Winter in Waianae

Rate this book
A pod of spinner dolphins takes up residence down in the family’s private cove. Their acrobatic display signifies a shift in the family’s fortunes. The prophecy told by the matriarch of each generation was about to materialize. Anticipation runs high as the family searches for the strangers destined to bring luck and love.

The new arrivals watch the family with interest. They have a difficult task ahead of them. More time is needed, but the precepts dictate that they come in with the dolphins and leave with the Winter Solstice. With the help of private detective David Crandall, they just might succeed.

Aubree Lane has this innate way of taking a totally screwed up, dysfunctional family and weaves them into this loving, unconditional accepting group you can't help but fall in love with!
Her latest doesn't disappoint.
After reading Early One Morning, I waited with baited breath for, perhaps a "Late One Night" - but it didn't happen. Instead, she took the Early characters and gave us Winter in Waianae, adding even more lovable characters into the mix. It can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend you read Early One Morning.

In Winter, we get a sweet love story, interwoven with a bit of 'grassy' mystery. Lane also gives us just enough romance to let your imagination take over - enforcing the 'less is more theory'.

This page turner, complete with the Hawaiian waters, spinner dolphins, intrigue and romance is a book I give five Hawaiian stars to and recommend 'highly'.......
I was one of the lucky recipients of an ARC from the author, I might add.

I absolutely adored this book. I read it in a matter of hours. I HAD to keep turning pages to see what happened next.

As soon as Brittany turns 18 she flees from her abusive home, buys a ticket to Hawaii to reunite with her estranged half-sister Annie, her husband Terence and their eclectic family. Since she and Annie have barely spoken in recent years, she has no idea what her reception will be, but Annie and her family welcome Brittany with open arms.
Not wanting to be a burden, Brittany takes a job as a landscaper/gardener at Terence's sister Lena's Bed and Breakfast. It is through Lena that they all learn of the Prophecy of the Spinner Dolphins. The mystery surrounding Mr. Kaplinger (A guest at the B&B), the illegal activity found going on at the neighbor Grady's house across the street and Brittany trying to find her way in her new life really kept me intrigued.
My favorite part of this book was the Prophecy of the Spinner Dolphins woven throughout the story. It was truly magical. A definite Must Read!!!

This is a great stand alone book but you can read Annie's story and how she ended up in Hawaii in Early One Morning.

I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Bravo Aubree Lane!! This sequel to Early One Morning (don't worry it can be read as a stand alone) was magical.. When Brittany shows up on her sisters door steps (in Hawaii) everyone is surprised.. The sisters did not have a very good childhood and Brittany decides to make the move and see how she is accepted by her sister..(they aren't very close) this very original "family" will capture your heart.. The Mysterious Mr. Kaplinger is staying at Annie's Husbands Aunt Lena's bed and breakfast, unexplainable things happen.. Let's not forget Grady the young neighbor who this family has "adopted" . He and Brittany see spinner Dolphins (no spoilers here but...the dolphins are a major part of this book) on the beach and the Magic begins.. You must read this book, it's full of feel good emotions along with some mystery and things that you go HMMM.. VERY QUICK READ , WITH MUCH MORE THAN I CAN WRITE WITHOUT GIVING SPOILERS.. PICK IT UP TODAY!!!!!

She meets the boy who lives across from her sister, the see the spinner dolphins, a strange guest arrives at the B&B at. the same time. They talk about the legend of the spinner dolphins and the magic they bring. Aubree Lane brings you the magic of the spinner. dolphins and Hawaii in this book.

Aubree Lane weaves a whimsical tale with plenty of romance, mystery, and relationship dynamics. Winter in Waianae doesn't have a dull moment to be found. Each page is full of excitement as it carried me through with intrigue from start to finish.

I love that I had no idea where Ms. Lane was taking this story. There's twists and turns in various angles that kept me guessing and shocked as I read along. The characters are a great mix. I love a good story where there are dysfunctional connections and somehow, they always work out in the end run, even if it doesn't always seem like it at first, or if it does, it takes a different spin than originally imagined. Lane's stories keep getting better and better, and really, that says a lot because her stories are wonderful to begin with! This is a sequel of sorts, but it can be read on its own. I actually haven't read Early One Morning yet, and I was in no way lost while reading this one.

PS-I really want to go to Hawaii now. Not that I didn't before, but this story helped fuel that need. Do I recommend this? You bet your bum I do! Great read and it's full of surprises and so much more. Now, how about we get this author to hurry up with more, yes?

