First, he saved me. I lived because he was a hero. And then he was gone. Uprooted by the fire that destroyed our home, my family moved away and I never saw David Andrews again. Then, he found me. Eighteen years later, he rescued me again - in much simpler terms, of course. By loving me, by giving me the fairy tale I’d always hoped for, he provided me with the perfect life. Now, he needs to be saved. It’s my turn to be strong, to be brave, to be valiant. When flames threaten to turn us to ashes, it’s up to me to pull us From the Wreckage.

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream.
Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.

“Tomorrow is not a guarantee…..neither is yesterday.”

Melissa Collins MM stories have never failed to move us. The way she captures the intensity between her characters always leaves us emotionally wrought. And so it was with eager anticipation we dove into our first MF by this author. We jumped for joy, stocked up on tissues, chocolate and wine, got ourselves in reading mode and prepared to be turned into SOBBING wrecks, needing phone support from one another, hoping to have our hearts shredded and repaired.

‘Without a doubt, grace not only owns my heart, my here and now, all of my todays. She resides in all of my tomorrows.’

The subject matter and the poignancy of how this story came about is indeed moving and this story is very personal to the author, of that there is no doubt as you see little bits of ‘real life’ woven into the pages, from David being a firefighter, to Grace being a teacher and many other moments throughout. This was a very personal journey and the Author’s note at the end is one not to be missed!

‘His words fall directly into my heart. Growing roots in my soul, they take up residence there. They become part of who I am, the air in my lungs, the blood in my veins.’
From the Wreckage worked for us on a some levels however what we had sought from this book…deep seated, soul crushing emotion, just didn’t travel from the pages to our hearts and you have NO IDEA how much it guts us to say that. That’s not to say we weren’t moved in parts, just not enough to have us grasping our chests and sobbing into our Kindles as we had expected. Sadly, we didn’t feel the power from the story we had hoped for.

The relationship between David and Grace was one of destiny, love and courage and whilst their relationship seemed effortless in so many ways, for us it lacked that deep emotional pull we had expected between two characters who are very much soul mates, whose lives were destined to cross paths and especially given the poignancy of the story.

The prologue was gripping and described in such a vivid way we could smell the acrid smoke, feel the flames licking our heels and sense the desperation of the occupants’ moments as Melissa put us through our paces in the introduction to this story.

David Andrews was a beautiful hero. He was sweet, sexy and confident but also showed a very vulnerable side especially where Grace was concerned. For David, Firefighting wasn’t a job, it was a dedication, a love, a calling and he gave it his all.

“…these people, this city, it’s more than just a job.”

For Grace, it had always been David. These two had been bound together by an inexplicable bond since childhood ensuring their lives would always intertwine. Grace respected David’s dedication to his job but also knew she had to live with the reality of the dangerous life threatening situations he placed himself in daily.

“Sometimes, our biggest heroes are the ones who, on the surface were no one at all.”

This is a love story and there is a beautiful message delivered, but we wanted to feel an unbreakable connection, a deep passion, a deep gut wrenching emotional experience which didn’t eventuate. This is a story that shows that love really can conquer all and we know readers will devour this one!

“I am your Gracie.”

Wah, such a wonderful plotline, array of characters, and over all message embedded together!!

This is my second Melissa Collins read, the first being an MM novel, and I have to say that I’m utterly captivated by this author’s writing. It’s not necessarily just the story of it, but it’s the underlying and driving themes that are behind it.

For me, a great book has always been ones that not only necessarily captivate and hold my interest, but more so ones that move, puzzle, awe, and make me think.

From the Wreckage, is definitely one that hit all of these piques, as it delivered what I crave in a read, but also delivered more than just a typical love story.

teaser

IMG 0492

It had everything from romance, friendship, family, heat, suspense, sacrifice, and the inevitability of fate.

IMG 0974

Much more, it had heart in it, which to me, is unsurpassable. It was about life and cherishing every moment of it. Relishing that every second could be your last and the value of your loved ones.

