Ridgeville #5

Fierce in Fur

Rate this book
Elise really did love her family. Mostly. Except they just wouldn’t leave her the heck alone. Yes, she’d just returned after two years of hell at the hands of a militant group called Freedom. And, yes, she was a severely broken Senstive. But, no, she wasn’t a baby who needed to be coddled and wrapped in cotton. Which was why she got the hell out of Dodge and headed to the one place she knew she’d feel more herself and less cotton-y: Ridgeville. Only her escape didn’t go as expected. There was a whacked out wedding, followed immediately (really immediately) by Elise putting her nursing skills to use and catching a couple of babies. Somewhere along the way, her friend Maddy worked her Sensitive magic mojo, and Elise began to feel more like herself and less jacked in the head. Of course, her life took a turn for the O-M-G-Awesome when she stumbled across her mate. Did she mention he was over six feet of lickaliciousness?

Brute had never put much thought into the idea of an all knowing deity. Not that he didn’t believe, he just hadn’t ever pondered the idea. He was too busy protecting the Prima (mostly from herself), protecting the pride (mostly from the Prima) and generally keeping his family from murdering each other (often). But the day he met the curvaceous fox he’d call his own was the day he figured there was a God, and the guy kinda liked him. That thought stuck with him until he found out that his sweet fox was the battered and bruised Sensitive that had been rescued with Maddy. Then his mind centered on helping his woman heal and was most definitely not on the hardness of his junk when she was near. Nope. Not at all.

When they get to sexy times, it’s all broken beds and orgasms until a threat from the past shows up on Elise’s doorstep. Will Brute be able to prove to his little fox that the gentle giant can become a furry fierce lion when needed?

On the mend after spending two years held captive and abused by the militant group called Freedom, Elise is ready to get out on her on and begin the next stage of healing in Ridgeville. The town is full of…eccentric shifters but it’s the six foot plus wall of muscles Brute that catches her eye and makes her fox finally come out of hiding. Brute recognizes Elise as his mate yet tries not to overwhelm her after learning she’s the rescued Sensitive. He makes it a couple of weeks before his lion can no longer take the distance and when they learn an old enemy is out to get her, Brute is ready to tear the town apart to protect his mate.

This book is just as cute and outrageous as the previous installments but with Elise’s abuse, there’s a slightly more intense edge to it. Elise is doing her best to recover from her torture and Brute is doing his best to not jump her bones. She balances back and forth from being terrified, dishing out sass, and daydreaming out her hunky mate. He balances back and forth from being overcome by rage at what his poor mate had to endure and wanting to strip her naked and lay claim. It’s not always happy happy sexy times but that’s okay because it made it feel like there was more meat on the bone when it came to the story and since both characters were previously introduced, there was more depth to them and that’s what I liked most about this book.

At about 100 pages the romance happens quickly, though not as fast as past books, and I’m okay with that. It’s hot and serves as a way for Elise to make new, very happy memories with a man that obviously adores her. My only complaint, and it’s not a huge one, is how quickly she went from not ready to let’s get it on. Granted, a traumatic event does take place before that puts things into perspective but I still couldn’t help feel like my copy was missing a few pages.

Fierce in Fur has plenty of laughs, how could it not with it starting out with a Prima demanding marriage while in labor in the back of a car at a truck stop, and a sweet healing romance. There’s no headway made with finding and stopping Freedom but that just gives more time to spend with Elise and Brute and I was on board with that. I think anyone looking for a quick, fun paranormal romance should give this series a try.

I love reading this series and this book. This series is funny and sexy and growlie. Maya the Prima of the pride is so fierce and funny she cracks me up. Elise is a shifter sensitive fox whose job was to keep everyone calm, but being kidnapped and held for two years she lost her fox about being raped and beaten repeatedly. Elise has had enough of her overly protective family so with the help of Maddy who is another sensitive that was recued with her and a very pregnant Maya she makes her escape to become a member of the Ridgeville pride. Brute who is a guard for Maya is drawn to the little fox while delivering Maya's twins he is almost sure that she is his mate, but with all the things going on he doesn't have time to examine it closer. I loved that Brute was careful with Elise he knew that she had been through a lot and she had her fears so he had lunch with her daily until he asked her on a date. I also liked that her boss Seno who was a bear shifter he and his mate were protective of her and helped her. This is my favorite book of this series so far this pride believes in standing up and protecting each other. When a shifter from her past threatens her Brute will do anything to protect his mate and almost killed the guy when he objects to Elise becoming a member of the pride. I love reading Ms. Kyle's books this book was well written. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

