Tumble off reality’s edge into myth, magic, and Scottish dragon shifters Book Description:
Bloated on chaos, the Morrigan leaves the Scottish Highlands to gather power. A trip through Hell yields quite the assortment of allies tagging along behind her. Fell creatures straight out of myth and nightmare that haven’t darkened Earth’s boundaries for centuries heed her call.
Heartily sick of the Morrigan’s maneuvering, the dragons are close to shutting their world off from everywhere, Earth included. If they do, every dragon shifter bond will be broken. Horrified, Lachlan and Britta launch a desperate campaign to hang onto their dragons. Magic may bite back, but if the dragons take their magic ball and go home, Earth will fade, along with all other worlds. That suits the Morrigan fine. War and anarchy are her favorite companions, and she collects misery like children gather beloved toys.
Arianrhod’s fellow Celts found out about her fall from grace and her half-Druid son, Jonathan. With nothing further to hide, she goes back in time hunting Angus, Jonathan’s father. Forty years apart was a steep price to pay. The world needs Angus’s magic. And Jonathan needs all the help he can get. Late to accept the power thrumming through him, he holds a key role in keeping the world from spinning off its axis. Reluctant at first, Jonathan finally gets it.
Absolute focus.
Absolute commitment.
Anything less and everyone he loves will pay an unthinkable price.

I hope I'm able to explain why this is one fantastic read. First it was written by an author who writes across many genres and is terrific in all of them. This story is a cross between fantasy/magic/paranormal written with thrills, danger, death, surprises, humor and darn right sensual romance. We again meet many of the quirky, smart, beautiful, handsome, evil and even time traveling characters from the previous books in the Dragon Lore series; as you read the series the author's main characters are people we've met before. I love that, as it actually turns the individual stories into one epic story filled with adventure, evil, love and so much more. I don't do spoilers, but I hope my feelings for this book have come through. You have to get this book, the final one in the series; and you will definitely get a better understanding of the story if you have read the first three in the series. What are you waiting for, go get it now.
Well all the loose threads got resolved, and the original two protagonists from the prequel finally got a HEA too. I found the antagonists too plentiful and the various pantheons of gods and dragons really frustrating. The whole thing was a little too apocalyptic for my tastes. Over all it was ok because the protagonists were likable and got me invested in the story.
I love this author and this book doesn't disappoint. as the last book in this series it was stellar. this series is better when you read it together in order but can be a standalone and there is definatly a HEA in the final book of the series
I listened to the audio rendition of this book. I found this enjoyable and loved the vocal characteristics for each particular character in this series, enlivened the story and made it even more enthralling.
This story makes you realize, that we are all reliant on each other. No species, irrelevant of their power, can isolate themselves, because as one "world" decline, so do those that have had themselves dependant on that world, also loose out. Magical beings, Dragons, humans and Immortals, all are intertwined.. One dies off, so do the others. Yes, interesting story, but also thought provoking stuff. The actual story, finally spins to a close when the Crow is finally captured. interesting operation that was. Yes, an interesting and at times, dramatic tale.
Wow! What a spellbinding finale for the series. The Morrigan gets what she deserves and everyone else gets their HEA.
'Dragon's Dare', book three but story four brings the truly spellbinding Dragon Lore series by Ann Gimpel to it's end. And what a fantastic end it is too. I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and absolutely loved it. I'd like to say I couldn't put it down, but it took me nearly five days to read this full-length novel. What I can say is I really didn't want to put it down and fell asleep clutching it three nights in a row. This action packed paranormal romance brings together all the characters and threads from the previous books, as well as a few new ones from other mythologies, for a final battle and a grand finale that gripped me from the first page to the last and I completely ignored everything I should've been doing in favour of reading this wonderful book instead. Thank goodness for slow cookers, microwave ovens, freezers and partners who can cook.
It's hard to write something that will do this terrific story justice without giving spoilers and I could go on and on, but I will say this book made me laugh and cry. I became emotionally involved with the characters and there were times when I thought a happy ending wasn't going to be possible for some of the characters. I felt their sadness, despair and heartbreak when things looked really black for them and the joy they felt when things turned out alright. I was relieved and elated when some of the bad guys found they'd been lied to by The Morrigan and either withdrew from the battle or became good guys in the war against the chaos and evil she continually perpetrated in her drive for power and control.
