Rate this book
- On the Line has never been more topical in light of the new legislation President Bush is currently attempting to push through regarding illegal immigrants from Mexico--and the Border Patrol's vehement objections to it.

I haven't even gotten past the prologue of this book and already I am HOPPING MAD at the politicians in our Government.

If a military from another country, willfully crossed our border in the middle of the night and when confronted by OUR Federal agents who guard said border, fire upon our agents with AK-47s causing our under-armed agents to flee for their lives, that would be an act of WAR. The US military should be all over that aggressive country like white on rice. HOWEVER, it seems that Mexico can have it's military cross our borders at will, fire upon our FEDERAL agents and then go back to Mexican soil as if NOTHING ever happened and they don't even get a bad article in a newspaper or mention on the TV nightly news! This is INSANE!!! Just because we are neighbors with Mexico and our politicians are pandering to the Hispanic vote, they DO NOTHING while this is happening?!? How can NOT ONE media outlet blow this story out of the water?!? Are our journalists such political lackeys that they can't and won't talk about our national security being breached BY ANOTHER COUNTRY'S MILITARY?!? Holy poop, if this was Iran or Korea, you better believe we would be in the middle of a legitimate war.

So far, that's what I've taken from this book. The authors don't say all of the stuff I did about the politicians and journalists, but they do point out that this does happen and even happened to the agent who wrote this book and that SOMEone should say or do SOMEthing.

This is another book that will only be read in bits and pieces, as I will get so angry for our brave men and women who do their best to do their jobs to protect the final line of defense of our country and who aren't getting any backing from the politicians and other higher-ups, that I probably will blow a gasket if I read too much in one sitting.

This is a VERY important book, just like Fixing the INSanity. I highly recommend both if you want to actually see and know what our country's leaders are doing to protect U.S. citizens. Unfortunately, the answer is very little, the bare minimum to get re-elected and that's it. We need to let them know that that is unacceptable. First step is self-education and dispelling complacency. Read this book.

This book was amazing. I just finished it and it really took one in-depth into Border Patrol and all of the special units within it. It would be interesting to see the authors take on DHS, now that DHS has become more fully formed. They had high hopes for it. I wonder if the paperback has an afterword about it?
