He broke my heart. She died. He used me. She made my world go round. He tore me apart, put me back together and tore me up again. She was the only person who truly loved me. My mental state is…questionable. My life is in ruins. My heart is ripped to shreds and it’ll probably never be put back together again. My twin sister, Sarah, passed away a few days ago. She was the sun in my sky, the grass between my toes and the light to my dark. I miss her so much. I don’t know if I can go on without her. My ex boyfriend, Tate, has come back into town for the funeral. I feel rage. I feel despair. I have violent urges. I have this need for revenge were he’s concerned. My brother-in-law, Max, is acting…strange. I think he’s hiding something, something I don’t want to find out. He might be the glue though, the glue I need to hold me together. My name is Farah and I want to get even for every single lie I’ve been told. I want to get even for all the things people have hid from me. Mostly I want to get even for this black hole my heart has been turned into.
I live in southern Arkansas with my husband and young daughter. There is also an insane Boston Terrier running around. I've always been a lone wolf and find my friends in books. I started writing at a young age and I haven't stopped since. Most days you can find me either glued to my laptop or my kindle. My first novel, This Beautiful Thing was an Amazon best seller for 11 weeks and a year later I'm still tickled to see people enjoy it. I may not be a huge seller but I have the best fans ever and I thank God everyday for every single one of them.
Thank God!!! After all that i've been through in this book, i can say that I'm finally satisfied!!! But it wasn't like that during the whole book... In the beginning, i was very sad about the tragedy that hit them!!! And then i got so confused... I couldn't understand what the hell happened before... Oh, shit!!! Who was in love with whom??? God damn it!!! Why everything was such a mess with only four persons in the middle???? And then, the things started to get clear and i became mad and furious with what i learn... Lies and deceive and secrets and bad handlings of certain circumstances that all of them get involved!!!! What a fucked up situation was that!!! Damn it!!! I couldn't bare it in some point... Busted!!! I admit it!!! I loved it!!!
Our story started with a death.... The death of Sarah... who was Farah's twin sister and Max's wife... Her death devastated them both and without even liked each other in the past, they relied one to another, but then returned to town Farah's ex-boyfriend, Tate, who was also Max's brother... Are you confused???? Yeah, i know the feeling!!!! Phew... I don't know how to explain this to you without spoilers included...
Farah... Sarah... Max... Tate... Well, Farah and Sarah was sharing the same face and there was the end of all the similarities... Or not????
Farah is untamed, strong and she doesn't take bullshits... In her eyes you can see the darkness that lies in there... She love uncontitional her sister and she can do anything for her... She was the only one that didn't deceive anyone but herself... All the others had an even share in causing her pain, especially Tate, but at the end, she got even...
Sarah was the unlucky one since she was the one who lost her life... She was different from Farah, but at the same time so similar... She was loving equally her sister, but in the past made some mistakes toward Farah!!!! Yes, after death, she save the things a little bit, but still...
Max was my favorite one... I loved that guy!!! He also made mistakes but the bad results was upon his shoulders... They weren't good for himself... He had split his heart in two and that was something that caused him a big burden deep inside of him... He only lied το protect the ones he loved!!!
And Tate... I hated that guy!!! He was an egomaniac bastard who made huge mistakes... Mistakes that destroyed many lives and twisted the things!!! He left his pain and jealousy to hurt three people... If he didn't step in the middle, everything will be different!!! He was such a heartless bastard!!! Yeah, i know that near to the end he changed, but i can't forgive him that easily!!!!
Well, that book was about four persons with blurred lines between them... Love, hate, jealousy, hurt... Everything got in the mix and the results was lies, secrets and much pain... I'm so glad that at the end the things got better... I liked that i finally saw my two favorites to be where they always should be since the first moment and that archive to find their happiness together after all this time...
Twin sisters: one is the favorite but she's a whore and vindictive. The other is the depressed one with trauma. Everyone judges her based on piercings, tattoos and smart mouth. But hey the sisters love each other to pieces.
