Joanna Wayne began her professional writing career with the release of her first novel, DEEP IN THE BAYOU, in 1994, but Joanna will be the first to tell you that the wheels were set in motion years before. She started reading at four years of age, the same age that she began making weekly trips to the library to check out as many books as they’d let her have, only to finish reading them all before bedtime. That love of books never waned.
Joanna was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and was the middle child of a large family. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1984 when she married her current husband. New Orleans opened up a whole new realm of activities and she found the mix of cultures, music, history, food and sultry southern classics along with her love of reading a natural impetus for beginning her writing career. It was there that she attended her first writing class and joined her first professional writing organization. From that point on, there was no looking back.
Now, forty published books later, Joanna has made a name for herself as being on the cutting edge of romantic suspense in both series and mainstream novels. She is known for the suspense and emotion she brings to the page, as she takes ordinary people and thrusts them into life-and-death situations. She has been on the Walden Bestselling List for romance and won many industry awards. She is a popular speaker at writing organizations and local community functions and has taught creative writing at the University of New Orleans Metropolitan College.
She currently resides in a small community forty miles north of Houston, Texas with her husband. Though she still has many family and emotional ties to Louisiana, she loves living in the Lone Star state.
3.5 Read in a day...Suspense and mystery and creepy swamps. Revenge and cover ups. Sexual tension between main character and a strong willed female reporter. first time reading this author, but I always enjoy stories from Louisiana and glad I gave this one a try.
This was a convoluted murder mystery that was fascinating since at no point could I figure out where the storyline was going. Totally kept me guessing right up until the last chapter.
A dead anesthesiologist, a missing mom, a malpractice lawsuit, a disenfranchised lawyer, a semi-corrupt (or just stupid) cop, a cheating husband, a recently divorced reporter, 4 or 5 suspicious hospital workers and a chatty waitress in a small town.
Yup it sounds screwy but somehow it works...in addition to all that there is even some romance.
It is a very thrilling story about john who's brother died for some reason that was connected to a medical clinic and cassie's mother who had the same conection and was missing. Its great because they made the plot interesting by making the protagonist depend on each other to find the hidden secrets of the medical clinic which supposedly caused their loved ones death.
This was a decent mystery. I'm not usually a fan of the romance genre but this book was more mystery then love story. I picked it up on a whim at the local library and I'm glad I did. I will certainly be looking for other books by Joanna Wayne. Hoepfully her other novels will keep me guessing to the end like this one.
A very quick, fun summer-time read. What if you think your brother has been murdered, but the powers that be say it's suicide? What do you do if your mother disappeared? These are the two main themes that dominate this book that make for a good read that is billed as a novel of suspense and romance. Two main characters, Cassie Pierson and John Robicheaux. Yes, their paths cross and sparks fly . . . to be expected..
4/5 for this twisty, fun romantic suspense! This is one of those books where the author isn’t all that popular (although she does write a lot of cowboy romance with Harlequin) and this book had minimal reviews and no synopsis on Goodreads. I love little unknown treasures like this one!
This book was twisty as all hell. I loved that it was told in third person because we got so many different POVs and got to see characters from all different angles, which is one of my favorite things fiction books do in general. Also the unveiling of everything was bananas.
Since this book was a little grittier than expected, I think the main trigger warnings here are suicide and abortion. But overall this was so fun to read. The romance, the Cajun setting, the mystery. All of it was lovely!
I thought the book was quite predictable and ended rather abruptly, but kept my interest the entire time. Also, I love that it was set in SE LA, since the area is fairly familiar to me.
