Sanguinet Saga #6

The Noblest Frailty

Rate this book
"I do love Devenish, Mama. He's the very dearest boy."

Lovely Yolande Drummond has been promised to Alain Devenish since both were children. Her parents adore Dev and are counting on the match to unite their land with the neighboring Aspenhill.

Any other young lady would be thrilled by the prospect of marrying the rakishly handsome Dev. And Yolande is fond of him. She just wishes he were less of a prankster. And more of a lover.

Then she chances to meet Craig Winters, a rugged Canadian whose very glance quickens her heart. Of course, this complicates matters with Devenish-especially when Yolande discovers that Winters is Dev's cousin...and enemy.

To me, Dev (also Josie) saved the book. It isn't that Yolande, Craig, mystery, and action were bad. But, I couldn't shake the feeling that this book was mostly to show Dev's growing up. And as such a story it was wonderful but as a standalone novel about Yolande and Craig, it didn't fascinate me much.

[5 stars for Dev's part - I can't wait for his final HEA, barely 3 stars for the rest, I am giving it 3-3.5 stars in the end, because I haven't had so much fun as reading the previous parts]

Another good one!

I loved the three main characters, though I feel Dev stole the show a bit, but as his personality was to most engading, I'm not complaining.
To think there's 5 books between this and the one we finally get Dev's story in..

Anyway, Yland and Craig have a good story here, even if they don't spend much time together.

PG: Fighting, mention of murder, ghosts and Flash Houses. No ghosts present in this book. ;)

Re-reading some of my old favorites. This is one of several in the Sanguinet series. You don't have to read them all, but the same characters appear, even if only in a small part. So, it's a bit helpful to know the background theme. One reason I do like Patricia Veryan's writing is the humor she adds to every story. There's usually at least one giggle out loud included.

I was so bored by the end of this book that it took me forever to finish the last chapter. I sincerely hope the next one is better.

Alain Devenish is such a fun character! One of Veryan's most charming heroes.
