Dear Author, The King is Dead. Long Live the King. This is the only private moment he is going to get to grieve his father before the entire kingdom/country/empire/province/whatever will expect him to be the perfect picture of their newly crowned king. I’m just glad I could be there for him. He is so dedicated to his duty and is well-loved for it by his populace, I am sure he will put everyone else’s needs before his own. I’ve loved him since we were children, two sons of nobility trained and raised together. I think something more could be growing between us but we have to take it slowly as the whole kingdom, etc is watching how the new king is going to settle into his role. I am beginning to hope that our comfortable friendship could grow into sweet happily ever after, with me by his side forever.

Kenzie Cade was born and raised in the South where she spends her days in the sometimes stressful field of private medicine observing interesting people and committing them to memory for later use. When she isn’t reading, experimenting with recipes, or being distracted by social media, Kenzie spends time with her family, friends, and the Pomeranian/long-haired Chihuahua mix who likes to keep her company while she writes. As a young girl, Kenzie dreamed of princesses and their white knights. As an adult (or sort of adult), she dreams of princes and their proverbial white knights, which she attributes to fellow Arkansan S.E. Hinton and her novel The Outsiders. Writing to keep the fictional voices at bay, Kenzie enjoys the journeys her characters travel to find their happy endings, and she loves the challenge of writing a great love story.
The first part was a thankfully short typical friends to lovers story: both parties were afraid to tell the other. Then there was a sloppy tacked on plot about betrayal and kidnapping. The world-building was interesting though.
I'm not sure why this story is rated so low...I liked it more than I thought those reviews led me to believe I would.
I thought the world-building was interesting and just enough not to overwhelm such a short tale, and I really liked the friends-to-lovers aspect...heck even that last bit of drama thrown in felt appropriate for the genre.
The only thing that felt off was requiring a Prince Regent to have a consort chosen before being crowned King because he needed "balance." That whole trope (as well as "grounding") gets a little over used; in this case, a simply law requiring such an alliance to make sure a line of succession is established or cementing the loyalty of the court/subjects would have been a better (and more believable) explanation.
Nicely done sci-fi short story. Great world building as friends Marcus and Prince Raaf finally confronting their feelings for each other. Even secondary characters were fleshed out. Intrigue and plots rounded this tale of love and HEA.
Lovable characters, a relationship that I could root for, and good world building. Too many questions I wanted answered. This short certainly had the makings of something interesting but it felt largely unfinished.
This started out pretty good. I liked the world that was built. Lots to know in a short book. Some of it was confusing because of so much information I think. It was written really well though.
There were no surprises and no drama (possibly because it was so short). Everything was obvious from the very beginning and it was just a bit too cheesy for my taste.