Winter in Waianae is book two in the Love in Oahu series, it could be read as a stand alone, but would be better if read in order.
When Brittany saves up enough money she goes to the one person she thinks she can turn to even though it has been a long time since they have last seen each other. Not sure of the reception she will receive when she arrives she doesn't let her sister Annie know she is coming.
Grady is the boy across the street from Annie and since his parents died, she has welcomed him in to be a part of her family. Since his parents died, he has been less responsible with his choices. That is until the day he see Brittany.
Being warned of his ways Brittany is not sure she wants to start anything with Grady. Will he win her over and show her how he feels or will they just be friends?
While this book is a story of Brittany and Grady, this also has a little twist of mystery thrown into the mix to solve who done it? This book had me wanting to finish to have all the pieces to the puzzle. While this does rap up the storyline and not have a major cliffhanger Aubree Lane leave the ending with the possibility to add more to the series. I look forward to see who will be the next in the books series.

This is the first time reading anything by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed this story .This story is about Brittany and the spinner Dolphins. When Brittany turns 18 she flees her abusive home, and buy's a ticket for Hawaii to be reunite with her half sister, and her Husband and their family who she has be estranged from for years. But since Brittany and her sister haven't spoken in years ,she didn't have any idea what their reception towards her would be. But to Brittany's surprise their welcomed her with opened arms. But she didn't want to be a burden on her sister and brother -in -law she takes a job as a landscaper and gardener at Terence sisters Lena's Bed and Breakfast . It is through Lena that their learned about the Prophecy of the spinner dolphins . I enjoy how this author woven the prophecy of the spinner dolphins trough out the story ,its put a magical touch to the story. I could go on and tell you more about this story ,but that would spoil the whole story for you .I highly recommend you read this story, you won't be disappointed.

Brittany Southerland has made the escape from her parents and left for Hawaii to be with her sister, Annie Javier. Annie lives their with her husband Terence, son Max and step-daughter Erika. Brittany feels instantly wanted and included in their family but still wants to do her share without overstepping any boundaries.

At the same time as her arrival, spinner dolphins also arrive and they seem to have a magical effect on everything around them and their is definitely mystery in the air.

As Brittany begins to explore a relationship with Grady, the boy across the street, "adopted" by the Javier family there is so much more at stake, including Erika's feelings towards Grady.

This book explores relationships, family, love and mystery as not everything is working out the way it should be. I can't wait for the next book as I felt I was not ready for this one to be over by any means! Incredibly written and I definitely didn't see certain things coming!

Lovely tale that has one wondering if the legend of the spinner dolphins was true or not. The mystery and the interactions of various characters with each other has a beauty and delicacy largely not found in the average romance/mystery plot. Surprising twists kept the interest keen. As the mystery unfolds, as the perpetrators are revealed, all settles into place but one question remains: Is the legend of the spinner Dolphins true? Is the mysterious stranger as mystical as he appears? The reader knows a few things that the characters were not privy to but the reader is still wondering at the end of the story.....is it true? Or not? Excellent telling of a beautiful, mystical encounter.

Winter in Waianae by Aubree Lane another great book by Aubree Lane. I loved reading about this eccentric family. They are a group of people that love and care about each other. I loved reading about the blossoming relationships as well as the more solid relationships. Brittany left San Diego to go see her sister Annie in Hawaii. I loved reading about Grady and Annie's new relationship, and what they could do together when they show each other love and trust. This was an amazing book and I absolutely loved reading it. I recommend this great book to everyone.

What mysteries will unfold on the shores of Hawaii. The islands full of all their legends and folk lore is the perfect setting for a fated to be love story. When Brittany and her new love, Grady come across some fishy evidence in his back yard all sorts of wierd things start happening. Strange people come and go and things seem to magically happen where ever they go. Add on top of that the legend of the spinning dolphins that they have been swimming with and stories about fated love and winter solstices... well .. its just all the start of a really fun story.

I am a brand new fan of Aubree Lane books. Winter In Waianae was my first book of hers, and I am hooked! The characters were so real and the book was very well written. I didn't guess "who done it" til I read who it was. There was romance, mystery, setting, depth, and just a hint of paranormal all rolled into a wonderful story about a loving family that should have been complete dysfunctional, but made things work and loved each other unconditionally. I hope to read the rest of Aubree's writing and hope she writes us new stuff fast!

Extremely well done sequel. The family is not your run of the mill average bunch. The inclusion on the young neighbor across the street has added more to the mix than anyone might have expected. Add a relative from Annie's side of the family and all becomes exponentially more complicated. Enter the spinner dolphins...now things are really confused. Throw a bit of magic into the pot and the stew is to die for.