3.5 Stars! Brute was adorable as a mate! Like a bog teddy bear :) 3.5 for the story in general. Ending was abrupt (for me), and the bad guy reveal was almost comical ( it was unbelievably easy, nobody even had to put much effort ). Maya (The Prima) also sometimes gets on my nerves.

Probably my least favorite in this series so far

~2.5 stars~

I don’t know what happened with this one. It almost didn’t even feel like a paranormal read. Very little shifting went on. The hero and heroine never developed a realistic relationship to me. It went something like this. Sniff Sniff. We're mates. I love you. All is great. The end. It just seemed to lack any foundation. I didn’t get a good feel for the characters or their connection. I'm sure I will still read others in this series, because I have loved most of them, but this one was disappointing. I also feel this one is overpriced at $3.99. It was only 101 pages and very little seemed to happen. Not one Id personally recommend.

I think this book may have been my favourite book in the series (so far?)
Elise rebuilds her inner strength with the help of Maddy and her mate Brute. Brute is a big fierce sweetie :)
The secondary characters are great, although one downside would be that Maya is getting a tad annoying.
I grinned, I got tears in my eyes and was disappointed in the "bad guy" because I didn't expect him to be the guy...damn him.
I am hoping there are more books coming in this series.
If you have read the other books in this series I recommend this one.
If you like shape shifter books and you also liked the basic story line of Kele Moon's "Defying the Odds" then I recommend reading this story.

Poor broken Elise, she has had two years of absolute he'll but is trying so hard to move on and recover. Her poor little fox has been hiding until her move to Ridgeville and help from Maddy. This story was intense, even a little heartbreaking, but also uplifting as the character finds strength and love. Brute in so many ways is a gentle giant and stays so calm and careful unless he feels his little mate is threatened, don't poke the Lion coz you won't like what happens. Really loved this one, would have loved a bit more of the babies though. Started 6/12/21 Finished 7/12/21

This is one heck of an emotional book. The topic was so sensitive that I shed a tear because of it. I love how the story was laid out thought. The hurt, the process of moving on, finding the person who will love you, and lastly the healing.

Every person is entailed to have a new beginning from the past that they had. People should accept the new them, and not look for the old personality. It might be different from this book, but the massage is still there.

This was a great read. An enjoyable read with some not so enjoyable moments thrown in. We get some laughs in especially at the parents house, and then we get some scary, traumatizing moments also at the parents house. Great read all around.

Really nice book, a bit too quick to resolve some issues and a bit too quick to fall in love but still very enjoyable and sufficient character development.

my review:

This is the book I liked best so far. It dealt with someone who was so traumatized and how a huge scary man helped her regain her life. With the heavy subject matter it was still a book that made you laugh out loud and really enjoy reading it!

Synopsis:

Loved this book and so happy for Brute! He deserved a happy ending as did Elise! I loved how patient Brute was with Elise, how considerate, protective and supportive. Poor Elise has been through hell the last couple of years as she was the sensitive that Maddy rescued and took with her when Ricker came to rescue her from Freedom. Poor Elise spent the her time in captivity being repeatedly raped and beaten until they broke her, her inner fox abandoned her and when she did she took Elise's sensitive abilities with her.

I love how Maddy and especially Brute help her heal and reconnect with her fox and her abilities again! It was finding Brute that brought her fox out as her fox recognised Brute as her mate and demanded they claim him!

I was surprised and a bit saddened at who the villain in this story that was threatening Elise turned out to be. I liked him, what little we saw of him and didn't think he was that kind of guy, neither did the rest of the pride until they seen the photo and then Jenner in a panic outed himself. I am happy that Elise has found somewhere she feels safe now, where she's surrounded by people that care about her and will protect her and fight for her now! I also love all the Maya-isms in the chapter headings and the Brute ones too!