Two half brothers: The old one is a liar, cheater with baggage. The younger is the cocky arrogant asshole but with the heart of gold.
The depressed twin (Farah) meets the boys as their waitress, she's attracted at first to the cocky brother (Max) when he flirts with her she becomes closed off. Big brother (Tate) notices his younger brother liking the waitress. So he peruses her, they end up having an exclusive sexual relationship.
Sarah vindictive twin sleeps with Tate, her sister's exclusive fuck buddy. They both know that Sarah is the twin (no case of mistaken identity). In the same night Sarah sleeps with Max. Who accepted Sarah because she looked like Farah. Farah is gaslighted to think Tate mistook her for her sister and ended up forgiving both.
Max knew Farah would never notice him or even love him back so he dated Sarah. And surprise surprise they ended up in love. Sarah got pregnant and Max did the right thing and married her saying that he could not imagine anybody else for a wife. Sarah was happy and since Max had been her boyfriend she forsaken her whorish ways and became a sweet homely wife.
Tate and Farah had a rocky relationship because they are both dark and twisted and aside from bed they honestly did not work. Tate also had an ex-wife and a daughter. One day he left Farah and moved away for a job opportunity. Farah broke down and moved to her sister's house while she took care of her because her second pregnancy is an extreme risk.
But here's the catch, Tate moved away to get back to his wife that he never divorced in the first place. He ended falling in love with his wife and wanting a healthy environment for his baby daughter. Only Max and Sarah knew about this and they hid Tate's infidelity from Farah.
Sarah died while giving birth and her child died too. So Farah called Tate telling him that he's a bad brother and a bad man and that she hated him. Max kept telling us that he loved both sisters equally in different ways and that Farah was unreachable like the stars. He would sleep in the same bed as Farah while they cry and grieve over Sarah.
On one night, Tate and Farah slept in the same bed after a kissing session and Farah saying I don't feel safe but in Tate's arms even though he's no good for me.
Farah receives a letter her sister left her. Sarah confessed to everything she and Tate did. She exposed Tate's leaving her for his wife and told her: Max loves you please be with him. Farah snapped so she kidnapped Tate and whipped him. While torturing him they cleared every dark thing between them and then she sent him on his merry way to his beloved wife.
Then Farah confronted Max and Max told her yes I love you but you were too wild for me. I did not want to fix you and I think you should fix yourself maybe then we'll get a chance. So they don't meet for 10 months. Farah flourishes while Max becomes depressed. Tate intervenes getting them together.
Farah and Max end up having 2 girls together and the epilogue explains how they've been happily in love for 17 years. But without marriage because Farah is afraid to step into her sister's turf. However Max proses again for the 100 time I guess and she accepts as a closure to this fucked up novel.
Sarah: - His dead wife - Her identical twin sister
MY FAV QUOTES by the hero about the ow:
“I’m in love with both of them. Yeah, you read that right; I’m in love with both twins.....”
“When it came down to who I could spend the rest of my life with, it was always her..."
“I chose to be with her because she was a good person, she was beautiful, and she made me unbearably happy. I never strayed from her and I never wanted to. But that still doesn’t mean pieces of my heart didn’t beat for you.”
“She made my world go round; she put the smile in my eyes and the beats in my heart. It’s so hard to move on from her.”
MY FAV QUOTES by the hero about the heroine.
“...my other love, Farah...”
“When she died, I thought it was the end for me too. I thought I would just lie down and die, but then I realized I still had you. As long as I still had you, then maybe everything would be okay.”
“The only thing you two shared was the same face. And sometimes when I look at you it hurts…"
MY FAV QUOTES by the ow about the H and the heroine:
“…she’ll walk through the door. You’ll get this huge smile on your face and while it breaks my heart a little, I know the man I married. I know you’d never touch her while we are together. Because you get that same look on your face every time I walk in the door…”
“I want you to remember me though. On our anniversary, on Blake’s birthday and on the anniversary of my death.”