Man, I was one huge sap in this. It made me really emotional while linking it to the firemen, since the male protagonist is a fireman, and the tragic events that took place on 9/11. After all, the remembrance of that day is what inspired this, and all of the brave and selfless men and women who perished, including the authors uncle. Awww, to be brought back to the morning of my 6th grade school year and waking up to seeing the planes crashing into the World Trade Center. So, so terrifying and yet so humbling to what and who you take for granted in life.

I thank all and offer my condolences to the fallen, you will never be forgotten. I thank all of the servicemen and women that serve and protect my community and country still to today that put their lives at risk every day. Thank you. And thank you, Melissa, for this unforgettable story.

Oh, this book. Since you are unable to see my flails and tearstained, puffy-eyed face, I'll have to find the words. This book is a breathtaking, fun, swoony romance about a girl and a boy whose lives have been inextricably woven together since childhood.

David Andrews saved Grace McCann when they were both just kids. Eighteen years later, their paths cross again and the connection between the two is felt almost immediately.

Grace and David quickly fall into an easy, adorable, sweet relationship—the forever kind. Their connection, rooted in childhood and strengthened by the bond they form as adults, is intense and fierce. It's impossible to not get sucked into their gravitational pull, to root for them, and to believe that they will go the distance. And then, heartbreak.

Tragedy strikes. Life as they knew it is irrevocably changed and they're left struggling to put the shattered bits of it back into some kind of order. It's heartbreaking. No, it's devastating. And yet, as they go through their darkest hours, they also find beauty and hope blooming in the ashes.

I LOVED Grace and David so freaking much. I loved them individually as giving, grounded, fantastic human beings, and I loved them together—flirty and tender and scorching hot. Ms. Collins got the perfect relationship formula just right. Then she put my heart through a shredder before somehow healing it, soothing it, and making it overflow with happiness.

This is not a book about 9/11, but it does stand as a tribute to a man who gave his life, and to a tragic time in our history. After all these years, it's still impossible for me to read about that day without tears. Ms. Collins did a phenomenal job of paying tribute to—and acknowledging the gravity of—the 9/11 events, weaving references so deftly into the storyline that the reader almost doesn't realize that's what's going on.

