Heaven may not be what you imagine. Jake and Mimi are dead and riddled with guilt. They play matchmaker for their spouses on Earth with the help Marcel, a disgraced priest. A May/December romance blossoms for Samantha and Syd on Earth until fate steps in.
This was a great book with a very interesting cast of characters and very unique concept. I find the author brilliant and truthfully I believe this can happen in the spirit world.. Yes, I'm a believer after reading this book.
I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to the author Angela Page and NetGalley.
I don't typically read books like this, but I'm glad I took a chance on it. It was funny and quirky without being cheesy or off putting. I would love to read more books from this author in the future.
A deceased pair play matchmaker for their Earth spouses with the help of a disgraced priest and a psychic.
I thought the summary was more interesting than the story and I found the entire plot a bit ridiculous after a short while. I finished the story, but I was not at all impressed.
I received a copy from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Matched in Heaven by Angela Page was okay. I think the premise was good, but it didn't seem to flow well in the novel. I never really connected with any of the characters. The characters never seemed to grow or learn anything. Also, the characters seemed inconsistent. Overall, it was an ok read, but nothing to write home about. Thank you to netgalley for a copy of the book.

“Matched in Heaven” by Angela Page is a story about romance and redemption, through interference from the spiritual world, as deceased spouses play matchmaker for the loved ones they left behind on Earth.
Father Mateo was a bad priest. During his time on Earth, he fathered several children with the parish maid in a Peruvian village, and swindled the village natives of all their possessions as payment for his “services.” He contracted typhoid fever at the age of 35 and upon his death, was sent to spiritual rehab by the Heavenly Council. During Father Mateo’s rehabilitation, he came up with the idea to provide matchmaking services for guilty priests who left behind destitute women and children. This initiative was so successful, the services extended to all guilt-ridden departed spouses. Father Mateo, now called Marcel, guides and counsels these spouses on climbing the spiritual ladder by taking care of their unfinished business on Earth from the lofty heights of Heaven.
Jake and Mimi, both deceased, and seeking solace for their spouses to ease their own guilt, play matchmakers and with Marcel’s help, hook their spouses up with each other. Samantha and Syd have a whirlwind blossoming romance until fate steps in and their whole plan threatens to unravel in the most devilish manner.
I absolutely loved this story! Such a unique plot, very different from anything I have ever read before. Angela Page is a brilliant satirical writer and is not afraid to push the envelope. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style; colorful comments, drama, and some indecent language to drive home a point, all add to the wit and charm of the story. The characters are hysterical! I did get my feathers ruffled at times when Syd showed his chauvinistic side one too many times, but that’s just the kind of guy he is, and it truly does add to his character. Humor isn’t the only dimension of the story; there is plenty of drama, dealing with loss, sickness, greed - all kinds of issues that move the story along at just the right pace. For me though, the book ended entirely too quickly. It was so fun to read, I did not want it to end.
I highly recommend “Matched in Heaven” by Angela Page for a refreshing, witty, and humorous spin on life and romance, in this world and the next.
I chose this book to review for the title and description. I thought it would be a lot of humor and satire with a little "I hope this is true" stuff to hang on. I was a little disappointed in the lengthy back and forth with the characters on a matching of one couple on earth whose spouses just happen to be in the same group therapy class in Heaven?! I never felt a giggle burst out or a "Wow" on any lines spoken by the characters. I just felt a straight forward whimsical story that seemed to be a "what if" (this was how it was in heaven).
I thought the storyline a unique concept. Being able to do some penance in Heaven by trying to help your surviving spouse lead a happier life. Not that I would want my deceased spouse to try and matchmake me with anyone for sure but I might like to do the matchmaking....Bahaha. Again, I don't believe this to be a spiritual book but just a fairly nice story for a rainy evening (or two or three as I felt it a little lengthy). And truthfully, I wasn't a big fan of some of the characters and I found myself saying "Syd, get over yourself!
The ending left me wondering if there would be a follow up to this book. I might give it a try but I would like to see a little more flavor in the vanilla ice cream story.
OMG! Matched in Heaven is a gem of a book; the author wrote a sweet, satirical, genuine romance-redemption story. The voices of the cast of quirky character are unique, the dialogue crisp and witty; the plot full of twists and turns.
The book kept me up at night; I was taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I cried (when the older widowed protagonists Syd and Samantha finally admitted their health concerns to each other on the phone and yet romantically stay committed); I laughed (every time their jealous, deceitful deceased spouses bickered; and oh, the bit about HIV + Samantha having multiple orgasms was hilarious); I got angry (at the antagonists – their relatives Damien and Marcel were hell bent on breaking Syd and Samantha’s palatable connection, but absolutely unsuccessful).
I wish the book never ended. Hopefully, the author will make it into a film. I will definitely go see it, and convince as many of my friends to watch it, too.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to Angela Page and NetGalley! I post the review on my blog: https://mixedspace03.wordpress.com/20...
The premise of the book is so good and I think the author could do more with it. I´ve never read something like this, I really wanted to love it but I couldnt but, it feels incomplete.
I enjoy the fact that people had a chance to redeem themselves doing good things for other people. The total idea is so good but it was the developement what I didnt like, I dont know if its a thing of interest, because I expect more romance, mostly because it talks about matchmaking. I really expect more!
A light and fairly easy read - the concept of people in Heaven being able to do something for the people they left behind is heartwarming. I found the scoring system of how good a match might be a little trite... The number of characters and the flitting around between stories and times was a little confusing at times. I'd recommend not trying to read this in 5-15 minute time slots while waiting for appointments/etc.
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing a free advance copy in exchange for an unbiased review.
This was a really fun read! The characters were very colorfully developed. I loved the way the author used different regional "accents" and colloquialisms to bring the characters to life. The premise is unique. At first the story seemed complicated, but after a couple of chapters I had a good feel for all the characters and it became easy reading. It kept my interest and I found myself wanting to find out what was going to happen next. Recommended!
This is a funny and creative perspective of heaven. I thought the characters and dialogue witty and genuine. I was able to relate immediately with both the living and dead characters! Clever plot twists and many interesting analogies comparing heaven to the corporate world with God and Jesus being burnt out executives. Then there is the sweet and poignant May/December romance between seniors. Great read!
1/10:Couldn't get past the first few chapters; not for me.
The premise behind this story sounded intriguing. Even the cover art interested me. Both caught my eye.
But, unfortunately, it wasn't long before the book just lost my attention. I found it difficult to stay engaged & ended up skipping to dialogue only. And even that felt a little too forced.
In the end, I decided not to continue. Sorry, but this one's not for me.
This really wasn't a book that I usually read, but having said that, I really enjoyed it. It was different and very amusing. If this is what happens after death, sounds a little poignant and fun, with a bit of justice on the way out. This book was provided free in return for a honest and unbiased review
This was a cute and hilarious book and maybe something to think about after all no one knows what happens in Heaven ! Jake is a younger deceased man and Mimi is an older deceased woman this is also about their living spouses on Earth as they try to match them together and what can go wrong. I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
I'm sorry to say that I didn't like this book very much. I thought it was rather boring and I just couldn't get into it tho I did finish it, I'm not sure why.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this ebook from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. What a silly book! You read it for inertia... it give you nothing. I was in no mood to read about a mature relationship (she is fifty, he is seventy) with this lever of ridiculous. My vote: 2 stars
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Although this book wasn't necessarily to my taste, Angela Psge pulls together a cast of characters that keep you guessing. It's satire at its finest. If you want something different, try Matched in Heaven.
Brilliant!! So different from anything else I've ever read. Characters were stunning, and story kept me captivated from start to finish! 100% recommend!!
