Jasmine White has a huge passion for writing romance with a Paranormal edge to it. She is especially fond of shifters and is the proud co-owner of the "Simply Shifters" blog along with her long time best friend Jade White.
Her paranormal romances will often feature a hunky shifter in some sort of form and lots of excitement and, of course, bedroom activity!
When she is not writing she loves to snack on baked goods and can not resist a tub of cookie dough ice cream!
I've not read anything by this author before and I don't think I'll be repeating the experience any time soon either. This is a shifter story about werewolves. I have no idea what time period this is set in, but it's certainly not contemporary. Layla is not as attractive as the other maidens of her village, the others have often taunted her by calling her fatty shifter, Layla tries hard to ignore them, but knows she's not like the other women whom are mostly tall slender and beautiful. So she's horrified when her brother one of the best hunters in their village tells her she's to be mated to the alpha from another village for political reasons, Layla is devastated. Worse when Aiden the alpha prince arrives he barely acknowleges her. In fact the morning after he arrives she finds him with another girl from the village naked.
When Layla's brother Coran goes missing while on a quest she takes off alone to search for him, she's saved from near disaster by Aiden who unbeknown to Layla had followed her.
There was the bones of a good story here it's the execution that lets it down. The writing is flat the author failed IMO to inject any emotion or depth to the characters, the editing issues need addressing as well, incoherent sentences, and plenty of typos. There's no world building at all. The blurb promises a steamy mating, I must have missed that bit, there's nothing steamy at all in this, and it's very rare to comes across such an unappealing description for the heroine, or a more confusing one, for instance her arms are described as pale strong and wide. Her breasts are large and brown, like perfect brown gourds with black nipples. She's also been cursed with her brothers physique! I struggled to finish this.

I read this book for three reasons, firstly it was free, secondly the reviews were excellent (seven reviews on Amazon UK six were 5* and one 4*) and finally I do love a good shifter book. One of the things I generally like most about shifter books is the fated mates part, you know the bit I mean where they meet for the first time and everything just clicks, this isn't one of those as we suspect from the blurb, this is a political match between tribes. It's also different in that Layla has been picked on her entire life with taunts of 'Fatty Shifter, Fatty Shifter' because she's not sleek and trim like the other girls in the village. I'll be honest I wasn't sure initially it didn't hold my attention and it seemed inconsistent at times: 'Her arms, pale with the many months of grey winter, were strong and wide. Her bosom seemed to follow the pattern, and her large brown breasts strained against the laced-up tunic....' How are her arms pale but her breasts brown? Anyway despite this and several other mistakes I continued on mainly on the strength of the reviews I'd read and it does become more. Once the story leaves the village it opens up and becomes far more interesting and this part I enjoyed reading in fact I stayed up to finish it as Layla and her chosen mate Aidan discover each other's strengths and weaknesses on their journey.
It actually took me a while to finish this book not because it was too long or that I was too busy, simply because I lost interest very quickly. It bugs me that I just c o lent get into it. There were so many grammatical errors that it distracted me as well as confused me a bit. The story line was okay but brought no real life to it's story if you know what I mean. I just couldn't get into it. I only finished it because I don't like to leave things undone. I wouldn't recommend it but I wouldn't say no to it either.
Inconsistent descriptions, Poor editing, and Typical plotline. Shifter community under attack, arranged political marriage, princely husband, reluctant bride, warrior brother disappears and reluctant bride goes in search of her brother *by herself*. What happens after that is not so surprising.
There is a bit of depth to the romantic relationship, but not enough to warrant the "I love you's". What was *really* difficult to get past in this novel is the blatant editing errors - the use of "he" when it should be "she", the use of the plural "isles" as an adjective when it should be singular "isle", "further distant" instead of "farther", and on and on. The location of this tribe was never stated explicitly, and the descriptions provided made it seem like it was originally meant to be a Native American tribe (the focus on animal skins and fur as clothing and references to brown bosoms and hair). Then there is a whole Scottish angle with the language used (lass and aye) and setting descriptions (auburn hair and highlands). The descriptions are also contradictory - the reluctant bride is described in one sentence as having brown bosoms and then in the next sentence as having pale skin, having brown hair and then having auburn hair. These things made it really difficult to read this novel, but I finished it because I have a perverse need to finish the books I've started. The answers of what happened to the bride's brother were interesting, but the end was wrapped up too quickly and the absolute end was too neat. I've read worse, but this novel still needs a lot of work.
I picked this up hunting for my next shifter read and it had several 4 and 5 star reviews. While it was a solid and complete story with only a few errors, it still wasn’t my cup of tea. I expected it to follow the title. An arranged mating that was possibly fought against but that you could tell their was hope for it from the beginning. An attraction, a moment of fated bliss. Didn’t get that. I felt like Layla was more connected with her older brother, who was a main focus in the story. I didn’t like how she caught Aiden with another maiden and I didn’t feel a real connection between them. It seemed less of a romance and more of an action story about rescuing a fellow shifter. The just happened to have sex along the way. So, not really my thing but it was still written well for what it is.
