Kate makes a chain of drastic decisions in an attempt to gain control of her life. This doesn’t stop with her look, or even her name. She decides to let a mysterious stranger turn her into a vampire, and their complicated history with one another is slowly revealed as layer by layer of this dark fantasy unfolds. The self-professed “King of all the Dark and Scary Things” wants her for himself, and he isn’t about to let her go without a fight.
I'm an avid reader of anything Paranormal Romance (I especially love vampires). I'm the author of my own Paranormal Romance Series: Marked which is published on amazon and available in Barnes and Noble. I'm married to my high school sweetheart, and we have two sons and a daughter. I drink way too much sweet tea, mostly when I'm staying up all night writing down the scenes in my mind.
Some of my favorite authors are: Anne Rice (of course), Laurell K. Hamilton, H.P. Mallory, Annie Nicholas, Christine Feehan, and Christine Warren..

MARKED is the first book in a series. Kate wrestles with her unhappiness in the life she merely exists in. Desperation to find relief from her overwhelming unhappiness leads her to a face to face meeting with a man she's only ever seen in her dreams. What she doesn't know is how deep a connection her and her dream man share, and what complications will arise if she agrees to take the chance of freedom he offers.
It wasn't easy for me to rate MARKED. I actually liked the story and felt it had huge potential. I love vampire books! In this book you get mysterious vampires, guardian angels, demons and curses, an epic love that endured through the journey of multiple past life's over centuries of time. Sounds pretty amazing right?
As I said, I liked the story and the only reason I rated this book with three stars instead of more was because, for me, the really good stuff didn't start happening till half way through the book. The first half was a strong "meh" and felt monotone. I was still waiting for some good ole suspense to kick in and have me swiping pages as fast as my fingers would allow. The oh-yeah-this-is-starting-to-hook-me-in! parts didn't start happening till the last 100 pages. That said, those last hundred pages have me excited to start back into the story. If the story picks back up with the intensity it left off with then I'm really looking forward to it!
MARKED is a good immortal story, with interesting characters (that I hope we will get a more in depth look at).
A.N. Meade has created a dark suspense-filled vampire story with her novel Marked. There are certainly no vampires that glitter in the sun here! The main character, Kate (who later changes her name to Aimee) is not your typical light hearted heroine. She has her demons at first figuratively and then by the end of the novel also quite literally. The story begins with her painful transformation to vampire after a lost love, Marc, finds her and turns her after searching for centuries. She finally finds the love she’s been unknowingly missing only to find out that there is much more to her and Marc’s past than she initially realized. This is a very interesting read filled with vivid description and dark fantastical elements. This is the first in the series and I look forward to reading more about Aimee and her immortal journey.
This book was better than most vampire books that I have read. Continuing with soul mates didn't seem to be too original to me, but I thought that the characters were interesting and that is what makes me like this book even more.Giving the fact that the heroine isn't "perfect" like In most books gave this story an original feel.
Marked is a paranormal romance, not something that I’d normally read as I prefer the paranormal action thrillers, but this is certainly worth a read, especially if you are into the romance aspect.
It tells the story of Kate and Marc, who have been connected through the ages, but finally realize their love when Marc, a vampire, turns Kate at her request. Introducing reincarnation and soul mates into a vampire romance is certainly something that I haven’t come across before, with the exception of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
However, this is where I do stumble a little with the book. While this played a large part in the overall plot of Marc and Kate, I didn’t feel that enough time was spent on the past lives, especially Kate’s. This led to me to question why she would have been so willing to turn.
The story also started off fairly slowly, which I believe is due to the process of Kate being turned and settling in to being a vampire, but this could have easily turned me off the book. I did stick with it, because this was a review copy, and I am pleased that I did as I ended up enjoying the book, but I would be concerned if a non-reviewer picked it up who wasn’t willing to bear with it.
As a fellow author, I could be picky about some of the proofing, but this was generally a hell of a lot better than some of the other independently published books that I have read.
For all the above points, I award a four star rating as it was better than a three, but I only award a five star to a book of pure excellence. I recommend this book to any paranormal romance reader.
I received a free copy of the book for my honest, non-reciprocal review.
I was given this book for an honest review. Not the usual vampire drama. The main character isn't the perfect woman and has her own personal issues to start with. I love how she was taken out of her world and into her new world. Good story progression. Great characters. Written with passion; not too hard core though and not too sticky sweet either. Hard to say much without giving things away. Now on to read the second book!!