Filled with gods and goddesses, witches, mages and seers, dragons and dragon shifters, skirmishes and full-blown battles between creatures of myth and legend fighting for the future of not only Earth and all it's inhabitants, but Fire Mountain, home of the dragons and a whole host of other worlds. There's also love, laughter, steamy bits, and happily ever afters for Arianrhod & Angus, Maggie & Lachlin, and Britta & Jonathan, but they have to walk through fire to get them, in some cases literally. Jonathan finally finds his destiny and The Morrigan gets exactly what she deserves. Life goes on but....
This is a fantastic book, and like a lot of Ann Gimpel's stories, it's not really written to be a stand alone but the last in a series, and although you could read it on it's own, there's so much of the background to the characters and their relationships in the previous books that you would be missing out on a lot, not only on great stories with their own paranormal romances, but you'd get so much more from this one if you read the books in order. I'd like to give this book more, but since 5 stars is the maximum I can give, it gets 5 very well earned stars from me. I can't recommend it highly enough.
The final story is this series is about the fight to rid Earth of the Morrigan, aka the Battle Crow, & also a Celtic God. She thrives on chaos & destruction. With a trip thru Hell she gathers an assortment of allies to aid her in her plan to destroy Earth & cause mass chaos.
The dragons, fed up with her, are close to shutting down Fire Mountain—the original home of all dragons. If this happens all dragon-mage shifter bonds will be broken. Another bad this is if the dragons close the gates, Fire Mountain, as well as Earth & every other world out there, would fade due to lack of magic. Essentially destroying all dragon kind. The Morrigan is thrilled with this & starts her rein of terror with finesse.
The Celts find out that Arianrhod is Jonathan’s mother & tell them they need his dad Angus to help in the fight if they are to succeed. The travel back in time to get Angus where Jonathan finally accepts his role & embraces it with absolute commitment. Once Angus returns, the dragons are told about what will happen if they close off Fire Mountain & have to make a decision. They also have to decide if the Morrigan is defeated if they will help in her imprisonment since she is immortal.
This is a keep you on the edge of your seat, nail biter of a story. It’s filled with action, suspense, family, betrayal & justice.
This is a riveting, suspense filled conclusion of the battle to save Earth from total devastation at the hands of the powerful, evil, manipulative, shapeshifting Morrigan. Victory comes at a cost, however, and our band of friends and family will not go unscathed. This series has an overarching storyline that builds with each book, so it is best to start at the beginning, with Highland Secrets, the story of Angus and Airnrhod, the Virgin Huntress. Even at the end, they are still my favorite couple.
Jonathan Shea grew up among witches, but barely tapped the storehouse of powers he held, largely because of watching as his father slipped more and more into the dream world. Then when his father totally disappeared when Jonathan was seventeen, he focused on computers and game design. That was until he met Britta and her bonded First Born dragon, Tarika, in book three and his life changed irrevocably. Now Jonathan is fighting to protect those he loves from the Morrigan, the Battle Crow of the Celts, who is subverting the Dragon shifter bond and collecting allies from Hades to defeat those who stand against her.
THE FINAL BATTLE. Dragon's Dare is the fourth and final book in the Dragon Lore series. It can be read as a standalone. Though I highly suggest you read the books in the order they were written to better understand all of the characters as the "dark magic" storyline weaves through the books. All of the main characters from the first three books have their storylines continued in this book too. There is violence and hot steamy sex. Definitely 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author did a great job of describing the battle between good and evil and has well developed characters. There is a lot of history between characters that keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. I was happy that I found some of the questions I had from the previous books answered in this one. It definitely kept me riveted. As usual, there are some unexpected surprises as well. This entire series is definitely worth reading.
I received a copy of this book and chose to write a review for other readers.
