, packing more into a few pages than any other work I've seen in the comic medium.
The prelude scene of the cave man losing his prey to a UFO; "Black Thursday", where we see the brutal Game of the Gods; "The Long Tomorrow", an utterly classic cyberpunk Moebius detective story reminiscent of The Incal; the quaint little portrait of a typical "family" of air-swimmers, one of the Marvels of the Universe; "It's a Small Universe", in which a space-travelling couple return to a desolate Earth to stumble unexpectedly on a long-lost, bitter acquaintance; "Syants Fikshun Digest", an intricate one-page ode to great sci-fi with some excellent shout outs; the title story, "How Good Is Man?", in which a hapless explorer on an alien planet survives a ravenous, disgusting, yet picky hoard of indigenous monsters, though he loses his clothes, equipment, and an ear; and then "Ballade", which slams the door with an explosive bang, a stunning feat of artistry by Moebius, and a form of answer to the question posed on the book's cover.
It's really like a 4.75 stars for me, but something stops me from rounding up -- the stories are airtight and perfect, but I need more, more to sink my teeth into -- I'm hooked and stranded!
Otro maravilloso clásico de Moebius que supera las más altas expectativas que le tenía. La inventiva y el arte de cada historia nos lleva a considerar excelentes obras que se han visto influenciadas por su creatividad.
Already read most of these in separate collections. "The Long Tomorrow", which also appears in The Collected Fantasies of Jean Giraud Vol. 4, is once again my favorite story of the bunch.
The art of Moebius is awesome, the stories not so much. This is another cryptic adventure. This book should be judged by its cover because that and the subsequent drawings are the best part.
A great collection of sci-fi comics and art by Moebius, all loosely centred around the question “Is man good?”. The highlight here is definitely The Long Tomorrow: it’s a cool, sci-fi/noir detective story (written by Dan O’Bannon, who wrote the screenplay for Alien), contains some exceptional art, has been recognized as an influence on films like Alien, Blade Runner, The Abyss, The Empire Strikes Back, is considered one of the first true cyberpunk stories, and is regarded as one of the finest works in Moebius’ oeuvre. The rest of the collection isn’t quite at the same level but is all wonderful work by the maestro. The best of the rest for me is the humorous How Good is Man?
This is basically a collection of some random bits of Moebius stuff that appeared in Heavy Metal. While none of it is necessarily classic or profoundly moving in any way, it is all of it pretty awesome.
