Brock Sinclair retired from the military living a solitary life, moved to Fairfield looking for his estranged daughter. It was an uphill battle since his daughter had never been told about her father. Jean Roberts was a widow not looking for another love, satisfied in her career and good friends. When they meet, neither can resist the sparks between them. When an arsonist threatens the town and Jean, Brock will fight to save her. Along the way, both discover that love the second time around is just as sweet. This novella contains the characters that the reader will find in the rest of the Fairfield Series books. It was written to continue the tale of two of the secondary characters that many reader begged for their story to be told.
Due to language and sexual situations, it is for 18+ only readers who are not offended by such material.
As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
A good addition to this series and it's the last book. Some of the scenes here happened in between books 1 and 2.
The story was about Brock, 45 and Jean. Her age was not mentioned in this book but as far as I can remember when I read book 2, her age was 40.
Brock's retired from military. His parents and younger sister all passed away. He had never married and his soldier buddies were his only family until one day, Rob (book 2 H) came to see him and told him he has a daughter, Laurie (book 2 h) and she's sick. Laurie needed a family medical history that's why Rob looked for him.
He came to Fairfield to meet and help his daughter. Laurie was mad because Rob went behind her back so she stayed with her friend, Jean.
Jean's a school social worker where Laurie was working too. They became fast friends. And since Laurie was staying with her, Brock came to her home and that's how they met.
She was married but her husband, Rick was killed on a job site 15 years ago.
Brock asked her out and she agreed but they decided to talk to Laurie first about it. They didn't have to worry because Laurie was happy for them.
Both of them loved once before and they were taken away from them. It was a long time ago they understand and accepted each other's past. and they found love with each other.
There's an epilogue too. It's almost the same as book 2's epilogue though but I still enjoyed it. They had their HEA.
This was a short little novella about Brock, Laurie's dad, and Jean, Laurie's older coworker. This was cute and to the point and still managed to have some drama, which I liked.
It definitely had some plot holes since Brock and Jean were supposed to be involved in much of Laurie's life, but Carol's Image didn't feature Brock and Jean at all. I wish their story was better explained in the other books, but I think this was just an afterthought for the fans.
This is the first book I've read in this Fairfields series and one I'm reading for a reading challenge but I wasn't thrilled at this novella.
In this book, Blake finds out he has a daughter he never knew about. In getting to know his daughter, he meets Jean and they start up a relationship. Other things happen and we get to know the other residents of Fairfield. This is definitely a book where my enjoyment would have been heightened if I had read the rest of the series and got introduced to the side characters gradually but I think it fits pretty well as a standalone.
However, this book did not impress me and I'm not inclined to read the rest of the series. There are far too many plot points slotted into this very short novel and they all suffer for it. Blake meeting his long lost daughter was the first plot point of the book and I was intrigued as Blake wanted to get to know his daughter and they dealt with Laurie's illness (the reason why Blake was found in the first place was to get a medical history), but that plot point fell to the wayside after Blake and Jean's relationship took off. And then that plot point fell to the wayside after the arsonist comes up. I liked the arsonist plot point but it showed up at about 70% of the book and then got resolved within about twenty to thirty pages, which was far too fast for me. I wasn't sold on Blake and Jean's relationship from the first place (their first argument was over Jean mowing her own lawn and she apologised to him for it?) and the small amount of time spent on it didn't help matters at all.
I was glad this was a short book but I think it should have focused on the Blake + Laurie reconciliation as a main plot, with the romance between Blake and Jean as a major subplot, rather than try and fit in another major plot point at the same time.
Last book but there is a new series love series that the two teenagers brad and susy is in and shane from this series. Poor broke but he had a wonderful career in the military and just when he felt very alone in his retirement discovered he had a daughter and a love interest in the same small town.(plus a side step in his early retirement to be a firefighter) At least this book caught up with first book, it does start when Rob visits him but moved forward a little faster. I enjoyed this series but found it a little complexed when it did not need to be with the order of storys, I did enjoy Emma's journey the best but I did feel Carol should of been first, with the time going back we missed out on the four women being in the books more, making it more about the Fairfield men. I do like this author and have read most her work, it's always warm hearted with a good storyline often outside the box to others, I am not a fan of the POV delivery. But her journey is always a good read. LSI is my favourite and Saints.her security series are the best.