What a way to end a great series. This I will say was a wonderful series that you won't be able to put down. Always a constant flow where you are left on the edge of your seat wanting more. I love how everyone was able to come together especially Agnus and Arianrhod. It was bitter sweet to see them finally back together just took what 40yrs!! The one part I wished more was that Jonathan would remember all memories they made him forget. But I did love the twist of faith that he plays and I must say I would to see what the future hold from him. There are parts where you will feel thorn and want to hit something but overall this book/ series can run all your emotions on high. The best was the ending she had it coming couldn't have wanted it to end any better than that!! You wanna know what it was well pick up a copy and won't be disappointed!! Happy Reading!!
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review
All I can say is OMG, this book was absolutely amazing! This is the final book in the Dragon's Lore series and it sure did NOT disappoint.
I do not want to give anything away but I LOVED how the book/series ended Justice was served (over and over) YEAH
You will learn a lot more about Angus/Arainhrod Maggie/Lachlan, Jonathan and Britta and their dragons.
I really cannot explain how this book effected me, There was Love, Happiness, Sadness, there was parts that made me say NOOOOO, and parts that had my heart thumping.
Ann Gimpel sure knows how to write a wonderful story full of adventure, mythology great sex, and Love. I HIGHLY recommend this series. Thank you so much Ann for taking me away from reality and transporting me to the Highlands and a true adventure.
I am a huge huge fan of Ann Gimpel and her writing. I love this dragon shifter series!!! I am so gutted that this is the last book in this series, I would love to read more.
There was so much that I loved about this book. Her descriptions were so lifelike and real, as you are reading you can see it perfectly in your head, she has built this world so so well and the charachters have developed so well throughout this series.
I loved the fact a certain Goddess gets involved ( no spoilers on that one:-)) this book definately brought everything together, answering questions but also giving you more, especially when related to the Dragons.
Loved this and it is a must read for everyone, it has Romance, thriller, happiness sadness and even pockets of erotica where you see the people without their guard up, so you see who the charachters really are.
I got this in exchange of an honest review, I had read all the others and was so happy to get the last one in the series what a great ending book for this charming series I loved that the characters main and second were all here and each doing the perfect role and helping the main characters or giving them a hard time and in the end it was ncie to see each couple together in peace and in love and finally capable of living normally after all the action has ended not only them but also the gods the dragons and every other paranormal shifter witch that was included in this captivating active book I cant wait to see what she writes next and I am sure it will be as great as this one since waw what a series that has them all
I was given a free copy of Dragon's Dare: Highland Fantasy Romance Book 4 by Ann Gimpel. Ann is one of my favorite authors and I have been looking forward to reading the final book in this wonderful and exciting series. In this book Ann brought together all the loose ends from the previous books. Again Ann has a way of writing that pulls you into the story and you become part of it. Her descriptions of the places and beings brings them to life for you. A true storyteller. This book brings closure to the series, as battles are fought, lost loves are found, loved ones are saved and finally the capturing and imprisoning the one behind all the chaos. Again another great read by Ann Gimpel. I highly recommend the whole series beginning with the prequel through this one.
Received this book free for an honest review. Hot Damn... This series ROCKS! What a great ending! Unbelievable. When in doubt think positive. It's nice that the god guys win sometimes, although the losses can be great. What a hell of a battle, no pun intended... Well, maybe a little. You've got to get this series! I can finally breathe now without fear of losing my breath. This series will make you cry, get pissed, laugh and wanna bitch slap some people-- but at the end of your journey you will have known what it feels like to be loved, cared for, supported, determined, and to fight for those that cannot. Remember to laugh a little more and enjoy the good times when they come because nothing is promised.
What a great ending to the series!. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and was sorry it ended. But what an ending. The best way to deal with Morrigan. I loved how after each book the other characters participated in the next one. It ties up everyone's lives nicely. Arianhod and Angus, Lachlan and Maggie, Jonathan and Britta, as well as the dragons. You also have a ton of Gods, Furies, Griffins, witches, and more. The magic, romance, and suspense keeps you hooked. I can't wait to see what Ann Gimple comes up with next.
I was given this e-book by the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. My conclusions are my own. I was not compensated in any way.
