Cat shifters are adorable. I know, I know, Heller is a bad ass too and the shifters kick ass, you know, because, shifters. But come on, cat shifters. They even play like kit kats with their mates when they are in shifted form and the author has that down pat. It makes me squee.
This is a good series with a unique take on shifters and their dynamics. The clowder is a little behind the times and the humans who are mating with some of the betas are working on changing the minds of these stubborn kitties.
Heller and Lawson are really good together and I like how the author shows you how Lawson sees Heller for who he really is instead of the persona he's put out there to protect himself. That aspect of the story was really well done.
The story doesn't end on a cliffhanger necessarily but there are mysteries that need solving and I'll definitely be reading the next one.

I'm sad.
This was missing a lot of the heart of the first in the series, Trouble Comes in Threes.
This installment follows beta cat shifter, Heller, who hates humans, finding his very human mate.
We know from the first book about Heller's hatred, and here we find the reasoning behind it. I kept waiting for Heller's confession to Dolf, Tal and Kirk, and was disappointed it never came.
I was also disappointed that much of Lawson and Heller's relationship was told to me or off page entirely. That was a real bummer.
Finally, threads were left dangling (the werewolf stalker, Remi are mates!) and the lackluster ending just left me feeling flat and unsatisfied.
Ultimately though, I'm looking forward to Remi's story and to getting a (hopefully) good conclusion of all the plot threads left dangling from this story.

A nice story that was fun to read. It showed friendship, love and cohesion among the were-cats and you learned the sad reason why Heller doesn't like humans.
I will definitely read more books in this series.

I’m really enjoying this shifter series and this story broadens its paranormal universe a bit more outside of the cat shifters by adding wolves and the snake-like Vetalas. You can absolutely read this story as a standalone although Heller and many of the secondary characters were introduced in the first story.
Heller is a beta in his clowder and has a long history of disliking humans. This was painfully obvious if you read the first book where he was one of the strongest objectors to his alpha taking on a human mate. Nobody but Heller knows the reasons for his dislike and mistrust. When he comes upon his fated mate, the one thing he has always longed for, he can only believe his goddess is punishing him as the mating scent is coming from a human. Heller is torn but eventually runs off.
Lawson may be human, but he is no stranger to the world of paranormals as the two people he calls family are Vetalas. When he realizes that Heller is his mate he is devastated by the immediate rejection and Heller’s behavior is going to get worse before it gets better. The pull on Heller by his mate is strong and when he believes Lawson is in danger his protective instinct overrides his prejudices and Heller soon is intent on claiming his mate and protecting him at all costs. The relationship has a number of obstacles to overcome and although Lawson is pretty understanding of the need to mate, he isn’t going to just fully hand himself over to Heller.
There is just something about these big alpha males shifting into a large housecat that draws me in, especially in Heller’s case where he initially comes off as pretty self-involved and unlikable in his human form (the look on the face of the cat on the cover gives you a good idea of what you are in for with Heller). In fact, some of my favorite scenes in both books are when the men are in their shifted form and are playing with their humans or the other cats. It’s the opposite of most of the shifter books I’ve read since they are probably more dangerous as humans then as cats. M.A. Church does a wonderful job with the descriptions of the men in their cat form and those passages really jump off the page.
The relationship drama is really internal to Heller who needs to fight his own battle between his hatred of humans and his desire to claim his mate. Lawson may be hurt by Heller’s denial of him, but Heller can turn on the charm when he wants to and Lawson isn’t afraid to push for what he wants. Even though once Heller comes to terms with Lawson’s humanity things move quickly, as they tend to do with bonded mate shifter stories, there were still some parts that Lawson insisted on taking slowly. While the relationship is happy at the end, there are still things that Lawson has held back on, which I expect will be continued in the next book. I liked the way that played out and it balanced out Lawson’s otherwise easy acceptance of everything.
The book doesn’t just focus on the relationship. There is a threat that is making itself known and Lawson appears to be its target. As the men in the clowder try to figure out what it is and how to stop it, they must also deal with Lawson’s connection to the Vetalas and their connection to the clowder.
Heller is not the only one to find his mate and part of the storyline remains unfinished at the end of this book as the next installment is set up. I don’t want to give anything away, but there is going to be an interesting challenge that could affect the entire clowder in order for the next mating to occur and I’m really looking forward to it.

2.5 stars Right off the bat I can tell you I am not loving that ending for a couple reason.
1) It's a bit of a cop out
2) No "I love you"
This was a descent read but the writing style isn't my favorite. Men that are over 100 years old that talk like frat boys, always teasing each other about sexual encounters and whatnot. All the cheesy teasing in general. This is common with pack-like dynamics in PNR, and I'm never a huge fan.
A lot of the dialogue felt stilted to me. For example, 6 different people formally thanking Sam for providing Thanksgiving dinner. Very awkward.
The villain was obvious, but then I thought I was wrong since they couldn't possibly be that stupid. The "twist" at the end was also pretty obvious, and a blatant set-up for book 3
I dunno, this was fine. There were a lot of nit picky things I noticed throughout, but I never considered not finishing it. The sex was hot and I liked that emotional component and the role reversal. Instead of the unnecessary werewolf drama and set-up for the next book, I would have rather they completed this story with Heller finally telling his friends about his devastating past and where his hatred for humans came from. But that was just dropped as a, "yeah, I should totally do that sometime."
I like the characters in the next book, but probably not enough to draw me back to this series. Although I appreciate the author mixing it up and going for a more unique shifter book. If you liked book 1 then you will probably like this book too, but if some of the iffy reviews for book 1 scared you off and you though you might give this one a try instead... Think again.

Heller doesn't like humans. Let me repeat that - Heller does not like humans.
We know this from book one in this series, when Heller is an absolute ass to Tal and Dolf's human mate Kirk, and only grudgingly accepts the mating.
In this book, 2nd in the series, Heller gets what's coming to him when he scents Lawson, human Lawson, as his destined mate. Of course, nobody, not even a cat shifter, can change such a deep-seated aversion so quickly, not even when presented with the best smell he's ever smelled in his entire life, so Heller fights it.
And fails.
Miserably.
Lawson is no ordinary human. He's not shocked upon finding out that Heller is a were-cat, seeing how he's living with two supernatural creatures himself (the snake-like Vetalas), but he's pretty pissed off at being dismissed for being human nonetheless by our Heller kitty.
I liked how the author developed her characters here, and what obstacles she threw at them to give them reason to fight for each other. I liked that Lawson wasn't a pushover, and while he did a stupid thing, he did that for love. Of course, with this being a book about shifters, there's a mating compulsion at work, but that doesn't extend to romantic feelings - those come over time. No insta-love here.
This is shaping up to be a great series, with true love matches/matings, some action and suspense, because true love never has an easy time, and hot sexy times to round things out.
I can hardly wait for the next one. Please be writing that, Ms. Church.

Questo libro sta invecchiando bene. Sono felice.
Pro: Heller, Heller, Heller, Remi, Heller, Lawson, Heller, Kirk che compare come un funghetto e poi scompare, Marshall, Heller, Lawson, Janelle... ho già detto Heller? Perchè è HELLER! SI.. ho amato Heller. Ma anche Lawson. Mi è piaciuto come compagno... Heller e Lawson sono una delle mie coppie preferite quindi meritano solo cuoricini e ammmmore!! Se non vi piacciono siete dei gattini brutti e malvagi!
Contro: Ma quanto mi ha infastidito il fatto che Lawson non abbia un po' stronzeggiato? Cioè... boh... sarò entrata in modalità friendzone...ma avrei voluto che... ci fosse un po' più di caos tra i due e che Heller non confessasse in 3 secondi il suo segreto e dolore del passato. Avrei voluto arrivarci piano piano però dai... il supporto di Lawson è oro per me! Coppietta meravigliosa!