Fireworks Over Fairfield is a fairly quick contemporary romance by Maryann Jordan. Ms. Jordan has provided readers with a well-written book loaded with phenomenal characters. Brock retired from the military and spends his time training the troops. When he learns he has a daughter and she's sick, he packs up to meet her. Jean is one of Brock's daughter Laurie's friends that steps in and helps when Laurie is sick. Jean and Brock's story is full of drama, humor, action, suspense and spice. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by Maryann Jordan. Fireworks Over Fairfield is book 3.5 in the Fairfield Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a great story about older adults finding a second chance at love
I can't imagine what it would be like to find out you have a twenty five year old daughter from someone you fell in love with in just one night. And then to be told that she died believing she was just a one night stand? He never forgot her and now in addition to getting to know your daughter, you are also grieving her mom's death. Then you meet her older friend and co-worker, Jean, who you have an immediate attraction to. Will Jean finally find someone to help her move on from her husband's death fifteen years ago? Can she help Brock navigate his grief and help him get to know his daughter? Will he decide to move to Fairfield permanently?
Brock Sinclair and Jean Roberts, what an ending to this series.
I loved this book so much and I think because it was and older couple with a second chance at love after one of them lost their first love to death and the other lost their first love by default of not being in the same geographical location for longer than their encounter lasted.
There are so many thing I could say about this book but my mind is simply blank with everything except that Brock is swoon worthy and Jean is a very lucky woman.
This book is amazing and Maryann was right by giving Brock and Jean their own book. And it's also a book that older ladies will truly get all the feelings.
Brook Sinclair is Laurie Dodd's father and he comes to Fairfield at her boyfriend's request. She doesn't know he is there until she reads and email from him on Rob's computer.
He catches up with Laurie and quickly becomes entrenched into the town. He also finds a new job and a new love, never haven forgotten Laurie's mom. But he is ready to move on and he finds love with Laurie's co-worker Jean Roberts. She is a widow and after 15 years of being alone she finds that Brook stirs emotions in her she thought long dead.
When Jean is in trouble because of his actions he comes to realize just how much she means to him. It was a fast read with a sweet ending.
4 stars I purchased a copy of the the novel Fireworks Over Fairfield: The Fairfield Series book 3.5:Small Town Detectives by Maryann Jordan and this review was given freely. A second chance at love romance with some family and firehouse drama. A steamy emotion packed novella from retired volunteer Army instructor Brock's view starting from the point where he learns of his 24 year old daughter Laurie who is being diagnosed with Lupus continuing with his change of career to fireman and the arrival of Laurie's Aunt Emma and then his romance with Laurie's school social worker friend Jean. An 18+ novella and best if read after Laurie's Time but before Emma's House.
What a way to end this series. It brought so many lives and loves to a happy intertwined family and happiness. Jean had tragically lost young love and hope just at the beginning if future. Brock lost his first love by a fateful unfortunate moment. He missed out on the most important part of what he could of experienced had he only known. Thanks to Rob, Laurie was reunited with Brock whom she did not know existed. As a result Jean and Brock were brought together by fate and finally had the love, family and devotion they had missed out on in their lives
Brock and Jean's story. Brock was shocked to learn he had a 25 year old daughter. But was determined to be in her life. Meeting her older friend Jean he has felt attraction like that in years. Maybe he life was about to change for the better.
The is Laurie's Dad, Brock and her friend from school Jean's story. It's told from the POV of both characters, and it's lovely how all the previous characters are in the book. Glad the fire department finally caught the arsonist too. Great novella to finish the series.
I was excited to read this little sequel about Brock and Jean. However, the first 40% seemed to pretty much have been copy and pasted from Lauries' story. I understand that there will be some overlap since we already met these characters and watched some of their relationship develop, but this was just too much. It even included Laurie's thoughts about how Emma would be perfect for Jake, which really had no impact on this story at all. This is a novella so events were pretty glossed over, but I expected that. The scene about mowing the lawn really got on my nerves though. I understand that EVERY hero this author writes is super overprotective, but I'm still unclear about why he was upset that she was mowing the lawn (of her own house!) by herself...as she had done for the last decade. I also wanted more from the epilogue, I was hoping that it would focus more on Brock and Jean than on Laurie.
This book begins just before book 3 (Emma's Home) which confusingly is labelled as book 1!) and continues Laurie's story, but better than this is the second chance at love for both Brock and Jean. Their story begins tentatively, both have experienced loss and so are wary. But love cannot be denied and a sweet love soon becomes steamy and passionate. I loved Brock and whilst he didn't know about Laurie, he is determined he wants to be a part of her life going forward, it makes my heart melt. Jean may be quiet but she is any thing but meek, she is the perfect match for Brock. The Fairfield Series is one everyone should read.
It had been awhile since I'd read the three books in the Fairfield series, but this was an enjoyable short read, that while it could be a standalone, is much more enjoyable having read the previous books in the series. It has inspired me to back and re-read the others.
Really good set of stories, really well written. Nicely interlinked with strong characters and believable storylines, as with all of this writer's books. Thought this one was a little short but it did round off the series nicely. I assume this is the last one.....?
I'm so glad to be able to finally get to read about Brock and Jean. Now we just need one more that's in the future where the couple's have children and maybe even Brock and Jean. Ohhhhhh, that would be a great ending to a wonderful series.
