City Lights Series #3.5

Endless Possibility

Rate this book
After the disastrous Planet X party, Noah Lake knows he must learn to cope with his anger and bitterness, to learn to live as he is and not as he had been. He sets out on an impossible journey, alone, in the hopes of making himself worthy of Charlotte's love, and to slay the demons of an old life that is lost to him.

As he makes his arduous way across Europe, following Charlotte's tour, Noah writes of his experiences that will become his memoir, and it is only after reading his words that Charlotte comes to fully understand the hardships Noah endured for their sake; a journey that nearly broke him in mind, body, and spirit. She knows what she must do: show Noah that while she is the light in his darkness, he is the music in her heart and that without him, she'd be just as lost.

Endless Possibility is the final chapter in a love story about acceptance, peace, and the bond between two souls who have found their equal in each other, and the happily ever after they both deserve.

Endless Possibilities is a companion novella to Rush. If you haven’t read Rush, I’m going to recommend that you do that right away! It’s Noah and Charlotte’s heartwarming, beautiful and healing story. There were parts in Rush towards the end, where you get all of Charlotte’s pov and have to wonder, what was going through Noah’s head during this time? Well, we have our answer now. This novella is primarily that time told from Noah’s POV via his memoir.

Noah is such a strong character. In Rush, I always saw Charlotte as so strong (and she is) but seeing this part of the story through Noah’s eyes, I found a strength in him I didn’t know was there. The kind of determination he had for the one he loved was breathtaking. His story of his time in Europe will make you smile, make you cry, and give you a whole different kind of respect for the man.

Noah and Charlotte are one of my favorite literary couples. The epilogue at the end of this made my heart so happy. Emma Scott’s writing is nothing short of magnificent. She is truly a wordsmith. If you haven’t read about this couple, pick up these two books asap! You don’t know what you’re missing out on!

I don’t know about you but I just love, love, love, a good novella after a happily ever after book. This book is the novella for RUSH and I recommend to read that one first.

At the end of Rush, Noah and Charlotte end up together in Europe, I can’t remember which city at the moment but that’s okay. What we didn’t find out was what Noah had been up to after Charlotte heads out on tour. He sets a challenge for himself, travel throughout Europe without any assistance. Of course our dear, sweet Lucien was going to force a bit of help where he could, even if Noah didn’t want any of it.
“Aren’t you always telling me that the best thing is rarely easiest?”

“I have been known to use that phrase from time to time.”

“Well, this isn’t easy. It’s the hardest fucking thing I’ve ever done, so it has to be right.”

Noah is so damn stubborn but I still love him. It’s that stubbornness that was preventing him of letting go of his previous life, when he could see and learning how to live as a blind man.
You want to learn how to live blind? Then fucking learn, snowflake. This is no other way.

Except that wasn’t what I wanted. I didn’t want to learn to function blind. I didn’t want to be blind at all.

“I don’t want to be blind,” I said aloud.

Fuck… I really felt for him, like a lot. He broke my heart.

Yet, Noah still finds a way to get out there, to try, to learn, to grow, to be what he believes Charlotte deserves.

It wasn’t an easy task and he faced so many challenges. Sometimes I had to put my Kindle down and just drop a tear or two because he broke my heart. Think about it… You’re blind, you’re in a different city or country ever 2-3 days and you getting there by airplanes, trains and/or buses. I’ve been to many countries and I have trouble navigating and the idea of doing any of that blind is crazy scary. But Noah did it, he fucking did it!

Noah once traveled the world without such difficulties and now to him, he was reduced to half a man and it took a toll on him internally.
Words that had never, in my past life, been used to describe me hung over me every day. Helpless. Slow. Hesitant. Lost.

Side note: Get some tissues ready for the epilogue because it was so touching. I cried some happy tears folks.

Oh Noah, I didn't think it was possible to love you more, but the depths are endless!

I read this right on the heels of finishing "Rush" and I positively loved it. This is Noah's POV of the events which happened in book one, and he answers an important question as to why he packed his bags and left the love of his life. The decision was painful for him to make and was also selfless, thinking only of what is best for Charlotte. As you read his account of the harrowing journey he went on, the ramifications of his decisions are heartbreaking and breathtaking. I am so happy to have picked up this amazing must read companion to "Rush."

**CAUTION! Do not read this one until you have finished "Rush"**

Charlotte and Noah return, and boy what a return it was, Endless Possibility made me hopelessly happy.

I am always a little leery when an author offers up a novella in relation to a book that they have previously released. Sometimes it ‘adds value’ to the overall story that has already been told, but more often than not I just find them a pleasant catch-up with characters I have some fond memories of, more than actually offering anything new or unique to the already told story. I think you can tell by my rating that Emma Scott exceeded my expectations with Endless Possibility and then some.