I was gibeing the book for an honest review. It was a very interesting read. I love the ideal of soul mates. My heart went out to Marc. He waited a long time for the love of his like. There are some suprises in the book. I can't wait to read more of this series.

I have some mixed feelings about this book. While I do think vampires are over-used in popular culture, I also thought that this book had a blurb that sounded quite intriguing... especially because it also seemed to involve reincarnation.
I felt that there wasn't very much of the storyline explained. While that worked really well for Aimee's past lives, I didn't feel that it worked for her present life. I found myself thrown into a confusing life that seemed to have ended in disaster that I had no idea of the cause of. I felt that the romantic connection between Marc and Aimee didn't feel realistic... and I kept having it hit over my head that they'd had all these conversations in the past of her current life; but there was very little character development shown.
While there was enough dread threaded through the storyline in regards to Damian... I did find myself questioning why Marc was willing to take Aimee into such a dangerous situation. His reasoning really didn't read as very good in regards to that.
I was completely confused by Enric's and Natasha's roles in this book. While there were some hints about Enric's past, I didn't feel that his connection to Aimee was shown or developed. It was just 'mystical'... and therefore unbelievable, even in the supernatural world of this book.
I did think that the way the vampires were created (at least with the maze and the book of the dead) was really intriguing, but I felt that Aimee didn't ask any questions. She showed no sign of curiosity and I didn't feel like she had much spirit. In my opinion, she was a very passive character... and I found her really hard to connect to emotionally.
I would have liked to see more of Aimee's background before she was turned into a vampire. I found myself confused about what her past had been like with her parents... while her marriage had clearly been bad, the references to her family life were very contradictory.
Although I do have the next book/s on my Kindle, I probably wouldn't have purchased them. The book is a bit disappointing and I do think it could be expanded on.
Kate's life is filled with pain and suffering yet knows she can have a better life with Marc. Marc Trudeau has been waiting for his love to return to him. He never thought he'd find her again yet here she is. Marc is waiting for Kate's transformation to be complete. She needs closure from her past before moving forward with her life. A fresh start for Kate means new name Aimee. A trip of a lifetime was meant to be cherished by both Aimee and Marc but only ends up in disaster for them. Marc's creator Damian is cruel, evil, and selfish. Damian calls Marc a fool for love because it doesn't really exist. Damian sets his sights on Aimee but Marc doesn't know why. Why does Damian want Aimee? Can Marc and Aimee find peace? Your answers await you in Marked.
This new to me author has intrigued me with their storytelling skills. The characters are flawed, honest, real, compelling, raw, and rich. The story moves from the past to the present easily. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
*A complimentary ecopy was given, in exchange for my honest review. * Honesty is the best policy. So, here I go. I really had high hopes for this book. At 15%, I couldn't go on any further. I could not connect with the Main Character, no matter how hard I tried, and wanted to. My biggest concern was the Main Character's love interest, umm, he kept repeating the same thing over, just in different ways. It really bothered me for some reason. When the Main Character's First Feeding happened, I just couldn't help but think I've read the same words she described of how the blood tasted, warm and metallic , in EVERY other vampire novel I've EVER read. I guess, I just wanted something different, something to keep me interested in the vampire genre. To each their own. This just wasn't meant to be mine, I guess.
This was an OK read. Some of the early scenes felt very familiar like I had read something very similar or seen it on TV. But the story developed better the further along I got. The more I read of Kate's past the more I got into the story. The rest of the series holds great potential in being suspense filled. The characters are established now and I'm looking forward to seeing how the little group works together to free Kate of Damian.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review so I'm not sure if I got an uncorrected proof or if this is the finished product. It is noticeably in need of formatting and proofreading.
Marked shows us the deep romance between Aimee and Marc. Both are well-formed consistent characters. The relationship between them is interesting, and you really feel the fear the 'bad guy' strikes in them.
The book has an intriguing plot, with some surprising back story along the way. However, the book does start quite slowly, and I was surprised at how quickly things were tied up at the end.
Some parts are overdone, with the author explaining how the characters are feeling when it's already obvious.
DNF, wow sad to say this is a weird book. We just jump into characters from the start without any background or anything. It's like the middle of a story except it's the beginning. I even went back to the beginning thinking I must have skipped a prologue or some insight into these characters, but no nothing! This just made me feel lost and confused and that's not how I want to start a series. I was given this for an honest review and I honestly can't waste my time reading this. :(
