Jeff graduated from Utah State University with an education degree and, for over 30 years, has been involved in various teaching and mentoring experiences. Currently he teaches junior high in Rexburg, Idaho. He is an avid reader, with many varied interests, who enjoys learning from books and people. He has a third degree blackbelt in Karate and enjoys working out every Saturday in his basement. Jeff and his wife, Kara, are “empty nesters” and enjoy traveling to visit their grandchildren whenever they get the chance.
Jeff believes literature should enlighten and edify. As Jeff puts it: “A biographer commented on one of my favorite authors, Sir Walter Scott. He said of the man, ‘Valor and nobility . . . to [Scott] must be in every tale for it to be worth the telling.’ I strongly believe this to be true and I’m grateful for those authors and publishers out there striving to produce uplifting and inspiring material.”
I enjoyed this book so much probably because I watch "Dallas SWAT" on the Court TV channel. This book follows a fictional SWAT team through their jobs and has a good story line. The introduction of Latter-Day Saint gospel topics sometimes seem a little corny and out of place sometimes. A good book overall.
I really like this book, Jeff Downs is a good author, it is lds fiction, but not smarmy with it. Just one guy on the TOR squad (like an elite swat) is a good example. Not as laughable as Clair Poulson, with suspense and action, and even a touch of romance.
This book started off at a fast pace right from the start and then went into knowing the characters. It tells of elite police units called TORS ( like the SEAT teams) and how they handle several incidences. What they don't realize is that there actions are being watched and means being put into place to bring them down. Of course there is always a romantic element involved in all of these books. A good and fast read, Enjoy
This novel is set in the "not too distant future," and is in essence about a SWAT team. A SWAT team with pretty cool toys, that is. Anyway, it is suspenseful, and interesting. Took me a bit to get into, and there are a bunch of characters that are kinda hard to keep straight. I had it figured out by the end though. I feel like 2 stars is a little low, but I'm not quite excited about it enough for three.
Set somewhat in the future - TOR squad, set up to handle tough police situations, face a series of seemingly unrelated crimes that begin to look like part of a greater evil. I can't quite decide just what I liked about it, but it is a re-read for me.
What to say. It was a short yet keep you on the edge of your seat type of book. It was quick yet clear. I enjoyed this book and appreciated the quick yet suspenseful read.
Exciting, good clean read. Hinted at religion but didn't shove it down your throat, I think just about anyone that likes suspense would like this book.
This was an enjoyable story about a TOR team (similar to a SWAT team) in Arizona that is faced with several copycat crimes. The characters were likable (well, the good guys anyway).
