As I said in my review of "The Skywalkers," the previous entry into the Rossler Foundation Mystery series, my opinion was that J.C. Ryan was tiring of this series and these characters and the writing showed it. I think this, the final entry into the Rossler Saga, gives more support to that argument.
Yes, it was fun watching how the Rosslers rescued all the right people and more or less oversaw the beginning of what may have been seen as a new beginning for humanity.
Ryan is very creative in his vision and his ideas for how the Rosslers stayed hidden, "off the grid" and pulled off the overthrow of the big bad mean narcissistic tyrannical villains are kind of fun. But, I found them fairly predictable and, again, I found the writing tired. I believe Ryan must have heaved a sigh of relief to be done with the Rossler Foundation. My guess is he was already well into writing his new books as he completed this closing volume.
As I said regarding "The Skywalkers," I believe that that book and this one can be left unread and not much will be lost to the readers. Based on the way this series got started, I thought it would be a five-star, six-book serial that might take its place as a classic in speculative fiction. Since I have the Kindle editions, I can't even use these last two books as door stops.
Recommended only to those obsessed with finishing what they start (this reviewer pleads guilty), but otherwise my opinion is that this is a sad ending to what had been a series full of so much promise.