This one might be my new favorite of the series. Brute has always been a background guard character who was big, but sweet. Elise we met in the previous book as the horribly abused fox shifter that Maddy and Ricker rescue. I was a little concerned about how these two would actually work and how much freaking out would be involved.

The romance in this book was a lot slower than the previous installments. This was done for obvious reasons, but it made for a lot more time spent with the dating phase and the adorable-ness that is Brute trying to win over his mate. Elise proved herself to be a tough chick and Brute is her ultimate protector (even though she can still rock it on her own). The overall storyline is still progressing in a positive direction, even with some turns down to a deep dark place. The Ridgeville pack is growing with each passing book. Eventually, I think, there will end up being no more mate-able options. Unless we get to see Grayson's mating book come up, in a few years.

I'm still loving these yummy little books. For fans of paranormal romance, with smutty goodness, these books are the perfect quick read.

OK, first of all, best wedding ever in this book. Now, Elise had been taken captive by the evil Alistair, but Maddy and Ricker managed to save her. However, after being treated like broken glass by her family for a long time, Elise decides to go to Ridgeville to live with the lions.

Once she's in Ridgeville, the lovely fox finds her mate, Brute. Brute, short for Brutus but only his mother can call him that, is one of Maya's guards, and one of the largest of all the lions in the pride. He tends to scare people because of his size, but Elise isn't scared of him. He's the only person who makes her feel safe, and what's more, her inner fox starts to make appearances again when she's around Brute.

I love Brute. He's so sweet and strong. He may look fierce and fearsome, but he's really a lump of marshmallowy goo on the inside, as long as his protective instincts aren't roused, then watch out. Elise is really, really strong. No one really thinks she is, except for maybe Maddy. Maddy always believes in Elise.

As always, the story is hot and sexy, but there's a lot of fun going on in there too, especially any of Maya's sayings.

Elise couldn't use her Sensitive talents (calming shifter emotions and defusing tense situations)after her rescue from kidnappers. After two years, the over-protectiveness of her family and attitudes in her hometown convince her to contact Maya (Ridgeville Prima) for permission to move to her community to start over.

That leads to a road trip for the massively pregnant lioness and her BFFs to pick up Maddy. When Alex (Ridgeville Prime and twins' father) and his crew intercept the group on the return trip, the screaming and posturing abound as Elise is assisted by massive shifter, Brute. Brute recognizes her as his mate and proceeds carefully, but steadfastly in his claiming of her over practically everyone's objections. Elise finally begins regaining her Sensitive abilities when a past danger rears it's ugly head threatening her.

The hilarity of Maya's delivery and continuing antics as Prima thread humor throughout the great shifter romance and adventure. Celia Kyle packs a wallop in a very short novel that continues the "Ridgeville" series.

Elise needs to get away from her family, after being kidnapped and tortured for two years she feels the place to be is with the Ridgeville pack. Of course she is not quite prepared for a very pregnant Maya to storm in and take her, or the fact that she is in full out labor ready to give birth to her twins.

Brute realizes his mate is in front of him, but the turmoil her life has been through he is not sure if she is ready to find her mate. Holding off as long as he can, Brute has a plan to gain his mate's trust and it is easier than he thought until she is threatened and then the lion wants out to protect her from ever feeling hurt ever again.

Although you have the Maya craziness and Brute's little sisters issues, which are quite fun. There is a softer quality to this story and the man one would least suspect of being tender is the sweetest mate out there. Another fantastic addition in the series.

Fierce In Fur tells the story of my favorite male character, Brute. I love the huge, strong, quiet, deadly types. And Brute certainly fits the bill. He spends his time protecting the Prima (mostly from herself), protecting the pride (mostly from the Prima) and generally keeping his family from murdering each other (often). And when he meets his mate, he is thrilled. Until he realizes that his mate is Elise, the brutalized sensitive rescued with Maddy from a brutal two years of captivity. Broken and bruised from her horrific treatment at the hands of barbarians, Brute has his hands full not only gaining Elise’s love and trust, but protecting her from the past which is determined to overwhelm her once more. Still my favorite couple!

