Robert Gandt's fighter jock hero Brick Maxwell and his F/A-18 Super Hornet are hurtling off the carrier deck of the USS Ronald Reagan to stop China from using a state-of-the-art superstealth warplane to take over Taiwan. But with a beautiful defector of dubious loyalties guiding him, Maxwell's mission could take a wrong turn at any moment...
A rip roaring adventure featuring the PRC and stealth bombers. Gandt is very good at describing dog fights in the sky and has an inside knowledge of Navy fighter pilots. An absolutely thrilling page turner.
I guess let me start by saying I am definitely not the target audience, I had a bit of a hard time getting through this. It's all military jargon, and jet-fighter radio talk, politics and war. I don't know anything about any of that.
At pg 80, there was a really good chance this was going into the DNF shelf. At pg 126ish I caved and looked up the Goodreads rating, knowing if it was less than 3 stars I wasn't going to finish it. Look at that, 4.2 stars, so gaaaaah fine, I'll finish the damn book! At pg 160, I'm finally relatively interested in the story. At about pg 190 the story is good. and then it just gets better and better the rest of the way.
3 stars, honestly a low 3 stars because at no point was I "unable to put the book down" - I could have walked away from this book at any time, it was pure determination getting me through this book. - Danielle, you never have to read again.
Once again Robert Gandt has written an extremely exciting and entertaining book. This book will grab and keep your interest from beginning to end. Excellent!
