Look out, Shifters of Silver Peak, there’s a new sheriff in town. Unfortunately, it’s curvy, clumsy Chelsea Wintergreen, who knows how to make twenty flavors of cake pop but knows nothing about law enforcement. And even worse, after she’s suckered into letting the local pack deputize her, she finds out that her first assignment is…bringing in sexy, deadly Roman Kincaid, the leader of a rogue band of shifters.
Roman Kincaid may be allergic to commitment, but he takes one look at Chelsea’s lush curves and knows he has to have her. In his bed. In his life. He’s spent his whole life on the run from his past, but sweet, sassy Chelsea may have him rethinking his “hit it and quit it and leave town tomorrow” philosophy. But he and his gang of uncivilized shifters are going to have to work double-hard to convince Chelsea they’re capable of changing their ways…and a mysterious rash of sheep thefts and murder isn’t going to make it any easier.

Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.

Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).

When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.

I love some of this writers others work, but sadly this book was a huge disappointment for me. Here's my breakdown:

The pros:
* Offered as a kindleunlimited
* The blurb had me sold, it sounded intriguing and started out well
* There were some humorous moments when the heroine was trying to detain the hero

The cons:
* No character depth - very vague personalities
* The plot was boring - at one point they threw in a random character "Holly" just to have some controversy, but it was a pathetic attempt
* The hero was a manwhore and overall an arrogant and disgusting character - he meets the heroine and all this is supposed to change him.......no - I found in unredeemable - I did not like his character at all, nor the fact that he was with so many other women.
* I just found the entire storyline to be lame

Overall, I didn’t care for this book at all and will not continue any in this particular series. It just reminded me of tons of other shifter reads I've read in the past. Nothing memorable or impressive about this one for me. I'll still check out more of St. Clairs other work, just not this particular series.

“So I go out looking for her and she’s getting busy with Rafe up against a Douglas fir tree.” “Oh, a Douglas fir. Well, that had to be the last straw,” Roman said, voice laden with scorn. “I mean, a lodgepole pine would have been okay, but a Douglas fir? Unacceptable.” – Mate Marked

Paranormal romance author Georgette St. Clair’s latest shifter delight, Mate Marked, is based in a new setting called Silver Peak. The Shifters of Silver Peak series promises to be just as amusing and steamy as her previous work. St. Clair has been known to write about big, beautiful women (BBW) and her heroines are always relatable, real, and curvaceous. The male leads in these juicy stories are usually manly hunks with alpha male traits. Mate Marked is definitely no exception.

Chelsea Wintergreen is at the end of her rope, and it looks like her last hope has pretty much fallen through. The unexpected employment offer for the sheriff position in the tiny town at the end of her line is quite the boon. She and her vengefully flatulent dog are just settling in when she realizes all is not well in the backwoods, and this job might not be such a sweet deal. There is a criminal menace habitually stepping over the line, and she is expected to take care of it…and by “it” she means all of the big, hunky, dangerous rogue shifter alpha that is Roman Kincaid.

Roman has no interest in long-term relationships or law enforcement, but there is something about the spunky redhead that has taken over the vacant sheriff role. When crime suddenly kicks up in the area, people look to Roman and his band of misfits as the cause. While he is all too happy to have Chelsea “investigate,” he finds himself suddenly rethinking his transient lifestyle. Maybe settling down might not be such a bad idea…but will it be too late to get Chelsea back?

Another great shifter series set up by Georgette. While it took me a little while to get into it, I can’t deny every scene with Chelsea and Roman was electric. You could feel the chemistry between them burning and I just loved Chelsea so much. She was so fearless and loving and I immediately warmed to her just like mostly everyone in the pack. This one had a bit of mystery to it that I enjoyed and a group of new friends I look forward to reading more about in future books. A must read for paranormal fans!

This is so good. The humor really came through. So did the sexy. It was definitely a a unique situation we were dealing with and I loved how the heroine handled it. Then I loved how the hero handled her actions. There were several characters besides the two main characters that we really got to know really well and I liked them all.

