It’s a darkness that doesn’t want to let go...

-

After being banished from her coven five years ago, Sarah vowed to stay away from black magic forever and instead tried to embrace the life of a white witch. However, now a family death has brought her back to her hometown of Raven’s Cove, and the good little witch is in line to inherit a powerful gift.

Peter is invisible. Voiceless. Imprisoned in the little cottage in the woods with no way out, waiting for the day that someone will set him free, even as his hope fades. He comes from a coven of white witches, yet was always tempted by the power of dark magic.

Sarah and Peter find themselves drawn together, and they soon learn that to escape the dark magic that controls them, they must first learn to embrace it.

Because the only way to rise out of the ashes is to first burn everything down to the ground.

Sarah Leigh was the daughter of an evil dark witch; she returned to her home after five years for the funeral of her grandmother. She was angry at her grandmother for casting her away from her home and family five years ago but she still loved her and wanted to be there for a proper burial. Raven’s Cove was ruled by her family; it was her home and where she grew up as a member of the black witches and dark magic. However; Sarah always fought the darkness and try to do what was right embracing the light and never let her darkness take over her. Her mother was jealous of her because apparently Sarah’s powers were unique and stronger than hers.

“I had always wanted light where there was only dark. I was a freak of my coven, of my family.” Sarah

description

Peter has been invisible for ten years as a punishment for falling in love with the wrong girl. He never expected what his future was going to be; he was bitter and angry but he couldn’t stop his love for her for “Sarah”. The minute he met her; he knew he would do anything to be with her at any cost but he never imagine that he would be forgotten and imprisoned forever. No one could hear him, see him, or feel him. He was son of the white witches the good power; therefore Sarah and Peter couldn’t be together because their magic combined will be the death of everyone. As Sarah was darkness Peter was light but the more Peter was with Sarah the more he would embrace the darkness in him which was the opposite of Sarah.

“My love for her was eternal, I lived and breathed my love for her, but the blackness inside me was choking my soul.” Peter

description

Sarah comes back to her grandmother’s home and meets Peter there; when she was cast away from her Coven her grandmother made sure that she had no memory of Peter and what he meant to her. However; the intensity of their love couldn’t be stopped. She is able to see Peter, hear him and even feel him. She can’t understand why she feels so much when she sees into his eyes but she doesn’t care he makes her feel complete and whole; something she had lost when she was away. Peter tries to hurt her with his words to push her away because he feels hopeless, no matter what he knows they could never be together and no one could ever help him get out of his imprisoned life, especially now that the only person that was able to do it is now dead.

“We were magnets, and we were drawn to one another…her memories may be stolen, but her feelings lived on.” Peter

However; the more time Sarah and Peter spend together before her grandma’s funeral the more she feels for him and feels her heart beat when she’s with him. She knows she has to save him and release that spell that was cast on him so he can be set Free regardless of the consequences. Peter doesn’t want her to try because he knows her family will kill her and he rather live invisible and lonely than to have her dead.

“Separated, we were opposing forces, but together we were two pieces of the same puzzle, united. Together our magic had the potential to destroy everything.” Sarah

“We were the opposite in every way. We were each other’s antonym; we were the anomalies of our family bloodlines, of our covens.” Peter

description

I was such a nervous wreck while reading this book closer to the end because somehow Sarah managed to get some of her grandmother’s magic without the other witches noticing it and by doing so she would be able to read her spells and set Peter free and not only did she wanted to set him free she knew she belonged with him. When the witches found out omg I was freaking out the entire time. The suspense was driving me mad the action on this part of the book was amazing. There was no sex on this book but the chemistry and the desperation of Peter and Sarah’s feelings and EPIC love hit me hard and I fell for both of these characters hard. I love them so much and the ending left me feeling like I wanted to hit something. I need more; I can’t stand it I need book two like yesterday. This author gives you such an amazing and beautiful romantic story but with a bit of suspense and secrets and you can’t help just reading this in one setting and wanting more. If you like a good soul mate romantic and tragic story you need to read this book. It’s defiantly an absolutely epic forbidden love story that gives you so much feels and leaves you wanting so much more. I will be stalking this author for the next installment in the amazing series.

Magic has a prize! 5 enchanted stars!

