Manji, a bodyguard for hire known as "Akainu (Red Dog)," is hunting a job when he meets Karu who works for "CARDS." When he discovers that Karu's mission is to exterminate the deadly "TOYs," mindless dolls that attack any living thing, Manji can't help but butt in and tag along to relieve his boredom...
So this worked out way better than the last time I picked up a manga because one of the main characters looked like someone else I liked! :) Pseudo Winri I still mourn your betrayal. But anyways. This is a manga about two dudes! One is Manji, a professional bodyguard. He's a decent guy, it's not his fault he has this terrifying reputation for being a crazy killer (I mean. Well. Probably that's because of all the killing but hey, generally for good guy reasons). The other is Kal. Kal is a big believer in utilitarian ethics which btw, I still haven't seen a particularly good argument against despite Every Narrative Ever's insistence that such things inevitably lead to villainy. Greatest good for greatest number sounds like a good operating principle to me! We can talk in twenty years and see if it's turned me into an evil overlord yet.
Manji and Kal team up to kill these monsters called Toys. Manji does not get along great with Kal. Mostly because: 1) dude keeps trying to take his pain and that is his and 2) but what about the civilians????? It's possible Kal is too quick to consign people to the lesser side of greater good. I like them both and look forward to reading more. 4 stars
This was an awesome graphic novel! I love the character manji. Even though he goes out of control, is a bit of a handful, and looks like a filler, in truth he actually has a good heart. Although, it may be hard to tell when he always seems carefree and wants to do anything just to kill time. Especially fighting, one of the reasons why he's a body guard. However, his boredom is quenched when he meets Kal and the Cards. The are fighting against the creator of toys, AAA. Just who is AAA and why does he create toys murder people? There's a lot of twists like how fun loving toys are now bloody killers and it seems to have some references to the story of Alice in Wonderland.
