Love's Bounty

Rate this book
Life hasn’t been easy on young Callie Hobbs. After her father’s sudden death and her mother’s murder, there isn’t much left for her on the outskirts of Rawlins. Alone with a ranch to run, Callie could sell it all, cut her losses, and find a suitor in town.

But Callie knows only one thing will bring her peace: Seeing her mother’s killers hung. To find them, she turns to the most ruthless bounty hunter on this side of the country: Christian Mercy.

Distant and brooding, Christian Mercy is far from the ideal travel companion. But as their journey unfolds, Callie finds herself falling for those blue eyes that flicker with something deeper than she could have ever anticipated.

He wants redemption. She wants revenge. And as they close in on their targets, Callie and Chris bite back a fear worse than death. Could their love for one another douse the burning rage that keeps them going?

I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.

I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.

National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

Maaaaannnn- this one tanked! I loved how this book started off. It was intense and the heroine had a lot of hate in her heart, it made her fierce and bloodthirsty. The Hero was a jaded bounty hunter that was very violent and hard. I like age gaps, so the nearly 15 year age difference was a nice setup for the two characters to travel together and learn about their differences....SLOWLY.

It went off the rails when the Hero turned into a wimp who started to feel things for her heroine way too quickly. I can see the 18 yr old falling quickly, but a grown man who literally shoots people between the eyes when they threaten him should have a little more self respect! lol!

I love watching tough guys get brought down by innocents, but it has to be done correctly. People don't change overnight and I like to see the progression happen. In this case the hero lost his edge and became a beta too fast. I wanted him to hold the heroine at a distance up until the very last minute. He had a devastating past and it really should have made him angrier than he was.

I hadn’t read an oldddd school romance in a while and randomly picked this one from my shelves. It wasn’t the best thing I’ve read, but it was different my other recent reads and I had an enjoyable time. The hero was also refreshingly aware of consent for an older book, and the romance was slow burn enough to keep me interested.

What a wonderful story!! Each character encountered in this story was written so well and believable. The hero was at first understandably emotionally damaged from a tragic past and we got to see him recover and heal as he slowly fell in love with the heroine. He wasn't written as a big fat jerk either, even though he was suffering from a loss. I loved that as readers we could see the H and h slowly learn to respect and trust each other, then start to admire each other and then finally admit their love to each other. This was not insta-love at all, I would say that the I Love You admissions came out around 3/4 way thru, but once they said that and rejoiced.... it felt like the HEA was over and done with, I wish it had been done a little closer to the end of the story.

This was good. I was a little squeamish about the 14 year age gap between Callie and Christian (he's 32, she's 18), but it was handled much better in this book than I'm used to seeing -- for one thing, the fact came up, and it made both characters uncomfortable at first. They grew together gradually.

This story is about vengeance. Callie hires Christian to help her track down the 5 men she watched rape and murder her mother. Christian, meanwhile, has turned to the life of a bounty hunter in an attempt to somehow make up for the fact that he never could find the person who murdered his own wife and child. Each time he sees a man killed or hung for his crimes, he seeks that satisfaction that never comes.

I loved the history here, and the core message about revenge. I did feel the story dragged out in parts, and somehow the endinf fell flat, but it was a good read.

Rosanne Bittner's LOVE'S BOUNTY is an uplifting story on how tragedy and loss can turn into finding love and peace again. Christian Mercy and Callie Hobbs maybe be seeking justice for those who wronged Callie's mom, but seeking justice isn't all they will conquer. If you're needing a great love story to emerge yourself into, LOVE'S BOUNTY does not disappoint.

Another good Bittner HR with two interesting characters… a heroine, Callie who’s strong, innocent and gutsy, and a hero, Chris who’s determined to help her track down the men who raped and killed her mother. The numerous killings and physical violence at times overwhelmed the story … detracting from the romance, for me.

Life in the old west was harsh, brutal and often fatal. That was the lesson learned by Callie Hobbs as she hid, per her mother’s instructions, as five outlaws savagely brutalized and killed her only parent. They stole the stock and horses and rode away. Callie took measures to find and get justice for her mother. This is not only a tragic storyline, but also a way it was out west and often a bounty hunter was the only means to rid the areas of the worst of the worst. The travels to get justice were exciting and the journey was well written. It was tearful at times and in the end, Callie found she could now put this time in her life, to rest. She did all she could to get peace. Thanks to the author for a great story.

I did enjoy it, I was going back-and-forth between three and four stars. It was a little corny at times but I did give it the four stars because regardless I was in to the book and did not want to put it down. One thing you do learn about this author but I guess it’s because of the times, the man does own the women. She does have bits and pieces from all her other books that she scatters throughout the more recent books. Usually the terminology and sex acts are identical throughout her books. I did like this girl character a little better because she had more spunk but at the end she did bow down to “her man“.

Good book.

I loved the first half full of excitement and written really well. Then the book begans to repeat over and over the characters thoughts. I think it was great that the couple found love early on, but again too much repeat in their thoughts.
For the most part I enjoyed the book. I gave it 4 stars but actually to me it should be 3 1/2 stars. Miss Bittner can write but she seems to lose some momentum.
It’s still a good enough book that most historical western readers will enjoy. I just read a lot an get very picky.

Like, like, like......

It's so good to read a good love story with a great storyline where the characters are getting to know one another before the have sex! The characters had chemistry and had me laughing, it's a wonder why I prefer historical fiction rather than contemporary, this author has all the right stuff for a five-star read.

Stopped reading until he slept with that whore Lisa early on in the story, I don’t need an explicit and detailed scene of them rutting one another it’s disgusting. The fact he brought the whore in in front of Callie and she got hurt. I HATE IT SO MUCH!! My heart was too sensitive to continue readind this book. BOOO!!

Another great one from RB. This one was nice because there was a change of pace in which the highly educated one was the hero and the not as educated, the heroine. There was a bit of an age difference (she's 18, he's 32) which I saw some were turned off by but it just worked. First of all, we're not in present day and you have to realize teenagers didn't just marry other teenagers back then. Also, age had sooo little to do with it when you look at the big picture. Yes she definitely had some growing up to do but so did he. The main point was that out there "in the field" they became EQUALS. I loved every second of their journey. A definite must read for any western romance lover!

What a fun little story for Christian and Callie. I've re-read this several times as their journey captured my heart. While their relationship may have started out due to Callie's desire for revenge for her mom, Christian helps her to see revenge isn't always the answer. I enjoyed watching him fight his desire for her while yet drawing closer to her and seeing how well he protects his girl.

This was a great read. I enjoyed both characters--Christian and Callie. Although they came from different backgrounds, they shared the same pain. Callie was bold, courageous, and independent. Christian underneath his hardened exterior, kind and caring. The book was violent in many places, but something I didn't mind at all.