Lovely and heart-wrenching in equal measures, this book will be staying in my heart for a while. ~ Shelly, 5 stars

~~~
I went into this book with eyes wide open—knowing that tears weren’t just a possibility but an eventuality, because of the author, because of the subject, and a little bit because of my mood. And I was right, but not in the way I initially expected…
It’s been eighteen years since David Andrews saved Grace McCann’s life, and she’s never forgotten him. Just as he’s never forgotten her.
When their paths cross once again, they fall into a perfect fairytale romance—until it’s all wrecked by one tragic event. Now, Grace is the one doing the saving, and it’s going to take everything she has to re-build what they once shared.
This is beautiful book—simple in its love story, and yet, remarkable in the way it made me feel. I loved the way this book starts, a prologue that not only forms the foundation for David and Grace’s swoony romance, but also had my heart pounding and my butt scooting to the edge of my seat.
I loved, too, the middle section of this book. When Grace and David find each other again, there is potential for it to be an eye-rolling, yeah, right event, but it’s the furthest thing from. It feels right and real, and the catalyst for series of gorgeous, sexy and delightful moments that perfectly encapsulate who Grace and David are together, and apart.
And then, the final part…the heart-breaking tragedy that had the potential to shatter the beautiful illusion that Melissa Collins created, making me believe that this couple could, and would, survive anything. Although I wish it could have been more of the focal point of this book—there were a couple of things that didn’t quite get the attention I felt they deserved—it also didn’t play out as I expected, and I am thankful for that. No, instead it was a roller-coaster that proved that being in the now is more important than the then or even the later. I didn’t quite cry through it, but damn, I came awful close.
So, where were the tears? They came in the moments when this couple talked about 9/11—about remembering, so that someone always does. And in the note from the author, where she explains her journey with this book—and the loss that inspired it. They weren’t the heaving sobs I’ve experienced reading Ms. Collins’ previous works, but gentle reminders that loss never leaves you, no matter how much time passes. Just as I suspect this book won’t be leaving me any time soon. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars
I have been lucky enough to be a beta reader for Melissa since her first book. I have her permission to leave this book review.
First of all make sure you have time to sit down and read this book in one sitting. I did not and about went crazy. Make sure that you don't read this book in public. I laughed so hard I almost had ice cream come out my nose.
This book is about Grace and David. At 10 years old David saved Grace from her house fire. 18 years later we find David living his dream of being a firefighter.
Grace is a recent graduate from Grad school. Her and her best friend Jade are out on the town celebrating their graduation. They are at the bar Smoke. A bar that firefighters hang out at after their shifts.
David is staring at the girl on the dance floor. He can't believe that it is her. The girl that has run through his mind for the past 18 years. Grace.
This is a line after seeing her again after 18 years.
"The need to see her again is like the flames I just fought. Ravenous."
OMG! How swoon worthy is this guy??!!
I can't go into great detail about this book as it will ruin it for you. I can tell you this is not only the best book Melissa has written thus far, but one of the best books I have ever read! I read about a book a day, so you understand how many books I am comparing this one to.
You will cry, laugh, get mad, melt and be happy. All within the pages of this one book.
Let me start by saying that one of the main things (of MANY) that I LOVE about Melissa Collins’ writing style is how she depicts real life people and situations. Her characters are your neighbors or your best friends, they are down to earth and relatable, who wouldn’t love a hot teacher and a hot firefighter! This DEFINITELY showed in From the Wreckage.
“The need to see her again is like the flames I just fought. Ravenous.” (Melissa’s Teaser)
The history between Grace and David, the connection from their childhood, made their relationship seem so easy to me. They just seemed to fit so well together right from the start.
“You fit perfectly here,” I whisper into her auburn locks. “I’ll prove it to you. In more ways than just sex. I’ll make you see how I see you.”
Even how they view each other is perfect! They are playful and sarcastic with each other (makes me think of me and my husband – who was a firefighter when we met as I finished up my teaching degree ;) )
“Hold on a second while I get my ovaries to function again. Hot, firefighter David, who takes care of his parents, also donates his time to raising money for underprivileged school. Oh, and did I mention he was hot. Like ridiculously so?”
“She’s unapologetically nerdy, painfully sarcastic, and naturally beautiful.”
I couldn’t put From the Wreckage down, I had to keep watching them and learning all about them, I wanted to be them. Of course every story has its ups and downs, this is no different. I almost didn’t go on at one point (that’s when I began messaging Melissa, by heart was hurting and I just didn’t know what to do!) Melissa gives us such unique love, strong bonds and amazing characters. You will want to just live in their world and experience it all with them!