Chelsea Wintergreen & Roman Kincaid
Location: Silver Peak, Montana

I want to start off by saying that I like the way shifters are explained in this book.

Anyway, Chelsea comes to Silver Peak to stay with a cousin who she finds gone (home and all) when she gets there. She's planning to leave but after the pack members see her go head-to-head with Roman, they decide to offer the position of sheriff.

She accepts, but there's a catch. She has to arrest Roman and take him to take care of the warrant that's out for his arrest.

This is no easy feat, and it is fun and funny witnessing her attempts to best him. While this is going on they are steadily getting to know one another and we all know where that will lead, but even as they get closer there is someone who wants to keep them apart and well as someone trying to take over the shifter land and will do anything to get it.

The story was fun and light with a slow burn and minimum spice. I do have a pet peeve with the way that Georgette writes the punishment and kink etc ( this book only really has spanking). I would expect the MMC to impose that on the FMC without discussing safety nor limits in a dark romance, but not on a fluffy and light story.
Still, Stella Bloom’s narration is so amazing it really improves any story. And in this case it made all the difference.

Someone is intent on setting Alpha Roman Kincaid and his nomad shifters up. The small town of Silver Peak has now hired Chelsea Wintergreen to handle Roman. Chelsea has no experience with the law, in fact she is more interested in baking things but she needs the money, home and a place to call her own. Chelsea's creative ideas to bring Roman in for an outstanding warrant is foiled though and with sheep disappearing she finds herself torn between wanting to be with Roman and figuring out what is going on in the town she is becoming fond of.

This was fun, Roman oozes alpha and he is a tricky wolf. I really enjoyed Chelsea she is a hoot. Great story, the characters are delightful and you want more from them. What a great start to series.

I apologize before you read the review for my sense of humor. This shifter series gives an entirely new background for the creation of shifters. In the 1930's the government was mixing animal DNA with humans to try and create super soldiers, this serum was stolen by terrorists who contaminated the water, creating shifters out of average citizens and it caused all their offspring to also shift. The government gave them giant parcels of land and they police themselves and all shifters must join a pack by adulthood and monthly monitoring from the packs. The thing that really made my day and shows my juvenile humor is a minor character, Pepper, the old lady dog who farts when insulted or wants to give her opinion, which she does frequently in the first few chapters. This caused me to laugh so hard I could not finish reading a full sentence without stopping because I was laughing so hard. I enjoy gross humor with my romance.

Lots of action and adventure with loving in between

This is an awesome story with lots of great elements making you unable to stop reading once started. You have a new girl in town thinking to start belonging to a new pack. Only her cousin she was going to live with had just up and moved the day before. You have a gypsy pack who works construction just outside the town with a very hot Alpha named Roman, that's got a warrant for his arrest. The town makes Chelsea the sheriff in hopes she will be able to arrest Roman after they seen her handle him picking on a young man. And then there's the slaughtered sheep to solve. Well written and very entertaining story with lots of twists to keep you entertained.

Arresting development

I really enjoyed this book. The author is fantastic at mixing hilarity and emotions with all the excitement and danger we love in a good PNR. These characters not only manage to save the day, but they also were able to find their perfect HEA. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I fell in love with this book. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.

Chelsea needs to find herself a pack and after getting in touch with a distant relative, she thinks she might have found one. Unfortunately things do not go according to plan and desperation causes our would-be baker into becoming the town’s Sheriff in spite of the fact that she’s ill-equipped to fill the position. Roman is the Alpha of a group of outcasts and possible outlaws, currently camping at the edges of pack territory. He’s also got a warrant out for his arrest, meaning he’s going to have to deal with the new Sheriff. She’s determined to bring him in. He’s determined to get her in his bed. It’s just a matter of time until one of them gets their way.

