A normal girl would be excited about turning sixteen, but Lola Ray isn't normal. Since her fifteenth birthday, she's been plagued by flashbacks to past lives, seeing herself die three different times - each on the day before she would turn sixteen. To make matters worse, Ian, the boy she loves now, has suffered in those shared past lives as well. When spring arrives, Lola is happier than she's been in a long time. But then Ian is in a terrible accident and the flashbacks to yet another past life begin. Can the tragic cycle be broken before Lola is killed again?
Leslee Horner is a wife and mother of two little girls. She grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Elementary Education. After college, she lived and taught in Columbus, Ohio for four years and San Marcos, Texas for two. She currently lives in Tallahassee, Florida where she volunteers with the youth in her community. In her teens, she came to love writing. The power to move people with words on a page spoke to her. Back then she wrote mostly poems and letters. It wasn't until age 32, that Leslee tried her hand at writing a novel. It was quite a journey and in the end, she knew she'd found her way back home to the calling she'd left behind. The award-winning novel, SUMMER OF STARS, is the first book in the Lola series, and is the third novel Leslee's written. Its follow up, AN UNREQUITED FALL, will be released in the fall of 2014.
This is a very well written book and I would like to read the first three books as I believe I would enjoy them more than this one. In the opinion of the book, and I am assuming the author, I am a bigot in that I believe God created a woman for a man and vice versa so I was a bit uncomfortable reading some parts of the book. I don't believe what I believe gives me or others the right to belittle, beat or kill anyone, however.
I gave the book 5 stars because it is well written and does hold the reader's interest as well as having a good storyline. I would not have bought the book, nor would I give the book to any of my grandchildren to read knowing its contents.
I received this book free from Goodreads First Reads.
Loved it! I was sad to find myself at the end of the Past Lives of Lola Ray series, but I enjoyed every minute of Lola's journey. I hope Horner keeps writing because she has some great stories.