If you cross paths with someone at an early age, do you forget them? If that person has a profound impact on your life and you never see them again, what do you do? Search for them? Pine for them? Forget they existed?
For David and Grace, that's kind of what happened. After knowing each other for a short time and surviving a tragedy as children, they won't see each other again for eighteen years.
A chance encounter leads them on their path of love and allows them to rediscover and learn what they lost during their time apart spanning nearly two decades.
“If you spend your life worrying about what could be, you’ll never leave yourself enough time to enjoy what is.”
Grace has never forgotten the boy that saved her life. He's always been in the back of her head, whether it's in her new firefighter romance book or a memory of years previous.
Saving Grace eighteen years prior molded David into the man he is in the present. He's amazing at his job and loves every minute of it. He's the good guy you want your parents to meet and be proud to know.
From the Wreckage is the latest complete standalone by Melissa Collins. Her contemporary story telling is on point time after time. David and Grace's story is one of love, loss and rebirth and it's an absolutely beautiful ride.
I knew this was going to be a emotionally tough read for me. Not because I knew much about the actual story, but because I knew about the dedication and the loss that this author felt the day the world stopped turning. I don’t think there is anyone that doesn’t know exactly where they were when the World Trade Center Towers in New York fell. I think everyone in the country was affected on 9/11. But for Melissa Collins, the events of the day hit closer to home and just knowing that, I knew this would be a tough read for me.
What I didn’t expect was that it was more than just a romance story written down. It was a lesson in life. It was about kindness and compassion, understanding and devotion. It was waiting for that one person your entire life and never knowing if you would get the chance. Knowing that person was the one who helped make your life worth living, even as a small child.
David Andrews, a firefighter with the NYFD wanted more out of life. But until the moment he saw her in that bar, she had only existed in his dreams. The dreams he clung to. From the moment he saved her when she was six years old, there was always a place inside him that stirred when he thought about her and what happened to her after, when he thought about what she had become.
Grace always loved David. He was her hero as a child. He starred in her dreams. He was everything she could have wanted in a man, but she didn’t know him as a man. Only as the 11-year-old boy who saved her life.
These two were perfect for one another from the moment their eyes connected in that smoky bar. From that moment, she knew. He knew. It was so much more. The instant connection between these two was beautiful. It was strong from the moment their eyes connected.
You couldn’t help but fall in love with David’s personality and kindness. He was the man that made everything better for others, always others first. You just couldn’t help but admire his dedication to his job to his family and to the one woman who changed his world. His reason for being a firefighter.
David and Grace were meant for one another in everyway possible. The passion, the fire and the desire were all perfect when they were together. One thing I loved most about David and Grace, even though their careers are two completely different things, they both dedicated themselves to helping those around them. Giving back more than they receive. A teacher and a firefighter.
My eyes fill with tears for both David and Grace even now with the events that happen in the book. It is not just a love story, it is a life lesson and for me I found great comfort in the people that these two not only were but who they become.
As I said at the beginning, I knew this would be a tough read knowing that it would touch on the events of 9/11, but Melissa Collins took an approach to that day with such beauty and ease. I was touched and hurt all over again. But I was also reminded of the promises we all made to our love ones in the aftermath of the tragedy. It was the strength and support from those that surrounded those directly affected that day that pulled them through and it is a great reminder, that though loved ones were lost, we will never forget.
This book was emotional for me, but the beauty behind the words is what I loved the most. Melissa Collins has done something truly unforgettable with this book and it is a book that will stay with me a very long time. The passion, the tragedy, the pain and most of all, the love. This book touched a place deep inside and I know that I will be re-reading this one time and time again.
This book had me struggling to form coherent thought. It’s moving, thoughtful, and seriously GREAT. I was not anticipating the emotional reaction I would have to this story, or how I would respond so strongly to Grace’s deep strength and beautiful love. I was not planning on seeing that lone tear track down my cheek and drip to my chest and I was a little caught off guard when that happened.
Gracie and David's story started when they were kids. He saved her from the wreckage - literally. Her family's house caught on fire and David pulled her to safety. Now, Melissa could have just recounted that story for us, but she didn't. She throws you into the middle of it, let the flames lap and flick around you, and sucks you in to the emotion of this story from the very beginning.
