Writer: Jonathan Hickman Artist: Adam Kubert Release Date: March 2013 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)
Summary: The new Avengers roster begins full-scale operations around the globe, facing multiple threats at once. The team’s mission statement solidifies: the Avengers must protect not just the world, but all of existence.
Review: A satisfying conclusion to the first arc that finally delivers on the promise of a larger, coordinated Avengers team. The action flows better, and the scope feels earned, but the emotional distance persists. It’s smart, polished, and epic — just not particularly moving. Hickman’s grand vision is clear; the heart is still warming up.
Some gorgeous artwork in this issue, especially of Shang-Chi & Captain Universe.
On page 19 there’s a beautiful panel of Tony from the back:
We get a glimpse of Tony as a team parent when Spidey complains to him about Sunspot and Cannonball. (He ate some of Sam’s clearly labeled food; they weren’t happy. He claimed to have spit in it.) Tony tells him to stop eating their food.
