When war threatens, hope will keep them aliveIn 1939, with the war having been declared, evacuees arrive in the small Welsh seaside town of St David’s Wells. When Eirlys Price convinces her parents to take in three young children, she never imagined it could lead to shocking family revelations which threaten all her future plans. Amidst homesickness, local gossip and the challenges of wartime, the community must pull together and wait until summer, when the town will come alive in all its seasonal glory…
Wait Till Summer is a classic wartime saga, filled with warmth, nostalgia and period detail, wonderful characters and finely-crafted plot. It is the first in the Holidays at Home series.

I’ve read several books set during the war which have all been really good but this one was a complete disappointment. The characters were weak and most seemed to have issues of some kind or other or were being dishonest in some form. The concept could have been well developed, emotional, educational and moving had it been centred around children being evacuated from London to this lovely little village, developing the key families, their lives and the impact of this and adventures had by all. The other thing that spoilt it for me were the very long chapters which helped make the book hard work to read, sorry. I won’t be reading any more by this author but that doesn’t mean others wouldn’t enjoy this book.
This could have been a much better book had not most of the characters in it were devious and double dealing people. The gist of the story could have signed but I had to keep remembering who was screwing who. It was pretty well written, just gross people. No I do not recommend this book.
I didn't enjoy it that much as I dislike how so many of the characters were having secret affairs with one another. The writing style is very easy to read and one thing that I did like is how the POV changes to different characters as you get to know them and as the story progresses. However, the ending seemed very abrupt and not thought out clearly.
Pleasant soap opera-style look at a small town in Wales on the verge of World War II. Lots of small-town shenanigans - adultery, secret love affairs, will-they-or-won't-they engagements, petty theft, etc. Tons of characters but a very easy read.
A well written story, telling of a life that it's now hard to imagine. With twists and turns, wanting you to read ' just one more chapter' . Thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.
I found this book refreshing as it is set in Wales at the beginning of world war two. It centers on the subjects of evacuation, secret love affairs and of course the marvellous setting of the beach and sea.
To begin with I found the story line hard to get into, a lot of characters I didn’t know who was related to who, as the story went on it was like I need to keep reading more to see what happens.
Interesting story! If you read it bare with it and then you’ll enjoy reading the book!
It took a bit of doing to sort out all the characters but by about halfway through I had it mostly sorted in a list on paper so that I could refer to who was who, after that was done I really got into the flow of the story and have now purchased the second book and look forward to enjoying that - but I am keeping my list so that I can still keep track of who is who. But yes I did enjoy the book. Worth working on.