MY FAV QUOTE by the h about the ow and H: “If Sarah were still here, Max and I wouldn’t be together”
Much more happening than the above excerpts suggest..... Then they live happily ever after. No...they really do....well...there IS that moment when history sorta repeats itself when their daughter pulls a move on their other daughter's love interest......
And oh! oh! I forgot one more mc:
Tatum: - The hero's brother - The heroine's (married) ex bf - The ow's lover when, some time ago, she decided to sleep with her twin's bf (maybe it was a once off thing - not that it matters....)
What a vile lot...

I had to cool my jets before I even began to think about writing a review for this book. Upon completion of the book I was in quite a conundrum --the problem I had when I finished this book was not that it wasn’t good, it was simply I HATE TATE. After the hundreds of books that I have read, I have met a character that I despise beyond all comprehension. There was no way I could write a review doing this writing the justice it deserved until after I had calmed down. You know an author has excelled with writing when you can continue to think about a character days after you have closed the book.
Farah is 26 years old and just faced with the devastating loss of her twin sister, Sarah. Sarah left behind a young son and a husband, Max. Max first met Farah 6 years ago and was instantly attracted to her. Unfortunately, his uncharacteristic one-liner didn’t earn him a chance. All it seemed to do was open a door for his half brother, Tate. Fate had other plans for everybody that evening that would alter the lives of these 4 people – some good and some bad.
Farah is the black sheep of the family, never seeming to earn any praise from her mother and her father makes no effort to stand up for Farah. Farah had some trouble in her younger years with alcohol and drugs, but at the present time does not rely upon them. Tate and Farah share a common bond in their past and this draws them closer together and offers both of them a chance at healing and to break down their walls.
Life before Tate was a sad, sorry excuse for living. After I met Tate, things started to make all kinds of sense.
Tate and Farah begin a relationship that hits a bump in the road early on and for whatever reason, Farah decides to forgive him and they move in together. I hate Tate…what he did following this is inexcusable and is the bane of Farah’s continued anger and well-deserved unforgiveness towards Tate. It’s been five years since Farah last saw Tate and now with the death of her sister, she is forced to see him as he returns home to comfort his brother. She warned him not to come here because she would make him regret it. He really shouldn’t have taken her threats lightly; in fact, this proves that everybody underestimated how much Farah was holding in from the years of pain and hurt from people that supposedly loved her.
I’m so angry with him. So f*cking angry. I want him to suffer because I’m suffering with all the shit I’ve put up with. “I hate you, Tate. I f*cking hate you so much!”
(You tell him Farah because I feel the exact same way!)
Following Sarah’s death, Farah finds a letter Sarah had written her. In it is truths that will make you even madder than you already are…and not just at Tate, but at everybody in Farah’s life. This poor girl. She has been lied, deceived, and betrayed by everybody who was supposed to love her. She eventually is going to have a breaking point, and I am so glad that it was Tate that received the wrath of her anger. Up until this point I was really hoping that Tate was a good guy. In fact, at one point I even thought “poor Tate.” Needless to say I was forced to eat those words tenfold. Farah takes the upper hand of control and goes all Carrie Underwood on him (Go Farah Go!) and unleashes her fury. Tate has his own way of retribution and it hurts more than any physical pain Farah can inflict.
“That’s all you are Farah. A f*cking whore for me and a doormat for everyone else in your life.”
This must be one of the few books that had me so glued to my Kindle this year. I had never read anything from this author before and now I feel bad because she rocks! I loved everything about this book. But first things first. We have four compelling characters in this book...Well, more than four actually. Farah, Sarah, Max and Tate. Sara and Farah are twin sisters. Max and Tate are half brothers. Our journey begins from Sarah's death. She was happily married to Max. They had one little boy and she was already pregnant with their second child. Pregnancy complications result in both Sarah's and the baby's deaths. Everyone is devastated. Farah cannot imagine her life without her twin sister and Max cannot go on living without his wife. His little boy needs him though and he keeps going. Farah has had a dark past with Max's half brother, Tate. Tate is very different from Max. He is selfish and he left Farah without a word. He is now married and has a child. Farah doesn't ever want to see him again but everything changes when she has to see him at her sister's funeral. Farah and Sarah had bad childhoods. Farah was extremely abused by her mother and she was always the black sheep of the family.