Mate Marked might be just another easy read if it wasn’t for the humour injected into the story, which made it a thoroughly enjoyable read. It may be a little over simplified to say that Chelsea brings all the fun, but se kind of does. She’s a really quirky, sassy character. She takes her new job as Sheriff very seriously and does actually try to arrest Roman but it’s the lengths she goes to and the fact that she doesn’t give up and actually submits to his punishments that makes this book something special. Roman refuses to go quietly and every time she fails, he punishes her and keeps her captive for a day. They definitely have a strange relationship and it only gets more complicated the more time they spend together. I love when characters complement one another and these two definitely do. Roman is obviously in need of a challenge and Chelsea is pretty much just that. Her upbringing makes her a little tougher than most, so she’s able to deal with Roman without cowering to his dominant nature. The first time she’s caught and punished, you will likely find yourself thinking “what the hell?” but if you go with it, you’ll see that it’s just the way Chelsea and Roman are. Right from the start, the pair just seem to understand one another on a certain level. I’m not sure about the ending of the book, as things happen a little quickly once things come to a turning point, making it feel like the ending was rushed. It’s possible however that everything came to a head so quickly because Roman as an Alpha and has a rather decisive personality.

Profanity: Infrequent
Sexual content: Infrequent but detailed
Violence: Occasional
Cautionary element(s): Kidnapping

Glad I read the other books first they are structured differently and I liked them better. Even though this book is short it followed the general story structure of a romance novel (which I was totally okay with until I got to the pre-climax drama and the climax itself). The other two books in the series have minimal drama and focus more on humor.

I liked the story in this book up ‘till the drama hit. I could understand the drama Roman went through and how that negatively affected Chelsea’s relationship with the townspeople, but that extra drama about Chelsea’s secret becoming a big issue was ridiculous. Why should the townspeople care so much, shouldn’t someone know what an empath really is already because they’re read about it or knew/heard of one? I knew what empaths can do without the explanation. This concept of shapeshifters having extra powers is also not brought up again except for a brief mention in Marcus’s story, so I really think the idea was not necessary to the story, especially in this book where the worst Chelsea’s ability does is make people feel a little crummy. Meh.

Short but sweet. It’s the first shifter series that I’ve read where they were made accidentally by the US government in the 1930’s, or more specifically by a terror organization that released the government’s super soldier genetic formula into a civilian water population. So the government knows about shifter and for the most part lets them police themselves unless they need to intervene.

Our female protagonist stumbled upon this small ghost town well looking for a pack to join, all shifters need a pack and having been raised in the foster care system since her mom died she didn’t have many options.

From the day she arrived she was given the job of sheriff since she was the only one that could stand up to an outlaw.

That outlaw ends up being a great guy who is alpha to a wandering pack of misfits, she ends up matted to him.

The mystery behind the missing sheep is solved when they unravel a plot to blame shifters for the sheep and the human sheriff’s death to get their land for the development of a hotel on a hot springs.

I read this in an afternoon. I couldn't walk away once I started. It was fun and funny, while still being sexy and it had a mystery, too. Chelsea was so much fun! She is a little insecure, and has a secret, but it just makes her more perfect for her spunky attitude. She is loving and honest and brave. Roman is so much fun with his no care attitude and his big heart that he keeps hidden. I love the Silver Peak Pack and Roman's pack of outsiders equally. The characters really wormed their way into my heart. The only complaint with this book is that it ended. I want more, so much more! I'm now on a quest to add every book Georgette St Clair has written to my kindle. Then I'm going to cozy up with a cup of coffee and a blanket and forget the world. She has completely enchanted me with her writing.