Ok... sono passate ore e... rinuncio ad essere coerente perché questo libro è stato l'AMORE! Il mio tesssoro, è entrato nella mia lista dei preferiti, me ne sono innamorata follemente ed è per me impossibile essere coerente ed umana quindi... mi limiterò a fangirleggiare senza dignità come mio solito confondendo chiunque! Non pensavo di adorarlo, dopo aver riletto il primo libro, ho iniziato questo per curiosità, senza troppe aspettative, ero curiosa semplicemente di scoprire la sorte di mr "Odio la razza umana perché è brutta e cattiva" alias Angry Kitten Keller. Non credevo di ritrovarmi una schifezza avendo capito che M.A. Church sa scrivere ma allo stesso tempo, vista la qualità del primo, neanche un capolavoro ero insomma pronta a sesso a go go, trama accennata, protagonisti meh e invece NO! Questo libro è bello perché non è solo sesso e ahhh che gioia! Questo volume è curato alla perfezione a partire dai personaggi. Kirk e company non erano brutti personaggi, erano simpatici e divertenti e ti ispiravano tenerezza ma... mancava qualcosa, alla fine del primo libro infatti non abbiamo scoperto molto del passato di Kirk di Tal e Dolf, sappiamo cosa è successo tra loro e come si sono messi insieme e poco altro, la loro relazione è nata in modo frettoloso e anche se l'amore poi c'è stato e si è visto... mancava ugualmente quel calore e complicità che nasce dal tempo, dalla conoscenza reciproca e la voglia di stare insieme invece in questo libro Keller e il compagno sono curati alla perfezione. Ci viene raccontata la loro storia, elementi del loro passato e finalmente possiamo capire il motivo di tanta ostilità di Keller verso la razza umana. Keller non è uno stronzo che odia umani a caso ma una persona che ha sofferto e si è dovuto tenere per se quel dolore, senza potersi confidare neanche con gli amici e l'alpha della sua colonia. Keller in realtà è un ragazzo gentile e che sotto l'aspetto di sarcastico stronzetto nasconde un cuore d'oro ed è proprio questo cuore che decide con non poca fatica di donare a Lawson, il suo compagno predestinato ed essere umano. Lawson è la persona perfetta per Keller perché riesce ad essere combattivo ed energico e allo stesso tempo dolce e gentile. Lawson nonostante il rifiuto di Keller capisce che il ragazzo ha paura di qualcosa ed essendo egli stesso a contatto con la comunità magica, vivendo con due creature soprannaturali, non si fa spaventare e decide di lottare per quel legame che sente crescere dentro di lui giorno dopo giorno. I due giovani quindi si avvicinano con fatica e M.A. Church riesce alla perfezione a rendere la giusta tensione, il desiderio e l'amore che entrambi provano anche se si conoscono a malapena, possiamo vedere Lawson con la sua determinazione a cercare di capire cosa poter fare per avvicinarsi al compagno e Keller che cerca inizialmente di fuggire ma poi si convince a fare un tentativo costringendosi a combattere contro i demoni del suo passato. Rispetto al primo libro qui il sesso non ti è buttato addosso da pagina uno, anzi... si arriva fino alla metà del libro prima di consumare l'atto e di fatto unire i due per sempre con la "cerimonia d'accoppiamento" prima di allora possiamo assistere alla nascita del rapporto d'AMORE, vederli parlare e conoscersi, Keller si apre al compagno raccontandogli la sua storia e il perché della sua ostilità e Lawson gli racconta dei suoi amici e di come è entrato a far parte del mondo magico, i due si innamorano piano piano e lo stesso Keller decide di non unirsi subito a Lawson ma di permettergli di fidarsi di lui, di farsi perdonare per le sue fughe ed è disposto ad aspettare pure mesi prima di reclamarlo come suo ed è proprio questo che mi è piaciuto. Il momento in cui i due decidono di fare sesso è perché entrambi lo vogliono e perché Lawson finalmente si sente sicuro e capisce di iniziare a provare qualcosa di forte per il compagno, non è come Kirk, Dolf e Tal in cui "Ops... ti ho per sbaglio morso e ora dobbiamo scopare se no moriremo tutti ma... tranquillo, non ti metto pressione!" qui è perfetto e anche il sesso è così dolce ed erotico allo stesso tempo che ti lascia quella sensazione magica addosso di amore e tenerezza (oltre ad eccitazione essendo i due molto caldi insieme :Q___) I due protagonisti sono quindi curati in modo quasi maniacale e la loro storia è dolce e commovente, divertente e a tratti un po' triste e drammatica. PERFETTA! Non è però solo questo ad avermi fatta impazzire. Rispetto al primo anche i personaggi secondari sono curati benissimo e se nel volume precedente venivamo a conoscenza dei coprotagonisti in modo rapido e superficiale... come riempitivo al sesso qui possiamo ritrovare i vecchi nomi, scoprire qualcosa in più di loro e conoscere due dei miei personaggi preferiti in assoluto, la pazza e scatenata Janelle e il dio e padrone dell'universo Marshell, il mio nuovo idolo e amore, un mix di sarcasmo, cazzutaggine, stronzaggine e dolcezza che non vedo l'ora di ritrovare nel terzo volume della serie. Janelle e Marshell sono due Vetala, due serpenti umanoidi che hanno poteri simili ai vampiri e si nutrono di sangue umano. In questo libro per la prima volta veniamo a conoscenza di un vero e proprio mondo magico, grazie al primo sapevamo che non esistevano solo i gatti mannari ma anche altre creature ma è solo grazie a questo che iniziamo a capire la gerarchia che guida il mondo in cui vivono i protagonisti, ci vengono spiegate alcune leggi non solo della colonia felina ma anche di altri soprannaturali, iniziamo a vedere le varie creature nel loro ambiente e vedere come spesso queste interagiscono tra di loro, esempio Keller incontra un mutaforme orso durante una delle sue uscite e quel piccolo secondo di dialogo, quasi insignificante agli occhi di molti ci mostra però una cosa importante, il rispetto che la comunità ha creato e la fatica e impegno per nascondere e proteggere se stessa agli occhi degli umani. Nuovamente vengono affrontati temi importanti in questo caso non solo la discriminazione umana, ancora presente nella colonia felina nonostante la presenza di Kirk ma anche l'amicizia, il perdono, la fiducia, la violenza fisica e verbale in una coppia, le scelte che una persona deve fare per amore, i dubbi etici e morali che una scelta di un certo tipo portano con se e come una scelta possa condizionarci la vita seppur giusta sotto un certo punto di vista, la differenza tra la cultura umana che condanna certi comportamenti e la comunità paranormale che in un certo senso... li giustifica e poi... il tema che io ADORO di più in assoluto, i preconcetti e le convinzioni assolute sulla società alpha, beta e omega. Questa cosa... è purtroppo presenti in pochi libri. Siamo abituati a romanzi in cui la popolazione è divisa in Alpha, Beta e Omega e questi ruoli hanno delle caratteristiche "fisse" agli occhi di tutti. Gli Alpha sono quelli virili e cazzuti che lottano contro tutto e tutti, gelosi e possessivi, violenti e protettivi. Gli Omega sono i bimbi, quelli piccoli, dolci e teneri, deboli per natura e indifesi e poi... i Beta che... dovrebbero essere per molti dei mezzi Alpha, non certo deboli come gli Omega e non certo sottomessi... una via di mezzo. Questi ruoli difficilmente sono messi in discussione o meglio... viene messo in discussione per lo più il ruolo degli Omega perché spesso associato in molti romanzi alla distopia, al Mpreg quindi con protagonisti abusati che sono costretti a lottare per difendersi dalle violenze, proteggere i loro futuri figli, evitare di essere usati come giochi sessuali, lottare come Alpha per salvarsi la vita ecc è però MOLTO difficile vedere un Alpha o un Beta sotto una luce diversa. In questo caso infatti Keller ci viene presentato inizialmente come un Beta cazzuto, lui stesso è abituato ad essere forte e virile perché alla fine è un Beta come Dolf quindi lui stesso in un altro luogo o tempo potrebbe essere al comando, diventare l'Alpha e comandare una colonia felina. L'uomo di conseguenza è abituato ad avere il controllo anche e soprattutto in camera da letto ma non si è mai soffermato a chiedersi cosa gli piaccia davvero, nessuno si è mai preoccupato di chiederglielo basandosi solo ed esclusivamente sul suo "status" e per la prima volta Keller è costretto a mettersi di fronte uno specchio.... di fronte a Lawson che come compagno gli chiede COSA vuole, come si sente e per la prima volta Keller si rende conto di non essere così forte come pensava. Keller non è un debole, è forte e pronto a lottare per il compagno e lo dimostra quando attacca senza pensarci un lupo mannaro per difendere il suo uomo, ma allo stesso tempo ammette per la prima volta di aver bisogno di qualcuno che prenda il controllo, che lo coccoli, che lo domini fisicamente e mentalmente, ha bisogno di sottomettersi e il fatto che decida di lasciare a Lawson il controllo, andando oltre i suoi pregiudizi e le sue paure rende la storia tra i due.... speciale,dolce ed emozionante. M.A. Church riesce a raccontarci quindi a una storia emozionante e dolcissima, ricca di romanticismo, comicità e con elementi erotici sfiziosi ed intriganti. Ovviamente anche in questo caso oltre alla love story c'è una sotto trama che in questo caso non si limita solo a una misera aggressione ma avvia un quadro molto più intricato che spinge il dolce e nerd Beta Remi tra le braccia del letale Vetala Marshell gettando le basi per il terzo romanzo che riprenderà proprio da dove si era interrotto questo volume, dal cliffhanger che almeno in questo caso... non è troppo molesto da spingerti a maledire tutti i santi. Un romanzo insomma PERFETTO che ha soddisfatto tutti i miei desideri con una bella storia, la comunità shifter curata bene, le leggi magiche spiegate bene, i protagonisti e gli amici caratterizzati bene, bei temi, dolcezza, erotismo, divertimento ecc Un libro che vi consiglio caldamente, se avete letto il primo e non l'avete amato PROVATE a leggere ugualmente questo che a mio avviso non ha nulla a che fare con lo scorso volume, protagonisti a parte, ma vi regalerà momenti teneri e spassosissimi e credo come me vi innamorerete di Keller e Lawson la coppia fino ad ora più bella dell'intera serie.
Questo libro sta invecchiando bene. Sono felice.
Pro: Heller, Heller, Heller, Remi, Heller, Lawson, Heller, Kirk che compare come un funghetto e poi scompare, Marshall, Heller, Lawson, Janelle... ho già detto Heller? Perchè è HELLER! SI.. ho amato Heller. Ma anche Lawson. Mi è piaciuto come compagno... Heller e Lawson sono una delle mie coppie preferite quindi meritano solo cuoricini e ammmmore!! Se non vi piacciono siete dei gattini brutti e malvagi!
Contro: Ma quanto mi ha infastidito il fatto che Lawson non abbia un po' stronzeggiato? Cioè... boh... sarò entrata in modalità friendzone...ma avrei voluto che... ci fosse un po' più di caos tra i due e che Heller non confessasse in 3 secondi il suo segreto e dolore del passato. Avrei voluto arrivarci piano piano però dai... il supporto di Lawson è oro per me! Coppietta meravigliosa!

