From the humans that brought you BarkBox (and BarkPost and BarkShop) finally comes Dogs and Their People.
Finally, Bark & Co. has tapped the humans at BarkPost, the company’s publishing arm, to put into words and photographs the first official BarkBook, capturing the depth, spirit, and power of the extraordinary bond between humans and their pups.
Mostly community-sourced and filled with never-before-told anecdotes, stories, photos, and intimate insights, Dogs and Their People spotlights over 200 unique and remarkable dogs. Some are celebri-dogs while others are just making their debut; some will make your heart ache, while others will make it soar; and others simply look really dapper in color. All bring to life and celebrate the crazy, consuming, insatiable love we feel for the World’s Ultimate Best Friend.
Works best as a warning to the unknowing about just how...messed up many people's relationships are with their dog. There is some seriously horrifying stuff in here that is presented as cute or human interest-ish. Instead this is a parade of dog-owner cautionary tales that mostly hang on the thread of the perils of over involvement and anthropomorphization. Look, I have no beef with people who love their dogs, I really really love my dogs too. What I don't do is mistake these unique and crazy creatures for four legged humans. Neither do I make the even bigger mistake of forcing these companions into relationships that would be twisted and dysfunctional for humans, but that the dog cannot escape because they are owned by these crazies who somehow think their over involvement with their pet is somehow cute or a signal of their inherent quirkiness. I don't care how many tailored suits you buy your Pomeranian, when you aren't looking that DOG (not a child, not a doll) is licking his butt.
Recently, I started reading this book and couldn’t stop. It is filled with delightful mini-tales of dog lovers and their pooches. These are not any ordinary dog lovers, they are dog-obsessed to do right by their canine family members! While most of us would not go to the extremes some stories describe, it is nevertheless uplifting to know that a segment of our population is so dedicated to their beloved pets.
The best aspect of this book is the humor. A top-notch cartoonist drew highly entertaining artwork to accompany many of the stories. And someone who knows dogs better than dogs know themselves wrote extremely witty definitions of some common words. Eg: “Dirt: A miracle compound that can clean your skin, nourish your hunger, and hide your valuables. Humans try to keep it out of the house because they’re jealous of how much you love it.”
The photographs of the dog lovers and their dogs are beautifully captured on the pages of this high quality product. Much care was taken to lay out the book in a way that makes sense and tickles the fancy of a true dog lover. I heartily recommend this book as a gift to a dog-loving friend or better yet, to yourself if you also love dogs.
Brief stories of how people found their dogs or their favorite attributes, complete with photos. Silly doodles, tips, & how-tos in the margins. I just skimmed through most of it, only reading a few select entries.
Full of cute pictures of doggos and their people along with their stories. Despite a few stories being a little cringey, most of them are just heartwarming.
I dare you to read this book and not laugh. It is chock full of anecdotes from dog owners, and if you have a dog, you will definitely relate! Each anecdote is a paragraph or two, so it's a really fast read. It is accompanied by adorable photos and hilarious doodles by cartoonist Dave Coverly (Speed Bump). A real feel-good book, and a must for anyone who works with dogs.
I loved this book. It was was so heartwarming and I could relate to many of the stories. I recommend this book to anyone who has a pet....whether it be a dog or cat or even another pet. It made me realize that I belong to a crazy group of people...people who are caring and loving. People who spoil their pets and treat as a real member of the family.
I've never had a dog, but always hoped to have one one day. This kind of made me rethink that. But the pictures were cute! And people who do things to help animals are awesome!
