There's a fine line between pain and pleasure, and it's so very easy to cross. As Rose Wintersong awakens to her own sexual nature, the darkness growing inside her threatens to consume the man she loves. Each touch puts his very soul at risk. But she thinks she's found a way to control it. Pain. Derek O'Conner has always exercised control over his own powers, but being with Rose unleashes the beast within and challenges him to embrace his own wild magic. When they embark on a sexual path that leads them down a deadly road of pain and pleasure, Derek finds he is unable to stay away from the woman whose family has tried to destroy his. But one night, one touch, could destroy them both and give Rose's family what they need to end the O'Conner shifter line forever.

Kinrade definitely threw me for a loop with this one. It was a brilliant loop, but I definitely didn’t expect this turn of events. Not only were there twists and turns galore in this novel, but it kept me even more captivated and enthralled than its predecessor.
I greatly appreciate the fact that Kinrade uses the same writing style and tone in this novel as she did in the first of the series. Being that the first ended in a cliff-hanger and that this one picked up where it left off, this consistency in style allows for an easy flow and transition on the reader’s part. She also works captivating descriptions into this novel that bring everything to life in a very vivid reality. And Holy Hannah, some of it is very inviting and extremely enticing. Because of Kinrade’s way with words things become so real that you literally feel like you are standing in the middle of the scenes, watching the action take place.
Not only is the writing style consistent with that found in Seduced by Innocence, but so are the characters. Kinrade takes the phenomenal characters from her first novel and continues to develop them into even more approachable people. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a very sinister feel to some of the characters, but these characters are more blatantly sinister in this novel. Kinrade also delves deeper into the powers wielded by her characters. This greatly heightens the supernatural aspects of the novel and provides a greater understanding into the plight faced by some of the characters.
As a whole, this was a phenomenal sequel to Seduced by Innocence. It draws you further and further into this world, while still leaving a great deal of mystery to be solved in the final novel of the trilogy. It also leaves you yearning for the sequel (and a couple of the characters themselves....).
Please note that I received this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review.
WoW! What can I say? The Seduced Saga is awesome! Paranormal and romance in one? Who could ask for anything more...Once again Kimberly Kinrade comes through with the 2nd amazing book telling Rose's. A story of a girl that is torn....torn with who she is and who she thought her mother was to find out it's all been a lie! She loves a man she can't have....or can she? She lusts after another man, but is he who he appears to be?? hmmm...guess you will have to read the book to find out!! The suspense was killing me to read more! Rose just can't catch a break and be happy forever. 2 families shattered and divided. I was so excited for her when she has even the slightest bit of happiness...Love! I can't wait to read the next installation to see if Rose and Derek's love will be enough!
Since her encounter with the Druids, Rose Wintersong's life has changed in more ways than one. She's come to the realization that there are secrets her mother has kept from her and the coven itself. Secrets that might prove to be her undoing. While she's not exactly sure as to why her mother has instigated such duplicity, she and her best friend, Ocean, make it their sole mission to find out everything they can when it comes to Rainbow herself.
Nursing a wounded heart, Rose comes to the realization that she'll now need to leave Derek behind. The thought of losing him has left a gaping hole inside of herself, one she's not sure will mend completely. She knows she's hurt him and his family, but there's nothing she can think of to fix the rift that keeps growing between them.
When help lands at her doorstep in the guise of her mother's lackey, Blake, Rose is weary about allowing him near her. After all, she's had reservations about him before, so what make this time so different? Determined to give him a second chance in proving himself, she allows him the benefit of a doubt. Never once did she imagine that he'd come through for her when she's needed him the most.
To her surprise, love has a way of making things right again. Most especially when Derek comes back asking for forgiveness. Though she knows that things aren't that easy between them, Rose cannot deny what she feels for the beautiful shifter. Her heart aches for him every minute they're apart, and she'll do anything to make things work between them.
As the secrets surrounding Rose's past surface, and Rainbow's sordid plan unravels, Rose comes to understand that she and those she loves are pawns in a game she's no longer sure they'll win. Her mother has made sure to gain the upper hand in everything she does. She's also hell-bent on wreaking havoc on everyone's lives. If she's to succeed, she'll need to beat her mother at her own game. The question is, how far will she go in making sure her mother doesn't hurt anyone else in the process?