Ok... sono passate ore e... rinuncio ad essere coerente perché questo libro è stato l'AMORE! Il mio tesssoro, è entrato nella mia lista dei preferiti, me ne sono innamorata follemente ed è per me impossibile essere coerente ed umana quindi... mi limiterò a fangirleggiare senza dignità come mio solito confondendo chiunque! Non pensavo di adorarlo, dopo aver riletto il primo libro, ho iniziato questo per curiosità, senza troppe aspettative, ero curiosa semplicemente di scoprire la sorte di mr "Odio la razza umana perché è brutta e cattiva" alias Angry Kitten Keller. Non credevo di ritrovarmi una schifezza avendo capito che M.A. Church sa scrivere ma allo stesso tempo, vista la qualità del primo, neanche un capolavoro ero insomma pronta a sesso a go go, trama accennata, protagonisti meh e invece NO! Questo libro è bello perché non è solo sesso e ahhh che gioia! Questo volume è curato alla perfezione a partire dai personaggi. Kirk e company non erano brutti personaggi, erano simpatici e divertenti e ti ispiravano tenerezza ma... mancava qualcosa, alla fine del primo libro infatti non abbiamo scoperto molto del passato di Kirk di Tal e Dolf, sappiamo cosa è successo tra loro e come si sono messi insieme e poco altro, la loro relazione è nata in modo frettoloso e anche se l'amore poi c'è stato e si è visto... mancava ugualmente quel calore e complicità che nasce dal tempo, dalla conoscenza reciproca e la voglia di stare insieme invece in questo libro Keller e il compagno sono curati alla perfezione. Ci viene raccontata la loro storia, elementi del loro passato e finalmente possiamo capire il motivo di tanta ostilità di Keller verso la razza umana. Keller non è uno stronzo che odia umani a caso ma una persona che ha sofferto e si è dovuto tenere per se quel dolore, senza potersi confidare neanche con gli amici e l'alpha della sua colonia. Keller in realtà è un ragazzo gentile e che sotto l'aspetto di sarcastico stronzetto nasconde un cuore d'oro ed è proprio questo cuore che decide con non poca fatica di donare a Lawson, il suo compagno predestinato ed essere umano. Lawson è la persona perfetta per Keller perché riesce ad essere combattivo ed energico e allo stesso tempo dolce e gentile. Lawson nonostante il rifiuto di Keller capisce che il ragazzo ha paura di qualcosa ed essendo egli stesso a contatto con la comunità magica, vivendo con due creature soprannaturali, non si fa spaventare e decide di lottare per quel legame che sente crescere dentro di lui giorno dopo giorno. I due giovani quindi si avvicinano con fatica e M.A. Church riesce alla perfezione a rendere la giusta tensione, il desiderio e l'amore che entrambi provano anche se si conoscono a malapena, possiamo vedere Lawson con la sua determinazione a cercare di capire cosa poter fare per avvicinarsi al compagno e Keller che cerca inizialmente di fuggire ma poi si convince a fare un tentativo costringendosi a combattere contro i demoni del suo passato. Rispetto al primo libro qui il sesso non ti è buttato addosso da pagina uno, anzi... si arriva fino alla metà del libro prima di consumare l'atto e di fatto unire i due per sempre con la "cerimonia d'accoppiamento" prima di allora possiamo assistere alla nascita del rapporto d'AMORE, vederli parlare e conoscersi, Keller si apre al compagno raccontandogli la sua storia e il perché della sua ostilità e Lawson gli racconta dei suoi amici e di come è entrato a far parte del mondo magico, i due si innamorano piano piano e lo stesso Keller decide di non unirsi subito a Lawson ma di permettergli di fidarsi di lui, di farsi perdonare per le sue fughe ed è disposto ad aspettare pure mesi prima di reclamarlo come suo ed è proprio questo che mi è piaciuto. Il momento in cui i due decidono di fare sesso è perché entrambi lo vogliono e perché Lawson finalmente si sente sicuro e capisce di iniziare a provare qualcosa di forte per il compagno, non è come Kirk, Dolf e Tal in cui "Ops... ti ho per sbaglio morso e ora dobbiamo scopare se no moriremo tutti ma... tranquillo, non ti metto pressione!" qui è perfetto e anche il sesso è così dolce ed erotico allo stesso tempo che ti lascia quella sensazione magica addosso di amore e tenerezza (oltre ad eccitazione essendo i due molto caldi insieme :Q___) I due protagonisti sono quindi curati in modo quasi maniacale e la loro storia è dolce e commovente, divertente e a tratti un po' triste e drammatica. PERFETTA! Non è però solo questo ad avermi fatta impazzire. Rispetto al primo anche i personaggi secondari sono curati benissimo e se nel volume precedente venivamo a conoscenza dei coprotagonisti in modo rapido e superficiale... come riempitivo al sesso qui possiamo ritrovare i vecchi nomi, scoprire qualcosa in più di loro e conoscere due dei miei personaggi preferiti in assoluto, la pazza e scatenata Janelle e il dio e padrone dell'universo Marshell, il mio nuovo idolo e amore, un mix di sarcasmo, cazzutaggine, stronzaggine e dolcezza che non vedo l'ora di ritrovare nel terzo volume della serie. Janelle e Marshell sono due Vetala, due serpenti umanoidi che hanno poteri simili ai vampiri e si nutrono di sangue umano. In questo libro per la prima volta veniamo a conoscenza di un vero e proprio mondo magico, grazie al primo sapevamo che non esistevano solo i gatti mannari ma anche altre creature ma è solo grazie a questo che iniziamo a capire la gerarchia che guida il mondo in cui vivono i protagonisti, ci vengono spiegate alcune leggi non solo della colonia felina ma anche di altri soprannaturali, iniziamo a vedere le varie creature nel loro ambiente e vedere come spesso queste interagiscono tra di loro, esempio Keller incontra un mutaforme orso durante una delle sue uscite e quel piccolo secondo di dialogo, quasi insignificante agli occhi di molti ci mostra però una cosa importante, il rispetto che la comunità ha creato e la fatica e impegno per nascondere e proteggere se stessa agli occhi degli umani. Nuovamente vengono affrontati temi importanti in questo caso non solo la discriminazione umana, ancora presente nella colonia felina nonostante la presenza di Kirk ma anche l'amicizia, il perdono, la fiducia, la violenza fisica e verbale in una coppia, le scelte che una persona deve fare per amore, i dubbi etici e morali che una scelta di un certo tipo portano con se e come una scelta possa condizionarci la vita seppur giusta sotto un certo punto di vista, la differenza tra la cultura umana che condanna certi comportamenti e la comunità paranormale che in un certo senso... li giustifica e poi... il tema che io ADORO di più in assoluto, i preconcetti e le convinzioni assolute sulla società alpha, beta e omega. Questa cosa... è purtroppo presenti in pochi libri. Siamo abituati a romanzi in cui la popolazione è divisa in Alpha, Beta e Omega e questi ruoli hanno delle caratteristiche "fisse" agli occhi di tutti. Gli Alpha sono quelli virili e cazzuti che lottano contro tutto e tutti, gelosi e possessivi, violenti e protettivi. Gli Omega sono i bimbi, quelli piccoli, dolci e teneri, deboli per natura e indifesi e poi... i Beta che... dovrebbero essere per molti dei mezzi Alpha, non certo deboli come gli Omega e non certo sottomessi... una via di mezzo. Manchmal gehen Wünsche in Erfüllung, aber gelegentlich anders, als man denkt. Diese Erfahrung muss auch Beta Heller Wirth machen. Mit ihm und seinen Rudelmitgliedern gibt es ein Wiedersehen im zweiten Band der Gestaltwandlerserie von M. A. Church.
Zur Handlung. Heller hat leider schlechte Erfahrungen mit Menschen gemacht und kann sich immer noch nicht mit dem Gedanken anfreunden, dass Kirk nun ein Gefährte von Dolf und Tal ist. Für ihn haben Menschen nichts im Rudel der Werkatzen zu suchen. Dass ausgerechnet ihm von der Göttin Bastet ein menschlicher Gefährte vorherbestimmt ist, hält er für einen sehr schlechten Scherz.
Lawson Dupre ist ein Mensch, der mit zwei Gestaltwandlern zusammen lebt. Von daher schockiert es ihn nicht wirklich, dass Heller eine Katze ist. Was er nicht versteht ist, dass dieser ihn immer wieder zurückweist und praktisch vor ihm flüchtet. Das ändert sich erst, als Lawson von einem Werwolf bedroht wird und Hellers Instinkte ihn zwingen, seinen Gefährten zu beschützen.
Die Autorin nimmt die Leser auch diesmal mit in die Welt des West Falls Rudels. Dabei geht es mal wieder heiß her. Denn ausgerechnet Heller, der es dem menschlichen Gefährten seines Hauptbetas nicht gerade leicht gemacht hat, findet seinen Gefährten. Damit wird sein schlimmster Albtraum wahr, denn dieser ist ein Mensch. Dass Widerstand gegen seine Gefühle für Lawson zwecklos ist, muss Heller schneller erkennen, als ihm lieb ist. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich anfangs ein bisschen schadenfroh war, dass ausgerechnet der menschenfeindliche Heller einen Mann zum Gefährten bekam, den er absolut nicht wollte. Allerdings nur so lange, bis klar wurde, warum er so reagiert und welche Schatten der Vergangenheit ihn verfolgten.
Mir persönlich hat die Geschichte um das Katzenrudel sehr gut gefallen, sogar noch besser als der erste Teil. Auch diesmal geht es wieder um Freundschaft, Liebe und Zusammenhalt bei den Werkatzen.
Die Story erhält von mir 5 Sterne und eine Leseempfehlung.

