Like the previous part of the series was mostly deprived of action, fights, chases, etc., this one was full of them, to such a level that I skipped (or rather just skimmed) a few such scenes. Nonetheless, the truth is, it was a great "first end" of the series.

Besides thrilling action scenes and many twists, there was a lovely love story between two beloved characters of the series.

One small complaint: I would have liked to see a different story of Guy - how it went, what was his background and motives, etc. It wasn't bad, and I don't have any idea what it could have been - yet I hoped for something different.

PS What a movie it would have been!

I've found my favorite Patricia Veryan book! Eveything I love about her was here!! I want to go reread it now.

Charity Strand was one of my favorite characters from Feather Castles, Mitcheal Redmond was my favorite from Nanette. So the fact that they get a book together was awesome, what I love about them is Charity isn't pretty, and Mitcheal has a lot of baggage from Nanette. Together they grow, become better and work out their problems. With no misunderstandings!!! Yes!

There's so much adventure here. I was on the edge of my seat! I've complained in the last few books that the adventure and suspense was a bit low, this book more than made up for that. Not only was it funny without breaking silly, but the unexpected happenings along with the suspense and race against time were just spot on. It couldn't have been better. For me at least. ;)

Even better, all the heroes from previous books are in it, and in it a fair bit. my favorites, Guy, Camille, Bolster, Dev and Justin each feature as well as Harry, Tyndal and I'm forgetting a few other names.

I really look forwad to Guy and Dev's stories in Give all to Love, but I'm going to read Logic of the Heart which it next. It doesn't look like it's as closely linked to the saga, but I'm sure it'll have some important links.

Note: I recommend you read this series of books back to back. I didn't for the first few and it really made me miss important details. Also, I read Lanterns first, when its second to last, and I wish I hadn't. There's shoo much that makes sense now that I didn't get, and I need to re-read it for the full benefit of Diccon's life story.

PG fighting, murder, a few swears, some kissing and that's all folks!

Sometimes favourite books are simply a matter of taste and have nothing to do with the quality of the book itself. There’s just something about the characters or the plot that makes you prefer one book over others, even others by the same author. Even others in the same series.
That’s the case with Sanguinet’s Crown, the eight book of ten in Patricia Veryan’s Sanguinet Saga. I came to Patricia Veryan fairly late in my romance reading career. Back in pre-Amazon days a friend was visiting from Australia who was a big Veryan fan and spent a lot of time trolling through secondhand bookstores looking for her works because they were difficult to find in the land down under – most of them were long out of print. After she left I took on the quest and scoured shops routinely to find a treasure I could send to Jo. I kept a list of all the books I still needed to find and completed the set with Married Past Redemption – thrilled to finally find it in a local charity shop a couple of years after I first started searching.
But all that exposure to the author couldn’t help but make me curious. I started taking Veryan’s books out of the library so I could read them in order and I became hooked (thanks, Jo). The Sanguinet Saga was my favourite series and I thought Sanguinet’s Crown was the best of the lot. Naturally when I decided to revisit Veryan as part of my dead author review series I jumped right into the deep end. Rather than playing it safe I decided to see how well this particular novel stood up to the test of time. If I didn’t like it I would have spoiled the memory so it was a risky decision.
Fortunately, I did like it. Charity and Mitchell’s love story holds up well. They don’t just fall in love because the plot requires it. They actually learn to appreciate each other first and look past their initial false impressions. The story itself is a real rollicking adventure – I can easily see this as a really exciting film from the 40s or 50s along the lines of The Prisoner of Zenda (another book I’ll have to re-read some time). My only problem was the complete change in Mitchell after his previous experiences in an earlier book. I understood him becoming a duelling rake, but I kind of wished he’d kept his endearing absentmindedness. Oh well, I’m sure losing that made Charity’s life a lot easier after they were married.
All in all, for a fan of Veryan’s (and she can be a little too precious sometimes so I can see why some may not like her) this book holds up very well indeed.

Despite the rather cheesy covers, these books, by Patricia Veryan are some of my all time favorite books. I've read all her series, and they are all fabulous reads (some better than others, of course). I've just picked three of my favorite books from the various series.

They are adventure, regency or georgian romance books. But not the ridiculous "bodice-ripping" trashy, romance novels.

One of the main things I love about her books, is that all of them are connected in one way or another, but each book can stand alone as well.

I recommend starting with either the "Sanguinet Saga" or the "Tales of the Jeweled Men" series.

The Sanguinet Saga should be read in the following order:
Some Brief Folly
Feather Castles
The Lord and the Gypsy
Love's Duet
Nanette
The Noblest Frailty
Married Past Redemption
Sanguinet's Crown
Logic of the Heart
Lanterns
Give All to Love

The Tales of the Jewelled Men should be read in the following order:
Time's Fool
Had We Never Loved
Ask Me No Questions
A Shadow's Bliss
Never Doubt I Love
The Mandarin of Mayfair

Summer of 1986 I found this at a local newstand and figured it would be all right. Stayed up ALL night reading it and my mother was a little...upset. I spent roughly the next 20 years combing used bookstores for this Ms Veryan's work and now have a full shelf of her work. Twenty nine years later I wanted to re-read that first book only the print is too small. All of Ms Veryan's works have been out of print now for some time and suddenly

Absolutely the best book by my favorite author. If I could give this 6 stars I would. Yes, I was young when I read these books. But Patricia Veryan is the one who got me to love reading. So I have to respect that. She was also the first one to make me realize that authors wrote series of novels with the same characters, the story didn't have to end with one book. It saddens me that Ms Veryan is not recognized like some of her contemporaries. I wish I could have met her to tell her how happy it made me to bring home a new Veryan novel. I really haven't felt that way about any other writer.

This book sits on my shelf and is a favorite reread. Classic adventure, great characters. Patrica Veryan writes fantastic romatic adventures with a mystery thrown in. She is excellent at presenting the suffering hero and the heroine with a mind of her own. The books celebrate bonds of friendship - with the central characters surrounded by close freinds and family. The characters have depth, strenght and flaws. Many a time I have laughed out loud at the scenes that are portrayed. When Veryan is good, she is really, really good. This is my favorite of all her books.

3.5 The balance of adventure to romance tips a bit too far toward the adventure side in the climax of the Sanguinet series. And I missed the dreamy scholar Mitchell from earlier in the series. Charity and Mitchell are fun together, though.
