FIVE-ALARM RESCUE

After a devastating hurricane, Miami firefighter Ricky Wilder rescues dozens of devastated people from the wreckage of their homes—including Allie Matthews. The beautiful stranger has no place to go, and Ricky insists she stay with him. But the notoriously commitment-shy Ricky has never let a woman invade his life. And he's starting to like having Allie with him far too much…

Cautious Allie is astonished at Ricky's generosity, but she's wary of leaning too much on his broad shoulders. She's always prided herself on being independent, and Ricky seems determined to court danger. Can she risk caring for someone who insists on living his life on the edge?

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

1st story, A Love Beyond Words by Sherryl Woods. A devastating hurricane struck Miami and littered a section of town with downed power lines and trees and demolished houses. One of these houses was Allie Matthews. She was deaf and buried beneath the rubble of her house. Firefighter Ricky Wilder was used to being called to rescue people from the wreckage of their homes. He and his dog are looking for survivors, when his dog alerts him that their is a victim under what's left of Allie house. As he rescues Allie something changes inside of him and this could be the start of something good.
2nd story, Shelter from the Storm by RaeAnne Thayne Sheriff Daniel Galvez is called out to the highway as a motorist has discovered a young girl in the back of his camper truck badly beaten. He was in the doctor's office getting a cut sewn up when the call came in. The doctor asked if he'd mind if she rode along to take care of the child as they could get there faster than the ambulance. To make a long story short. The girl had a terrible tale to tell of abduction, rape and pregnancy and being kicked, punched, and almost killed. After hospitalization, she went to stay with Dr. Lauren Maxwell and the Sheriff was part of the bargain as the bodyguard of the young girl, Rosa. The tension between the Dr. and Sheriff was palatable, because they were both trying to suppress their feeling for each other. Anyway, the story progresses on from there.

Both were good stories.

Amazing story!

I love all of Sherryl Woods novels but this was especially touching.
Great story. Very inspirational. Brings a sense of hope that people are essentially good.

Love Beyond Words was very much a Harlequin Romance novel. I did not care for it or find it very believable. The second bonus book by Raeanne Thayne was a much better story.

4.0 1st story
I only read the story by Sherryl Woods; A LOVE BEYOND WORDS. I’m not sure when this book is set and I couldn’t find where a copyright was listed in the e-book but I’m assuming this book was written before smart phones were on the market and people could send text messages. That would’ve been nice to know. Anyway, the book is about a young woman who is deaf after illness. She lives through a tornado but her house doesn’t make it. She falls in love with her rescuer. It’s a sweet story and I enjoyed it.

Both stories were the perfect combination of suspense and compassion... I don't give too many 5 star ratings, but this book deserves it!!!

Two interesting stories from two well know authors. Sherryl Woods' A Love Beyond Words is an interesting view of what happens in the aftermath of a horrendous hurricane. I especially was interested in the author's description of the woman trapped in her home hoping and waiting for rescue. RayAnne Thayne's Shelter from the Storm involves a romance that is rekindled when a doctor needs the help of a lawman to protect a young child seeking rescue from human children trafficking. The danger is real and happening in our time.
