A couple of the middle books got 4 stars from e but overall this is a 2.5/3 star manga series. I first read it in high school and I remember loving, which make sense because it reads young. Reading it as an adult was enjoyable, but definitely not a series I’ll pick up again in the future. This story is Hana Kimi light with basketball and it’s great for laughs, but not the best for the romance payoff.
Finished my reread. What a weird ass series. I remember reading this over and over in the mid 00s, so goofy. The author basically apologizes at the end for how funky the manga was, bless her.
This is a fun romantic comedy series in the same vein as Hana Kimi, (seriously if you liked this one, go read Hana Kimi. I think it's far superior to this one). It's a fun and short series. It seems like 10 volumes might be a lot, but if you ignore all of the omake at the end of each volume, you could probably condense the series to about 6 full volumes.
Generally I like this series. And because it is a quick read, I pick it up often. There are a few things that bug me about it. First, the title. Sometimes I have to question the judgment of English translation when they completely ruin a name like this. The original name is in English, and significantly less corny than "Girl Got Game". Who made this decision? You should be ashamed of yourself!
Second, I hate the ending. The series goes from a fun romantic sports-comedy to weird fantasy-comedy (think One Piece) in the last chapter. It's irritating because it completely changes the flow of the story and takes away that feeling of closure that would have come had they just ended it after Aizawa's big basketball battle with her teammates. There was no reason to add-in characters which had not made an appearance before... and to turn them into super-hero basketball characters. It was weird. And annoying.
I always save all of the omake (after stories), which I always enjoy, to read after I've read through the main story. It helps takes away some of the sting that I get from this final volume. That being said, I still will read this series a dozen times more. It really is cute, and a lot of fun!
Gak ngerti sebenarnya sama tujuan si pengarang membuat komik ini.
Dia fans pengarangnya Hanakimi kah? :O
Sedangkan Kyo?? Yahh... ada alasannya sih... tapi absurd banget -_-
Ending komik ini juga gak kalah absurdnya ..
Belum lagi nyebelinnya taraf hubungan Kyo dan Chiharu yang begitu-begitu ajaaa, bikin gemes pengen bejek-bejek! *ambil bantal, tinju-tinju*
Selesai baca, aku cuma bengong, "Hah? Udah? Gitu aja ceritanya???" -_-
MasyaAllah..
*sigh*
The ending seriously lacked in closure but there are tons of laughs to be had. It is, however a bit dramatic. :O Not enough romance for how much intense build up they had for it, and they completely ignored everything about the black haired boy with the photographic memory...he just faded to the background. ( sorry I forgot his name! it's been so long!)which I felt it was insulting to him as a character, since he was so developed. Overall this series is definitely so much fun to read and I will always recommend it.
Akhirnya selesai! Yeeey! JRENG! This comic can't be crazier 😂 Sangarnya, meski bentuknya pada ajaib gitu, tapi para guru ini semuanya adalah veteran pebasket andal. Gileee 😂
Tim Kyo tadinya terdesak.
Lah? Terus cederanya? Auk deh 😂
Overall impression towards these 10-volume comic, CRAZY!
Yesh, Kyo is totally PERVERT, allahuakbar. Padahal, Chiharu udah berusaha keras nahan diri kayak pertapa galak, tapi Kyo-nya sendiri yang malah mancing-mancing dan mikir macem-macem. Talking about gender equality (in a very wrong way).
Tapi sebelumnya... baca Hanakimi dulu ah. 🤣
I read this series probably 12 years ago, and somehow my pre-teen memories led me to believe this was about basketball. All serialized mangas tend to get lost in the middle, but this one was especially obnoxious. Had some good giggles in the end- the final duel against the teachers was honestly hilarious. I think the major flaw of this series was falling too much into the back and forth between the two main characters, instead of sending them into actually entertaining situations. Future Michaela: don’t re-read this again, just stick to Ouran.
I don’t know if the the author intentionally did this but the story got crazier each volume.. It started off light and ended at batshit crazy LOL. And that’s not a bad thing!!!! Over the top humor is Seino’s thing. And I love her for it.
If you’re expecting a sweet romance though, look elsewhere (like Hana-Kimi).. But if you’re looking to laugh your ass off, then you found the right series! Lol
What a weird story and why was it so violent 😂 the plot was wild and the dad at the end lol I feel like the earlier volumes were better in terms of plot and trying to be good but they got really funny later and the style got wack with the art which ended up being refreshing

Hello, everyone and welcome back to Katie’s Corner! Today I have another work by Seino Shizuru. The first one I covered was Love Attack and you can find the review on my blog. I’ll be covering 2 more works, but that’s for future. However, let me tell you one thing that I have found out about Seino Shizuru’s works. All of them or mostly all of them are linked. If we take this one as a core, then its spin off is Love Attack and that has a sequel of its own, and after comes another spin off from Love Attack. I’ll read and find out how Heaven foes into my theory, but I’ll think about when I read.
But let me return to the story. I liked it, but it wasn’t something unique. It reminded me of Rumored Midori-kun by go Ikeyamada, though the circumstances of the female leads were totally different.as I already mentioned the story is not all that unique, a girl has to cross-dress because her dad wants her to become a basketball player. The story started very well, but I somehow lost the thread because the it somehow lacked something. If you ask me it just plain lacked romance in every of its essence. However, I would have been fine with that if the story took a different pace, but even in that section it disappointed me. There were no “Big” or major games and such stories at least need those to justify themselves. But let me stop with all of the things that disappointed me and focus on something good.
Well… I wanted to say humor, but in that Ikeyamada-sensei bested this story. I guess I liked it enough to finish it and have some positive emotions at the end. The story does radiate good feelings and makes you like the easy going character. There are some characters that are broken and have a bad past, but in the end they do come to the “good side”. If you are a fan of basketball, some dormitory school life, and cross-dressing than this story is for you. Have fun reading and don’t forget to share your thoughts below. Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!
Great series, cute, well drawn, very funny! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! Some of the situations were clearly over-the-top, but unlike a lot of anime and manga that engage in that type of humor, they were abbreviated enough that even the more unbelievable situations were brought down into the realm of possibility just enough to make it very funny instead of ridiculous and cartoonish. This series was a quick read, I made it through all 10 volumes in about 3 days, but I was sad to see it end, and even if it wasn't profound, it was really enjoyable!
That weird basketball thing aside, which I sort of get because it did bring the team back together, I was actually okay with the amount of non-closure (the mangakan apologizes for it profusely), for this series. I didn't feel I had to know all the answers, and I'm happy to imagine their lives afterward.
It was nice having that extra story at the end to show us how Kyo and Chiharu were working on their relationship. It's not easy or simple, and I liked how the story stayed true to that.
Hmmmm. What to say about this book that has not already been said?
Hana Kimi with basketball. Cute. Relatively short (I read the whole series in one day [I read scanlations online]). I liked it a lot until the middle, when the author introduced a new boy with the idea of making a bit of a love triangle...and then took it off the deep end. I don't even know. Bombs?
Anyway, it picks back up but never quite is as funny after that story arc. Yep.....
This story was SO ADORABLE and it had an awesome ending! I feel satisfied with the ending, it doesn't feel like it was just cut off or anything. AMAZING series and SO CUTE!!!!
Karena ini volume terakhir, kasih bintang 4 deh. >< Ceritanya ya begitu begitu aja. Klimaksnya kurang dapat. Endingnya kurang greget. Tapi menurutku, komik ini menghibur. ^^