When they meet up again 18 years later it’s all awkwardness and adorableness and strange feelings of possessiveness when neither has a claim over the other. It’s utterly fantastic, romantic and perfect. Their love is epic. It’s a pure kind of love – it’s hot, sexy, and on fire. It’s the kind of love that is needed to survive what happens next. I won’t be spoilery but OHMYGOD. I knew something was going to happen but I did.not.expect.THAT.
Melissa has a gift of writing tragedy in a way that makes you want more of it. I know, that sounds sort of creepy. Sorrynotsorry. The only way that this story works is with the intense connection between the character’s and the profound love of Gracie McCann. She is a force to be reckoned with – a shy but powerful tornado that holds firm when everything else is up in the air. I LOVED HER.
I also loved this story. It will pluck at your feels and, YES, there’s a lot of awesome sex in there too to uhh, pluck at other places. FROM THE WRECKAGE is poignant and gloriously raw. It has the makings of everything I love in a romance book and it deserves every single one of those 5 stars!
About half way through the book I realized that From the wreckage is the kind of book that Gracie would read since it's a book that has a hero a hot fireman. But the story is more than that. The whole point of the story wasn't the romance between two characters, but the work and effort people like David put to keep us safe. When I will remember this book, I will remember the people who died on 9/11. The book made me appreciate life a little more. I had underestimated first thinking that this book is just a the romance between two met who once knew each other, but that wasn't the case.
Before you say complain about spoilers, I will say that David is not dead by the end of the book since the story happens in 2015. The wreckage that's in the title happens in the second part of the book and I would have liked to see it explored a little more. I get why the author chose to pay more attention to the first time where the relationship between the two characters is established, but I felt that we should give seen more of the wreck. I didn't see that twist coming, but I guess it was to be expected considering everything in this book.
The end is not exactly what an average reader would consider a satisfying ending, which means that everything is not magically solved for the characters we met in this book. The happy ending existence, but it's more realistic and the kind of ending I would have chosen for this kind of story. I wouldn't mind reading another book about the same characters or Jase and Ian.
The book is very good and I predict that people will need tissues when they read it. As I was finishing writing my review I realized that I would have liked to see a little more of Gracie's family especially after what happens in the prologue. I will recommend this book simply because I stayed up until 4 AM to finish it. I wanted to see what was going to happen next and I couldn't put it down. The writing is simple, but it makes the reader to keep reading for more and you can't help, but simply fall for the characters.
This is a feel good story, like it should be on the Hallmark channel.
Grace is saved by David when they are children. Her house is on fire and he pulls her to safety. That seals his fate.
18 years later and David is still pining for Grace. He's never been in a relationship, just a string of girls. His job as a firefighter keeps him busy, but then he bumps into Grace at the bar. She's perfect. But Grace wants to go slow, she's had a pretty rough record with guys. So friends it is! But how long will that last with sexy David pursuing her hard. They fall into a easy relationship, after Grace agrees to help care for David. Things blossom, just like David hoped and wanted. His dream is becoming a reality with Grace. But like all good love stories, there must a monkey to throw a wrench in stuff and when this monkey does, it's horrible.
I actually ugly cried. It was bad! Bad! But worth it. So worth it.
This book is written in Grace and David's POV. They each have a side kick, Grace has Jade and David has Ian. That seems like it would be a good story too--hint hint!
I will recommend this book to my romance addicted friends!
Melissa. Collins has outdone herself yet again. She has that something special that lets you know she loves to write. Her characters aren't just characters, they are people; people who have real feelings, real struggles, real flaws, and real strengths. She allows you to experience the journey of her characters right along with them.
From the Wreckage is breathtaking, intense, consuming, heartbreaking, emotional, funny, and ridiculously sexy. The author pulls you into the story from the very first page and keeps you in her grasp until the very end, and even then you are demanding more.
Okay, okay, okay… I think I am steadily standing on my feet now. So let me thank Melissa Collins for allowing me a copy of this novel to read in exchange for an honest review. This is my first Melissa Collins book and… I can say it won't be the last.
This book is not what I expected...not at all. It was better. I knew from reading the first page this one was going to make me cry. I even told my fiance Lauren “This one’s gonna make me cry.” She asked why and all I could say was “I’m not sure, I just feel it.” But crying is not bad, crying is good and man did I let it go a few times. This story has more heart than the Grinch got back on Christmas morning. It has its own beat and groves to the music in your soul.
Now.. here it is..
