That poor rating is totally my fault. When I read the synopsis on Netgally (in the Fantasy section) I was immersed in Kate Daniels' series and I couldn't help but thinking "Maybe among those Alphas there's a novel Curran waiting only to be discovered". Okay, it was a stupid thought, since there's just one (unparalleled) Curran. The cover should have alerted me of my misinterpretation, but, you know, never judge a book for its cover...
So what was the issue with this book? Just say that I was expecting a collection of urban fantasy/paranormal romance stories but I got "50 shades of grey featuring shapeshifters". No worldbuilding; trivial plots; dumb and/or submissive female characters; and, worst of all, the simplistic, demoralizing idea that being a shapeshifter only means being a dominant, sex-hungry beast. Only mere, cheap sex here.
Overall, if you're looking for erotica, you may enjoy this collection. But if you want to read a good shapeshifters' book with strong worldbuilding, solid magic system and dimensional, complex characters, let's look elsewhere. Plus, if you want a taste of what an Alpha should be (arrogant, bossy, overconfident, witty, swoon-worthy, and at the same time sweet, caring and leal) don't miss Curran.
Alphas Uncaged is a great collection of the first in the series novellas, I believe there is one that is the fourth in a series, but for the most part the very first story in many Paranormal Romance series.
I enjoy this type of bundle because it gives me a taste of a series, enough for me to know if I want to continue with the rest of the series. Every story in this bundle is gripping and enjoyable. Of course I had my favorites, but every one of these novellas was a good read.
If you’re looking for a Shifter fix, then Alphas Uncaged is perfect for you. Eleven tempting Alphas in one bundle is a really good deal. If you enjoy series (I’m addicted to series) then you’ll get the beginning of several, enough of a taste to see if you want to continue. I would recommend this bundle to any reader who loves Paranormal Romance, especially sexy as sin Shifters.
*I received an e-ARC of Alphas Uncaged from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Be aware, NOT all are full stories or have a HEA. This is a mix of very short stories and some not complete stories, only the start of some and you are expected to buy the books to finish the story. Some of the complete stories were good. Whilst I don't usually mind this as you can find new authors this way, (which I did in this set) I am getting very tired of it being the norm nowadays with some authors. This is even more annoying when an author puts the same start of a book into more than one anthology. One author in here has the same short story in 3 box sets I have recently purchased. I like to sit down and read a book, not be left with no answers or have to scrabble around to find the book to buy it. Good value for money if you want a very quick read or to find new authors with promise but also very frustrating.
I did enjoy reading this series. Some ended really good. But other stories left you hanging. Those I did not enjoy so much. I do not left hanging as to what happens next. And I am sure the next books are more expensive. Not everyone afford the next or two books in the series Me included. But some did have a HEA book.

This collection of short reads had a lot of variety: bears, wolves, foxes. All of these paranormals ended up in situations that called for a fated mate, a companion, or a rescue of sorts. Some had a firm ending while a good number of them left you hanging (which makes sense in a “teaser” set like this). I won’t summarize all 11 stories, but I will say that there were some standouts like “The Write Bear”, “Bearly Breathing”, “Slice of Honeybear Pie” and “Promised.” These stories all had a varied degree of sexiness and story but ultimately left me smiling. It was a good intro to some authors that I haven’t heard of before but will be looking out for in the future.
What a great group of stories. These amazing authors (11 to be exact-Terra Wolf, Ally Summers, Meredith Clarke, Diane Ardent, Shelley Shifter, Kit Tunstall, Emma Alisyn, Juniper Leigh, Jacqueline Sweet, Olivia Arran, and Stefanie Holmes) are brought together for the purpose of intruducing us to their stories and what a great job they've done. Just the perfect teasers and amount of story to let me know, I NEED MORE, from each of them. I won't be happy until I've finished them all.
I am not normally into shifter novels, but after I started reading the first story, I was hooked. I wanted more and more of these stories and I didn't want them to end. If the genre in general is this good, I will have to start reading more shifter books. Grab you copy of this book right away and you won't be disappointed.
This was an anthology by various authors about shifters finding their mates. Anthologies always seem to have stories that are hit or miss. Unfortunately these were just kind of in the middle. They aren’t very bad, but I probably won’t bother looking up any of the authors for further reads.
