Who needs claws when you’ve got a baseball bat? Lauren Evans sure as heck doesn’t.
Human Lauren has a protective streak a mile wide and one immediate goal in life -- get her best friend out of an abusive household. If that involves a little bat-based redecorating, so be it.
Unfortunately -- or fortunately -- a certain sexy-as-hell cop breaks up the fight before she has a chance to really get going. Grayslake police officer Van Abrams is too hot for his own good, and his handcuffs make all those wonderful places tingle. Too bad he, you know, arrested her and stuff. But then he becomes overbearing, demanding, and commanding. Suddenly Lauren finds herself in his arms, in his bed, and mated to his werebear butt. What’s up with that?
Werebear Enforcer Van Abrams doesn’t want anything to do with humans. He’s got reasons, and they’re damn good ones. He doesn’t need to explain himself to anyone, especially the curvaceous, luscious, gorgeous, human Lauren. Then, his bear decides Lauren is his mate and Van’s anti-human feelings abandon him. He still hasn’t figured out if that’s a good thing. Of course, when danger rolls in from Boyne Falls and joins with a powerful prick from Grayslake, Van realizes that, human or not, Lauren is his. Van hopes he can kill their enemies and still make it home for dinner. *-*
Warning: This book contains bad guys (more than one) being bad to good girls (two if you’re counting), and one group of humans who sorta end up… dead. Unfortunately, all that comes with a lot of blood, tears, and balls of fur. In this one, boy bears really do drool and human girls rule (and kick ass). We also learn that you can never have enough baseball bats, brake fluid, or fire pokers. Just sayin’!!*-*
This is the second book in the bestselling Grayslake series: Book #1: No Ifs, Ands, or Bears About It Book #2: All Roar and No Bite Book #3: Roaring Up the Wrong Tree Book #4: Love at First Roar Book #5: Howl My Name Book #6: Sunday Bear-becue
This was a decent read but it didn't at any point suck me into this story. It seemed overly predictable. I think my biggest complaint is Mia. I didn't like her in the first book and was disappointed by how often she made appearances in this book. It seemed every page or so she was whining " language". I just didn't fall in love with this story and feel it's overpriced at its current $4.99 list price. I'm done with this series now and wouldn't personally.recommend it.
Lauren is a human. She doesn’t have much, but she works for what she has and is extremely loyal and protective of her friend. She also has an extreme problem with authority. Her best friend is married to an abusive asshole, but not just any asshole, the town mayor. She has made it her job to get her friend out of this relationship and to safety.
Van is a werebear and completely hates humans. He has no qualms about hiding his prejudice. He is also the enforcer to the pack of werebears and part of the local law enforcement. He shows up at the mayor’s house as an officer of the law to break up the fight between Lauren and her baseball bat and the mayor. Van gets a whiff of the her and realizes that Lauren is her mate.
This isn’t a bad story, but I didn’t like it nearly as much as the first story in this series. First, I’m not a fan of the fact that Lauren’s friend does the abused girlfriend that chooses to continue to get abused over and over and doesn’t want to press charges. She does finally leave the mayor in this book, but he had put her in the hospital several times before she is finally convinced to leave. Second, Van’s hatred towards humans. While he does have a reason for his hatred, I would think it is something that would be upsetting, but not enough in my opinion for this amount of hatred.
All in all, I still enjoyed the story. I still see this as being a good series. I still love the characters. The heroine is kickass and very loyal. There is also a large part with the little bear cub, Parker, from the first book. The scene with Lauren watching Mia talk to this little bear and not knowing about werebears is pretty funny. I’m really excited to read the next story.
I think you could read this book without having read the previous book, though I would recommend book one over this one.
My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
This is a revisit for me. I read the series back in 2015, but when it was offered on audio, I decided that I wanted to revisit the series. I’m a fan of this series. I love how this series tackles hard topics, but adds humor too.
In this story, Lauren is a human living in a mostly shifter community. Her best friend is married to the mayor, but he thinks he’s above the law. He beats her, but Lauren won’t allow it. She goes after the mayor. She’s not scared of his power. That’s when deputy and werebear enforcer Van Abrams shows up to break up the dispute.
