Interesting and captivating historical tale.
Arria, the child of the famous Spartacus, lives with other survivors of the rebellion in a small village. But she is different from the other girls - not interested in household or family, but living her father's legacy, being a skilled swordswoman and fighter, always practicing in the fields with her two inseparable friends, Marcus and Lucius. But when her mother gets sick, she gets to know about her sister Claudia, separated from her at very early age, and together with a small army heads to Rome to retrieve her twin. But life is complicated, the mission seems destined to fail, costing many lives and leading Arria to the Colosseum, where she becomes a gladiatrix...
Very interesting story based on historical facts but twisted to be a journey of courage, intelligence and devotion. There are many adorable characters, unique and developed, portraited in a world full of brutality, cruelty, power and bloodlust. The only thing bothering me a bit were the changes in storytelling - swapping the passages of direct story flow and kind of detached storytelling from the author. On the other side, I very much appreciate the interesting facts included at the end.
