Unspoiled by her beauty or wealth, Sarah Clarke travels an arduous journey by stagecoach to inherit the Arrow C cattle ranch left to her by the grandfather she never knew. However, the ranch foreman, a half-breed Indian called Storm, also claims legal ownership. The rugged, impassioned young man arouses conflicting emotions in Sarah. Because her own father was killed by Indians, she is first frightened by Storm and his ranch hands. Yet fear quickly gives way to love as his tenderness and compassion stir her heart. Although Storm's kisses convince Sarah that he feels the same, he admits that he is betrothed to another. Infuriated, Sarah vows to stop Storm from entering a loveless marriage. But how?
FORBIDDEN LEGACY is an amazing historical romance set in the old west. It is a clean and old fashion read with a few twists. It has a Christian storyline that has different personalities and cultures. It involves the overcoming of racism between Native Americans and white people. The best part is where loving an enemy changes the enemy into a friend for life.
Sarah Clarke, is a very well off 22 year old from Chicago. She had just inherited a Texas ranch from a grandfather that she had never met. Very nervous about heading west, Sarah and her Aunt Emily Ruggles, make their way to Dodge City, Kansas. There they were to meet her grandfather's lawyer, who was to escort them on the last leg of the journey to Texas. Since the lawyer was detained, he sends a group of cowboys from the ranch. The group is made up mostly of Indians, with a Mexican man and a Black man mixed in. Their leader, Storm, is a half-breed Indian who manages the ranch. Sarah is scared since her father had been brutally murdered by Indians. However, something about Storm tells her she can trust him. Soon they ALL become friends. When they reach her grandfather's ranch, things change. Not everyone at the ranch welcomes her and there is some question as to whether the ranch really belongs to her or not. Will Sarah be accepted by these people? Will she get to keep her ranch? And is there a future for her and Storm?
This is an interesting story about love, overcoming prejudice and opening your mind to new views on life and what makes a family. It is a unique, uplifting "G" rated love story that is a great read for romance lovers of all ages.
Sarah has been told she inherited the Arrow C Cattle Ranch so she and her aunt are taken to her new home by a half-breed, Storm who has been running the ranch and who also thinks he has inherited it. She has a fear of Indians and can't quite work out why she hasn't been attacked, scalped or even something worse by the ones she meets up with. Soon her attitude and understanding of them changes and she finds out for herself that they are a caring people. Then she realizes that she has fallen in love with a man who is betrothed to someone else and the story tells of her utter frustration, newly acquired faith and handling of this awkward situation. Throughout, Storm has been a pillar of strength and a very endearing person. Their relationship has changed and the feelings each has for the other grows and flourishes. This amazing story of love and faith is written by Barbara Goss with such compassion that I felt quite emotional with each unfolding situation and loved every moment of it. Leon Nixon was the perfect choice to narrate it and he was a pleasure to listen to. An audiobook version was provided by the author at no cost and this is my honest and unbiased review.
Sarah is traveling West from Chicago with her great aunt to visit a Texas ranch she inherited from her grandfather. Her father was killed by American Indians, and when she learns that her escort to the ranch is a group of Indians led by a half white/half Indian man named Storm, she's terrified.
Storm convinces Sarah to try to get to know the men as individuals. Slowly, Sarah learns to trust the men and overcome her prejudices. Just when she starts to feel more comfortable and begins to fall in love with Storm, he reveals that things at the ranch aren't so simple.
This was a sweet clean read with a Christian message. Barbara Goss doesn't gloss over the prejudices of the time period, but uses them to strengthen her message. Sarah was raised as a rich lady, but she adjusted well to the hard work on the ranch. Storm was honorable and protective, and didn't let the prejudice shown against his race cause bitterness.
Leon Nixon did a great job with the narration, the story is told from Sarah's point of view, but with a male narrator it felt like Storm had a voice as well. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
Author Barbara Goss does not hesitate to tackle the hard and forbidden topics. Here she takes on discrimination, specifically as practiced against the Native Americans in the 19th century. While somewhat Utopian in some aspects, the issues are spelled out clearly while the plot takes you on a voyage of eye-opening discovery. A couple of hours in the car with the kids shouting "Are we there yet?" is nothing compared to weeks in a stagecoach or wagon or on horseback (or even walking) crossing the vast expanses of countryside. And then there is the mystery of the missing will and the convoluted relationships.
Leon Nixon's relaxed narration [AUDIO] ably captures the vocal nuances of the various characters, adding to the drama and enjoyment of the adventures at the Arrow C!
Author gives a good lesson about forming opinions about people based on their race, looks, etc. Also on learning to see the good in others and learning to trust them and God. Truly a heartwarming read/listen. Author Goss has a way of making us examine ourselves and any preconceived prejudice that we may hold.
The narrator did a very good job bringing the story to life.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
Forbidden Legacy is a well written story full of twists and turns. I love the interweaving of multiple storylines on the way to happult ever after. But you don't really know who gets their HEA until the final pages. Barbara Goss writes a wonderful story and the narration for the audiobook is very well done.
Forbidden Legacy by Barbara Gods was a good read. Sarah is a 22 year old who just inherited a Texas ranch. Sarah and her Aunt Emily travel from Chicago to Texas. This was a great book about realizing everything may not be as it seems. It's full of deceit danger and finding love.
Storm and Sarah a beautiful story when I started reading this book i was hooked after couple pages.wanted to read more I would recommend this book and the author to my friends.
I loved this book. I love the story line and the strong characters. I like the spunk and determination that these characters have. Of course it is a Barbara Goss book, so expect some twists and turns that you never see coming.
Forbidden Legacy by Barbara Goss Narrated by Leon Nixon May 18, 2020 5 stars This book was full of surprises! Especially the ending! It was definitely suspenseful as we anticipated how God could or would resolve the issues! I enjoyed it very much! The narrator did a great job. Some characters were stilted in their conversations, but I believe that was to remind us that English was not their first language!
This book was a surprisingly good read. I almost gave up halfway through the book because the author used a strange plot twist. I didn't like where it was going. I kept going and I am glad that I did. Not the greatest book I every read but I give it four stars because of the plot twists.
It was an intriguing premise, but the writing was elementary, and the characters unrealistic. The interactions between the two main characters were especially unrealistic, especially for the time period represented.