Picking up where the first book leaves, Seduced By Pain dives right into the havoc caused by Rose's betrayal in hopes of trying to do the right thing. We're also given a glimpse into the person Blake becomes after having agreed to do Rainbow's bidding. Granted, that little twist in the story was one I never saw coming, but I've got to admit that it gave the character a deeper meaning to its humanity I never thought possible.
In the first book, I honestly didn't like Blake that much, mostly because he was intent on destroying the goodness Rose held inside. In his mind, he meant well, but he was going about things the wrong way. This time around Kimberly used his infatuation with her to the character's advantage. He was able to learn the proper way to love, even if he became a demon in order to see just how much Rose meant to him.
That aspect of the story was certainly endearing. It's wonderful to see that Rose and Derek were finally able to get a little Closure, too, even if their world isn't full of roses. (No pun intended!) I'm definitely looking forward to what the next book in the series has to bring. Will Blake completely redeem himself, I wonder? I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated the book 4.5 Stars:
Beginning shortly after the events which took place at the end of the first book, Seduced by Pain continues the saga of the Romeo and Juliet like romance between a powerful, somewhat out of control witch and the shapeshifter/druid who loves her. A little darker in tone, the stakes are higher now that Rose and Derek have to repair their romance while trying to resolve several power struggles at the same time. Continuing her world building and further developing her characters, Ms. Kinrade easily drew me back into her tale.
At the beginning of this story, Rose finds herself still on the outs with her coven. Having just survived a small battle with her mother, Rose has several issues she must face on her own. She still doesn't understand the extent of her powers, has self esteem issues she needs to resolve and finds herself temporarily separated from Derek, the man she loves.
Heartbroken over his discovery of the part Rose played in his brother Dean's situation, Derek is determined to stand by his family. Refusing to return Rose's calls, Derek knows he still loves her. He just needs to help her figure out how to control her dark powers.
While Rose and Derek are temporarily apart, Ms. Kinrade introduces us to a few new characters. Rose and her best friend Ocean, are determined to discover what's really going on inside the coven and just what Rainbow, Rose's mother, is trying to do. Rose also has to deal with Blake, a person she's never liked, who suddenly isn't behaving he was in the past. Blake's sudden change also attracts the attention of Ocean, who wants to know why he's suddenly acting like a hottie!
Soon Rose and Derek realize they'll have to forget and forgive the mistakes in their past to discover the answers they seek. It's only their love and the hope for a future together that will give them the answers and power they seek.
Will Rose and Derek's love be enough to get them through their problems? Will Rose be able to uncover all of the secrets involving her mother and learn to control her powers? You'll have to read Seduced by Pain to find out. I can't wait to see what happens next.
**May contain spoilers** Like its prequel, Kimberly Kinrade associates 'Seduced by Pain' with one of Shakespeare's greatest love stories; this time it is 'A Midsummer's Nights Dream'. Each chapter begins with a quote from the play and is named after a section from that quote, indicating the action of the story. I appreciate this homage by Kimberly Kinrade, to Shakespeare, who I believe wrote some of the world's most beautiful stories, and I am interested to find out which play she will be using for her third book. 'Seduced by Pain' begins where 'Seduced by Innocence' ended; the demon has been released and is intent on finding Rose. However, Rose is missing Derek, despite knowing his heritage, and she is doubting her mother even more. After receiving a vision from his brother Derek decides to free Rose from the coven and help her discover more about her powers; he finds a small community of paranormals who may be able to help. In this sequel Rose and Derek find the secret to unlocking their sexual relationship and the reader sees them united together: emotionally, physically and against the witches coven. Kimberly Kinrade lulls the reader into a sense of safety and security within the story and then builds into the battle crescendo when Rose's life is thrown into chaos again. I enjoy the way in which the pace changes but the story is still as absorbing and exciting. I am anticipating the sequel!
