I found this story boring, mostly because of the way it was told. There was very little dialogue and most of the tale is just told to you, rather than experiencing it along with the main character, which is very boring if not done well and this wasn't. Ariadne is constantly referred to using her full name, Ariadne Silver, or with the addition of Alice, Ariadne "Alice" Silver, which was both annoying and peculiar. Needless to say this isn't a story I'd recommend, nor a series I plan to continue reading.

Interesting read

I had forgotten how good it was to read a book by Morris. Still baffles me why Eugenia chose to run away and steal from her parents. Oh well, bad boys appeal right?

Review:
I'm reminded of a phoenix rising from the ashes while I read this short story. Ariadne Silver has gone through some of the worst kind of abandonments throughout her life that no child should ever know - the loss of love, the fear of being hurt and the fear of never finding her way back home when she's left in a foster home, and furthermore, she wasn't spared the fact that her parents never wanted her in the first place. My heart broke seeing this little girl being constantly beaten down and fight for the little scraps of affection that she shouldn't need to beg, and yet, throughout her ordeal, Ariadne has pushed through to become one of the most successful businesswomen in the spa industry. I could easily keep going with the story line, however, I do believe that some things are best discovered by one's self - meaning that since the story is quite short, less than 60 pages, saying more about the book, would be giving away spoilers. This was the first time I've had the opportunity to read one of the Morris Fenris's novels and although I don't usually read short stories of this length, I did enjoy it - it was emotional, mysterious, romantic and it had the drama that all readers, whether we want to admit it or not, look for in books when we open that first page. The drama was easily and well balanced with the romance and mystery behind the 'Paris family mystery', and the relationship between Lucien and Ariadne one that I truly rooted for from the very beginning [think of that personal cheerleader in the background hoping for the best outcome] - but before I finish my review, I have to point out that for the 'short and sweet' short story, everything was jammed packed in what I would have expected in a full length novel, making me wonder if there would be a possibility to see and read much more. As enjoyable as the first novel in the Ariadne Silver series was, I'm incredibly curious to find out if the rest of the series has that jammed packed feeling or if there's one single theme/storyline/plot per book. All in all, I was more than happy that I had the opportunity to discover Morris Fenris and read The Love I Never Knew, the story of a girl who beat the odds to become a force to be reckoned with is more than I could have ever expected or even dreamed of having the chance to read or experience.

I received an ARC of this book (novella) in exchange for an honest review. With that being said, this review is very hard to write because I did not enjoy it, at all. I will pretty much always finish a book, even when I don’t like it, in part because I’m hoping it gets better. Well I cannot recall a time when I had to force myself this hard to finish a book.

The dialog, what there was of it, was very rushed and choppy. The main character, Ariadne Silver, is constantly in 3rd person, first and last name used constantly, an occasionally she is referred to as “Ariadne ‘Alice’ Silver”, just for something different. Sometimes Ariadne, sometimes Alice. I guess a coin was tossed over what to call her in that paragraph. The repetitive references to Alice in Wonderland grew very tiresome. All characters, and there weren’t many, were flat and not believable.

Ariadne was never really wanted by either of her parents. Grew up in foster care, but eventually made something of herself. Then the phone call that changed her life where she finds out about a grandmother that she never knew, who has left her a sizeable inheritance. Ariadne spends days ticked off at her dead mother, because she never told her. How about a little animosity for the grandmother, who clearly knew about Ariadne and knew where she was, but never reached out to establish a relationship. I guess finding out she was now rich was able to soften that sting. Off to Paris we go, where she falls in love, after only a few weeks, with the estate lawyer of all people. Lucien, bless his heart, never really gets to talk. Next thing we know, several months have gone by. Oh, hey, lets get married. I guess the reader should be grateful that Ariadne decided to have a flash back while she was high, otherwise we would know nothing about her “cute kitten heals” that were worn with her wedding gown.

I do not recommend this novella, and have no interest in reading the next in the series. Sorry.

**ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW**

I have no idea what to say so I'll keep this short. First off this book is very cut and dry with extremely minimal dialogue between the only three characters. Ariadne's life has obviously not been easy, but it's just like being narrated entirely by someone else. 30% into the book and the only person to have spoken is her and that's because she's always smoking weed so is always talking to herself. Oh and like one or two lines from a lawyer. This is the most loneliest book I've ever read. Then once she meets Lucien, they literally only show like two exchanged sentences between them before the story goes back to being narrated. Do you have any idea how boring it is to read an entire book without any dialogue being exchanged between the characters, without any of the action ever happening, only reading it from another's perpective and after the fact?

Only thing I do like is the comparison she uses from her life to that of Alice in Wonderland, that's very nicely done, very unique, but that's about it. Her infatuation with Lucien and his daughter is creepy and a little sad. I would have enjoyed this more if the characters are shown actually engaging with one another...again to damn dry.

(FYI: This book has been re-named to: The Love I Never Knew)

Previously published under the title of "The Love I never Knew"

Ariadne Silver series of books which there are 3 in the series and I would highly recommend reading them in order because they are cliffhangers.

Ariadne Silver is born into a family that really didn't want her and when she watches her junkie mother die from an overdose of heroin and is put into the foster system in Arizona. She eventually runs away and decides never to be at the mercy of anyone again. She becomes her favorite character, Alice in Wonderland and calls her customers Mad Hatters. However, along the way she decides to create a Spa business eventually owning three highly successful spas.

One day Lucien Valier contacts her from Paris with news that she had a grandmother who has recently passed away leaving her an estate worth ten million dollars. So she flies to Paris and soon realizes that she is in loved with Lucien and his invalid daughter Eugenia. The rest of the story continues with her businesses but ends with a traumatic event with Eugenia.

All in all the book is fine but you need to understand that this is a three-part series so keep that in mind.

A Grandmother She Didn't Know tells the life story of Ariadne Silver from her beginnings as the daughter of a drug addict mother and drunk uncaring father. She ends up in foster care and orphanages and prostitution at a young age. Saving her money helps her build a life until she receives word of the death of a grandmother she did not know in France.

The book was written like a narrator was telling the story and it was impossible to relate to the characters. I felt too much time and repetition of her childhood lengthened the book without adding any substance to the story; it just felt depressing. Although Ariadne finds happiness at the end this was not a happy story.

Not sure what to say about this book. It has great promise as the storyline concept is great but the mechanics of the writing were slow, filled with several errors and more like a resume of Ariadne's life. Plus with all the information contained within the pages there should not have been a cliffhanger.

In all fairness this is my first experience with Morris Fenris. So it's my only way to critique the writing. So perhaps Morris has re-evaluated his editing process.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I think it deserves a little more than a 3 but not quite a 4 I would say 3.5. The concept of the story if very appealing. I found it very interesting in it's comparisons of the Main Character to Alice in Wonderland. The characters just didn't seem to grab me. It is more of a romance than a mystery to me. The more you read the more interesting it gets. I don't think anything was wrong with it as much as it just didn't appeal to my personal taste.
This is my first book by this writer and I would try another.

An ARC was given to me for an honest review. This story starts off breaking your heart and it continues to be sad to me. Given her upbringing, money becomes her most important way to live a life she thinks she wants. Due to situations and circumstances that surprise her, she ends up doing well financially. And in the meantime she meets two people who change her life drastically for the better. This is a quick read with a cliffhanger. Enjoy I did.

*THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW*

Im not sure what to say about this book. It wasnt horrible but it could have been better.
I think if it was longer that may help. This book is about Ariadne Silver and how she over came a bad child hood. Ariadne is one of those characters that you want to see win by the end of the book and she did. The book just seemed rushed and didnt really have much interaction between the characters.

I read about 8 chapters of this, and really could not get into it. The premise was difficult to follow, as was the protagonist's weird life and view of the world. Not something I would choose for myself, tried to read as I was asked to review the 2nd book in this series. If it is anything like this one, it won't get a good review from me. Sorry.

Refreshing

This story tells of the real world in plain language without being crude or vulgar.
It goes from sad to happily ever after.