When Gracie is young her world revolves around David. The cute older next door neighbor. What she doesn’t know is that one night when her house catches fire he will be her unseen angel. Finding her and leading rescuers to her. Thanks to the fire though the family's home was destroyed. They moved and Grace never got to see her angel again. That was until a chance encounter 18 years later. Both were now grown adults. David a local fireman (a hawt one at that) and Gracie a new graduate on the prowl for a teaching position. Its that night, that one encounter that changes their path quickly.
David saves Gracie from an arsehat ‘boyfriend’ and his man handling ways in a club. It takes them a minute to realize who each other is. But that one moment starts off a chain of events that are like a wild ride. The awkwardness turns into “what if” that leads then to a new start when David is injured during a ball game to which he had invited Gracie. Gracie goes home to take care of him, you know a way to repay him for what he has done for her. It was a perfect setup for a way to start again.
David and Gracie definitely share a bond. One that stems from childhood. I mean, really who wouldn’t still be in love with the man that, as a child, was her hero. As their relationship takes off life is good. Gracie, thanks to David’s name dropping, finds a great job teaching and is able to start living out that dream. Something she has worked her butt off for. The daily worry and struggle to not freak out when David was at work starts to weigh on Gracie. I mean, I don’t blame her. First responders are always in the line of fire (no pun intended) when it comes to danger. He could be hurt, or worse, not make it home after a call.
A day that should have been filled with memories, showing love and thanks turns black. Gracie’s world is turned upside down and it’s now a struggle, more than it ever has been to get the life that they once had back. Just reminds us all that tomorrow is not promised so live today as if it’s your last.
This story is one that I can see me reading again, soon. Even if it’s going to put me in a book hangover. I usually don’t have that happen but my God… Melissa’s story is so full of emotions and that balancing act between what’s right and what the characters want and need is… all kinds of crazy. This book made me laugh, cry, shake my head and cry some more. Not only for the characters but by the fact that Melissa added a piece of real history in From the Wreckage. September 11th is a big part of this book. The backbone to a few parts. And honestly it’s what adds the emotional wreckage to this story. But that day changed every Americans life in one way or another. I do not personally know anyone that was lost that day but it does not mean I didn't mourn all the lives that were lost. I still pray for their families and the ones that made it out. Thanks you Melissa for making a story worth the memories and tears. Do look forward to more in the future!
I am now officially all teared out – I have taken stock options in Kleenex and if you need me I can be found rocking in the corner of the room. This is the sort of story that films are made from and I would be first in the queue.
This is the absolute epitome of what it means to love someone, of what having someone hold your heart can do to a person and of being able to release your emotions enough to give that last little piece of you over to someone else, the little bit of you they completes the jigsaw puzzle of their life, that when snapped into place in their heart brings them and you back to life – starts your heart beating and you stop existing and start to truly live. I’m rambling I know but I just adored this book!!!!
Grace and David have been connected since they were children, when he pulled her from her house fire he put her straight in his heart at that very tender age and even though they grew up and went their very different ways, that little piece always remained.
David continued the path that was determined on that day and he is now a sexy assed firefighter and if the uniform doesn’t get you going his handsome face certainly will.
Grace studied hard and has recently completed her teacher training but that all elusive job offer hasn’t materialized yet.
After more than 18 years, the eternity that he has spent rueing the time they have been apart, he is given a glimpse of what they could have when he bumps into her in a local bar. There isn’t a hope in hell that he is going to let her slip through his fingers again…this time it is for keeps!
But Grace is in no rush to get back in the merry go round that is relationships – she has been on that ride before and it is not something that she is keen to repeat but when David needs her help, she is there to help the man that means more to her than she would ever have considered possible.
They slip back into a comfortable relationship and that aspect of the book was fantastic, they were able to build a relationship that was everything not only they but I wanted for them. They had their future in the palm of their hands until events deal them an unwelcome and harsh blow.
Their lives will never be the same again and I don’t think I will either, I was left completely agog at the events and the emotions that the book brought to the fore, the memories of the danger and peril of the men and women who put their lives on the line ever day to protect society.
The author wrote a book that gave me the opportunity to think about its content, to superimpose the feelings that it stirred into my own day to day life and to remember that life is precious. She illuminated not only the fear and trepidation of the events but she made sure to balance all the misery with displays of hope and perseverance.