Nice reading. Nice Characters. Maybe too long descriptions of the day to day life: wake up, eat breakfast, go to work, go to the grocery store, go home, and again the new day starts. You think: now it's when it happens something bad and yet nothing happens. Too many situations like this. But for an easygoing reading, it's nice.

I love domestic cat shifters. Who would have guessed?
However, the romance here takes too many stops and starts for me with Heller's issues and then the side plot. I never really get the flush of a love story though the world building is nice and I like the characters.

Gahhhh....
The only reason I finished this is because I had the audiobook version. The writing is tedious and unnecessarily detailed. Despite that, the words don't give information and details that that actually add to the story. The relationship progression is told instead of shown and the romance aspect of the story suffered because of it.
Heller's anti-human biases were so over the top that it distracted from his character development. Neither he nor Lawson were particularly likeable. All of that combined with a predictable storyline made this very difficult to finish.
I do not recommend this one.

First off, this is a book dedicated to cat lovers. I. Am. Not. I am a confirmed doggy person but okay, I do appreciate the cuteness of kittens and the fierceness of the big cats. House cats, nah, not so much.
But...
If you checked to read the excerpt above, it is quite silly of me not to love this story from the get go. This is a story that, from the first few words, drew me into the life of a cat. The words have a cadence to them that sets the beat of this story making it one of the more visual reads I have encountered.
I cannot say this is a cute little read for this is quite a lengthy story. But I must say it is a cute little read because the catness of Heller is amazingly written by M.A. Church. This is an author who obviously observed the little wonders and got into their minds. I swear, I could imagine the cat speaking and thinking in their sweet, fierce little bird brains. **facepalm** sorry!
But as a human? Heller is... well, Heller. He's really nicer as a cat, let's leave it at that. See that cover? Yes. Exactly that.
Then there's Lawson. A human. Heller's mate.
Note: Heller hates humans. End note.
The hate Heller has for humans is the driving force of the angst here. He is unwilling to accept his mate is human. Lawson does not understand why Heller holds such hatred for his species and turn his back on him. The communication gap is a mile wide and with it, the plot gets complicated. The push and pull between them was amusing at times but frustrating in others. When they finally get to accept each other, there was a huge sigh of relief coming from me. But... the way this story ends. I am not sure if this is an HEA. I would most definitely categorize this as a hesitant HFN. You need to read to find out why.
Now, this is book two of the series. I have read book one but there is really no need to for the back story is enough to get by. However, the presence of Kirk, Dolf and Tal from Trouble Comes in Threes can jar the focus of the reader if they had not read that first book. Their presence is key to what is coming next.
For those who wonder at the title, well, it really is a situation where one is Behind the Eight Ball.

Irgendwie fühle ich mich grad seltsam. Auf der einen Seite ist es eine nette Geschichte, auf der anderen Seite frage ich mich, was das jetzt war. Heller, aber auch Lawson sind wirklich liebenswerte Charaktere, die mich aber nicht wirklich erreicht haben. Außer, dass es im 2. Band “nur” ein Zweier-Pairing war, wurde der Handlungsstrang meiner Meinung fast nach dem gleichen Schema geschrieben, wie beim ersten Buch.
Sorry, jetzt spoilere ich ein wenig: verflossene “Liebe”, ein (anderer) eifersüchtiger Ex, Stalking, Sachbeschädigung und körperlicher Angriff – analog wie Buch 1. Tut mir leid, aber das war mir zuwenig. Die Geschichte ist nicht schlecht, aber halt auch nichts Weltbewegendes.
Vielleicht hätte ich auch Buch eins nicht als re-reading kurz vorher lesen sollen, denn nun waren die “Erinnerungen” relativ frisch und der “Wiedererkennungswert” der Handlung in Buch zwei dadurch sehr hoch.
Eventuell ist auch mein Anspruch zu hoch, aber wenn ich eine Serie anfange, dann sollte es von Buch zu Buch zumindest einen unterscheidbaren Plot geben.
“Herausgerissen” hat für mich, dass M.A. Church mit Marshell und Remi zwei Nebenprotagonisten geschaffen hat, die mich neugierig auf Band 3 haben werden lassen. Da ich das Buch aber bereits im Original hier liegen habe (ja … manchmal bin ich beim Bücherkauf echt enthusiastisch *g*), werde ich es mir irgendwann mal zu Gemüte führen. Hibbelig auf die deutsche Übersetzung warten, werde ich in diesem Falle nicht.
Nun denn, harren wir der Bücher, die da kommen werden :-).

✔ Letto! Seguendo la linea del primo, anche qui un membro della colonia di gatti mannaro trova il suo compagno predestinato e per lui invece di sentire la gioia che investe i fortunati, lui è arrabbiato e disgustato perché il suo compagno è un umano. Vi ricordate di Heller nel primo libro e di come ha trattato Kirk? La dea Bast ha deciso che si meritava una lezioncina per imparare che in tutte le razze ci sono dei elementi buoni e della mela marcia. Dovrà impara e in fretta, perché il suo umano è anche minacciato da un brutto lupo cattivo.
Potrà il nostro gattino infernale, perdonare la mancanza di Lawson in non essere un sovrannaturale come lui e accettare il regalo della dea Bast?

Lawson is human but aware of the paranormal since his 2 best friends are Vetalas. When he understands that Heller is his mate and rejected him, he’s hurt.
But when Lawson’s life is threatened, Heller doesn’t hesitate. He needs to protect his mate, human or not, it doesn’t matter anymore.
I really like this series.
At first, in book 1, I can say that I disliked Heller, a lot, he was a total asshole with Kirk. But he saved his life, so by the end, I didn’t know what to do with him. In this book, I get to know him better. He’s a great guy deep down, funny, kind and sweet. When I understood why he hated humans, I was sad and horrified for him and what he been through alone. I really love his sensibility and fragility that he shows only to his mate.
Lawson is sweet, funny, loyal, and very dominant. Even if Heller is a beta, a position of power in the clowder, Lawson isn’t impressed at all. He’s also very loyal to his friends first, but when Heller came into his life, he became his everything, and I loved it. I loved Lawson’s banter, he reminds me of Kirk, human yes, but the cats don’t get their tongues (Yes, pun totally intend).
Anyway, M.A Church keeps entertaining me with this book and this series. The only thing is there wasn’t a lot of sex in this one (after the hot threesome in book 1, she gave me bad habits), but it was coherent with the story and the plot, so yes, it’s my pervy side who complains.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so of course I had to read the second one. And, once again, I was not disappointed. Let me point out that, while you will understand this book if you haven’t read the first one, I think you should still read it. Not only is it very good, but it gives a wider view of this universe and its characters.
First of all, let me compliment the cover. Whoever designs these covers is doing a terrific job. Just like the first one, this one perfectly represents the characters (at least as they are at first). The way the man holds a cat who looks as if he doesn’t want to be there is just perfect.
Now, on the book. Those who read Trouble Comes in Threes, are already familiar with Heller. His hatred for humans was made perfectly clear and, by reading this book, I now understand him better. You see, he has a very understandable reason to hate them, and the more I knew about him, the more sympathetic he became. As this book starts, his hatred hasn’t stopped… until he finds out that his goddess gave him a human mate. At first shocked and angry, he begins to realize that maybe the goddess knows what she’s doing and that this mate may be exactly what he needs.
Said mate, Lawson, is no stranger to paranormals. In fact, he has been living with two of them for the past decade. At first confused by Heller’s reluctance to take him as a mate, he slowly begins to understand him and realizes that, behind that tough, prejudiced façade, is a sweet, sensitive guy who desperately needs love.
The chemistry between the two is fantastic. The sex scenes are pretty good, but what I really loved was how their relationship develops. There’s no instant love here. It flourishes and develops throughout the book. The minute Heller opens up, he opens his eyes to the wonderful man he has beside and Lawson does a lot to boost his self esteem. It’s just beautiful to read.
I also really enjoy the worldbuilding. The previous book did a great job at introducing us to this world, this one does a great job at expanding it. We are introduced to other kinds of paranormals, namely the snakelike vetalas and werewolves. Vampires are also mentioned (as they had been in book 1), which leads me to believe that they might be playing a part in a future book. And we get a hint of shifter-human hybrids, which would certainly be interesting to see.
It also fixed a problem I had with the previous book: alternating between first and third person narration. Here, the author sticks to first person.
Finally, we get a taste of what the next book will be about (according to the author’s blog, it’s titled It Takes two to Tango). Personally, I can’t wait for it. I’m really enjoying this series.

