This is the first in a planned three book series featuring this setting. This installment is written in first person, sort of a diary format, as one man recounts his frantic, often hilarious and occasionally dangerous odyssey of preparing for the oncoming Zombie Apocalypse.
N.C. Reed has gone and done it again! This is a great book. Not really the norm for N.C. Reed as it is a first person account of a man named Shelton Drake who is a prepper who has done everything to try to be ready for anything that could go wrong and bring our society to its knees.
Oh...did I say this was just FRIGGIN HILARIOUS? Well, it is! Drake is writing what he experienced as the world goes to hell with a virus that is turning the public into zombies once bitten. His first account experience tells of his last attempts to prepare his home and obtain the needed items for what is coming his way. During carrying out his preparations for what is coming his way, he makes an alliance with 'Dr. Hottie' or Dr. Connie Kane and things just grow from there.
This first account has to be one of the funniest reads I have come across lately.
I really enjoyed reading this book as is the case with all the books that I have been able to read by N.C. Reed. I hope you will also enjoy reading this comical book as well as I did.
Below are a few quotes for FRIGGIN ZOMBIES by N.C. Reed;
Quotes:
"Man just can not have too much Duct Tape or Gorilla Glue."
"If you present a problem to someone and it's out of their comfort zone, they'll like as not turn it around on you."
"There's nothing wrong with learning from other people so long as they aren't idiots."
"Funny thing about the press. They don't mind lying to us, but try lying to them and you are toast."
Okay, the above quotes really aren't funny. I figured if you were really interested, you'd read the book yourself. 😜
I have not read a book in the first person style for quite a while. In fact, this book has some strong similarities to the movie, “ZombieLand”. It is an enjoyable read. The main character, Drake, is a bit intense. He is enamored with his beautiful MD, Connie. The bad news is the Zombies are on the way. Worse news is the government glosses over it until it is too late. The good news is Connie has decided to co-habituate with him. Imagine that, a geek and a MD. Even though I am not fond of characters that address their reading audience(just one of my style peeves) N C Reed succeeds in keeping it light with a plethora of humor mingled in to lines. The action is good and the characters are believable (maybe stretching “believable” a bit). It is a book I would recommend to my GR friends if this is your taste in reading.
I was disappointed that I'd reached the end and the zombies hadn't made an appearance. Well, there was just one brief encounter with the undead at the local hospital, but that was it. The whole story seemed to be about Drake (the main character) getting into his hottie doctor's pants...and staying in them. There was just too much macho bullshit.
A great afternoon / evening read! I always enjoy his down to earth "redneck" philosophy style injected into his characters. Sometimes I write down and use his quips (hope they aren't copywrited) at home. My wife thinks they are funny. Anyway a great book, and keep writing and I will keep reading! P.S. The Kindle account is in my wife's name (ssshhhh......)
Any book with zombies in the title is worth my time and Friggin Zombies is worth your time. This was such a great book about the beginning of the zombie uprising. The characters were fun and interesting. N.C. Reed if you read this review you need to do a second book to find out how Drake, Connie, and Ram are doing with the zombies all around them.
This was a decent ZA first person memoir told humorously. I liked it but I have a bone to pick. Halfway through the book the couple got some chickens and a chocolate lab puppy they named Ram. After this they barely mention him. Has Ram been locked in the garage for the past week? WTF? Animal abuse is not tolerated just because it is a zombie apocalypse. :-)
This is a good story, that' is excellent at describing the beginning of the zompoc and the prep to survive . Love the characters, ,full of action and humour, would love to meet Dr Hottie. So 2 questions, Will there be a sequal? I hope so NC Reed has another zombie book Tammy and Ringo and I really need to know if it's the same universe cos it's going to make a great crossover
Go figure. This read almost like you were sitting at the bar drinking a cold one while listening to a good friend recount his first few days of the zombie apocalypse. Editing problems around the soccer mom/soccer man, was enough to jar me from what would have been a five star read. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy zombies.