Life is a struggle so they say and some struggle more than others but when life deals you a lemon – you have to decide to make lemonade or whether to say sod it and crack open the tequila.
Jen's Review
Wow, this book is one of those that will have you stopping in your tracks and really taking a second to really appreciate all that we are fortunate for. Life is hard and there is a lot of good and bad out there. It is unfair at times and when you least expect it everything can change in the blink of an eye. What had me stopping and taking pause was the lessons that this book really gives us. Life is short, we aren’t promised tomorrow or even yesterdays. What matters is today and holding the people we love close no matter how hard it can be. Every life is precious and no one should be forgotten.
I can’t even tell you how touching this story is. It will certainly renew your faith in true love because if you take anything away from this story it will be that. David and Grace were made for each other. Time, events or life did nothing to severe the kind of connection these characters had. The energy and pull between them was palpable and there wasn’t a single time you didn’t feel like they belonged together. They had so much passion and love between them that even when faced with something really devastating you never lose sight on the power of their love.
This story is real and genuine. The fact that Melissa is able to bring you back to a horrible time when the world changed and really have you thinking about how important it is to always remember those who lost their lives was done in such a graceful, heartfelt and compassionate way. David and Grace’s journey really had me reflecting. I can’t even begin to describe how much respect I have for the both of them. David and Grace have faced some difficult things and their road wasn’t always easy but it is definitely a journey you won’t want to miss out on.
Melissa’s dedication to her uncle was truly beautiful and I felt his memory within these pages. There is real rawness and honesty throughout each page and it certainly has me appreciating my loved ones a lot more. Even though there are some emotional scenes within the storyline rest assured it’s not all sad. This book really is a feel good, sweet story with some pretty remarkable characters. You will swoon and fall in love with these characters and their journey.
I implore everyone to give this book a chance. This book is just so beautifully written that you won’t be able to walk away not thinking about what truly matters.
5 Love will Survive the Wreckage Stars
Are we predestined to find love?
Are we wired to find the one we are supposed to be with even when we things beyond our control tear us apart? Can we make our way back to each other even after the Wreckage?
David Andrews has known since at a young age that he was destined to save people. He started making good on that at the young age of 10 when he saved young Gracie McCann. Now as an adult David is a proud member of the New York Fire Department. Through all David’s great achievements he still longs for something to complete him. He also wonders what ever happened to Gracie the young girl he saved.
Gracie McCann has just completed her final year at college. She wants to be a teacher. She knows what she wants out of life, but is something missing? Gracie does have a lingering thought, one that she will never get the answer to, whatever happened to her hero David?
A chance meeting throws these two back into each other life. Are they meant to meet? Are they meant to find each other?
From the Wreckage is a beautiful story of finding who you are destined to be with. David and Gracie grow closer and develop an attraction to each other that neither one of them can explain or deny. But can this be it, are they supposed to be each other’s destiny? Even after all the years apart? And when something beyond anyone’s control happens can they find their way back? This is a story of finding your soulmate not once but twice. This is a must read.
Melissa knows how to write a wonderful emotional packed contemporary romance! Yes I admit I cried in parts of this book but it was so worth it!
I am a die hard Melissa Collins fan, having read every single book Collins has published, I dived into From The Wreckage expecting nothing but perfection. And once again I was not disappointed. In what can only be described as a novel that accentuates the true meaning of allegiance, devotion and love.
Having a childhood friendship, that impacted one another deeply, Grace and David are forever altered when they part ways. As David grows up into a mature, responsible and handsome fire fighter. Grace is a straight out of college English teacher, looking for work. After years of reminiscing and picturing a future encounter, David and Grace unexpectedly cross paths.
Determined to not let this opportunity slip, Grace and David seamlessly fit into each other's lives. As they're falling head over heels for one another and planning their happily ever after; the unthinkable happens. Reminders of life as a firefighter and the risks that come with it are scattered throughout the second half of this book. Having readers anxiously waiting for all the ways the lives of David and Grace can and will change.
Identifying personally with the characters allows Melissa Collins to weave romance into some of the most difficult and traumatic memories for the firefighters on New York City. Offering spark and hope in moments of solemnity, Collins brings to life danger, heartache and fears, whilst highlighting the importance of love, determination and hope.
