First thing, I won that book in a giveaway and get delivered directly by the Author at my doorstep. Thanks to him for that!!
Why? ......For writing such a great political, crime and diplomatic plot.
I really really enjoyed reading it all through. There was not a single point where he would have loose his grip on the plot. The choice of characters woven was also too good. This book as in whole gives you a good read-a-thon feel. You don't feel like putting it down. My schedule was busy while I started this novel but I feel like I would have pick it up in some free time so that I would have been able to finish it in one go. Suspense & thrill in it was commendable. Not a single one is Hero but still the strength of plot gave it a complete form of work. The involvement of NGO, politics, Special forces, Judiciary; it feels like the author himself had felt that story and let you feel like same while reading it. Specially if you're a citizen of India, I strongly recommend it to read it once. Though it is a work of fiction or maybe-not but as a debut it is too good to read. The issues concerning contemporary Indian social reality were highly involved as a part of plot, that mirrored the had-happen and may-happen realities of this real tough world in Indian society.
How politics, money, power, business and ill-intentions can mold the truth and corrective actions in to dirty drain like situation in the name of helplessness, democracy and social works?, depicted very well into it. How some people who are the part of Indian constituency beg->request->held armors for their right? and still getting no proper justice from government, has been clearly visible through the pages of this book.
A bold subject covered boldly. More books like this one should be published.
Naxalites – heard the word? Any idea what made them come into existence at all? What is their purpose behind their existence and the ruckus created? Why is it that the areas under their control seem to be almost impermeable?
Having known the author’s professional background; please do not presume that the draft is an explanation of the political bureaucrats or some ideology influenced or backed by them by any means. This rather comes as a educational account about the not-so-known community.
A commendable work! Must read to know about how the cobweb entangles a common man and refrains from a prosperous socio-economic growth despite financial and so-called political support.

Thank you Shiv Kumar and Goodreads for sending me a soft copy of the realistic thriller Operation India One for an honest review. Operation India One, set in India, is a believable plot about poverty, unemployment, caste politics, politics, corporate India, bureaucracy and other factors which have led to the growth of Naxalites who run a quasi-government, and have become a permanent threat to our peace and prosperity with tentacles in many states. The story is mainly set in the town of Bhagatpur, which in is completely controlled by MAF, a ruthless and brutal Naxalite group which believes in rampant bloodshed. A dedicated police officer ACP Gautam Dhaliwal is given the job (code name Operation India One) of ridding Bhagatpur of the MAF menace with a few other dedicated people. His strategies and modus operandi create a thrilling story across various parts of India. How does Operation India One succeed? Will this lead to more problems? Will the tribals ever get justice? You need to read the book to know more. The climax is enthralling and plausible. Shiv Kumar's writing has a combination of fast action, drama and adventure laced with the harsh ground realities in the field. The characters are well-developed, starting with Gautam Dhaliwal, and continuing with Kavita, Charulata, Nisha, Mohan and others. Though a fantastic read, it still needs much fine tuning in terms of editing, hence I am giving it only 4 stars.
The story apart from solving the mystery around the events is just not suspense but a lot of self reflection as the characters are forced by ground reality to question obvious beliefs that one has and gaining perspective by being at the ground zero. This transformation in their thoughts influencing the course of their lives and the story then becomes the center stage with the reader also beginning to decide his/ her stance on the problem and attempting to solve the same. The amalgamation of both the genre of story telling sets this book apart from any you have read.
The emergence of strong leading female characters, each with a different kind of strength is like an extra serving for its rare. The only thing missing in this otherwise great story is a hint of romance which never came and some background self correction that each of the lead female characters should have had for the others before the abrupt climax which would have made its acceptance better.
It's a perfect movie script and the writers simplistic yet detailed writing makes it come to life, producers and directors grab this one! If you liked the movie Madras Cafe this is the book you should start reading.
It has been a while since I've reviewed a book, when I accepted this book for reviewing. It is not that reading had taken its leave, but for some or the other reason I couldn't allocate time for reviewing. I believe that is one reason for me accepting this book for reviewing. That would perhaps force me back on onto reviewing and I could get back on track. The other reason being the interestingly twisted blurb.
Firstly, I need to apologize the author for the late publishing of the review. It has been a long time since I received the book, and even completed reading it, but, like it is now-a-days, I had trouble taking out time for reviewing. Sorry, Shiv, we will make it up to you............................ (Read the whole review on my blog.)
The original review of this book is posted on my blog...
Brought into existence out of the author’s personal experiences “…when I was posted at the construction site of a power plant situated in the Naxal-infested interiors of Jharkhand”, Operation India One deals with “One of the deadliest insurgencies in the hinterland…” Classified as one of the most potent internal security threats by the government, the Naxalite Movement continues to baffle strategists, political leaders and masses alike as the mechanics and ideology associated with the movement has undergone a massive change since its inception. In spite of being labelled as one of the biggest internal security threats, only a few authors have mapped the Naxalite Movement in their works and there too, the focus has been primarily on the impact of the political upon the personal.
ACP Gautam Dhaliwal is a dedicated police officer who is assigned the task of clearing out the mess which the MAF has created in Bhagatpur. With the help of a few other dedicated people, he undertakes a journey that will not only leave you inspired but will also entertain you to no end...
This book is one-of-its-kind of a novel. Although, when I got this for review, I was wondering if a book like this would be everyne’s genre, I was taken aback by the fact that this book indeed can be everyone’s genre. The plot is realistic and poignant, yet for a person like me who haven’t witnessed anything about a Naxal camp, it feels so understandable.
A very good story. It depicts the reality of naxalists, police forces, politicians and government in the naxal affected areas. Author presents a very close picture of the naxal movement in India. The story is very very good and binds the readers with it till the end. A must read book.
Plot: Wonderful and realistic. Deals with a socio-economic topic and the Naxalite menace. One can easily relate with the emotions of the displaced those whose land is acquired for developmental purposes, their agony and anger on not being given adequate compensation or being rehabilitated properly, the apathy of the State towards these poor beings and how muscle-power often forces simpletons to take up arms. ‘Operation India One’ also gives us an insight into the dirty politics played by politicians just to feed their ego, at the expense of the safety of the common man, the security forces and the Nation.
Language: Language is simple, crisp and lucid.
OOPs!!!
Story: Inspite of having a wonderful plot I felt there was something missing in the book or should I say it felt incomplete. That feeling of satisfaction that one feels after having read a fast paced action- packed thriller or a mind- boggling mystery was missing.
Characterization: A little under- developed. A story especially a thriller, is complete only when the characters are able to connect with the reader. Here that was sadly missing. I also felt that the Swamiji could have been given a bigger role in the story to make it more interesting.
Operation India One, a novel by Shiv Kumar, is published by Om Books International. The cover is intriguing and impressive at the same time. It speaks volumes about the plot of the book and manages to attract the readers. The title too sounds good as more and more people are taking interest in knowing about the many different army operations. It also arouses nationalistic feelings at first glance. Operation India One transports you into the Naxal affected area, it highlights the government negligence and political games played in the shadow of Naxalites. A action packed book which lacks vision and hardly leaves any impact. Read full review : Operation India One