Seduced by Pain picks up where Book One leaves off, something fans are sure to enjoy. Rose is in some serious pain after the truth about Derek is revealed. She is mourning and I just wanted to reach out and give her a hug. Her mother's lackey, Blake, is hiding some big secrets. Blake is she to take advantage of Rose's vulnerability and makes a play for her. Still, her love for Derek bubbles just under the surface.
While Rose may be in some serious pain, she and Ocean are also determined to fight back. They are no longer under Rainbow's wicked control. Rose is stronger than we first realize and her personal growth is one of the most beautiful aspects of the story. She will fight for Derek. She is fiercely committed to Ocean. She is determined to use her dark powers for good. There is so much to admire about Rose.
While it isn't necessary to read Kinrade's Forbidden series Before reading this book, there is crossover between the two series that fans will enjoy. This book, like the first, leaves you duty a huge cliffhanger. I love it. It has me wishing Seduced by Power was available right now!
I'd like to thank Innovative Online Book Tours and the author for providing me a copy of this book to review for the tour. I loved reading the first book of this trilogy, and the Shakespearean quotes at the beginning of each chapter really set the tone. During the first book, they were all quotes from Romeo and Juliet, now they are all from A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the first book, we got a glimpse of how evil Rose's mother truly is, now we get a further glimpse of how much love can destroy a person. Truly gives more meaning to the William Congreve quote, "Heav'n has no rage like love to hatred turn'd/ nor hell a fury, like a woman scorned." As Rose and Derek's love and relationship progresses all the usual ways, including the miscommunication, there are slightly more wicked twists to the plot. I can't wait to see how it all pans out in the end. Will Rose get to meet her father?
I'm at a loss for words...I could not imagine Kimberly would go there...but she did and OMG! After the first book and it's wild run of twists I thought "Damn, that was good" now I read this and really?!?!?
Rose has blown my original opinion of her out of the water. She starts off all broken and by the end she's standing tall. Derek is still my most favorite....still all man and AMAZING!!! Blake, however is one to be watched! Unlike the last book where he was a total butthead...now who knows what he'll do! Rainbow is still the most..Bleep, Bleep, Bleep...I still want to kill the woman!!!
Kimberly once again hit the ball out of the park and into outer space! The story and the characters are just supreme...I also love how she inter weaved her other novel within this one..AWESOME move!!! Kimberly is one author not to miss out on!
I can hardly contain myself for Seduced By Power....These cliff-hangers are mind blowing!!!
First there were the Capulets and Montagues. Then there were the Hatfields and McCoys. Now there are the O'Conners and Wintersongs. Or at least one very bad lady with the innocuous name of Rainbow Wintersong. In the first book Seduced by Innocence, each chapter began with a quote from Romeo and Juliet, in this book the quote is from A Midsummer Night's Dream. “The course of true love never did run smooth.” Rose's mother and Blake are even more evil than before. Rose is depressed Derek won't talk to her. This book is so well written, I just couldn't put it down, so to speak. I loved the first book and now I am completely hooked on Rose's story. I love it so much, I just don't want it to end. This book took the eroticism from the first book to the next level and it was hot, hot, hot. And once again this book ends with a cliffhanger. This author is driving me nuts. Must get next book!
Ok so I love the story - just a few things I need to get out first: I have a pet hate with short books that are made into a trilogy when it could have been one full (epic) book - saying that I'm hooked and will of course read the third one!
Secondly, I had to go back to the last chapter of the first book to clarify what Derek had said to his father because I thought I was going crazy when I started this book with Derek not speaking or having any contact with Rose... I thought he was going to try to get her back? It may just be me but that confused me and I felt like this was just pushed aside for the new plot in the second book to work. Now that's out of the way *phew* I love this story and the characters are written in a way that they become vivid in your mind. I love the fact that the book challenges your pre conceived views on demons. I'm clicking buy now for the next book!!!
I love this series! Kimberly you are killing me,lol...I want to read the next one! Ok, I dislike Rainbow even more than I did in the first book! But their were twists and turns, I never saw coming, that all I can say is wow without giving anything away! A book filled with Witches, Demons, werewolves, steamy romance, conflict, love, hate this book is a must read! There were parts that had me laughing out loud as well as sitting on the edge of my seat dying to know what happened next! I highly recommend this series!
