Blacksmith David Esterly expected the woman he'd corresponded with to be his mail order bride. Instead, he finds that she's changed her mind, and someone else has taken her place. Tragic circumstances forced Caroline Buchanan to join the group of mail order brides heading to Angel Vale, Wyoming. As these two strangers work through secrets and past hurts, can they make it through the fire and find the gift God has for them?
Jennifer AlLee was born in Hollywood, California, and spent the first 10 years of her life living over a mortuary one block away from Hollywood and Vine. An avid reader and writer, she completed her first novel in high school. That manuscript is now safely tucked away, never to see the light of day again.
She has worked in numerous fields, including as a church secretary and as an administrative assistant at a cable company, but wherever she works, writing always becomes part of the job description.
Her first novel was published in 2007. Since then, she's published 11 novels and quite a few novellas with five different publishing houses. While she's thrilled to be living her dream as author, Jennifer considers raising her amazing son to be her biggest creative achievement.
She lives in southern Nevada with her husband, Nic, who is a hunky Englishman and the best cabbie in Las Vegas.
I love stories about mail-order brides and this one is no exception. This one was a bit different because David didn’t get the bride he was expecting. Caroline had a difficult past and that made it hard for her to open up to David. There were hardships but I liked how they were determined to work through them. I would recommend this book.
Caroline Buchanan starts out living in Maine, but events in her life lead her to join a group of women heading to Wyoming to become mail order brides. David Esterly is anxiously awaiting his bride and learns that she didn't end up coming so Caroline came in her place. After meeting her, he agrees to go ahead with the marriage. Caroline keeps her past a secret from him and is afraid that if the truth comes out, he will send her packing.
I love mail order bride stories! It's interesting to watch two strangers come together and work through their issues in order to stay together. Caroline and David had some awkward moments. There was also some humor as the things David did to prepare for the wife he thought he was getting weren't things that Caroline was fond of. There was a particularly funny part with some fabric. They were easy to root for since they seemed perfect together--they just needed to realize it.
I love that this was short so it was easy to read in one sitting. I also felt satisfied when I was finished. There were a few difficult passages to read as we learned of Caroline's life in Maine. This is the perfect book to pick up on a day when you want a quick story which, even though it starts out with some tough parts, is worth reading to get to the end!
I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.
5-Christmas Fire Christmas Mail-Order Angel novella by Jennifer AlLee
This is the fifth novella in the Christmas Mail-Order Angel Novellas collection. Blacksmith David Esterly had expected the woman he had written to to be his mail-order bride. However, he learns she had changed her mind and another woman—someone he knew nothing about—arrives in her place. What does he do now, send her back, marry her? Due to tragic circumstances, Caroline Buchanan had no choice but to join the group of mail-order brides heading to Angel Vale, Wyoming. But will the groom—who was expecting someone else—choose her to be his bride? What will she do if he doesn't?
Caroline and David both have secrets and past hurts that they hold close so no one will learn of them. Their struggle to keep these secrets secret made things even more difficult for them. They also have some surprises..some funny and some dangerous. It was fun to watch as Carolina and David adjusted to their new life as husband and wife. Not everything goes well for them, including a fire. Can they learn to trust each other and God's plans for them?
A really great read in the Christmas Mail Order Angels. Caroline just couldn't seem to do anything right. Was being a mail order bride the right thing to do? Read and find out what happends to her. Highly recommend.
Another book in the mail order angels series about Angel Vale, Wyoming. Caroline Buchanan comes to Angel Vale as a mail order bride after her abusive husband's accidental death and marries the blacksmith.