“You can’t win this one. You really think Max is going to let you slap me around like Dad does? You’re fucking stupid.”
Sarah was the princess but as the story goes on we find out that she wasn't so perfect after all.
I was scared, Farah. I was a coward. I’m still a coward.
That’s what I mean when I say you are light and I’m dark. You never once did anything to hurt me. I did everything I could to hurt you. I was a selfish girl.
Secrets are revealed and true feelings come to the surface.
Tate and I are of the same cloth. We hurt and hurt those we love.
Tate and I played you. Tate and I played Max.
But he’d only leave again. That’s what Tate does, Farah. He leaves.
Sarah's death brings Farah and Max closer but then tears them apart. Sarah has kept deep secrets from her sister. Max's true feelings led him to bad decisions and Tate's jealousy made him ruin his brother's life. Farah has been kept in the dark but a letter from her sister opens her eyes. She realizes that Tate is worse than she thinks. She finds out why Max behaves the way he does towards her. She finally sees everyone for who they really are. Decisions have to be made. Betrayals are uncovered and true love will find its way in.
Get even, Farah. Make Tate hurt. Make him pay. Make him scream out in pain, just the way you do on the inside...
Tate will get what he deserves and Max will finally grasp what he has wanted for so long. The thing about this book was that every single character was multidimensional. The protagonists are so complex, deep and realistic that in the end you don't really know who was the villain and who was the good guy. Why? Because this author's characters are real people. They are not angels. They are not demons. They have faults, insecurities, dark pasts, but also they carry so much light inside them that you cannot help but fall in love with them. Farah, she was amazing. One of the best heroines out there. I could totally connect with her. Sarah was both light and dark. Even dead she has such power in this book, it was sureal. Tate was...delightful in his darkness and Max...oh Max. He made it to the top of my book boyfriends list. He is amazing. So good and fair and caring. We all need a Max in our lives. I am so glad he got what he wanted and deserved. The writing was so powerful. I loved it. Each page had feeling, it had meaning. All the secondary characters were incredible. Pops, the girls' parents, each one of them was important and added to the story. They weren't just there; they gave depth to the story and that is really rare. The love between the two sisters was what every person should hope for. Deep and true. I have no words to express how much I adored this book. It made me angry, it made me laugh, it made me cry. In the end, it mended my heart after breaking it into little pieces. Such a powerful read. You do not want to miss out! Please, read it!
5 Stars from me! I would give this book more if I could!
I am going to close this review with a few quotes from the book.
I know it’s his favorite because the lyrics speak of being lonely and having the world against you.
I know he sings in the shower and he sounds like shit.
“You run towards me sometimes, but other times you run away. I’m sick of it."
Then she had to have Max. The bane of my existence. Yeah, I’m blaming a woman for wanting to have a child with my emotionless father. I know , I’ve been a horrible bastard my entire life.
* I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
What a trainwreck!! Like the worst of the incestuous soap operas. I don't think I'll ever read anything by this author again, her writing style is not bad but her plots...ugh
I love Amanda Heath's books and her writing style but this book didn't do it for me. I didn't like or love any of the characters except for pops. Farah was too much. Max was too weak and his love for Sarah didn't make sense considering the situation. Sarah I just didn't get. Tate ending up with Beth was weird because they didn't make sense as a couple, a rich kid with a stripper.
Pros - Pops'- I just loved him, he was pretty amazing - Maybe even Blake, since he wasn't on my shit list.