Van hates humans. He makes no bones about it. He has no use for them. That is until he meets Lauren. He learns that she is his true mate. He must learn to overcome is prejudice. She catches him saying some horrible things about humans, but then he explains that isn’t how he feels about her, just her people. You can imagine how that goes.
Someone is trying to kill Lauren. The mayor is trying to cover up his abuse as his wife finally leaves him. Oh, and there are issues with the wolf pack and their hatred of the hyenas.
This story tackles several hard issues like men in power and how they think they are above the law. There is also the species version of racism against humans and hyenas. The bears have their reasons for that hatred, but they must learn that just because there are bad humans and hyenas, doesn’t mean that they’re all bad. The story of why Van hates humans is a real heartbreaker. It made me tear up and hate those humans too.
Narration Again, I really enjoyed Kendall Taylor’s narration. She handles this cast of mostly bear males really well. I thought she really brought out the emotion in the story, when Lauren goes after the mayor and Van telling his heartbreaking story. I will be on the lookout for more stories narrated by her.
**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Werebear enforcer Van Abrams has his reasons for the disdain he feels towards humans and is shocked when his bear recognizes the gorgeous, bat swinging full human Lauren as his true mate. It looks like he'll finally have to deal with his feelings because he's claiming his mate and hunting down a powerful enemy out to kill her.
Is it surprising that the human hating Van's destined mate is a human? Not really yet that didn't stop me from finding much to love about this book. When we meet Lauren she's busting into her best friend's house, baseball bat in hand, to stop her abusive husband before he lands another strike. Does it matter that he's the town's mayor? Nope. Lauren gives him a taste of his own medicine and this is when she meets Van. As he's putting handcuffs on her and carting her off to jail. Romantic story to tell the kids one day, right?
Lauren has a foul mouth, stands up to authority, and though she doesn't have much, she works hard for everything she has. An absolute delight and hilariously matched to Van's dominate, overprotective demeanor. I wasn't happy with Van's attitude towards humans in the first book but after learning why, I understand and applaud his immediate efforts to fix how he has treated the town's humans. The sexy times? H-O-T and builds as it should in a relationship that moves quickly but still faces bumps in the road. Everything about Lauren and Van is done right and a pleasure to read.
The mayor doesn't have a monopoly on being a total a-hole. Wolves the Grayslake bears are working with to clear out a pack of troublesome hyenas are causing problems of their own. Well, one in particular is causing all the problems and Van isn't having any of it. All of this is more of a side story to Lauren and Van figuring out how their relationship can work and I'm totally okay with that. There's a satisfying end to the wolf/mayor problem and none of it gets in the way of what I really enjoyed, Van and Lauren.
I'm sure I can think of another way to say how big of a fan I am of Lauren and Van but I'll stop. I thought there was a bit more humor and not quite the same dark edge in this book compared to the first and I think that's great. I had a lot of fun going back to Grayslake and think the supporting characters are almost as awesome as the lead roles. I haven't read anything by Celia Kyle I didn't like and All Roar and No Bite is no exception. - Stephanie
This was a random book I picked out and it turned out it was for the best! I loved the story and I loved the characters (which is a big plus for me!).
It was fun, had a good sense of humor. But it still presented a series issue (in the context of the story).
My only negative comment would be that I would have liked a LOT more suspense as opposed to knowing who the perpetrator was from the beginning. But that's just my hang up. It doesn't have a major effect on the story.
Anyway, give this book a try! It won't disappoint! Now I'm off to check out this author and the rest of her books.
All Roar and No Bite follows up with Grayslake characters introduced in No Ifs, Ands, or Bears About It. Author Celia Kyle books supply my requisite alpha shifter males, steamy passion, and big doses of humor. The laughter starts with her amusing titles, and the extra boost of featuring BBW heroines clinches the attraction!
A big fan of her Ridgeville series (and Maya!), I didn't think I could ever love a Kyle shifter series as well as it. I shouldn't have doubted Celia's wonderful imagination and talent with words. Add in the bonus that her readers don't have to spend a long time waiting for her next book, and you have an author who breeds die-hard fans. Of course, that doesn't keep us from impatiently waiting for our next Kyle "fix".