I had a lump in my throat, and my heart in my mouth for most of this novella, I fell hard for Noah in Rush, and the journey that Emma took him on across Europe in Endless Possibility, to essentially work out for himself how he now fits in with the world at large, in the realms of living as a blind man, and to then accept himself as being someone worthy of the love that Charlotte had for him… Well it was just beautiful to read. Pure escapism, you know the type of book, it grips onto you, and keeps your heart in its hold and your emotions on the roll until the end.

Take it. Hold on. And never let go.

You need to have read Rush to just understand how outstanding this novella is. Emma Scott didn’t just jump on the ‘let’s make some more money' band wagon with this one, it fills in an area of Rush that played an integral part in getting Noah and Charlotte to the place that the perfect and lip wobbling epilogue in Endless Possibility provides.

What more can I say.

You won’t regret it, then spend some more time with Noah and Charlotte and see how their adventure concludes in Endless Possibility. Emma Scott is one of my author discoveries this year, and I cannot wait to see what remarkable stories she has in store for her readers going forward.

I think I had filled my quota for tears (it's really small tbh, I'm surprised they appeared at all in the first book.) But the pain I felt for Noah? It's still there. This book further intensifies my feelings for this character. He was determined, unforgiving to himself yet at the same time accepting and forgiving towards his loss. I loved his journey through Europe, through every city and before I read this, I didn't even realize how, even simple things like identifying your luggage, can get painfully difficult for blind people. This book sort of breaks you down and humbles you. I never realized the privileges I have with my eyes before I read this.

And you know what? I loved every part of this book, every part of him. In the first one, we saw Charlotte's sacrifices, hardships and growth but in this one we get to see Noah's. I love these two characters so much, it's impossible to love them more tbh.

PS: I love how the cover of the first one is in black(mostly) and white and this one has same graphics BUT in color (and it kind of looks like dawn, the sun rising and all) and that's like symbolic of how they fought the darkness in their life to finally have their own beginning.

~~RUSH, book 3 of the City Lights series, should be read first. All the books in the series are otherwise standalones~~

This short, but powerful memoir told in Noah's POV, was gripping and heartbreaking. It wasn't tragic in the sense of a bad ending, on the contrary, it was beautiful. It was tragic that Noah had to endure so much to finally reclaim what he thought he'd lost...himself.

Told during the period between him leaving Charlotte and her subsequent European tour with her symphony, this novella hashes out all the hurt, turmoil, confusion, angst and self derision Noah underwent in trying to accept his disability.
There were several scenes that had me tearing up. Some of the experiences Noah had made me angry at people that see blindness as an excuse to disrespect or swindle a person. Other times, Noah seemed to shine as he slowly emerged from years of self hatred and pity.

The scenes where he fought tooth and nail to stay focused, to stay dedicated to his promise to Charlotte, despite all the hurdles he faced, were heartbreaking.
What I loved about this though, aside from the lovely and original plot line, was how raw and effortless this was written. You felt the anguish, the pain, the stench of failure. But the joy, happiness, success and sense of accomplishment was just as affecting. I think this was a necessary addition to the wonderful story of Noah and Charlotte. This novella fills in that gap of darkness we all wondered about while reading RUSH. I loved that book and highly recommend reading it with this accompanying novella.

Endless Possibility is the companion to Rush and must be read after Rush, it is not a standalone. It's pretty much Noah's journey back to Charlotte. Mostly in Noah's POV, it's amazing and a must read if you loved Rush. I devoured this and Rush back in August. I love this couple so much. This was amazing!

“I had to keep moving. Always. To her. She was at the end of a long, dark road where I was going to be beset with impossible obstacles, and maybe even danger, but I had to make that journey. I had to do everything possible for Charlotte. Everything and anything.”

“Because the idea of failure, of living without her in my life, was a nightmare worse than blindness”

“We’d started with a maybe, and that maybe turned into a miracle.”

"This journey was going to break me down in every way, and I’d either arise from it victorious, or it would destroy me..."

That's was pretty much how I felt reading the follow-up novella to Emma Scott's Rush: my heart ached and it sang. I'm such a picky bugger when it comes to novellas but Scott has paced this perfectly, taking us back to when Noah faces his blindness head-on and travels to Europe, bringing closure and real value to his and Charlotte's love-story overall.

Holy moly!! I adored RUSH, it went straight on my 2016 favourite reads shelf but THIS book blew my freaking mind. I am not a novella fan but Endless Possibility is beyond perfection. Now I get why people were pushing me to read Emma Scott's work and now I'm addicted.