Cons - The writing- seemed a bit rudimentary sometimes, had grammar issues and was having a hard time understand what some of the sentences meant so I had to go back a reread I multiple times if I didn't omit the sentence altogether from my brain because it's obvious I wasn't going to understand what the author was trying to say - Inconsistencies- The years later multiple times didn't seem to add up, character descriptions didn't really stay constant (like Max's eye color. - when it jumped to '10 months later' none of that shit was believable. Maybe it was because everyone seemed to do a complete 180 when everything was left an a bad note (then again the whole book was pretty much was a bad note, but still) right before. There was absolutely NO build up to up to their transformation. - Redundancy- so many of the same things where repeated. It's like the author was trying to give the same clues over and over without slowly revealing those secrets. Instead, we had to had these huge info drops with the SAME DAMN CLUES RESTATED. I was also tired of reading the same adjectives over and over again. - The characters- they totally grated on my nerves. Farah (heroine): over the top in everything she did, lack of accountability over the things that Sarah (her sister) did (especially after the bombs were dropped), I was seriously annoyed that Farah felt the need to limit herself with Max (hero) because her sister was conniving. Max (hero): As weak as heroes comes. Who the fuck allows his date to come over to his house and fuck his brother in the next room? And to make matters worse, Max sat back and took his brother's sloppy seconds right after his brother was done. Again, where is the accountability where Sarah is concerned? He seems to be unfazed by the fact that Sarah was making Farah's life a living hell, even though he gets angry when people mistreat Farah. Sarah gets a pass while he's will be to beat his brother up when he mistreats her. Sarah (heroines' twin sister/ hero's wife): That bitch! I completely lost any kind of respect that I had for her that I might of had in the beginning of the book, she can seriously go to hell. The hypocrisy was real! She vowed that anybody that her her sister was dead, but she had a hand in the sick and twisted games he was playing with Tate, but thought he needed to punished. I felt like she let them be together after she was done playing with them. Farah's father: That dipshit of a father and doormat of a husband. Farah's mother: Total bitch! Tate (heroine's ex/ hero's half brother): last but not least, Tate. Where do I even begin with him? Took advantage and mistreated everyone around him for no reason. Totally lost all respect for him when he cheated on his wife (granted, she was a bitch as well). I was totally done with him when he cheated on Farah with Sarah? For what? For no particular reason other than to be an asshole. He had absolutely NO redeeming qualities. He was honestly giving me a headache for the stuff that he kept pulling. By the end, I just didn't give a shit about him or anything he said or did. I had no idea why the author kept adding his point of view towards the end of the book. All it made want to do is throw my phone against a wall.
Sorry for all the cursing. This. book got me really worked up.
SPOILER -- Note to self: Avoid incestuous soap operas. - fucked up story. H is married to h's identical twin sister. Twin sis dies. H says he loves BOTH sisters! (they're identical!)
- heroine gets sister's sloppy seconds plot. H loved the OW more.

Omg what a surprise this book was so good had me in the edge of my seat trying to guess what was going to happen and man were there some doozies I loved Farrah I adored her she's everything a heroine should be strong loving sassy and Max sigh loved max he was beautiful loving strong and supportive Sarah and Tate were another story lots of secrets and lies Sarah definitely redeemed herself and so did Tate I guess lol but the mother omg hated her guts and her father was gutless too but her pops was amazing loved him awesome epilogue loved it so much writing was great flowed nicely 5 emotional stars!!!!
I started reading this last night. Of what I’ve read so far (81%), it’s been about 90% tell and 10% show.
It was pretty good up until after the barn scene. From there, the anti-H (Tate) becomes this supposedly redeemable pansy, but it’s looking like the h (Farah) isn’t even going to end up with him... And if getting with the H (Max) is the way she’s going to “get even”, why even try to redeem Tate? I don’t know, it felt like everyone’s feelings and personalities just flipped a switch in an instant, and I haven’t really felt the true angst that I believe would’ve been extreme after all the things Tate did to Farah—and everything else she just found out. He did her so wrong! Then, all the sudden he cares for her and is sorry for the way he did her, goes to therapy, starts mending his relationship with Beth*, and wants to hook her up with Max?! And she’s immediately fallen out of love with Tate, fallen in love with Max, and the very next time she sees Tate, she’s all cordial and agreeable to him? And Max was also too quick to forgive him. No. I don’t believe it. Tate did some fucked up shit to every single person previously named in this review.