(If you don't know what all the fuss is about, check out her Facebook page 'Author Celia Kyle'. She has a lot of give-aways, and you might win a free read. Once you're hooked, you'll rush to share her with your friends.)
Well, my "pink bits" kept getting interrupted by the annoying-ass, fucking, Mia who kept bitching about "language".
People have got to chill with being upset over "curse" words. Further, in this case, I think little boy were-bear shifters have enough to worry about growing up than if the adults around them say "shit".

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought this book back in 2014, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I own this whole series!!
The both covers are great! This book was originally published under the title All Roar and No Bite, and I think the cover and name changed when Kindle Worlds went away.
This is the 2nd book in this series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content. While it is not necessary, I highly recommend reading the books in order because it is more awesome when you know the other characters!
Lauren is protective, and while she is protecting her friend from an abusive husband, she gets arrested by Van. She is Van’s mate! Van has some baggage having to do with humans because of his past! This causes all sorts of drama, and her life is in danger. This was an exciting read, and a certain cub from book 1 also causes his own fair share of trouble. I loved this book as much as the first. Can’t wait to see who is next in finding their mate!
I highly recommend to bear shifter fans who love Celia Kyle’s style and exciting stories with lots of bears!
I really like the characters in this series, and Lauren and Van are no exception. I love that the heroines in these stories are strong and spunky. The story is a good read.
This was a pretty good story. I liked Lauren very much. I wasn't too sure about Van (considering his problem with humans and the fact that Lauren is human) but he turned out to be a great hero.
Lauren is a BBW human woman that grew up poor but she's got a good heart. She works in a diner as a waitress and has a crappy apartment but she does the best she can. Her friend Anna is married to the Mayor of her town and beats her so Lauren does whatever she can to protect Anna.
Van is a werewolf and also the enforcer for the local pack that's led by his brother, Ty (the hero from book #1 No Ifs, Ands, or Bears About It). Van was attacked by humans when he was very young and the humans killed his uncle so Van has a very bad opinion of humans and is known for it.
The story starts out with Lauren showing up at Anna's house because Anna's neighbor called Lauren to let her know Anna's husband (the mayor) is beating her again. Lauren shows up with a baseball bat trying to stop things and ends up on the receiving end of some hits herself. The police show up and break things up and Van is one of the responding officers. He gets a whiff of Lauren and is all the sudden both he and his bear are very interested in her. His previous issue with dealing with humans is suddenly not so much of an issue when she's around. Both Lauren and the mayor are arrested and since they both had options to press charges they made an agreement that gets them both out of jail and Anna a quick & quiet divorce. Van wants to talk to Lauren further but she manages to leave the station before he can and then he has trouble finding her afterwards. He eventually finds her just as the mayor is trying to accost her on the street for her part in helping his wife escape him. Van saves Lauren from the mayor and decides that both her and Anna need some protection until the mayor can be taken care of. Lauren thinks that Van is hot but also is sure that a hot guy like him wouldn't seriously be interested in her. In order to save herself the heartache, Lauren tries to distance herself from Van but he doesn't make it easy on her and when an attempt is made on Lauren's life, Van moves her in with him...for safety reasons of course. LOL.
Lauren starts staying with Van but things soon get complicated when she meets Parker. Parker is a bear shifter cub and when he thinks she's threatening his mother he shifts and tries to attack Lauren. Lauren freaks the hell out and Van is left with a tough situation to deal with. He manages to calm Lauren down and explain about shifters but then there's the difficulties with the pack laws because a human that's not mated to a shifter is considered a danger and has to be "dealt with". Lauren likes Van and doesn't want to be "dealt with" but she's also not sure if she's willing to mate with Van immediately. They come to an agreement (with Ty since he's the boss) that Lauren is considered Van's mate but she'll be given some time for them to actually consummate the mating. Lauren and Van are fated mates so they feel the pull to each other and while Lauren isn't the kind of woman that normally sleep with a guy she doesn't know well, she finds that she's quickly falling for Van so things escalate relatively quickly and pretty soon Van and Lauren are mated and doing pretty good. There's some additional drama before everything is said and done though. Lauren and Van have to deal with his feeling towards humans and how it affects or could affect their relationship. There's also the issue with the mayor trying to kill Lauren as well as some issues with the local wolf shifters. Things get very interesting before everything calms down but everything is settled in the end and Lauren and Van are able to start their HEA.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked both Lauren and Van and liked their story. This was a very good addition to the series and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I'd recommend this book. :D
Second book in Grayslake series - Van (the clan’s Enforcer) and Lauren (a human) find love, werebear style.