*Received an ARC for honest review for Wicked Women*

Sarah came back home to bury her past. After five years of exile, Sarah was among the coven and they were not happy to see her. They were threatened by her power in the past and more so now. While she prepares for the final farewell, the little cottage where she lived with her grandmother brings back bittersweet memories. They both slayed and enraged her. As she waited for the day when she could pay her final respect and leave this retched place forever, she sees him. To say she was startled would be an understatement. As she tried to figure out how he had been able to penetrate her protection spell, she realizes with great trepidation that the end maybe nearer than she thought. The coven had finally sent someone to take care of her. She soon realizes her mistake, and what transpires next changes the course of her whole existence.

Peter was lost to the world. He was trapped in the house. He had been cursed until eternity. No one could see him. No one could feel him. No one could hear him. He was a ghost. His imprisonment had stolen everything from him, his life, his love and his future. He was filled with bitterness and rage threated to overwhelm him whenever he thought about the person responsible for his fate. While he waited for a respite, he encountered Sarah and quite by surprise learned that she alone could see and hear him.

They were both stunned by this phenomenon and Sarah tried to decipher what this meant. But Peter was reluctant to disclose what had transpired to confine him to this shell of a house. And then as time passed Sarah got to know Peter a little, he was despondent, rude and cruel towards her. His every word was like hot molten lava burning her from the inside. But his presence still soothed her when everything in her life was chaotic. She realized that the monster that stood in front of her was a wounded beast and she vowed to help him escape his prison.

Sarah and Peter were opposites. One was ruled by the dark but wanted the light and the other craved the dark but was of light. Twist Magic is about opposites colliding, enemies coming together for one common cause. To not let the magics unify. This was a story about lost time and heartbreak. Yet it brings you two young and brave witches who would stop at nothing to make things right. Their past had paved away for their future but will they survive the coven’s hunt. This book made me ache with the sadness; it made me cry with the sheer unfairness of it all. And in the end I was left gasping because what comes to light from the darkness will smash your senses into smithereens.

I absolutely adore everything about Claire C. Riley's writing...it is always as magical and horrifyingly beautiful as it is deeply disturbing and utterly romantic in a "what if life was as much of a fantasy as this" way. If Romeo and Juliet had been witches, this might have been their story...a black witch and a white witch coven and the two young people who fall in love against all reason and not without serious consequences.
When Sarah goes home for her grandmother's funeral, she is walking into her possible death scene..and who she discovers hidden away in her grandmother's cottage is a shocking slice of the past come back to haunt her and leaves her more determined to gain what power she feels entitled to before she and her house guest disappear.
I loved the imagery in this book, the magic (of course) and the emotional pull of a woman who feels betrayed by those she should be able to trust...and all because she dared to love someone forbidden.
It was as scary and intense as it was sweet and full of hope for a better future. This first book leaves the reader anxious for more and wondering where this all will lead and what on earth is in store for Sarah and Peter next. I can't wait to feel more of the magic!

Can a good witch go bad, can a bad witch go good? Not sure if anyone has ever asked that question before, which is why Claire Riley did. Everyone has felt their soulmate is out there, the person that is the ying to their yang, the person who completes you. In two warring Covens, one destined to be light, the other destined to be dark, when the children who are to be the leaders one day decide they are attracted to everything they are not, they could destroy everything. In Peter and Sarah we see this, and so did Sarah’s Grandmother, who decided to take matters in to her own hands instead of letting them be together. Unfortunately Sarah remembers nothing of this, and Peter has been cursed to a life of solitude and imprisonment. Upon the death of Sarah’s Grandmother, Sarah returns from her banishment to say goodbye, but will she find her long forgotten memories, and so much more than she thought possible?
A wonderful read, I did not want to put it down at all. Although not a typical book of the Author, this was a well written book that kept my attention trying to find out what was going to happen to our two main characters. Looks like she may have another series on her hands, whether she wanted one or not!

"Leave my loneliness unbroken" -- This quote, from an all-time favorite Poe piece, perfectly embodies the core of Twisted Magic. To me, it means that the only thing that could possibly be worse than constant loneliness and lovelessness is being shown a chance at love and togetherness and to have that chance not come to reality. Hope can hurt more than accepting solitude. Riley's characters in Twisted Magic (Raven's Cove Book One) are aching, desperate, longing for love and deep connection. This story is about fighting for love-- physically, emotionally, and against impossible odds. The descriptions within the tale are rich and full; they leave you wanting more. The conflict is thought-out and [magically] realistic in a connective way that drew me into becoming part of the action. This is an introductory piece into Peter and Sarah's world, a glance through a keyhole of a door that I passionately wish to stride through. I'll be looking forward to the next installment. I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it will be as magical as Twisted Magic.

