The alphabet hits the road in this vividly illustrated picture book featuring all things that go!
Buckle up for an alphabetical road trip in Ramon Olivera’s ABCs of Wheels! In this book, kids will learn their ABCs in the fast lane. From A is for axle to Z is for zoom, young children will be introduced to taxis, hot rods, moon rovers, stagecoaches, racecars, ice cream trucks, and more in a celebration of where the wheels meet the road.
Refreshing and unique, this concept book is filled with bold, graphic illustrations that race off the page!
This is a great ABC book for those little ones who love cars, car parts, fixing cars, racing cars, and pretty much, all things on wheels. The illustrations were bright and colorful and I liked how some of the pages showed opposites. My boy would have loved this as a little kid.
This ABC book is different from all the others. This book contains different real life situations that everyone is going to have to experience at least once in their lives. It has the bold letter clearly on each page with a short sentence to follow of what is happening in the picture below. I like these kind of ABC books for children because I feel like not only are they memorizing the alphabet, but they're learning situations that go along with the certain letter.
Alphabet books (and vehicle books) are kind of a dime a dozen, but I really liked how this one paired or integrated adjacent letters ("E is for Empty, F is for Full", "T is for Track, U is for Underdog, V is for Victory Lane, W is for Winner!"), so there are lots of small narratives and the words are well-contextualized while sticking to super-simple text.
I love the bright and detailed illustrations (🔥 on a hot rod!) in this alphabet book all about cars/trucks and their parts. I also really like the flow of this picture book as each set of pages features objects that either correspond together or are opposites, a very cool idea.
I read this book to Cassie and one of her friends during story time. I enjoyed the illustrations in this book as they are colorful but I do wish they used actually pictures for each of the items. I feel like using pictures can help kids recognize it from in the world. Some of the letters were forced in finding something relating to wheels to go with a few of the letters. Cassie really enjoyed this book though and has been caught looking at the book throughout the day. This book is pretty easy to read aloud and is really simple of a book great for toddlers.
Plot Summary: This alphabet book is all about things on wheels and parts that go along with driving a car. Each letter represents a car part or vehicle that starts with that letter. Although there are not many words on each page, the pictures help to teach the reader the letter. This book can help children extend their vocabulary by the many things that they see in each picture. Literary Merit: In this book, the style stands out. Each letter of the alphabet is larger than the rest of the text. It makes them more obvious to the reader so they know what letter is being talked about. It also shows the lowercase and uppercase letter to show children that they can be written both ways. Reader Response/Classroom Connection: I would use this book in a preschool classroom to teach them about the letters and the objects that represent those sounds. Some children may never have been exposed to car parts or different types of vehicles so it would be a good opportunity to introduce those objects to them. I might have them share aloud the different experiences they may have had with the different vehicles. Then, they could go back to their seats and draw their favorite one from the story.
Great alphabet book, especially for those that love cars, trucks, anything that goes! It is a fun way to look at a variety of different words for transportation. the illustrations are simple and engaging. The colors aren't too bright, but bright enough to capture the readers attention. Great book for toddlers!
I was ready to be wild about this one as it is geared for your boys and yes, some girls, because it is about vehicles on wheels. However the illustrations as some points were telling a coherent "storyline" about vehicles found on our streets and what happens to them. One double page spread when from depicting a car hooked up to a computer for a check up which is the current way of checking vehicles to the following page depicting Rr is for rover showing the rover driving on the moon. That was a jolt for me. Should have kept to a "current street vehicle theme". Obviously I think some of the illustrations for the letters were out of theme here as the first two thirds of the illustrations seem to have one.
Liked it. Straightforward A-Z book with all things 4-wheeled (and a brief appearance by some motorbikes). Cute illustrations, with some spiffy moments happening - like the New/Old car spread.
There was one thing that I noticed, and once I realized it, I couldn't unsee it - every page doubles the letters, like Jj, Kk. Ll, etc. And it just reminded me of Mitch Hedberg complaining that he never learned his Aa Bb Ccs.
I thought this book was extremely well done. The design was great, the choices for the letters were great. I can only think of two or three minor flaws, and I'm only thinking that deeply because I think it could be a Caldecott contender. I love the color choices. I think it's a very smart and sharp book.
I love, love the illustrations in this book. Beautiful! I'm a bit frustrated with the vocabulary used. The theme is wheels. Ok, great. The majority of the vocab is focused on cars: cars, trucks, tractors, limos. However, R is for rover, as in the Mars Rover and S is for stagecoach. Kinda confusing for kids.
I think this is an okay alphabet book. Kids who really love things that go will like it a lot. There are a lot of opportunities to use a flannel/felt board, toys, and more with this book because there are so many wheeled things out there. The illustrations are very cute and it is fun to read.