The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
->i>Can’t resist a shifter book: it’s like crack for me. I like the ‘verse, for the most part, and getting to know the characters. I’m most intrigued with Isaac, and he’s the reason I keep reading this series.
-Van’s backstory was touching: his reason for disliking humans in the first place, and the scenes where he relives that, were among the most touching in the book and the reason for its rating.
-not my favorite heroine: just not alot of affection for her. She makes a couple of TSTL moves that made me eye roll.
-Predictable: no real surprises with the big conclusion and while I liked Van, I wasn’t invested in the romance.
The Bottom Line It’s ok. I’ll read more, mostly because I want to get to Isaac’s story.
Van's story, second book in the series had me wondering if Celia Kyle likes to create annoying female characters. I liked Van's story and his reasons for hating humans and what better way of making him rethink his ways but a human mate. So my rating was saved by Van. Celia did a great job with Van, his portrayal and this way I pushed through my dislike for Lauren.
As Mia, Lauren manages to annoy me and make me skip the pages. For the love of female characters everywhere why on earth a woman would chose fingers over the real deal during her mating knowing that this is it? It just doesn't make sense to me to have such a heroine who would show attitude one minute and stupidity the other....
I wanted to see more action and backstory. secondary characters, interaction, Martin and Ana, something.... but I guess I cannot expect much from a story where erotic scenes take precedence over story.
Amazing! I loved this just as much as I loved the first book. Lauren was one of my favourite heroines ever and I loved her reluctance to jump into anything with Van. I loved how Celia wrote her and it felt real to me. It felt like how a human might actually react to discovering what she does and it was so well written. Funny, compelling and exciting. I loved every page and Van was a fantastic alpha. He was strong and powerful, but he was also understanding and patient with Lauren. I loved that. An absolute must read for any shifter fans and fans of Celia. Brilliant!
Celia Kyle is my go-to when I need some funny and spicy shifters and a love (and sex) connection between an alpha shifter and a curvy woman with spunk, and this book is no exception. This series is a bit more serious, though, than most of her other shifter ones, but I like it just as well. Throw in some fighting between wolf, coyote, and bear shifter sects, and I like it even better.
Thumbs up for this one. And can't wait until the next in the series.
I loved this book. It was quite funny. and even though Lauren Freak out when little Parker turn into a Bear in front of her. I think she took it very well.
Celia has become one of my goto author for shifter books and for humor.
Clan enforcer/law officer Van Abrams has a full plate. The alliance isn't working out too well, his counterpart in the wolf pack is a jerk and the last thing he needs is
This is seriously one of the funniest and sexiest books I have read in a long time. Van and Lauren are so good together, even if she fights it every step of the way.
Really, really enjoy this story. There are still two more brothers that really need their stories told...and maybe a spinoff series about a wolf named Reid!!!!
Wow I have really enjoyed this one. Celia puts such depth and flavour into her books. Well done Celia. If you enjoy reading shapeshifter and romance then this is the series and author for you
Lauren and Van make a very volatile and interesting couple. Lauren has gone after the Mayor with a baseball bat – the Mayor is once again beating up his wife, Lauren’s best friend – Van is the police officer who arrives to separate them and arrest both their butts, oh by the way Van despises humans Yeah, quite an unusual first meeting. Especially when Van’s bear recognized Lauren as their mate. When a short time later the sleazeball Mayor attacks Lauren on the street, Van’s defend his mate senses go into overdrive and he takes her back to his home for her protection. Except no humans are allowed at the bear’s home, unless they’re mates. Even more complications for one human who only wanted to save her friend – and maybe get to know the sexy officer a bit better.
One precious little bear shifter will make a huge first impression on Lauren, and in a way seal her fate. Or at least give it a good kick start.