This was a very tropey shifter kind of romance - I guess if it dates from 2015 that makes sense. Cocky alpha - hole, fated mates, mate marking as a concept makes me rage - the world building makes NO sense, [a 1930’s genetic experiment stolen by terrorists and released into drinking water makes people change into only wolf shifters with various different powers, then they are given mass swatches of ‘vacant’ land in compensation… wtaf? whose land?] PLUS the natural springs heal everything, even Alzheimer's and arthritis…

It was just ridiculous, but honestly, right now, it hit the spot. And it’s short.

so it’s a solid three stars

and the whole series is in Audible plus at the moment…

Good Plot very confusing

I really loved the plot of this book and the characters but it only get 3 stars cause it was so hard to follow. It was riddled with spelling mistakes and grammatical error. As well as, there a Leon on one page that suddenly became a Leland for the rest of the book. It seems like the author got confused and wrote the wrong name. Like closer to the end Mitch Rogers would get mentioned as Mitch once or twice on that page and then it would change to Rogers. It was very confusing with an extreme lack of consistency.

Sometimes I don't know why so many heroes have to be manwhores before they find the One, the right one.
But what's good about this genre is that usually once they find her, that's it, they're loyal to that woman for the rest of their lives.
Even the very thought of cheating makes them sickt. Which was a neat detail.
All in all, a nice book with humorous situations that brought a smile to my face, which is exactly what I needed considering the series I read before.
The heroine is very likeable, but biger girls are often charismatic and nice! so Roman didn't know what hit him!

4⭐️

Okay I’m giving this 4 stars because it was hilarious. The audiobook is included with the audible membership and I listened to it on a whim but omg it was perfect for a drive. I was laughing within 5 minutes of this book.

I thought the narrator was perfect for the FMC and her male voice wasn’t bad at all. The humor is what made this book but I actually enjoyed the plot too. The pacing for the relationship was a bit off but I feel like that’s a shifter romance thing.

Chelsea, the FMC, was a trip and now that I also listened to the second book I love her even more. Roman was your typical alpha male but he was kind of a softy anyway.

This audiobook was a light read, both in time and style. Coming in at just under four hours, it was easy to complete this during an afternoon's work. As far as style, this book read like a mashup of a cozy mystery and a paranormal romance. It leans more toward comedy with less of the brooding alpha male that was prevalent in the last shifter series I read. I'm new to the subgenre of shifter romance so perhaps there are more books like this; if there are, I'd like to find them.

I thought that this would be an easy book to just listen to and fall asleep. I was so wrong. It was highly enjoyable and the plot kept twisting. Our main FMC is an amazing girl. I did wish that we got a better feel of her power, instead of just hints at it. I enjoyed the dynamic of the packs. I feel things could have been more drastic. but that might just be because i've been in a Dark Romance kick.

This is so unrealistic, but I’ll let it slide because it’s easy fiction. In no way is a “big bodied” woman working as a sheriff that’s somehow more athletic than trained dogs. No way is she sleeping with a hot muscular man. But eh, he’s a fuckboy who’d do it with many others, so I guess it counts.

The murder scenes were strange to the whole romance. It was another plot entirely, it didn’t matter.

Quick read, happy ending. The story wasn't terrible just sort of meh. I like light fluffy reads but this one I had trouble connecting to it. I think there needed to be more to establish the central relationship. I found the switch from sexually free, outlaw who doesn't call one place home to family man to be a bit unbelievable. Overall not a terrible story though

Super cute short shifter romance.

chelsea is tricked into becoming a town sherif and has to take Roman to jail. Roman is a shifter who's pack lives with this pack outside of town.
She keeps trying to find ways to take him to jail, and he just finds her attempt funny... and attractive.

His packs all like her.

It’s strange to me when a romance novelist chooses make one of their main characters unlikable. At the half-way point of this book, Roman is the same big ol’ bag’o’d*c

This was a light and delightful novel, with a far away Robin Hood vibe that I thoroughly enjoyed. Nothing about stealing, don't get me wrong, but something underlying made me think of it none the less (and more than the obvious living in the woods).
Anyway, a good read, and I really loved the main couple's dynamic! Such a funny couple!

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible Membership)

A pack of misfits, a shifter town in need of a sheriff, a land owner wanting shifter land, and a female werewolf who was down to her last dollar, in need of a job.

This combination makes a perfect romantic tale.
