Note on Author Deborah Meier is Coordinator for Open Education in District 2, New York City, and a consultant to the City College Advisory Service to Open Corridors. She has been a classroom teacher in Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York, and a lecturer in early childhood at City College. She received an M. A. degree from the University of Chicago, and is the mother of three children in New York City Public Schools.