This novella takes you back a short while to their separation in Rush when Noah realises he has to moved forward not only for himself but mostly for Charlotte. And oh my god, what he went through - I can't even begin to imagine being that brave. And this is where Emma Scott EXCELS. I felt his unadulterated fear, his pain, his strength. Her writing is beyond amazing and sucked me in. At times I felt myself at those crowded airports and streets trying to imagine doing it all without my sight. It gave me chills.

Hands down the best novella I have ever read and 10 stars aren't enough for this one.

This novella was just PERFECT!!!
This is Noah's incredible difficult journey to self discovery, self acceptable, and just learning how to live being blind, not denying or hiding from it any longer.
I fell even more in love with this amazing and courageous man!
A beautiful ending to Charlotte and Noah's story.

The most tantalizing thread Emma Scott left unlooped in RUSH: New York City was how Noah had followed Charlotte across Europe, not only affirming his love for her but gaining back the precious independence he lost in the accident that claimed his sight. I always felt this journey (literal and symbolic) was worthy of its own book and now Scott has given it to us in Endless Possibility.

A short prologue aside, Scott keeps the narrative from Noah’s viewpoint, and then proceeds to write blindfolded. As she must for conveying the epic feat of a man coming to grips with losing his sight. The despair and frustration are palpable. This is a proud man who has always stood alone and built a career of driving the physical limits of his body. Now with his visual cues removed, alone in the dark in strange cities, he must learn to accept assistance while struggling to gain his independence. It’s not rising from the rock bottom incidents that make Noah’s finest moments. Rather it’s when he allows himself to be helped. And in doing so, finally allows himself to be loved.

Scott puts her hand over the reader’s eyes and makes them hear the story. She has the knack of using simple language to tell complex things. She’s not afraid to dig deep into a fragile moment, and then dig a little deeper where others might pull back. She holds back nothing, which lets the readers feel it all. This is the hallmark of a supremely talented storyteller.

If you were hesitant to read this because it's a follow-up novella in an alternate pov, don't be! This is probably the best novella I've ever read. And the epilogue...Ah.Ma.Zing!!!

"I can't see the ending Charlotte. What is it going to be?"

Who knew writing a review for a novella could be so difficult? But here I sit, days after finishing Endless Possibility, trying to put into words (through the tears mind you!) how achingly beautiful this story is. I don't think I have the words to do it justice.

Noah Lake completely and utterly stole my heart in RUSH: New York City, the first book I had the pleasure of reading by Emma Scott, the first book where we meet Charlotte and Noah. I had no idea how captivated I would be by it, and I didn't want it to end...I wasn't ready to leave these 2 remarkable characters behind. So when I saw that Emma was writing Noah's "memoir" I was beyond excited, especially since we were going to get to see everything he went through in the weeks he was separated from Charlotte. And oh what weeks those were. My heart broke, repeatedly, as Noah was determined to learn to navigate on his own and make his way back to Charlotte. Nothing was easy for him, he was broken and at times throroughly frustrated, but he was relentless in proving to himself, to Charlotte, to everyone, that he could do this...that he could stand on his own and make his way in the world as a blind man. Someone that would be worthy of the love Charlotte gave him.

"It was my trial by fire. I don't need to tell you how badly it burned. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you know you're worth it. I'd do it again a hundred times over if I had to. For you."

So much heart and emotion was packed into this story, there wasn't a moment that didn't elicit some sort of response- a laugh, a tear, (many tears), a sigh, a gasp, a swoon. I'm so in awe of authors who are able to take 26 letters and combine them in such a way to make us feel so many things, and Emma Scott does it brilliantly with this book. Endless Possibility is the flawless and enthralling conclusion to Noah and Charlotte's story, I couldn't have asked for more.

***Posted my review originally on the paperback edition, but it didn't transfer to the Kindle, so I'm posting it on here as well!

Another amazing book in the (city lights series).
Couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to charlotte and Noah's story who's story started in "rush" (city lights book 3)
"endless possibility" we find out what happened to Noah when he left Charlotte right before her Europe tour.
This book focuses on what Noah went through, his struggles while following Charlotte. My heart ache for him, he wanted to be independent, to be his old self again while trying to accept his blindness. He was brave even in his moments of weakness, of doubts. But his constant love for Charlotte was his biggest motivation!! Their love definitely was full of hardships but I'm glad to finally see their happiness.
Emma Scott is such an amazing writer, she creates these fantastic characters in the greatest of love stories. Have loved all her books and hope to read many more.