I had gotten to the point I’d wondered if this day would ever happen, and now it had. He was mine. I couldn’t believe it… he was mine! The perfect man for me. Someone who would understand me and love me… and maybe, just maybe, accept me for who I was. Faults and all. There were many, I knew. Gods… a mate. I’d never felt this sense of belonging before.

Once again, M.A. Church delivers a fun, playful, sexy story about a feline shifter and his human mate. Heller does not like humans. Personal history left him with a strong hatred for the species. So when he scents his mate, and realizes it’s a human, he is horrified. He initially rejects his mate and refuses to acknowledge him, but his view changes when Lawson, is threatened.
“Can I treat you like a cat?” My favorite scene is when Heller shifts for the first time for Lawson. And although he's known about paranormals for years, is a bit shy and doesn't quite know how to act around Heller's cat. They play for hours with the box of cat toys Heller has stashed in the living room. I said this in my review of book one, but Ms. Church really brings to life the persona of the cat, including all the quirky mannerisms.
Heller’s hatred of humans didn’t seem to make sense, until he explained to Lawson what caused it. I could totally understand where he was coming from. He experienced a horrific ordeal at the hands of a human, and it would be enough for any paranormal to write them off.
Lawson is threatened, but it’s really nothing to do with Lawson. And the story doesn't fully end at the end of book two. It is left unfinished as it shifts to revolve around Lawson's friend, Marshell. I can only hope we do not have to wait too long for the resolution and Marshell's story.
If you like cats, and you like shifters, this series is a must read.

This is a great month to grab a new paranormal story. Not all of us like the dark, scary stuff. Here is one that is not dark, has all sorts of unique shifters a little drama, and some hot steamy romance.
The stars of the show--oops-- I mean book, are Lawson and Heller. Heller is a werecat and Lawson owns a car detailing company with his two best friends Marshell and Janelle. Heller comes in to pick up his vehicle and smells is mate. He has longed to have what his heir apparent and his two mates have but he fears the Goddess has played a prank on him. What's the problem? Lawson is human.
There are lots of characters in this book. I liked the uniqueness of what Janelle and Marshell are. And we get to see Dolf, Tal and Kirk again.
I enjoyed the closeness of the characters and thought some of the stuff Heller does as a cat was so funny.
This is part of a series. But you can read this one fine on its own. There is sufficient background so you understand the clowder and what's going on. I do suggest you read the other it is a fun story
If you like werecats, unique shifters, a little mystery, interesting characters, mates, and some hot man-sex this is for you. Oh! Especially if you like cats!

Aaaand Church's frisky feline shifters are back for round 2, but this time the story focuses on Heller, the guy who didn't want Book 1's threesome to exist because one of the trio was human. Heller has issues with humans which is later revealed and it's disturbing. I didn't realize that it was THAT graphic, and I feel really, really bad for not liking him while reading book 1.
Anyway, of course Heller's mate is human, which he automatically HATES, but of course the mate pull is too strong. At least his human mate, Lawson, already knows about shifters cause his ex and best friends are shifters.
I gotta be honest, book 2 was just average to me. Heller and Lawson didn't spend enough time together, in mu opinion and the plot was weak. Really weak. I don't wanna spoil it, but I just gotta say that I was disappointed. It made me not connect well with either characters. Nothing really happened. Idk...
The book wasn't so horrible that I couldn't finish it for weeks, but it's just a 3 for me. I'll still be on the look out for book 3 though. :)

Well, I just read a story that had dog shifters, so I figured I would start one that was different - cat shifters! I enjoyed the first book of the series, and I'm happy to say that I also enjoyed this one! I liked Heller once we knew what was motivating his hatred of humans, and we really got to know him. However, it was a bit of a complete 180 degree change after he reveals his past...like, I wish there had been a bit more of a transition rather than just a complete change. I don't know, it just seemed sudden.
I also liked the addition of the vetala characters and I look forward to Marshell's story and getting closure on the overall storyline with them and the werewolf.

Cute, cute, cute. There are always wolf and big cat shifters but this one with house cats as the shifters is adorable. I loved the opening chapter where we get to see Hellar stalking a beetle and looking to pounce on a bird. Other than my cuteness overload this is a pretty standard shifter story. Shifter meets mate falling in love even though he doesn't want to, and some jerk doesn't like it. There is more to it but it follow the normal shifter book patterns making it an easy enjoyable read.

Non conoscevo questa serie edita da Dreamspinner press, ma quando ho letto la trama ne sono rimasta subito incuriosita.
Nonostante sia un secondo volume non ho sentito la mancanza del primo, infatti all’interno della storia si fanno riferimenti agli avvenimenti del libro precedente, aiutando così il lettore, che come me non lo ha letto, a farsi un’idea di quello che era successo, presentando personaggi vecchi e nuovi, dando anche alcune informazioni sui mutaforma.
Il POV all’interno del libro è doppio e in prima persona, permettendoci così di entrare in profondità nel modo di pensare dei protagonisti, che è allo stesso tempo semplice e complesso.
Heller è un mutaforma, per la precisione un gatto mannaro; è in grado di mutare in un gatto, non solo un po' più grande del normale, ma anche più agile e forte. Anche in forma umana è forte e, così come ogni altro mutaforma, ha parecchio appetito. Vive in un branco (colonia) e lavora come informatico all’interno dalla sua comunità; inoltre è uno dei quattro beta che in futuro dovranno proteggere il nuovo alfa. Ama essere ben curato e da molti viene considerato una prima donna. Ha un unico problema: detesta dal profondo del cuore gli umani (non senza motivo), infatti, quando entra in contatto con loro, li tratta in modo sgarbato e collerico. Questo suo atteggiamento gli ha procurato non pochi problemi con il suo futuro Alfa, nonché “amico” Dolf e il suo compagno Tal, quando la dea Bast ha dato loro un terzo compagno, un umano di nome Kirk.
In questo volume scopriamo che la questione tra loro non è del tutto risolta, ma col proseguire della lettura le cose fra loro quattro si chiariranno definitivamente.
Trovare il proprio compagno per i mutaforma è una cosa seria, perché va oltre l’amore convenzionale; loro invecchiano molto lentamente, il loro amore è per sempre, ed è come se trovassero un pezzo mancante della loro anima, di cui hanno necessità (e di cui non sapevano di aver bisogno fino al momento che si riconoscono), e non avranno nessun altro all’infuori del proprio compagno.
Non sanno quando può succedere, ma quando arriva il momento e la persona giusta, si riconoscono attraverso l’odore, un odore particolare che attira entrambe le parti, diventando ognuno il mondo dell’altro.
Questo accade anche ad Heller, ma quando scopre che il suo compagno è umano, rimane incredulo; se prima si comporta in malo modo fuggendo più volte, incapace di concepire perché gli sia capitato un compagno umano, successivamente e pian piano, con il bisogno di lui che si fa sempre più forte, lo costringe ad andare oltre il suo odio, avvicinandosi sempre di più all’umano destinatogli.
La dea Bast ha scelto Lawson per Heller: lui gestisce un lavaggio per auto con annesso negozio con i suoi migliori amici, Janelle e Marshell, con i quali abita.
Aveva conosciuto entrambi anni prima, quando dopo il college era andato a New York per lavoro. Dapprima aveva incontrato Marshell, col quale era andato a letto e che da subito aveva capito che non sarebbe stato l’amore della sua vita, ma nonostante ciò legarono molto, successivamente conobbe la sorella.
Quando un gruppo di uomini attaccò il suo amico (per ucciderlo), finì accidentalmente coinvolto anche lui e così scoprì che i fratelli erano dei Vetala, dei mutaforma che, rispetto agli altri, non si trasformano, ma che come loro hanno una forza sovrumana, che quando sono spaventati, o arrabbiati, o si sentono minacciati, mostrano, anche se rimanendo in forma umana, occhi da serpente e denti aguzzi; inoltre hanno un morso che può paralizzare e per vivere hanno bisogno di bere sangue.

