Reverend Daniel Ferguson and his wife are the parents of three girls, twenty-year-old Olivia, eight-year-old Gayle and eighteen-month-old Dani. Mrs. Ferguson seems healthy which is why it is a surprise to everyone when she has to go to the hospital. Olivia promises her dying mother that she will help her father care for her two young sisters. With Olivia’s help, Reverend Ferguson somehow begins to manage his grieving family and new responsibilities. But when he meets and marries a woman who is virtually unknown to the family, conflict arises as Olivia fights to keep the promise she made to her mother. Years pass and Reverend Ferguson dies of a heart attack. The sisters face another turning point -- Olivia vehemently battles to care for her sisters; Gayle desperately wants to make it on her own; and baby sister Dani surreptitiously battles issues of abandonment. A series of unexpected occurrences draw the sisters into adverse situations and they struggle with a dark secret... a secret that could once again drive the family apart and test their faith in God.
Secrets told and kept, fights won and lost, shared laughter and tears - all of these things make up the sister relationship. Sometimes that relationship is much greater than a mere sibling connection, as in the case of Olivia, Gayle, and Dani Ferguson in W. Mason Dunn's first novel, More Than Sisters! Through a tragic turn of events, their bond transcends the normative definition of a sister, and their lives are forever changed as they adjust to their new roles of parent, teacher, child, and student!
Not one to back down from a challenge, Olivia is intent on keeping her younger siblings together as a unit - much to the chagrin of her stepmother Gertrude. She goes to extreme measures to accomplish this goal and, fortunately, it turns out to be the best decision for her young family! Once established in her new role as "mother", Olivia relies heavily on her intimate relationship with God to help guide her two sisters to adulthood: Gayle, the fiery, independent middle sister wants nothing more than to succeed on her own merits, and Dani, the sweet, innocent baby sister not only wants to please God but also experience the pleasures of her teenage years.
W. Mason Dunn succeeded in presenting realistic characters and situations which kept me engrossed in this story of loss, love, betrayal, and redemption. I experienced a myriad of emotions while reading More Than Sisters. I laughed at the sisters' familial antics, cried when they experienced pain, and became angry when they come face to face with pure evil! Her writing style lends itself to a fast-paced read, each chapter bringing the reader closer to the ultimate showdown which could "once again drive the family apart and test their faith in God."
In the end, W. Mason Dunn's novel, More Than Sisters proves that the love between sisters is, indeed, an unbreakable bond!
"More Than Sisters" by Waletta Mason-Dunn is a must read! This novel is one that you won't be able to put down. I read this with my book club and we all loved it. "More Than Sisters" falls under the genre of Christian Fiction. Waletta Mason-Dunn introduces the reader to three sisters, Olivia, Gayle, and Dani. Olivia is the older sister that is left with the task of raising her two younger sisters and training them up in the Lord. Olivia also comes to realize that in addition to covering her family in prayer and teaching them God's way, she must also protect them from danger. She finds herself fighting for one of her sisters after evil comes knocking.
This story is very well written and the plot line is very different from other novels. The author adds a touch of suspense to keep you guessing what will happen next. It is also very clear that the author is woman of God. Her characters display the characteristics of true Christians living in an evil world. In the end, the love of Christ and love for one another caused them to triumph and overcome their difficult times.
Overall, I loved, loved, loved this book! I would recommend it to believers and unbelievers alike. When you come to the end, you will begin to reflect on what God has brought you through and those whom He placed in your life to love you through it all.
I gave this book 5/5 stars. This is a great work of Christian Fiction Waletta Mason-Dunn!
Dunn takes you through a precise journey in the lives of three Louisiana girls. When you look at the beginning, the kidnapping sort of throws you for a loop but in the middle you realize the necessary evil was for a unified good. The bond of sisterhood after the deaths of parents is an amazing quest of love and every parents desire for their children. Dunn not only paints a portrait of this but shows how the power of a praying woman affects all connected to her.
I was also intrigued by how Dunn unveils the mind and heart of a predator. When I review books, because I am a counselor it's inevitable to view books through this eye and every young teenage girl needs this book! Thanks Dunn, you did great.... Happy Reading
Refreshing and Inspirational! W Mason Dunn dives into the lives of three sisters, Olivia, Gayle, and Dani, as they face adverse situations. Although the heart-warming read is fictional, the situations they face are real. The author does an amazing job of conveying all the emotions of the characters. They easily draw you in, and before you know it, you will be flipping the pages and cheering them along. This book was well written and deeply edifying.
I cannot wait to see what else W Mason Dunn has in store. I am hoping for a series so that I can see what happens next in the lives of these amazing sisters. Kudos to the author for this wonderful read. Great job!
I loved that Olivia stepped up and raised her sisters after the death of their parents. Rooted and grounded in the Lord, and more importantly, having a personal relationship with God made her the perfect candidate and gave her the strength, guidance and wisdom she needed for the task. When the devil tried to destroy, Olivia took on the challenge. What happened is a stark reminder that everyone in the church isn't saved - Satan is always on the prowl, seeking to destroy. But greater is He!! An excellent book that I highly recommend.
AMAZING STORY! This novel depicts the essence of family, love and faith. I found this book to be a very interesting read and could not put it down until the end. I truly believe this story to be very relatable to the reader in that it touches on areas which many people will be able to identify with. Great job W.M DUNN! Hope there are more novels to come!
Reverend Ferguson and his wife had three girls; Oliva twenty-eight, Gayle eight, and an eighteen-month old Dani. Mrs. Ferguson health was declining and had to go to the hospital. Olivia was out of the house, but she promised her mother that she would always help her father care for her sisters. Reverend Ferguson meets and marries a woman that his family did not know. Rev. Ferguson dies of a heart attack and Gayle and Dani is stuck with their stepmom. Olivia did what she needed to do as a big sister to keep the promise she made to her dying mother. Awesome book.