And there are quite a few plot holes that would’ve strengthened the story had we been shown or told about it. Like the on-and-off-again relationship between Farah and Tate. It is mentioned a couple times that they got back together on multiple occasions (after their first major conflict and then again about a year before the story takes place) but we don’t get to actually see any of the drama and turmoil, any of the details, that would have had the readers emotions flare. There were just so many missed opportunities for a major angst fest here.
*Who tf is Beth and where did she come from and when did she even meet Tate and how did her relationship with Tate even begin and progress to where it is!? Very confused on that very deep plot hole.
Anyway, I’m going to finish reading it even though I feel like I know where it’s going. If that changes, I’ll come back with my final thoughts! If it ends how I predict it will, and i don’t get answers to my questions, these are my final thoughts.
So I’m not sure why I lived this hot ass mess but I did.
So there are 4 main people the h(Farrah) and her twin sister who died(Sarah). Then there is the H(max) and his douche canoe brother(Tate). It starts with the death of Sarah who was married to max. From there enters Tate, Farrahs dumb ass ex. After we meet everyone we get the backstory of how they have all been living a Mexican soap opera. Max and Tate met Farrah first she liked Max until he tried hitting on her with a horrible pick up line. He then tells Tate how much he likes her and wants to be with her which causes Tate’s toxic ass to pursue her. Tate and Farrah end up dating until she catches him and Sarah being horrible humans by doing the nasty. Then Sarah starts to date Max. They end up getting married and having a son. Farrah doesn’t allow Tate back in for a while. He uses that time apart to knock up a stripper and Marty her 🤦🏼♀️ When he finally starts coming back around he tells her he is divorced(he’s a filthy liar and is not divorced 🤬) when his wife moves his daughter to another state. He up and leaves Farrah without a word after being in a relationship with her for a year. Sarah leaves everybody notes because she knew she was going to die(she was told not to get pregnant again or she’d die and she ends up pregnant again) telling Farrah all the ways she pretty much shit and sabotaged her whole life, including starting to date Max just so him and Farrah wouldn’t be together. Months after all this blows up(10 months) max and Farrah finally confess their love and end up together.
Like I said. Hot ass mess. But it held me hostage so I was here for it.

Farah, poor girl Max you stupid coward Sarah..... she did what she did Tate was a f* ass, and I didn't get the change
I feel that Farah should have moved on with her life, I get the ending and it was beautiful, but Farah went through to much bullshit with those two brothers, f* them. And Max was a coward he never told his real feelings nad he was letting her go "again" at the end.
The plot was good, I just feel that Farah suffer to much and should have ended with someone who put HER first above all
AGRESIVO. Esa es una palabra para definir este libro de principio a fin. Me encanta que sea esa clase de libros que no pinta todas las relaciones color de rosa, que cada personaje aquí se vea muy humano y no perfecto. Peeeero, no termino de comprarme la relación del final. No sentí química, amor, nada. Y me frustra muchísimo porque la autora pudo haberla logrado al 10000%. Lo que sí logró es hacerme romper el corazón por el imbécil del libro, ÉL SE LO MERECÍA TODO!
4 stars. Really well written, great pace, original and gripping storyline, facinating characters that grew in depth and complexity as well as personal growth throughout the novel. Would have been 4.5 star but lost half as I felt there were missing chunks of the story that need greater narration/depth.
As always Amanda Heath once again wrote outside the lines... I love books that push comfort zones and boundaries and this book most certainly did that. Love-hate-cheating-death-love-hate-confusion... quite the tangled web... but there's more to this book than that. So much more! Amanda Heath is on my auto one-click list and this book is a good demonstration of why.