"When any of us give up on happiness and replace all the cheerful places with concepts like duty and obligation, we're being cowards. It's easy to hide behind obligations, substitute them for living a full life, but if we do that we lose an important part of ourselves along the way." Jonathan's part of the prophecy finally comes to fruition in this last novel of the Highland Dragons. Lots of twists and turns and surprising outcomes. Will keep you on your toes until the very end. Great characters, great story and some very steamy sexy parts. Enjoy! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow so much action and trickery..... you just have to read this series.
The Morrigan's take a little trip to hell and pick up some minions causes so many issues. Can our group of heroes survive let alone save the worlds magic? Because we all know none of us can survive without magic!
The Dragons will they close off Fire Mountain, and if they do earth will die and eventually so will Fire mountain. This could be the end of all Magics!
HEA's to go around for all of our couples and some forever friendships too.
Love this series, but sad that it has come to an end. (I will be reading this series again, and again.)
The Morrigan lives on Chao and death, no matter what the heroes do the Celts will not seem to help with one of their own making trouble. It has both couples and their dragons plus this story adds or I souls say brings back together Arianrhod and Angus together again after almost 40 years of speration! This book was fantastic so many twists and turns it will keep anyone on their toes! I loved it and talk about HOT it was steaming from 1 to 10 it was a 15! Amazing, entertaining and steaming I definitely recommend this one to all us dragon (witches, gods, you name it lol) fans Book gifted for an honest review and I honestly loved it.
Loved the book. I loved all of the thought and hard work the author did to make it as authentic with the history of the Celtic Gods, history of the witches and her own take on dragon lore. All of the characters, main and sub were very fleshed out and you had a feeling of "finally" this weezer gets taken down (the bad guy, or girl, or crow, or god, should I say?) Anyhow, I totally recommend this book. It has magic, mayhem, fair amount of steamy sex, dragon riding, back stabbing, spell casting, and time travel, to name a few of the highlights of the book. I will certainly be watching this author.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The final book in the Dragon Lore series brings all three couples back together for the ultimate battle against the Morrigan. Celtic and Greek mythology is woven so fiercely in with this tale of fantasy that it is heart-stopping wonderful! All the right elements are enlisted to make up the perfect fantasy novel which Ann Gimpel is a master at, Perfect plot, character depth and angst and the sensory words make you feel like you are a part of their world. A must read series!
No I'm not crazy my reviews for this series have been 4 and 5 stars but that's just how it is for me. As a series it would be 4.5 stars. In this book which wraps up the series we experience lots of different emotions from love, heartache, fear and anticipation on what will happen. I throughly enjoyed this range of emotions. I think the book/ series ended well, there was no loose ends and it does have HEA for the most part. If you like shifter, dragons and witches I highly recommend this series. Would I recommend this book/series YES
Loved the whole series, and this was a great ending. While I am sad to see it end, I think the ending was perfect. I was a little worried for a second at the ending, but it turned out better than I could have hoped.
Very glad to have stumbled upon Ann Gimple and her wonderful books, I can't wait to read more of her work!!
I'm glad that Lachlan & Britta launched a campaign to hang onto their dragons. I'm also glad that Arianrhod, went to find Angus, which is her half Druid sons dad. The world needs Angus's magic anyways and Jonathan needs all the help he can get..Great job Ann I so love this series...I love the passion and drive of words...and the history behind it all...keep up with the great books!
The action packed series continues its development ,dramatic scenes, dangerous adversaries and the strength of loving, protecting while the forces of murderous interactions keep trying to illuminate all in their way. A MUST HAVE SERIES IS ALL I CAN RECOMMEND!! Your enjoyment will increase with each addition to the series!
I can't believe this book is so good. It is the final book in the Dragon Lore series and to say the best was saved for last is no understatement. You will find all of our heroes from the other books ready to fight to save magic and the Earth itself. I loved reading so much I will have to take the time to read again in the future. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
And she said let there be dragons! And there was, lots of them and all other kind of creatures, myths and legends. I started this series and never put it down until I finished the last book. Ms. Gimpel has a way of holding the reader all the way through with her storylines and characters.
Finally those who with a interest in keeping magic an magical beings live an well are taking a stand against evil. No matter where they originated by the powers that be.