I read Seduced by Pain in less than 3 hours, so I have to agree with the other reviewers who felt the cost was high for such a short book. If I did not have a gift card, and was not compulsive about reading to the end of a story, I would not get Seduced by Power. Seduced by Pain was better than Innocence. The sex discussion with Father Patrick was hysterical. I do not like Blake becoming a...better person, because it introduces a feel of a love triangle, as well as making me feel badly for Blake.
The story continues well. The books seem to be a serial...fairly short and fast moving. I see that there are more...perhaps would have been served as one, longer book. Still, I want to see where the adventure goes...
The protagonist Rose seeking sex advice is one of the funniest scenes I've read in a long time. That alone is enough, but really the whole story is good. This does need to be read in order.
The second in the series, sees Rose trying to control her gift, so she can be with Derek. Her mother, Rainbow, the coven leader, is evil, and Rose and her best friend Ocean find out some truths about her, and what is going on.
Oh my I can’t wait to read the next book. The anticipation is killing me. I do hope Rose can bring Dean back. I’m so excited that Sam, Drake and the rest of the team is back into the story. I look forward to seeing what roll they play in the next one.
Called Seduced by the Demon on Kindle. Not as strong a romance as it is a paranormal feuding clans story, with a psycho leader thrown into the mix. Entertaining novella that ends on a cliffhanger. Very atmospheric and enveloping, a fun read
Really enjoyed this book. The hot and steamy passion between rose and derek continues to build but the secrets and lies will eventually come crashing down around them. A must read
The second book in the seduced saga is an awesome book and just as good as the first the depth of the characters gets better and better and seeing some old friends from the forbidden trilogy makes it even more awesome! The love between derek and rose is undeniable :) its a dark and sexy read like thw first in this series which makes it all the better as well :) keep up the amazing work alex lux
This book is a real page turner. I read it non-stop, in a day. Thank goodness it didn't take me longer because everything else took the back burner while I devoured this book. FIVE STAR READ!
First I would just like to say that I wish that my diary was as well written as Rose's. Her diary entries are magnificent. "If a heart can fall in love, what does it fall into when that love is lost? Does it fall into grief, or something darker, perhaps?" Her words speak volumes and show just how deep her romance with Derek truly is. A love story fitting for the Shakespearean quotes at the beginning of each chapter.
Book one covered a lot of ground. This is definitely a series that you would truly benefit from reading from the beginning. However, if you generally do jump into series mid-way through, there are details that are covered in order to keep you well informed of the past history you will have missed. While I suggest reading from book one, beginning at book two is possible.
I loved the entire story. Really. From start to finish this book is jammed with a lot of action, romance, and amazing quotes that get your mind racing. "Caterpillar think life is over in cocoon,, that darkness means death. Not so. Darkness bring new lie. And wings. Caterpillar becomes butterfly and fl away". This book keeps you on your toes as you are left wondering how impossible situations will find solutions. Your standing on the sidelines rooting for the impossible love between Rose and Derek.
The book also has a lot of funny moments as well. While it runs through your emotions you are left giggling at Rose's best friend Ocean's comical sense of humour. It leaves you guessing what is going to happen next while keeping the mood light with the hilarious encounters as well.
As I mentioned in my review for the first novel in this series, the intimate scenes are really intimate. There is no hiding the passion found between our heroic couple. As they search for answers on how to release Dean, Derek's brother, from his hellish prison within his mind the passion is high as they also search for answers on how to control Rose's dark gift. Or is it a curse?
Many answers are found within this book, though some answers are left just out of your reach encouraging you to complete the trilogy. Which, by the way, I will be happy to oblige. The ground work for book three is set up well by the end of book two and I gotta tell you, this reader is definitely hooked.
I would recommend this book to any romance, urban fantasy, or supernatural readers out there. This book definitely will leave you guessing as you reach for the final book in the series to find out the answer to all of your 'what if's'. Stay tuned, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be reviewing the third in time ;)
The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
In the second book Seduced by Pain of the Seduced Saga Derek has found out who Rose is and what she did to his brother Dean. Rose has to deal with the fact of what she can do with her dark powers and learn how to control them. She is determined to use her magic for good and not evil. Rose keeps calling Derek over and over but Derek won't talk to her. He feels guilty for loving her when his brother is in a coma that she put him in. Will Derek find it his heart to forgive Rose? Can she stop her mother from doing more evil before anyone else gets hurt?