This book begins during a dark and intense time for the main character, Farah, as her twin sister and best friend, Sarah, has just died very tragically but not unexpectedly. Farah needs her sister like she needs air, and she is not sure how she is going to go on without her or if she even wants to go on. Her pain and desolation during this time is a palpable thing. Farah’s feelings of despair at the loss of her sister are all the more magnified by the fact that she is still recovering from a sudden and unexpected breakup a few months earlier with her much beloved boyfriend, Tate, who left her without giving her a reason, a warning or even a goodbye.
“My sister, my best friend, my other half, is gone. She’ll no longer be there to catch me when I fall.”
All Farah has left is her three year old nephew, Blake; her brother-in-law, Max, who also happens to be Tate’s half brother; and her grandfather, affectionately known to everyone as Pops. She has a toxic, tumultuous relationship with her parents, especially her mother, who has always been cruel and obvious in her hatred of Farah. She has been physically, mentally and emotionally abusive towards Farah, and only Farah, her entire life, and she’s never known her mother’s reasons for the deplorable way she was treated.
“When life throws you nothing but shit, you shouldn’t ever expect anything but shit.”
While Farah grieves for the loss of her sister, she is also dealing with the nearly overwhelming anger, hatred and rage she feels toward Tate, who is now back to supposedly support his brother as he grieves for his wife. Tate’s reappearance in Farah’s life throws her further into a tailspin as the chaotic thoughts churning through her head as well as the haunting hallucinations of her sister cause her to spiral into a deep depression that has her questioning her mental stability as well as acting out unpredictably. Surprisingly considering she always assumed he hated her, it’s Max that is holding Farah together as much as she is holding him together. Undoubtedly, Sarah’s death brings Max and Farah together in ways they never have been before but are interestingly natural.
“I’m lost, broken, hurt and full of despair. How do I go on?”
Weeks after her sister’s death, while still reeling from the loss and consumed by depression, Farah discovers letters addressed to her, Max and Blake from Sarah. The contents of her letter from Sarah changes Farah’s life as she knew it, and she is completely rocked by what Sarah confesses to her in that letter. Farah is taken completely by surprise and is utterly devastated by the magnitude of the lies, manipulations and deceits perpetrated against her by Sarah and Tate and, to a very much lesser extent, Max. As a result, Farah becomes overrun with the need to get even with Tate for these lies and manipulations. But exacting her revenge on him isn’t quite as cathartic as Farah expected it to be as his hurled words during this violent confrontation open her eyes to some hard truths, as well as some surprising ones. Ultimately, it is this encounter with Tate that sparks Farah’s healing process and begins her on a journey of reinvention after the loss of her sister. However, the biggest surprise to come out of all of this is the knowledge that Max loves her and has been in love with her for a long time. After much reflection, and over some time, Farah realizes that she loves him as well. The question is, though, can Farah get past her self-doubts, fears and reservations about Max being her sister’s widower to actually allow herself to pursue a relationship with him that would surely result in real, true happiness?
“You forgive because you love that person more than you love yourself.”
The beginning third of the book was all about Max and Farah’s grief and loss, and the author did an amazing job of expressing those emotions so the reader truly felt the depth of them right along with the characters. This book was full of gut-wrenching emotion, and I cried right along with Farah. The middle of the book really focused on Farah’s anger in the face of the lies and manipulations she unknowingly experienced at the hands of those she loved and her reactions and responses to that anger. The final third of the book saw Farah moving on from her anger and forgiving her sister, Max, and to some extent, Tate, as she also accepted her role in everything that had happened. It took a long while for Farah to embrace love with Max, and I admit that I was frustrated by several false starts after Farah had mini freak-outs that could easily have been abated by a conversation with him. For two people who know exactly how fleeting time can be, they sure did waste a lot of it. Thankfully, they got there in the end.
“I love you. Whether it’s wrong or right.”
This story was very well written, and it was an intensely emotional, angsty read. The author did a fantastic job of conveying the characters’ emotions in such a way that the reader was drawn in and feeling them. I loved the alternating points of view; it was interesting getting into these characters heads. I truly enjoyed this emotional rollercoaster of a story. 4 smooches!!