Nel momento in cui Lawson si trova in pericolo, minacciato da un lupo mannaro, non ci pensa due volte ad andare in suo aiuto, facendolo trasferire da lui.
Quella sarà una buona occasione per entrambi, come suggerisce Lawson, per conoscersi meglio.
Da qui partiranno una serie di avvenimenti che cambieranno la vita dei due protagonisti, dei loro amici e di tutta la colonia che, ancora di mentalità chiusa, dovrà accettare un altro umano tra loro e non solo.
Ho trovato questo, libro davvero carino; l’idea dei gatti mannari mi è subito piaciuta, ma si scopre durante la lettura che esistono anche altri tipi di mutaforma.
La storia, leggendola, ricorda vagamente, per alcuni elementi del mondo fantastico dei mutaforma, i libri della Cochet come Il principe dei soldati, ma è una eco lontana.
Inoltre si legge davvero in modo veloce ed è davvero piacevole; mi è sembrato ben strutturato, i POV alternati li ho davvero apprezzati. Le scene di sesso non sono pesanti e non sono tantissime, permettendo una lettura leggera.
Verso la fine si ha la sensazione che da un momento all’altro debba succedere qualcosa di eclatante che poi però non arriva, almeno è questo quello che ho provato io, ma lancia comunque le basi per il volume successivo, che sono curiosissima di leggere.
In quattro e quattr’otto è un libro niente male, ha i suoi momenti seri e riflessivi, altri davvero divertenti, leggerlo è stato davvero un piacere. Lo consiglio a tutti.
Nonostante sia un secondo volume non ho sentito la mancanza del primo, infatti all’interno della storia si fanno riferimenti agli avvenimenti del libro precedente, aiutando così il lettore, che come me non lo ha letto, a farsi un’idea di quello che era successo, presentando personaggi vecchi e nuovi, dando anche alcune informazioni sui mutaforma.
Il POV all’interno del libro è doppio e in prima persona, permettendoci così di entrare in profondità nel modo di pensare dei protagonisti, che è allo stesso tempo semplice e complesso.
Heller è un mutaforma, per la precisione un gatto mannaro; è in grado di mutare in un gatto, non solo un po' più grande del normale, ma anche più agile e forte. Anche in forma umana è forte e, così come ogni altro mutaforma, ha parecchio appetito. Vive in un branco (colonia) e lavora come informatico all’interno dalla sua comunità; inoltre è uno dei quattro beta che in futuro dovranno proteggere il nuovo alfa. Ama essere ben curato e da molti viene considerato una prima donna. Ha un unico problema: detesta dal profondo del cuore gli umani (non senza motivo), infatti, quando entra in contatto con loro, li tratta in modo sgarbato e collerico. Questo suo atteggiamento gli ha procurato non pochi problemi con il suo futuro Alfa, nonché “amico” Dolf e il suo compagno Tal, quando la dea Bast ha dato loro un terzo compagno, un umano di nome Kirk.
In questo volume scopriamo che la questione tra loro non è del tutto risolta, ma col proseguire della lettura le cose fra loro quattro si chiariranno definitivamente.
Trovare il proprio compagno per i mutaforma è una cosa seria, perché va oltre l’amore convenzionale; loro invecchiano molto lentamente, il loro amore è per sempre, ed è come se trovassero un pezzo mancante della loro anima, di cui hanno necessità (e di cui non sapevano di aver bisogno fino al momento che si riconoscono), e non avranno nessun altro all’infuori del proprio compagno.
Non sanno quando può succedere, ma quando arriva il momento e la persona giusta, si riconoscono attraverso l’odore, un odore particolare che attira entrambe le parti, diventando ognuno il mondo dell’altro.
Questo accade anche ad Heller, ma quando scopre che il suo compagno è umano, rimane incredulo; se prima si comporta in malo modo fuggendo più volte, incapace di concepire perché gli sia capitato un compagno umano, successivamente e pian piano, con il bisogno di lui che si fa sempre più forte, lo costringe ad andare oltre il suo odio, avvicinandosi sempre di più all’umano destinatogli.
La dea Bast ha scelto Lawson per Heller: lui gestisce un lavaggio per auto con annesso negozio con i suoi migliori amici, Janelle e Marshell, con i quali abita.
Aveva conosciuto entrambi anni prima, quando dopo il college era andato a New York per lavoro. Dapprima aveva incontrato Marshell, col quale era andato a letto e che da subito aveva capito che non sarebbe stato l’amore della sua vita, ma nonostante ciò legarono molto, successivamente conobbe la sorella.
Quando un gruppo di uomini attaccò il suo amico (per ucciderlo), finì accidentalmente coinvolto anche lui e così scoprì che i fratelli erano dei Vetala, dei mutaforma che, rispetto agli altri, non si trasformano, ma che come loro hanno una forza sovrumana, che quando sono spaventati, o arrabbiati, o si sentono minacciati, mostrano, anche se rimanendo in forma umana, occhi da serpente e denti aguzzi; inoltre hanno un morso che può paralizzare e per vivere hanno bisogno di bere sangue.

Questo libro sta invecchiando bene. Sono felice.
Pro: Heller, Heller, Heller, Remi, Heller, Lawson, Heller, Kirk che compare come un funghetto e poi scompare, Marshall, Heller, Lawson, Janelle... ho già detto Heller? Perchè è HELLER! SI.. ho amato Heller. Ma anche Lawson. Mi è piaciuto come compagno... Heller e Lawson sono una delle mie coppie preferite quindi meritano solo cuoricini e ammmmore!! Se non vi piacciono siete dei gattini brutti e malvagi!
Contro: Ma quanto mi ha infastidito il fatto che Lawson non abbia un po' stronzeggiato? Cioè... boh... sarò entrata in modalità friendzone...ma avrei voluto che... ci fosse un po' più di caos tra i due e che Heller non confessasse in 3 secondi il suo segreto e dolore del passato. Avrei voluto arrivarci piano piano però dai... il supporto di Lawson è oro per me! Coppietta meravigliosa!