Right I will start with a positive its a good story line but that is the only good thing. My god this was awful, the writing was just terrible one is the women white or black because she describes her as both. The sex scene where cringe worthy and not sexy at all. Please Jasmine I hope writing is just a hobbie but if its not hears the best advice you will ever get. Get some proof reader preferably not friends or family you need people that will be honest with you, then maybe you can publish good book instead of this rubbish. I'm sorry to sound harsh. I wouldn't buy this book if i was you unless jasmine rewrites it what a load of...................... I'm sure you can fill in the blank
Here is a well crafted story that features a strong heroine and a doubtful hero. Their quest brings them together and strengthens them to reach their goals.
Not as good as her first 2 books. Still a good read, but very little naughtiness going on in this book which was a disappointment. So.. read it for the story line, cause it's unique, but if your looking for sexy werewolf shenanigans pick another of her books!
An emotional story with happy times intertwined with sadness. Keeps you reading & following the love that grows between a black wolf & white wolf. Unending love even in the dark times. Read & enjoy the journey.
It was about love of family and trusting in your heart that life goes on no matter what happens. Layla and Aidens story is fast and furious but full of adventure.
I liked this one, it was my first attempt with this author and i could definitively read more even if this story isn’t my favourite.
The universe isn’t too original but it’s well built and i loved how teh author explained the different customs between the different shifters packs/ villages. Layla is a charming character, i loved to see her discovering herself under a new light when the need arose. She is loyal and determined, very stubborn but also very kind. I was a little sad to see her cast aside like she was at first. Aidan isn’t bad himself...he is an alpha prince and we do understand him better as the story progresses and we learn from his past.
I guess that i regretted the fact that they both mated before learning to care for each other... i see teh circumstances, i know they were supposed too anyway but i prefer when it’s made by love not anguish or necessity.
All together it’s a charming ( with a lot of violence^^;;) shifter romance and without cliffhanger which is definitively better ( but i would have loved to see how they were going to make it between their 2 village^^)
Layla is not like the other female wolf shifters and has never felt like she belongs. She is shocked when she is told she is to marry an Alpha she has never met. Aidan does not seem any more interested in marrying her and she is not looking forward to this match.
When her brother needs her help, only she is willing to take a risk to save him. Aidan also steps up and it gives them a chance to learn more about one another. They realize there is more to one another than they they expected.
I enjoyed seeing a female character like Layla be strong and stand up for herself. It takes awhile to warm up to Aidan considering his first few interactions with her. They become a good team as the story continues.
The story started off slow and it took me awhile to get interested. I would have liked to see it move a little more quickly. It then moves a little too quickly at the end. An epilogue would have been a nice addition to tie up the story.
The author had a good idea for a storyline but the dialogue, character building, descriptions, and structure needs improvement to make it a higher rating novel. Editing is also a must. There's too many missing words, misspelled words, and grammar issues for a reader to enjoy the book. There's not enough character building or chemistry. While reading I was either editing the sentences in my mind to make sense of what was said and the story kind of go from one point to the other quickly making it feel like there's holes missing in the storyline. I will be holding off on reading more from this author until improvements have been made. I'm sure it'll come in due time.
It's about 2 unlikely persons forced into a marriage of politics for the clan. Before the courting can begin trouble comes from a neighbouring clan an sent out to investigate when word reaches back they been captured by the enemy the sister that is to be married sets out to find her brother that was captured her betrothed comes to her rescue an they both set out to free her brother. It's a action packed an some romance thrown in.really good book to read. 18+
I sincerely hope that this was a self-published item because if it wasn't, then the publishing house seriously needs to fire its editors. Haven't seen so many typos, grammatical errors and incoherent sentences in a good while now. I kept feeling like the author couldn't make up her mind because I was never able to determine if Layla was black or white. One moment she was described as pale with freckles and then as being dark.
I just gave up. Good premise just poorly delivered. Better luck next time!
Not for me. I couldn't move beyond 30% and even with skipping through the nonsensical parts. No POV's , almost written like a confused third party observer. The constant stuff deprecating dialogue was also annoying fur me. The premise is great and that was the only reason I downloaded via KU.
I was so impressed by this story. It was an epic adventure from the first page to the last. A relationship that grew through proper trials and tribulations was a pleasure to read - and what an ending! Brilliant shifter story. Loved it! Highly recommend.
This is a good book. It has action, mystery, the magic of werewolves and love in the end. The story line is good the characters strong. You can't help but pull for the main characters. A happy ending which I love so get it and happy reading.
This book is my first book by Jasmine White and it wont be my last. This book is very well written and the characters are very well developed. This book held my interest from the first page and I found it very hard to put this book down. I felt very connected to the characters in this story.
A wonderful story of doubt, acceptance and strengths when you decide to be more than what others expect! Great action and beautiful descriptions of shifters and love lost and found!