When I started this book I was a bit apprehensive, I wasn't sure it would be something I'd enjoy reading. Though I decided to give it a go as the book's written by one of my favourite authors.

I wasn't sure what to expect to be honest, I heard this was romance heavy and that's so far away from the books I would read. This how ever struck a balance, yes the foundation of the book was the love/romance between the two lead characters but it also dealt with loss, suffering, hate and a feeling of uselessness. The human elements were really strong and dealt with many emotions.

I found myself drawn in to a story that I wouldn't have thought of reading. It wasn't what I expected and I loved it. The magic, the coven, the relationships between Sarah and her mother/grandmother all brought this book together perfectly in tandem with the underlying story of hope between two people. The hope that what was once in the past can be again in the present.

Bleh. Terrible. We have insta-love (though the author did TRY to make it not insta, it still was insta), absolutely perfect characters, and a whole bunch of telling without any action.

I don't know why people write perfect Mary Sue characters (I understand why they do but still...) They're so boring. This on is raised in a group of "black" witches and her crime is "turning towards the light". Not because she'd done anything bad. Of course not. She was just feeling "lost". Oh, and she was sent away and banished, and all that, yet she feels no angry or hate towards her family for this. /sigh

Oh, and we have a DESTINY here too. A DESTINY. /runs away

I've been in a massive book rut.I haven't picked up a book in weeks, nor have I one-clicked anything until one of my favorite authors came out with a new book (not only new for her readers but a new genre for her too). Needless to say, my interest was peaked and I one-clicked "Twisted Magic" the moment it went live! Though it's the first book, it holds so much promise. Get your cauldron ready. A dash of Dark&Light magic, a pinch of jealousy, and a whole lot of forbidden love comes together to create a twisted concoction.

I thoroughly enjoyed this witchy book. Claire C Riley again offers us a clear view into this world and it's characters. A love story with horror elements, well-executed storytelling that draws you right into things immediately, picking sides right away, and cheering for them from the edge of my seat. I cannot wait for the continuation of this series!

Okay. I'm going to try my best to write this review without getting overly emotional. I literally just finished reading it, and I'm a raging ball of anxiety. Claire Riley is famous for her cliffhanger endings, but she will NOT be hearing the end of this!

Claire C. Riley is an author whose books I will read no matter what. I don't need to see the cover. Don't bother reading the synopsis. Just gimme. And witchcraft? YESSSSS!! Twisted Magic isn't a long story. I was able to read it over two sittings (and only put it down the first time because my hubby's a baby who can't sleep with the light on :P ). The first half of the story slowly introduces the reader to Sarah and Peter, and the connection between them that exists through every possible barrier. About halfway through, the tension starts to really pick up.

Sarah has returned home for a funeral. After being banished, she doesn't have any intention to stay. All she really wants it to say goodbye, then get back to her life. Her coven is dark magic, and she has decided to embrace light. Obviously, this creates quite the rift between them. I really wish there had been more about this tension. We get this one really extreme scene between Sarah and her mother (NO SPOILERS!) and I found myself wondering about what her childhood would have been like.

As soon as it hits that point, the book just rolls high speed down a hill, snowballing, leaving me struggling to flip the pages faster. "SHHH! Can't you see I'm READING?!" Until I get to that last chapter. Ugh. Punch in the gut. The ending feels sort of... right... but at the same time, it's not nearly enough. I need MORE! Get on that, Claire.

"They would be coming. And yes, I was afraid."

I'm already in love with this novella series! Captivating, intriguing and gripping. Claire C.Riley does it again!

We all know that Claire puts together a great book and tells a great story so I shouldn't have been surprised to love this book as much as I did. I was instantly connected to Sarah and I loved her chemistry with Peter. I wasn't expecting so much emotion from this book. It really moved me. I could feel the loneliness and the longing pour off the pages. They have a lot to work through as the series continues and I can't wait to see what happens!

The controversy and inner turmoil between good and bad was my favorite part. Witnessing Sarah and Peter struggle to hold onto the good while acknowledging the darkness that seeped in was spectacular. It is leading to epic storylines for this series. Man vs. man, man vs. himself, man vs. society. It's all in there. These novellas pack a punch!

"She can see me."

Full of witches and spells, dark and light magic, it's absolutely perfect for a Halloween read. But remember, it's so much more than that. The characters may be witches, but the struggle - the loss, the angst - it's something we can all relate to. How far would you go? How hard would you fight for love? For more? And to finally be yourself?