Ok... sono passate ore e... rinuncio ad essere coerente perché questo libro è stato l'AMORE! Il mio tesssoro, è entrato nella mia lista dei preferiti, me ne sono innamorata follemente ed è per me impossibile essere coerente ed umana quindi... mi limiterò a fangirleggiare senza dignità come mio solito confondendo chiunque! Non pensavo di adorarlo, dopo aver riletto il primo libro, ho iniziato questo per curiosità, senza troppe aspettative, ero curiosa semplicemente di scoprire la sorte di mr "Odio la razza umana perché è brutta e cattiva" alias Angry Kitten Keller. Non credevo di ritrovarmi una schifezza avendo capito che M.A. Church sa scrivere ma allo stesso tempo, vista la qualità del primo, neanche un capolavoro ero insomma pronta a sesso a go go, trama accennata, protagonisti meh e invece NO! Questo libro è bello perché non è solo sesso e ahhh che gioia! Questo volume è curato alla perfezione a partire dai personaggi. Kirk e company non erano brutti personaggi, erano simpatici e divertenti e ti ispiravano tenerezza ma... mancava qualcosa, alla fine del primo libro infatti non abbiamo scoperto molto del passato di Kirk di Tal e Dolf, sappiamo cosa è successo tra loro e come si sono messi insieme e poco altro, la loro relazione è nata in modo frettoloso e anche se l'amore poi c'è stato e si è visto... mancava ugualmente quel calore e complicità che nasce dal tempo, dalla conoscenza reciproca e la voglia di stare insieme invece in questo libro Keller e il compagno sono curati alla perfezione. Ci viene raccontata la loro storia, elementi del loro passato e finalmente possiamo capire il motivo di tanta ostilità di Keller verso la razza umana. Keller non è uno stronzo che odia umani a caso ma una persona che ha sofferto e si è dovuto tenere per se quel dolore, senza potersi confidare neanche con gli amici e l'alpha della sua colonia. Keller in realtà è un ragazzo gentile e che sotto l'aspetto di sarcastico stronzetto nasconde un cuore d'oro ed è proprio questo cuore che decide con non poca fatica di donare a Lawson, il suo compagno predestinato ed essere umano. Lawson è la persona perfetta per Keller perché riesce ad essere combattivo ed energico e allo stesso tempo dolce e gentile. Lawson nonostante il rifiuto di Keller capisce che il ragazzo ha paura di qualcosa ed essendo egli stesso a contatto con la comunità magica, vivendo con due creature soprannaturali, non si fa spaventare e decide di lottare per quel legame che sente crescere dentro di lui giorno dopo giorno. I due giovani quindi si avvicinano con fatica e M.A. Church riesce alla perfezione a rendere la giusta tensione, il desiderio e l'amore che entrambi provano anche se si conoscono a malapena, possiamo vedere Lawson con la sua determinazione a cercare di capire cosa poter fare per avvicinarsi al compagno e Keller che cerca inizialmente di fuggire ma poi si convince a fare un tentativo costringendosi a combattere contro i demoni del suo passato. Rispetto al primo libro qui il sesso non ti è buttato addosso da pagina uno, anzi... si arriva fino alla metà del libro prima di consumare l'atto e di fatto unire i due per sempre con la "cerimonia d'accoppiamento" prima di allora possiamo assistere alla nascita del rapporto d'AMORE, vederli parlare e conoscersi, Keller si apre al compagno raccontandogli la sua storia e il perché della sua ostilità e Lawson gli racconta dei suoi amici e di come è entrato a far parte del mondo magico, i due si innamorano piano piano e lo stesso Keller decide di non unirsi subito a Lawson ma di permettergli di fidarsi di lui, di farsi perdonare per le sue fughe ed è disposto ad aspettare pure mesi prima di reclamarlo come suo ed è proprio questo che mi è piaciuto. Il momento in cui i due decidono di fare sesso è perché entrambi lo vogliono e perché Lawson finalmente si sente sicuro e capisce di iniziare a provare qualcosa di forte per il compagno, non è come Kirk, Dolf e Tal in cui "Ops... ti ho per sbaglio morso e ora dobbiamo scopare se no moriremo tutti ma... tranquillo, non ti metto pressione!" qui è perfetto e anche il sesso è così dolce ed erotico allo stesso tempo che ti lascia quella sensazione magica addosso di amore e tenerezza (oltre ad eccitazione essendo i due molto caldi insieme :Q___) I due protagonisti sono quindi curati in modo quasi maniacale e la loro storia è dolce e commovente, divertente e a tratti un po' triste e drammatica. PERFETTA! Non è però solo questo ad avermi fatta impazzire. Rispetto al primo anche i personaggi secondari sono curati benissimo e se nel volume precedente venivamo a conoscenza dei coprotagonisti in modo rapido e superficiale... come riempitivo al sesso qui possiamo ritrovare i vecchi nomi, scoprire qualcosa in più di loro e conoscere due dei miei personaggi preferiti in assoluto, la pazza e scatenata Janelle e il dio e padrone dell'universo Marshell, il mio nuovo idolo e amore, un mix di sarcasmo, cazzutaggine, stronzaggine e dolcezza che non vedo l'ora di ritrovare nel terzo volume della serie. Janelle e Marshell sono due Vetala, due serpenti umanoidi che hanno poteri simili ai vampiri e si nutrono di sangue umano. In questo libro per la prima volta veniamo a conoscenza di un vero e proprio mondo magico, grazie al primo sapevamo che non esistevano solo i gatti mannari ma anche altre creature ma è solo grazie a questo che iniziamo a capire la gerarchia che guida il mondo in cui vivono i protagonisti, ci vengono spiegate alcune leggi non solo della colonia felina ma anche di altri soprannaturali, iniziamo a vedere le varie creature nel loro ambiente e vedere come spesso queste interagiscono tra di loro, esempio Keller incontra un mutaforme orso durante una delle sue uscite e quel piccolo secondo di dialogo, quasi insignificante agli occhi di molti ci mostra però una cosa importante, il rispetto che la comunità ha creato e la fatica e impegno per nascondere e proteggere se stessa agli occhi degli umani. Nuovamente vengono affrontati temi importanti in questo caso non solo la discriminazione umana, ancora presente nella colonia felina nonostante la presenza di Kirk ma anche l'amicizia, il perdono, la fiducia, la violenza fisica e verbale in una coppia, le scelte che una persona deve fare per amore, i dubbi etici e morali che una scelta di un certo tipo portano con se e come una scelta possa condizionarci la vita seppur giusta sotto un certo punto di vista, la differenza tra la cultura umana che condanna certi comportamenti e la comunità paranormale che in un certo senso... li giustifica e poi... il tema che io ADORO di più in assoluto, i preconcetti e le convinzioni assolute sulla società alpha, beta e omega. Questa cosa... è purtroppo presenti in pochi libri. Siamo abituati a romanzi in cui la popolazione è divisa in Alpha, Beta e Omega e questi ruoli hanno delle caratteristiche "fisse" agli occhi di tutti. Gli Alpha sono quelli virili e cazzuti che lottano contro tutto e tutti, gelosi e possessivi, violenti e protettivi. Gli Omega sono i bimbi, quelli piccoli, dolci e teneri, deboli per natura e indifesi e poi... i Beta che... dovrebbero essere per molti dei mezzi Alpha, non certo deboli come gli Omega e non certo sottomessi... una via di mezzo. Questi ruoli difficilmente sono messi in discussione o meglio... viene messo in discussione per lo più il ruolo degli Omega perché spesso associato in molti romanzi alla distopia, al Mpreg quindi con protagonisti abusati che sono costretti a lottare per difendersi dalle violenze, proteggere i loro futuri figli, evitare di essere usati come giochi sessuali, lottare come Alpha per salvarsi la vita ecc è però MOLTO difficile vedere un Alpha o un Beta sotto una luce diversa. In questo caso infatti Keller ci viene presentato inizialmente come un Beta cazzuto, lui stesso è abituato ad essere forte e virile perché alla fine è un Beta come Dolf quindi lui stesso in un altro luogo o tempo potrebbe essere al comando, diventare l'Alpha e comandare una colonia felina. L'uomo di conseguenza è abituato ad avere il controllo anche e soprattutto in camera da letto ma non si è mai soffermato a chiedersi cosa gli piaccia davvero, nessuno si è mai preoccupato di chiederglielo basandosi solo ed esclusivamente sul suo "status" e per la prima volta Keller è costretto a mettersi di fronte uno specchio.... di fronte a Lawson che come compagno gli chiede COSA vuole, come si sente e per la prima volta Keller si rende conto di non essere così forte come pensava. Keller non è un debole, è forte e pronto a lottare per il compagno e lo dimostra quando attacca senza pensarci un lupo mannaro per difendere il suo uomo, ma allo stesso tempo ammette per la prima volta di aver bisogno di qualcuno che prenda il controllo, che lo coccoli, che lo domini fisicamente e mentalmente, ha bisogno di sottomettersi e il fatto che decida di lasciare a Lawson il controllo, andando oltre i suoi pregiudizi e le sue paure rende la storia tra i due.... speciale,dolce ed emozionante. M.A. Church riesce a raccontarci quindi a una storia emozionante e dolcissima, ricca di romanticismo, comicità e con elementi erotici sfiziosi ed intriganti. Ovviamente anche in questo caso oltre alla love story c'è una sotto trama che in questo caso non si limita solo a una misera aggressione ma avvia un quadro molto più intricato che spinge il dolce e nerd Beta Remi tra le braccia del letale Vetala Marshell gettando le basi per il terzo romanzo che riprenderà proprio da dove si era interrotto questo volume, dal cliffhanger che almeno in questo caso... non è troppo molesto da spingerti a maledire tutti i santi. Un romanzo insomma PERFETTO che ha soddisfatto tutti i miei desideri con una bella storia, la comunità shifter curata bene, le leggi magiche spiegate bene, i protagonisti e gli amici caratterizzati bene, bei temi, dolcezza, erotismo, divertimento ecc Un libro che vi consiglio caldamente, se avete letto il primo e non l'avete amato PROVATE a leggere ugualmente questo che a mio avviso non ha nulla a che fare con lo scorso volume, protagonisti a parte, ma vi regalerà momenti teneri e spassosissimi e credo come me vi innamorerete di Keller e Lawson la coppia fino ad ora più bella dell'intera serie.

