It follows, then, that the present is our only concern. The safest creed is that which gives the best guarantee of mental security under actual circumstances. What this is it may be di icult in detail to say; it would be rash to undertake even in general terms to describe it for the laws of health are not laid down finally In regard to the body much less can they be laid down for the mind. We are in the stage of experiment here; all is crude, almost chaotic. The rational method has not, as yet.
