Real name: Jo Ann Vest
Pseudonyms: Joanna Wayne.

Joanna Wayne began her professional writing career with the release of her first novel, DEEP IN THE BAYOU, in 1994, but Joanna will be the first to tell you that the wheels were set in motion years before. She started reading at four years of age, the same age that she began making weekly trips to the library to check out as many books as they’d let her have, only to finish reading them all before bedtime. That love of books never waned.

Joanna was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and was the middle child of a large family. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1984 when she married her current husband. New Orleans opened up a whole new realm of activities and she found the mix of cultures, music, history, food and sultry southern classics along with her love of reading a natural impetus for beginning her writing career. It was there that she attended her first writing class and joined her first professional writing organization. From that point on, there was no looking back.

Now, forty published books later, Joanna has made a name for herself as being on the cutting edge of romantic suspense in both series and mainstream novels. She is known for the suspense and emotion she brings to the page, as she takes ordinary people and thrusts them into life-and-death situations. She has been on the Walden Bestselling List for romance and won many industry awards. She is a popular speaker at writing organizations and local community functions and has taught creative writing at the University of New Orleans Metropolitan College.

She currently resides in a small community forty miles north of Houston, Texas with her husband. Though she still has many family and emotional ties to Louisiana, she loves living in the Lone Star state.

Fifteen years ago she testified against him in court. He was convicted of manslaughter and, thanks to his cousins' testimony, also of Mob connections. She gave birth to a child, never acknowledging his fatherhood, changed her identity and went into hiding.

Now, Vincent Magilinti is back. He escaped from prison in order to save his daughter from his treacherous cousin who's out on parole. Janice cannot believe he expects her to believe him after all the lies he told her in the past. Even the prison shrink claims he suffers from delusions since he never stopped professing his innocence. There's no way Janice will entrust her daughter's safety into the hands of her father, so she runs to New Orleans, the city where the met...And their daughter is kidnapped.
Maybe, just maybe Vincent is right. And Janice knows he's also the only one who can save their child.

She's right. Vincent will do anything in his power to protect his daughter and the woman who broke his heart, even if it means sacrificing his freedom...Or his life.

What a wonderful little gem of a romantic suspense this was. The pacing was wonderful, the characterization spot-on (I didn't even mind the heroine's pigheadedness, she truly believed Vincent was one of the bad guys), the suspense was chilling, and the intrigue kept me at the edge of my seat.

There was so much going on, so many secrets, half-truths, and lies, all intertwined with the past, that it was a true pleasure to read and a bit of disappointment when it ended. I did think the ending a bit rushed, but the epilogue offered just enough information to bring the story full-circle and toward a very happy ending.

Highly recommended by this very satisfied reader.

Truth Love Money.

5 gold stars. A gripping story of revenge and and greed for money and of love that never stopped growing. This story will put you in the middle of a story that never stopped after the murders took place 15 years ago, only know the stakes are much much higher with the lives of 3 people in the balance. Janice Stevens has a secret. She's really Candy Owens, ex-girlfriend of the son of an infamous Mob boss, and witness to a bloody massacre. Sixteen years ago she testified against her lover after his father and several business associates were slain during a deal gone bad. After the trial and a subsequent attempt on her life, she faked her death and fled with daughter Kelly and created a new identity.

Vincent broke out of prison after finding out that his ex-fiancée and teenager daughter are still alive, and that their lives are in danger. Now he wants to protect his daughter, despite his conflicting feelings for the woman he feels betrayed him. But can he evade both the police and the cousin who is out for blood, as well as forge a relationship with the daughter who never knew him - and rekindle the love that he and Candy both believed lost?

I found this to be a reasonable tale from Joanna Wayne - not excellent, but not bad. As with many of the author's stories, I enjoyed the setting (New Orleans) and the suspense, and found the romance a bit lukewarm. Vincent is an interesting character, and the potential for great depth in his relationships was there, but never fully realised. Kelly's absence for most of the book meant that the author missed the opportunity to develop the father-daughter relationship past the superficial level, which I found a real shame. Vincent's relationship with the law-breaking father that he both loved and disapproved of could also have added depth to the story, but it was only touched upon lightly. And the complexity of the love between Vincent and Janice / Candy - his resentment for what he saw as her betrayal of him; her fear and distrust of a man she believed was a criminal - suddenly jumps into happy happy all-will-be-well territory.

Overall, I found this one something of a disappointment - not because it was awful (it wasn't), but because the potential was there for so much more. 3 stars.

This book i kept trying to figure out at first who was telling the truth. At one point, I even suspected US Marshall Ken may have been dirty and flip flopping between if her mom stole the money or not.