Twisted magic, a new novella series by Claire C. Riley, comes in just the nick of time for Halloween!! I loved this book for so many different reasons! I love Riley's story telling abilities in every book she has ever written, and this book doesn't fall short of that! This is something different than what she normally writes, she veered from the all the zombies and wrote a masterful piece of witchery! This book truly shows that Claire C. Riley can write about virtually anything, and it be just as amazing as the rest of her works!

This is a story about forbidden love. It's a story about good vs. evil and the internal battle one might have trying to fight against something that was already chosen for you before you were ever even born. Every person essentially has a good side and bad side, but what if you were made to be bad but had more good in you instead?
Twisted Magic asks just these questions and shows you how love can stand the test of time, and even predestined futures!

If you're looking for a nice Halloween read that has it all : love, loss, mystery, magic, old creaky houses and cauldrons, a handsome and mysterious man, then this book is absolutely for you!!!!

Another great read from Riley!

A phenomenal paranormal romance that hooked me from the beginning! I love the start to this new series by Claire C. Riley. Sarah is a witch who has been banished by her coven. She returns home to find Peter spellbound to her Grandmother's house. What?! That is right...he cannot leave. Peter is also a witch, however he is from a different coven. Both of these two pulled on my heart strings. I kept flipping the pages hoping that they would become able to live the lives they wanted to live.

"Sarah and I were never meant to be together. Yet our love had been a gift. After centuries of hate, we could re-write our covens’ story. We could have started something new. Something different. We had truly believed that our love could do great things. But that wasn’t how our story ended up. We were powerful. And if we were to be together, our covens would be blown apart. Everything we knew, everything we had ever been, would be over."

Claire C. Riley, you have outdone yourself with this romance. Thank you, for a refreshingly different read with an outstanding paranormal twist. Great read.

Author Claire C Riley has kicked off this new paranormal series with a lovely romantic foray into the story line.

I found this to be a relatively quick read, it was still substantial enough to make me look forward to where the story is headed. Don’t want to give away too much of the plot so I’ll leave this review here.

If you enjoy Witches of East End or that genre, you might enjoy this book. Cheers to the author!

Twisted Magic is a mysterious PNR about a witch outcast from her coven. The story begins with her returning to the homeland of her people for the funeral of her grandmother.

Right away the reader can tell that Sarah is trying to work something out in her head. Then a man appears from nowhere behaving strangely. Slowly Sarah pieces the puzzle together while trying to keep safe from the other witches.

The rhythm to this story is much like that first huge hill on a roller coaster. It's slowly building and building and building. Then it’s over the crest and everything is flying at the reader. This book goes out with a bang that definitely left me wanting the next installment.

Twisted Magic by Caire C. Riley
4 Stars
(Novella)
Five years after being cast out of her coven, Sarah returns home for her Grandmother’s funeral. Coming back isn’t easy, her coven practices dark magic and though Sarah is a very powerful witch and born to be leader, she is drawn to do good and struggles to continue the ways of her family. She knew returning home would be dangerous, the coven doesn’t want her here, they don’t want her to gain more power and take her rightful place at the head, one witch in particular will do all she can to stop her.
Peter gave in to his heart, fell for the wrong girl and paid a hefty price for doing so. For the last ten years he has been imprisoned in Sarah’s grandmother’s house, unseen and unheard by anyone but her. Now she is dead he is visible to Sarah, as she learns of his predicament she makes it her mission to free him before she leaves town.
Twisted Magic is a tragic love story, two witches from different covens, one dark, one white, drawn to each other against all odds. Their families know their union is impossible, it would change everything and cannot be allowed to happen.
After being in a reading flunk for months, not managing to find anything to hold my interest, (Which is not good as a reviewer) I really wasn’t expecting this book to be any different…. I was wrong! I was soon engrossed in this story and needed to know what would happen, it held my interest to the end and I completed it in one sitting. I will be adding book 2 to my TBR pile as soon as it is available.
This was my introduction to Claire C Riley’s work and I’m so glad I got the chance to read this leading up to meeting her at the Leeds Author Event next month where I will be looking at what other works she has to offer.

I knew when I saw this magical cover that I had to read this novella. And then when I read the blurb--black magic, white witch--I was doubly sure Twisted Magic was going on my immediate to-read list.

I'm not a huge fan of romance, but I was intrigued by the forbidden love in this story, and why both Sarah's and Peter's covens felt their love was detrimental. Claire tells Sarah and Peter's stories with so much emotion. I felt all of the love, anguish, and hopelessness.