I had a lot of fun with All Roar and No Bite, and this one pretty much cemented my need to read the entire series, and then start on the Kindle World additions. There are discoveries, danger, friendships to be made, mates to claim and a whole lot of sexy moments in between. If you love Shifter Romance then this is a series that you should get to know better. It has everything I happen to love about sifters, and I’d definitely recommend it for any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.
I originally read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription, but its not available in KU right now.
I enjoyed this book more then the first one. While I liked the main charters in the previous book I did not like them in this one. Ty had a hard time having his mate, mia, be accepted in the last book but wants to kill Lauren because she found out about werebears in this one, even though his brother told him she is his mate. To me that is not a good leader or brother. I also felt if I heard Mia say language one more time I would snap at her. Parker while cute in the first book seems out of control in this one. He tired to kill Lauren and everybody seemed fine with it.
Additionally, I hate that they are attempting to purge or eliminate an entire species. I understand the dislike and hatred but this seemed to go to far. There are a lot of innocent people hurt due to this.
I’ve talked a lot about the other charters I guess I should talk about the main charters in this book. The first scene when van arrests Lauren, shouldn’t he have gotten her medical attention? Instead of doing that like a mate should when his mate has been hurt he just watches he be in pain and causes her more injuries when he puts cuffs on her. Another scene that irritated me was when Parker attacked Lauren. Ty wants to hurt Lauren because she is trying to protect Mia from Parker, not understanding what is going on, Van does not stand up for her like I think he should. All in all I’m disappointed in Van as I think he should have been a more alpha character and helped care for his mate more.
It seems like all I’ve done is complain about the book but I did enjoy the interactions between the main characters.

Stop - This is the gift to give someone you love! Sacrifice and unconditional commitment is what every friend and mate needs!
Lauren is the BFF you can't live without - literally! She dropped everything when the neighbor called to earn her that there was screams & concern for her friend. Lauren comes to "handle it". The anger of domestic violence dispicable. Laure n definitely went down a path that will have some repercussions but she would do it again for her friend Anna. She literally saved her life in more ways than one. Officer Martin & Officer Van come to make the arrest an d then the chaos begins. Lots of actions and some releasing of secrets that will tug your heart strings. Book two of the series dynamite! I would read Book one first that makes book two so much better because the character's carry through. I spent a couple of days off around Christmas listening to the audiobooks of the first four in this series, and they were a fun background to Christmas cooking and other activities. For the most part, they were like cotton candy - light, fun and sweet - except I was surprised by how bloody and gory they became (I came to expect it after the first book, but it was a little startling initially). I think this author will join my list of books to read when I need something low-angst.
One thing to say about this one - it lost a star because I got So. Sick. And. Tired of Mia saying "language" over and over. It wasn't even her book, and it was overwhelming and incessant. Aside from being annoyingly repetitive, these are grown adults, not kindergartners. She scolded them when there was not a child in sight. She scolded them when they even thought a swear word. If she can handle the blood and guts and were shifters in these characters' lives, she can handle salty language.
“Claimed by the Bear” is the title of this story that I read which is the exact same story as “All Roar and No Bite”. Love reading shapeshifters. This one is about bear shifters and really, really great. Lauren is a human who is rescuing her friend from her abusive spouse. This time she is bringing a bat. Well it did not go as she would have hoped except her friend is safe. She got arrested for assault by her friend’s spouse. And the arresting officer is a hunk of a man who flipped her up with his hotness. Well office hotness is a bear shapeshifter and just by seeing Lauren and being near her he knows she is his mate. But the kicker is that Lauren does not know about his added animal. I wonder how that will go?
Overall, I enjoyed this book and the series so far. There is one thing that I just got SO ANNOYED by - Mia and her “language” every time someone said a cuss word. It wasn’t as annoying in the first book because of it being tied to her father. But *holy mother of god* it was so annoying in this book. This is obviously an adult book, so I find it childish that she had to correct other adults for their language (especially in adult situations). Also, the child in this story nearly killed the FMC (who didn’t even know about bear shifters at this point) and it was made to be like Lauren was OVERREACTING to the 4 year old bear cub literally going after her trying to kill her. The child basically had no consequences. But overall, the storylines were fine. I don’t think I’ll continue the series.