Thankfully, this was not the run of the mill ZA story. It's storyline is more original and you come to love the two main characters. It's also some good instructions for what to prepare for such a situation. I'm about to go get my next N.C. Reed book right now! Y'all must read "Odd Billy Todd!"
Yup, full of "The Man Card" stuff. Still funny though. "Can't Cure Stupid" is one of my favorite thoughts. The author often points that out in one way or another, thanks.
I'm not a Friggin Zombie kind of reader. But this was an enjoyable read. It's about his experience and introspection. This was NOT one of those that I thought "that's time I'll never get back".
If you're looking for new books I've hit a treasure! This book is short and hilarious and one of my favorite topics, friggin zombies. However, N.C. Reed has a few more stories and I've loved them all. Check him out, you won't be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this. It was a great zom-poc with a hint of wittiness too. NC Reed is becoming one of my favorites authors. After reading fire from the sky and now this, I'm about to download my next Reed read.
I really enjoy Reed's books, I do hope you add a couple more books and turn this into a short series. Thanks for the great books you put out, even if words are mizzpelled. 😁
What can I say? He did it again. This author manages to get the plot, storyline, and humor wrapped into one beautiful sarcastic package. He does his research and it shows. Read it. Read all his books.
I have been a fan of Mr. Reed ever since day one , book one , whatever . I don't know why I put off getting this book for so long zombies are just not my thing . However , once I got it, I was hooked, all credit due to Mr. Reed's writing style . There is only one thing I don't like about all his books . For some reason they share a common set of two words: "THE END" . With some books that comes as a relief . With others it's a sense of finality , the story is done , day is over , good guy is riding into the sunset yada yada yada you know the score on that . However , with Mr. Reed's books inside my head there's this little boy who says more please ? Just a little more ? Frivolous remark aside , this book again shows why I regularly check to see if and see read as published again or anyone who likes some good action books , a hero or heroine with good basic values , and some interesting concepts to say the least anything by NC Reed read fits the bill. Well done sir Please keep writing Bill Hodges 8/31/19
Still love it. Funny and almost believable zombie book, if ever zombies were a real thing. This book is a great zombie story; it builds semi slowly and I just saw that it is part of a series. I don’t know if that is true but I guess I can forgive Reed for stopping the “Fire in the Sky” series for this series. It is funny and a fast read. If this is your first zombie book, it might ruin you for other zombie books. This book is pretty clean, there isn’t a ton of violence and like I said, believable if this could really ever happen, which, it can’t.
If this story continues then I expect that the violence will increase along with everything else but I will be watching and waiting for the next books. Love it! I just reread this book and while I think I did laugh a bit more, this book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger at all. It wraps up with a good solution to the zombie problem but if Reed has more, than I say, bring it on. I have read every one of his books and the only series I did not like is, “The Black Sheep of Soulan” series.
Lots of talk about zombies, but no zombies anywhere near our characters. This is a nice little story about a guy prepper who sees a video from somewhere in Europe about a town supposedly with a zombie problem. He isn't sure if it's true but feels that he should be prepared. After making many lists, he decides he needs to see his doctor for a tetanus shot. Well of course, he has the hots for his lady doctor, explains what's going on and she decides to participate with him. So the story goes from there. They actually never see any zombies but are assured they're all around them. Kind of tame for a zombie book, no blood or gore, nor any good action scenes . Enjoyable none the less...
I passed by this book quite a few times before I "borrowed" it with Kindle Unlimited. The cover photo and the title seemed very cheesy, and it didn't seem like the kind of thing I would enjoy. However, since I like the author's other post-apocalyptic stories so much, I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a very entertaining read, and I do recommend it. It is actually very cheesy in some ways, and there are proof reading issues. On the plus side, this a "getting ready for the Apocalypse" story without long, boring explanations of every piece of equipment. It was also funny with a little romance.
From NC Reed. Great characters in this SHTF novel. Despite serious subject main character narrative is hilarious. Book is fast paced and an easy enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book and this author to anyone who enjoys TEOTWAWKI and SHTF books!