This book was such a beautiful gift. The perfect ending to Rush. I love Noah...with all my heart, I love Noah. Did you not hear me? Let me scream it from the rooftops!! I LOVE NOAH. Such a beautiful complex man...brooding, lonely and bitter to start. But through all of it, through his journey to find himself, he had was always bright, brave, self-deprecating, sarcastic, foul-mouthed.

Thank you for this gift to us, Emma Scott. Thank you for Noah...and in his words "I felt how I feel when opening a brand new book. Do you know how that is? description

Beautifully written and deeply romantic, Endless Possibility is Noah's missing chapters from Rush (City of Lights, #3). The novella that has the pages after the terrible truth assaulted Noah, but before it turned into a lie—that as long as his heart and mind held the darkness his eyes see, he would never be the man Charlotte deserved to love in life.
“It was my trial by fire. I don’t need to tell you how badly it burned. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you know you’re worth it. I’d do it again a hundred times over if I had to. For you.”

Heartbroken but determined, in Rush Noah set both himself and Charlotte free, for a while—because as the saying goes: "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's meant to be".

And Noah and Charlotte...they were meant to be.
It just took them both time—to fly, to fall, to shed their feathers, break their wings, to heal, and then to mend, to be whole and together again.

Beginning with Charlotte opening the book of Noah's unfinished memoir, in Endless Possibility, we read along with her as Noah's written words tell his treacherous tale of traveling across Europe blind, and in search of Charlotte.

All the horrors he endured, the blood he shed, the tears he cried, the panic he embraced...and yet, no matter where Noah was—mentally, physically, emotionally—he always found his way back to his endless possibility, to Charlotte. She was in his every breath, in every beat of his heart, in every blink of his blind eyes.
We’d both been smashed up by life and rearranged until neither of us knew ourselves. But somehow we’d found each other, helped each other put our broken pieces back together to make something new and whole.

It was his love her her that gave him the strength to piece himself together after life had shattered him into bits of who he once was. It was her love for him that gave him the determination to let go of his past, to embrace his future, to lose control, to gain independence, to find himself in the darkest days of his journey.

Needless to say, Emma Scott—

Blew.

Me

Away.

with this novella.

—Poof, I was gone; lost in Noah's story.

Because this novella was so much more than just a novella. It was tears, laughs, smiles, sighs. It was pain and love and hate and hope and endless possibilities...
In my dark world, there was softness, heat, broken cries and gasps, and her skin, her hands, her mouth, and the sweet tightness of her body, and the pleasure and love that bound us together, all of it rising to a crescendo and then melting into something gentle and deep.

Endless Possibility, a Memoir (City Lights, #3.5) is the utterly romantic tale of a mentally, physically, and emotional broken man—whose never-ending love endures heartache, as he relentlessly battles his demons with clenched teeth and wide, unseeing eyes.
“You showed me I could walk the earth alone, in the dark, but I don’t want to. I want you by my side, now and forever.”

Overall, if you've read Rush (City of Lights, #3) I would recommend this novella as must read because I couldn't imagine a better, more perfect ending for Noah and Charlotte...

This is a short novella from Noah's perspective about his journey to acceptance of his disability. It was intense and emotional. In the beginning I wasn't convinced that it was necesssary but I endedup loving it and Noah's perspective and struggle was an important addition to his and Charlotte's story.

My heart is so full right now!

As a rule I stay away from tragic books so getting my heart broken repeatedly isn’t an experience that ever happened to me. And that’s exactly what happened here.
I’m so freaking proud of the hero NOAH LAKE!.
The courage it took him to conquer his blindness was freaking unbelievable. That too all because he wanted a future with heroine devoid of the self loathing, hate, and anger he currently battles. During his solo journey to rediscover himself, I cheered, I laughed, I cursed, I cried and I was equally astonished by the unexpected kindness he received and perplexed by the unnecessary cruelty he suffered.
I will never again gaze at a blind person without thinking about the struggles he/she faces every single moment of every single day!

After a heartbreaking epilogue where I finally lost control and shed a tear, I’m still not over this couple. I was hoping for a miracle and that didn’t happen when this couple deserved it more than anything else! My only disappointment.

Absolutely recommended.

I loved this book so much! Read it in one sitting! Didn't realize I needed this novella in follow up to Rush until I finished it. But I did, I did need it! Just simply amazing!

This book is Noah's story and what he went through after his separation from Charlotte. He needed that time to find himself and become acclimated with living in the outside world. I cried, I laughed, I hoped.....sigh I fell in love with Noah! Damn, what an amazing man!

Because of this novella, I am screaming at the top of my lungs for all of my friends to read Rush and Endless Possibility!

Brilliant job Ms Emma Scott! This book has definitely made it into my top 10 of the year!

Ansonsten war es perfekt und das Ende ein Traum. :)
