Following the mysterious death of the reclusive writer earlier this year, Kensington Gore Publishing author Christopher Long was invited to help edit Singer's final five bone chilling tales and introduce them to the world. There are many rumours and theories about what secrets these stories may hold. Singer himself selected them from his extensive back catalogue and held them back to be released only after his death. So read Something Needs Bleeding, if you dare. See what you can find hidden in the final pages Thomas Singer had to offer the world. Just be careful you don't come away with blood all over you.
Something Needs Bleeding by Christopher Long is a compilation of horror stories by Thomas Singer, a talented but recluse author and wanted who wanted these stories to be published and read by his readers only after his death.
The fact that this book has stories by a dead author who wanted them published only after his death is disquieting in itself. I did feel a queer feeling when I finished reading the introduction and started reading the first story and once I got started there was no turning back. The uncertainty that these stories could very well have been real experiences of the author made my nerves stand on end throughout the book.
I liked the introductions by Christopher Long, mostly because they added a layer of intrigue and uneasiness to the stories that followed. They were also quite informative, as not having known Thomas Singer at all, they helped me know a lot about him and hence, develop a connection with the stories. They added a layer of intimacy between the stories and the reader and it felt like I've known Singer all my life.
The stories... well, they were all masterpieces. And I say this being a horror author myself. They weren't outrageously spooky or even scary, but they were quite firm in holding the reader's attention and the detailing and the easy flow of the writing and the beautiful progression of each and every story was spot on and more than enough for me to give this book a full 5/5 rating.
In fact, I'm going to dig up other books by Thomas Singer and read them all because his writing deserves to be read and relished. I'm sure he's smiling from up there reading this review and I hope that he did not meet his end in the way one of his stories end (Something Needs Bleeding - 3rd incision.)
I found each and every story to be a work of genius. I loved each and every single story and I found myself completely losing in them and losing the track of time. The narration (and the first person POVs) were written in such a way that it made me feel as if I was right there and it was all happening right in front of me. The imagery (the proper term for what I just said) was superb!
I'd recommend this book to all the horror readers and to those who won't mind reading dark and creepy stuff. If you love the horror genre, then you simply can't afford to miss this one.
The stories are interesting, with unpredictable twists and turns. The plots were quite different. Introductions to each story add personal and reality touch to these otherwise fictions.
Story was also commendable and different and creepy and thrilling. A gripping easy read with great characters and a story that steadily builds it's way to something horrifying. It's a very large book with different sections and every part is well worth the read.

Something Needs Bleeding is structured as a collection of four shorter stories (maybe six, if you include the prologue and ending) united by the premise that they are selected works of a bitter and miserable fictional horror writer, Thomas Singer. The common themes running through them all are related to his hangups, his failures, his secrets and sins.
For me the four main stories stand well enough on their own. They contain plenty of original ideas, executed well. It's a matter of personal taste whether you will find that the relentless misery of Thomas Singer's life adds cohesion or makes the overall effect a little too monochromatically bleak. But it is necessary for the ending, which I won't spoil.
I received a pdf copy of this book from the publicist for an honest review, and as always it will be spoilers free. I'm not used to reading from a pdf file and it made the reading a bit harder for me, as I read the book only on my phone.
Something Needs Bleeding is a collection of short stories. For me, this was a bit hard to get into at first, but when I kept reading, I was hooked because of Christopher Long's writing style. Horror in most cases isn’t much my reading style, but I did enjoy this book a lot.
I enjoyed the intros as it gave us a glimpse of the horror writer, Thomas Singer, and his life, but they were a bit too long for my taste. The intros give us the origin story behind the characters and the events in his life and in the stories themselves. Once I got started reading the story itself, I was hooked and the writing style even got better as I kept reading.
The point of view here is in first person, which made me get into the story faster, this made the entire mystery and horror, even better and more chilling. The stories are very creepy (but without the gore), gripping and fast to read, I loved the story with the kids (Devil's Hunch) a lot as it was the most detailed and the pace was fast. It was also surprising with lots of twists you won't see them coming and very enjoyable. There were so many things I didn't see coming, lol, I loved it.
I loved the author’s writing style and imagery so much. The stories are well thought of and you could see and feel everything through his words, and the way he wrote the details was amazing for me and really made me get into the story even more.
There are many twists in this collection, the ending always surprised me and I never saw it coming. I had a few times where I was sure the story is going somewhere else and then you realize you are reading a horror story and everything changes fast, in a way I didn’t think it would.
I love the cover a lot, it brings out the perfect theme of the book.
If you like a good gripping and creepy story this is a must read for you.
"Each and every noise bled through the walls and floors of his room" Love this line so much :)
The stories were creepy, thrilling, will keep you on your toes about what to happen next. Many a times, the twists were unthinkable. The introduction each and every story, about the author and his personal connection with that story, and the end the author confession, makes the book different from the rest, though it could act as a spoiler (a wee bit) in a few instances, but it's nice to story about the storyline come into existence in the author's mind and under what circumstances it was written. The author's confession left a little out of place, since I didn't expect it at all. But I feel somewhat glad that the author, Thomas Singer, chose bare himself inside out to his sincere fans. The bonus story by the compiler, Christopher Long, was also commendable and different and creepy and thrilling.
Something Needs Bleeding was a unique and compelling horror and I really enjoyed all the twists that Christopher Long used along the way. I couldn't predict where it was going! The unsettling atmosphere that this book conjured up was perfect for creating suspense and generating that impending sense of doom that I love.
One of the most thought provoking and potentially most terrifying book I have ever read. I hold fire on the definitive for my last statement; I get the feeling Christopher can get scarier still. As usual, this writer hooks you and gently reels you in. It can't be a horror story, you keep telling yourself. And then it is. True spine tingling horror - becuase the premise is oh so possible. I love his use of first person - always my favourite view point. And I love the way he make you empathise with his characters. Go out there and read this book. It is horror at its shocking best.