“It sounded like a good idea at that time. And I figured I could apologize later. Apparently that only works in theory. – Brute Mauer, Prima guard, now wondering if there is a mate handbook.”

Great story. I loved seeing the growth and change for Elise. This book took things slower for the two shifters. Considering all Elise had been through, it was great seeing her get stronger and go after what she wants. Brute is the perfect gentle giant for her.

The story this time is sweet and delightful. I could not resist loving them together. I was enthralled from beginning to end!

When things turn steamy the smexy stuff is hawt!! They take their time getting to the mating but when it happens, gurrl, hold on to your panties!!

One of my favorite things is the way Ms Kyle creates such engaging and dynamic. The characters have flaws and most are a little broken, but the way she crafts them makes you want to snuggle them all close! This is why I will bug her until snarky little sister Emma has a HEA just like the rest of the gals in Ridgeville!

Elise was a were-fox sensitive was rescued with Maddy, but she is battered and bruised inside and out. With the help from Maddy, she feels more herself. When she stumbles across her mate who is six feet and lickaliciousness, who life gets better.
Brute is a big man and when he found his mate, his Elise he thought there was a God and that he liked him. But that was until he found out that his precious mate, is the battered and bruised sensitive that was rescued with Maddy. Now he is centered on helping his mate heal. And oh when she is ready for the fun in bedroom, it is hotter then hell.

Fierce in Fur was heartbreaking because what the character Elise had went through and how much she still had to get through to be healed and feel like herself. But it was also entertaining as ever because Maya brings her wisdom around and you just can't help but laugh.

Just loved this story
It is so much fun to re-join these crazy characters. This time it is Brutus’s turn for the mating bug to bite. His mate is Elise, the sensitive Fox shifter brutalised by the Freedom ratbags.
I really loved how gentle Brutus was with Elise and how he protected her.
I so wanted to weep for Elise but what a woman, strong, strong, strong. She so deserved Brutus for a mate.
Elise is a survivor and one of the bravest women I have read about. She was shattered but determined to put herself together again so Freedom did not win.
This story made me laugh at the carrying ons and cry when the depravity that had hurt Elise resurfaced.
These can be read as standalone books but if you have not read any of the Ridgeville series, do yourself a favour and start at the beginning.

This story's female MC was in bk 4 as a kidnapped 'fox' who was a victim of all forms of abuse.
Again I love that a curvaceous women is the ideal. I also really loved Brute, I esp liked how mystified/helpless he became when dealing with his sisters . Can't wait to read the book featuring his youngest sister Emma. This was a fairly short book, but even so, there was very little real/deep emotion between the MC's. The leads issues seemed too easily overcome, this can only be somewhat explained by the length of the story. Unfortunately the more you read of the series the more you realise that the characters are interchangeable along gender lines. The series stories are fairly witty & sexy with light erotica & a touch of shape-shifter paranormal romance & should be enjoyed as such.
Got sick of all the Maya-isms.

A fun, short, sexy story. One thing to note is that the author (& the editor[s]) really need to make a list of sound-alike/similarly spelled words and their meanings, so she can stop TITLING asses in love scenes and TILT them or building stolen walls instead STEEL ones (titled vs tilted; steal vs steel).

Spoiler-ish: this is a SHORT erotic romance. The lead female begins the story just after being rescued from YEARS of abuse. To compress her recovery enough for a short novella, it only takes about 3 months for her to mostly recover via supernatural means. SO not gonna happen in the real world, but if you can latch onto the SuperNat explanation and suspend your disbelief, you can have fun reading this.

Elise was kidnapped and been held captive for two years. She is a very broken sensitive and since she's been home her family has been coddling her and she's ready to go back to Ridgeville. Maddy help her not be as broken as she was and now she feels more like her self now. She came back to a wedding and a delivery of a set of twins.
Brute is one of the prima's guard. When he meets his mate a fox shifter and she is the sensitive that they rescued with Maddy. Now all he wants to do is to protect and show her he would make a good mate for her. Trouble shows up from her past will he be able to protect what's his?