Most of all, I love all of the magic. I like that it is addictive. It made me think of the 2006 movie, The Covenant, one of my all-time favorite magical movies. I was charmed by the coven's way of life, which was highlighted in the way a funeral of a coven leader is performed. The spells were enchanting, and I was pleased to see Sarah create and cast a spell using her grandmother's cauldron.

One of my favorite scenes is following the funeral. The way Sarah describes the members of the coven who blindly follow her mother is magical. They are the antithesis to Sarah. But she is also the antithesis to Peter. Sarah is light within the dark and Peter is the dark within the light.

I am looking forward to reading Broken Magic, Book 2 in the Raven's Cove series.

Sarah is going home to Raven's Cove after 5 years of being banished to her Grandmothers funeral. She has tried to stay away from Black magic, and has been embracing white magic.
Peter comes from a coven of white witches but has always been tempted by black magic. But that got him imprisoned in a cottage for the last 10 years with no way out. He is invisible to everyone except Sarah. They once had something great but Sarah doesn't even know who Peter is. Peter remembers everything about there shared past, but his hope is slowly disappearing of ever finding a way out of the cottage.

I loved the cover and synopsis for this book. It really pulled me in, but starting the book it didn't pull me in like I thought it would, but I did really enjoy it.
The storyline reminded me a bit of Romeo and Juliet, forbidden love, families sworn enemies (Or Coven's in this case). I loved the magic element of the story, it was really interesting to read the magic spells and the coven's ways. Like the funeral.
As the story goes on we learn about Sarah and Peter's past together and what happened to lead them where they are today, and it was really interesting.
I loved Sarah's character from the start, she got my interest going straight away. Peter, I couldn't really connect with him and I'm not sure why?!
But all in all it was a great quick read and I'm looking forward to the next instalment in the series!

This book was okay. I liked the authors writing style. The story is about a witch banished by her grandmother from her coven for falling for someone not deemed suitable for her.
Following her grandmother death she returns to the house she grew up in and uncovers the truth of what happened when she was banished. Faced with fixing the wrong that was made and facing her mother the new head of her coven.
It took a while for this story to get going and when it did it was good but overall it was too slow for me and a lot of the book seemed to take place in the same location. I don't think I will read the next one but it wouldn't put me off reading other books of this author.

Claire Riley proves she is not a one-trick pony with this offering. This is a paranormal romance with all the depth you expect from Claire. The tragic love story unfolds here as you meet Sarah and Peter. One is dark, the other...light.

In a short time, and using her exceptional skill at dialogue, Ms. Riley gives you a backstory and reason to care about the forbidden romance that burns between these two. If this is the prequel, I can't wait for the first full-length offering set in this world of witches, covens, romance, and magic.

What a great little story, i haven't read paranormal in a while so I wasn't sure how I'd find it but I really enjoyed it. Loved the light and the dark aspect with the forbidden love element. I am really interested to see where the story takes me in the next book as I was rather intrigued by the ending.

Sarah, a dark witch by birth, a white witch at heart. She has returned to bury her grandmother after being banished from the coven years before. This is a story of her struggles with her magic, the past, her mother and a mysterious man. Claire writes in a way that keeps you engulfed in the story, you cannot break away. I read this in one sitting. Excited for Book 2. Thank you Claire.

The story started off a bit on the slow side but it picked up quite a bit. The story and the world were interesting and it is worth sticking to the story. The ending was a bit ambiguous but this is part of a series. I'm curious to see where the story goes from here.

The author sends us on a magical adventure that will captivate you from the beginning with evil black witches and good white witches using their bewitching powers trying to control the covens.
Sarah was banished from her coven five years ago by her grandmother after turning her back on her heritage. A black witch seeking the ways of a white witch was perceived as being traitorous and unforgivable. She vowed to stay away from evil black magic forever and decided to become a wholesome, good white witch instead. She is now returning to Raven's Cove after the death of her grandmother and to inherit a powerful gift. Who will try to destroy her?
For ten years Peter has been imprisoned in Violet's little cottage in the woods. No one knows he's there. He cannot escape. Only a magic spell can set him free. He is a white witch and has always been tempted by the power of dark magic. To fall inlove with a black witch would destroy both covens. Will he ever be set free?
Even though magic is additive and alluring, a forbidden love is much stronger. I would recommend this book. Can't wait for book 2.

An amazing story with witches and magic. How will Sarah help. Intrigued trying to figure out how she’ll save everything. Loved it.