Il momento in cui i due decidono di fare sesso è perché entrambi lo vogliono e perché Lawson finalmente si sente sicuro e capisce di iniziare a provare qualcosa di forte per il compagno, non è come Kirk, Dolf e Tal in cui "Ops... ti ho per sbaglio morso e ora dobbiamo scopare se no moriremo tutti ma... tranquillo, non ti metto pressione!" qui è perfetto e anche il sesso è così dolce ed erotico allo stesso tempo che ti lascia quella sensazione magica addosso di amore e tenerezza (oltre ad eccitazione essendo i due molto caldi insieme :Q___) I due protagonisti sono quindi curati in modo quasi maniacale e la loro storia è dolce e commovente, divertente e a tratti un po' triste e drammatica. PERFETTA! Non è però solo questo ad avermi fatta impazzire. Rispetto al primo anche i personaggi secondari sono curati benissimo e se nel volume precedente venivamo a conoscenza dei coprotagonisti in modo rapido e superficiale... come riempitivo al sesso qui possiamo ritrovare i vecchi nomi, scoprire qualcosa in più di loro e conoscere due dei miei personaggi preferiti in assoluto, la pazza e scatenata Janelle e il dio e padrone dell'universo Marshell, il mio nuovo idolo e amore, un mix di sarcasmo, cazzutaggine, stronzaggine e dolcezza che non vedo l'ora di ritrovare nel terzo volume della serie. Janelle e Marshell sono due Vetala, due serpenti umanoidi che hanno poteri simili ai vampiri e si nutrono di sangue umano. In questo libro per la prima volta veniamo a conoscenza di un vero e proprio mondo magico, grazie al primo sapevamo che non esistevano solo i gatti mannari ma anche altre creature ma è solo grazie a questo che iniziamo a capire la gerarchia che guida il mondo in cui vivono i protagonisti, ci vengono spiegate alcune leggi non solo della colonia felina ma anche di altri soprannaturali, iniziamo a vedere le varie creature nel loro ambiente e vedere come spesso queste interagiscono tra di loro, esempio Keller incontra un mutaforme orso durante una delle sue uscite e quel piccolo secondo di dialogo, quasi insignificante agli occhi di molti ci mostra però una cosa importante, il rispetto che la comunità ha creato e la fatica e impegno per nascondere e proteggere se stessa agli occhi degli umani. Nuovamente vengono affrontati temi importanti in questo caso non solo la discriminazione umana, ancora presente nella colonia felina nonostante la presenza di Kirk ma anche l'amicizia, il perdono, la fiducia, la violenza fisica e verbale in una coppia, le scelte che una persona deve fare per amore, i dubbi etici e morali che una scelta di un certo tipo portano con se e come una scelta possa condizionarci la vita seppur giusta sotto un certo punto di vista, la differenza tra la cultura umana che condanna certi comportamenti e la comunità paranormale che in un certo senso... li giustifica e poi... il tema che io ADORO di più in assoluto, i preconcetti e le convinzioni assolute sulla società alpha, beta e omega. Questa cosa... è purtroppo presenti in pochi libri. Siamo abituati a romanzi in cui la popolazione è divisa in Alpha, Beta e Omega e questi ruoli hanno delle caratteristiche "fisse" agli occhi di tutti. Gli Alpha sono quelli virili e cazzuti che lottano contro tutto e tutti, gelosi e possessivi, violenti e protettivi. Gli Omega sono i bimbi, quelli piccoli, dolci e teneri, deboli per natura e indifesi e poi... i Beta che... dovrebbero essere per molti dei mezzi Alpha, non certo deboli come gli Omega e non certo sottomessi... una via di mezzo. Questi ruoli difficilmente sono messi in discussione o meglio... viene messo in discussione per lo più il ruolo degli Omega perché spesso associato in molti romanzi alla distopia, al Mpreg quindi con protagonisti abusati che sono costretti a lottare per difendersi dalle violenze, proteggere i loro futuri figli, evitare di essere usati come giochi sessuali, lottare come Alpha per salvarsi la vita ecc è però MOLTO difficile vedere un Alpha o un Beta sotto una luce diversa. In questo caso infatti Keller ci viene presentato inizialmente come un Beta cazzuto, lui stesso è abituato ad essere forte e virile perché alla fine è un Beta come Dolf quindi lui stesso in un altro luogo o tempo potrebbe essere al comando, diventare l'Alpha e comandare una colonia felina. L'uomo di conseguenza è abituato ad avere il controllo anche e soprattutto in camera da letto ma non si è mai soffermato a chiedersi cosa gli piaccia davvero, nessuno si è mai preoccupato di chiederglielo basandosi solo ed esclusivamente sul suo "status" e per la prima volta Keller è costretto a mettersi di fronte uno specchio.... di fronte a Lawson che come compagno gli chiede COSA vuole, come si sente e per la prima volta Keller si rende conto di non essere così forte come pensava. Keller non è un debole, è forte e pronto a lottare per il compagno e lo dimostra quando attacca senza pensarci un lupo mannaro per difendere il suo uomo, ma allo stesso tempo ammette per la prima volta di aver bisogno di qualcuno che prenda il controllo, che lo coccoli, che lo domini fisicamente e mentalmente, ha bisogno di sottomettersi e il fatto che decida di lasciare a Lawson il controllo, andando oltre i suoi pregiudizi e le sue paure rende la storia tra i due.... speciale,dolce ed emozionante. M.A. Church riesce a raccontarci quindi a una storia emozionante e dolcissima, ricca di romanticismo, comicità e con elementi erotici sfiziosi ed intriganti. Ovviamente anche in questo caso oltre alla love story c'è una sotto trama che in questo caso non si limita solo a una misera aggressione ma avvia un quadro molto più intricato che spinge il dolce e nerd Beta Remi tra le braccia del letale Vetala Marshell gettando le basi per il terzo romanzo che riprenderà proprio da dove si era interrotto questo volume, dal cliffhanger che almeno in questo caso... non è troppo molesto da spingerti a maledire tutti i santi. Un romanzo insomma PERFETTO che ha soddisfatto tutti i miei desideri con una bella storia, la comunità shifter curata bene, le leggi magiche spiegate bene, i protagonisti e gli amici caratterizzati bene, bei temi, dolcezza, erotismo, divertimento ecc Un libro che vi consiglio caldamente, se avete letto il primo e non l'avete amato PROVATE a leggere ugualmente questo che a mio avviso non ha nulla a che fare con lo scorso volume, protagonisti a parte, ma vi regalerà momenti teneri e spassosissimi e credo come me vi innamorerete di Keller e Lawson la coppia fino ad ora più bella dell'intera serie.

Per l’uscita di questo libro avevo messo la sveglia sia sul telefono che sul calendario: la sera del 9 ero in discoteca e intorno a mezzanotte mi sono defilata in bagno per poter comprare il libro, addirittura in borsa avevo il kindle così da poterlo scaricare all’istante, non che mi sia messa a leggerlo subito, ma ho avuto una scusa per andare a casa. Quindi l’aspettativa era alta, anzi altissima. Chi di voi non ha amato il libro precedente “Tre d’amore e di guai”? Io l’ho adorato e divorato, ho sofferto con Kirk e mi sono innamorata del trio.
Speravo che questo libro parlasse di Remi quindi potete immaginare la mia gioia quando ho scoperto che il protagonista era quell’idiota di Heller, che odia a morte gli esseri umani, facendo di tutta l’erba un fascio. Ci viene spiegata la ragione del suo odio, e se da una parte avrebbe ragione, dall’altra trovo che la mancanza di dettagli razionali renda la vicenda alquanto assurda. Dopo la lettura magari sarete d’accordo con me o forse no. Mi duole informarvi che Heller è abbastanza superficiale come personaggio e se pensate che in questo libro compia la grande trasformazione, beh, resterete delusi.
Immaginate lo sgomento di Heller nel riconoscere in un ragazzo umano il suo compagno. Panico, ansia e rabbia sono solo una parte delle emozioni che prova nel vedere e riconoscere Lawson.
Il giovane ragazzo umano è desideroso di affetto, vive con due Vetala, una specie di mutanti serpenti che bevono sangue. Vivendo già nel mondo soprannaturale, Lawson accoglie la novità del suo compagno con una certa tranquillità e speranza ma, ovviamente, appena capisce il carattere di Heller ha qualche titubanza pure lui. Lawson non è un sottomesso, e non è nemmeno passivo, anzi è testardo e arrogante e tende a volere il comando. Insomma i due non potrebbero essere più diversi di così, ma si sa che la Dea Bast non fa le cose a caso.
Le sorprese non ci abbandonano nemmeno tra le ultime pagine, soprattutto per quanto riguarda Remi e il suo desiderio d’amore.
Innanzitutto vorrei dirvi che il libro non mi è piaciuto, anzi è stato alquanto deludente, è mia opinione che l’autrice cercasse un modo per anticipare e accrescere il desiderio per la storia di Remi. Sicuramente comprerò il libro seguente, perché si preannuncia molto interessante e divertente. Questo libro manca di un vero antagonista perché fa parte della storia del terzo volume, quindi neanche è il caso di citarvelo. Lawson manca di spessore e in certi passaggi risulta anche molto noioso, Heller era una rottura di scatole prima e vi posso assicurare che la cosa non cambia con l’andare avanti del libro. Trama poco accorta, noiosa e ridondante, anche se ho apprezzato il punto di svolta finale con Remi come co-protagonista.
Oltre al danno anche la beffa, perché per capire a pieno il terzo libro dovrete per forza di cose leggere In quattro e quattr’otto. Le scene di sesso non hanno aiutato, anzi rendono l’atto meccanico e anonimo. Mi sa che faccio prima a dirvi cosa mi è piaciuto: i Vetala, e tutto ciò che portano in questa colonia di felini, è la parte più interessante del racconto. Questo mi rende malvagia? No, sono solo rimasta troppo delusa, ma ho grandi speranze per il terzo volume.