Rose has learned that her mother is planning on using her as a sacrifice to help her gain more power. She has also found out that her mother has been hiding things from her. Things like who her real father is and what he is. Who is her father? What is her father? She now knows that Derek's family was not the ones who was attacking them and trying to kill her family.
Rose's heart is breaking because of what she did to Derek's brother and has realized that her mother manipulated her into using her magic against Dean. Her heart is also breaking into tiny little pieces because she thinks she has lost Derek. She thinks he will hate her because of who she is and what she did.
What Rose doesn't know and has no way of knowing is that Derek has a fantastic family with great big hearts. The O'Conner's don't blame her for what happen they know her heart is not like that. She is not evil like her mother. Besides they know her mother and what she is capable of doing. They are not the kind of people to judge anyone. They know that everyone is their own person and just because one person in the family may be bad does not make the other members bad too.
You know I think I liked Seduced by Pain more than the first book Seduced by Innocence. There were more magic and dark creatures. Once I started reading it I did not want to stop. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I was beside myself wanting to know what was going to happen to Rose and Derek next. I really loved both books and am just dying to read the next book in the Seduced Saga Seduced by Power due to be released this month, March 2013.
Book 2 the continuing of Rose and Dereks journey to be together. Takes a wild turn. Rose and Derek find out they are enemies and it destroys there love well for Derek. He still loves her but his brother he could never betray.Rose can't blame him for not wanting to be with her. She is upset and in that moment of vulnerability had a moment with Blake. Is it possible to not hurt anyone? She doesn't know what her mother did to Blake after the battle. She doesn't understand but she loves Derek. So does she chose the one she can't have or the one she will never love? Blake has a new sense of power... but it's not Blake. The coven leader did a spell. She brought a demon to posesse Blake to aid in the taking of the power source. But what happens when he finds out what her plan is? She wants to be the most powerful witch and in return he gets to be on this plane but a sacrifice has to be made and she plans to use rose.. She reveals the secret that not even rose knows. He tries connecting to his brother but can't until one day deans thought come to his mind. Dean showes him the night rose attacked him how she was tricked by her mother and he needs to go to her because she is the only one that can save him. But she hates him. Can he win her back to save his brother or will there love be lost. Or will rose chose to be with Blake because she can't hurt him. While the feud continues .Rose and Dereks love face the threats as they come and they are even worse .. but one incident could change everything . the witches attack again this time with the help of an demon they take the power source. Then Blake reveals to her as she is angry with him for helping her mother steal the power source all the secrets of why her mother what's it and what he truly is and why he was foolish to think he could be with her. What will happen next? Book 2 is this series is just as good as the first and u find yourself wanting these two to desperately to be together . Will they ever find peace.
The second book in the Seduced series takes us deeper into Rose’s world of magic, love, lust, darkness and hope. With her mother’s plot to kill her and steal the O’Connor’s source of power, Rose must face herself, her dark power, and go against her family to save her one true love. Though decidedly darker than Seduced by Innocence, this book is more dynamic, and throughout the darkness are glimmers of hope.
As we go deeper into the story, the author answers many questions from the first book, and poses more. The plot moves quickly, with action and intrigue that kept me rapidly turning the pages. We are introduced to even more magical beings and characters as Kinrade continues to expand the cast.
For me, the highlight of the story is Rose and Derek’s romance. With obvious nods to Romeo and Juliet, they are determined to be together no matter what stands against them. They are meant for each other and this is clearly illustrated in their undeniable chemistry and steamy love scenes. Even more intriguing is through their lovemaking they are able to find one piece of the puzzle that may help Rose learn to control her power, and ultimately save them all.
A unique and beautifully written paranormal romance, Seduced by Pain is a journey of hope and identity, love and lust, power and survival. I truly enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
“Pain and pleasure are born from the same explosion of nerves. Together they form the precipice of magic and sexual awakening, pushing me over the edge and into a new experience.”
*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
