About 5-6 chapters in, and it's killing me! Thought I'd be OK with this one, even though Westerns aren't my thing. At first, I was pleasantly surprised, but it has gone downhill quickly...horribly trite, predictable and the writing is so formulaic it's almost insulting. Of course I'm going to finish it, but here's hoping it gets marginally better....OK, just finished & the only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one is because I did appreciate the pains taken to explore the plight of native Americans, especially the Comanche.
I was looking forward to this book the most but was the most disappointing of them. It lacked a lot of the realistic details that his previous books had and characters were not as believable. It was the only one of his books that I didn't even try to read a second time.