From The Wreckage will be a story that stays with you always. To be used as a reflection for our every day lives, Melissa Collins reminds us to find love and hope, that happiness may still be found after tragedy.
4.5 Stars!
This author continues to amaze me. Each book she has written has spoken to me deeply. She can bring out the feels and tons of sexy times to make you blush and swoon all at the same time. Her heroes are so written so beautifully that you can't help but fall for them hard. And her heroines are smart, sassy, and show amazing strength. Grab one of her books and get lost in her world.
This book is amazing. Powerful, intense, passionate, heartbreaking, beautiful... just a few words that help describe this reading experience. This book will move you and make you believe in fate and second chances. This book will speak to your soul and make you a believer in love. This book will bring out tons of emotions and feels in you but I promise it will all be worth it by the end.
This is David and Grace's story. He was her savior... her knight in shining armor... her light in the flames. Now, eighteen years later, fate steps in and their paths cross once again. Happenstance. Fate. Whatever it is, their connection cannot be denied. David and Grace have a second chance at something that is once in a lifetime. Something real. Something beautiful. Something amazing. Something perfect. But like life, it will not be easy for these two. They will face obstacles and their love will be tested. Can they survive the road ahead and find their happy ending?
I highly recommend this book.
I don't know what I appreciated more out of this book. It could have been the rawness in the memory of Lt. David or the fact that while reading this story I got a true glimpse of Melissa as the teacher, survivor, lover, the family honoring a hero, and the friend. I fell back in love with the idea of "true love". Grace and David have just that, "true love". Given the battle and nature of their coming together you have no choice but to get lost in the story or in my case the stories within the story.
You will open your heart and feel as well as appreciate the gift of service men and women whether they are teachers, police officers, or fire fighters. They need recognition and Melissa delivered that in one line in this book. When you read it you will know. Just pure perfection. You will cherise the love you have for your mate because tomorrow is not promised and neither was yesterday. You will drink wine and chill with your bff and lift each other up when times look grey. Most of all you will laugh.
I absolutely LOVED this book.
Wow. Just wow. That’s how this book was. The fact that it took Melissa 2 years to write and is dedicated to her uncle makes it even more special and memorable. This is more than a second chance romance it’s a ‘the stars align and fate steps in’ kind of book. It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It was a story that left a place in my heart long after the last page was read.
This story made me laugh and cry. There were lots of laughs and smiles but oh boy, how I cried. This story was raw and real taking us on a rollercoaster of emotions. I devoured this story not wanting to put it down.
Note this book isn’t about 9/11 but Melissa weaves a story with references to that tragic event while never taking away from the core story. It brings tears to my eyes to remember the events of 9/11 and just how impacted that was on so many lives. Melissa silently pays tribute to the heroes who gave their life and honors them respectively.
It was a heart-wrenching, lovely story that won’t be leaving me anytime soon.
This book, so. many. feels. I loved it! The cuteness of the plot is so perfect. David 4 years older than Grace saves her when she is little and stuck in a house fire. They never see each other until 18 years later, and they are drawn to each other. Although that may seem far fetched it wasn't it was natural and they fit perfectly. David is over the top sweet, caring, and a hot dirty talking fireman. Grace is funny, clumsy, driven, and so sweet and caring. Their dynamic is real, their story has depth, and even the side characters are interesting. Grace and David can banter like non-other and their flirting is so sweet. Their is so much more than just a steamy story about a hot fireman and a clumsy teacher. It's not about 9/11 but it does pay tribute to those that gave and lost there lives on that day, Melissa writes it in a way that is beautiful and respectful.
5 stars....I couldn't put it down and I enjoyed ever second of this story.
Omg, I have not cried so much in my life. When I started this book this afternoon, I couldn't put this book down, I didn't even want to cook dinner. This is the first time I have ever read Melissa Collins book and I must say that I was over whelmed by how emotional this book was. I cried at very memory of Grace's and how her and David found each other again and to lose him again it was heart breaking but in the end their heart knew that it will always be them. Ms. Collins I must say you have a new fan.
FROM THE WRECKAGE was one of those books that presented the "perfect" couple and then gave them a horrible situation to overcome. Given how "perfect" they had been before the situation, I wasn't certain what was going to happen now that they faced this huge obstacle. It may have come at the last 1/4 of the book, but what came out of that was proof that love can overcome some pretty horrible odds. David and Gracie proved that and it made this an incredibly heartwarming story to read.
