(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author M.M. Roethig.)

“What is it that Elzar wants?” “He wants you.”

This was an okay story, but I lost interest after a while.

The characters in this were all okay, but I didn’t really love any of them. Kaden was quite stubborn, and set in his ways, and Raine was fairly normal and made some questionable decisions at times. How on earth she thought that salad was divine I don’t know. Pizza, ice-cream, chocolate – I’ll let you have that, but SALAD? SALAD?

“Their salad is divine if you like salads.”

The storyline in this was about Raine discovering her powers over the elements and learning about her heritage. I found that quite a bit of stuff was repeated from book 1, but because we were told it rather than being shown it, it all felt a bit heavy and dragged a bit.

“My dear, over the years Elementals have become a hunted species by those who don’t understand us. They have sought to kill us and, as Kayla says, they deserve nothing less.”

I was disappointed with this book partly because it was so different to book 1. Elemental princess was pure fantasy, with a bit of romance, whilst this story was more paranormal contemporary, and I just didn’t like it as much as Elemental Princess.

There was a little bit of romance, but it didn’t interest me, probably because I didn’t really care all that much for the characters.

“Kaden deepened the kiss as he slanted his mouth over hers, his hands firmly pressed against her back.”

I didn’t really feel like much was tied up at the end, but I was ready for the book to finish. Apologies to the author, but I feel this was maybe a case of wrong book wrong person.
6 out of 10.

"It won't be long now. She's coming, the most gifted Elemental being this world has ever seen."

Raine Patterson Has lived her life oblivious to the fact that she's an Elemental. And an incredibly powerful one at that. She was content with blending in at school, and being a normal teenage girl. But when a new boy, Kaden Williams arrives at school, Raine's normal teenage life gets thrown right out the window. Drawn to Kaden right from the start, she is surprised when his friendliness suddenly turns into something that is the complete opposite. And if that isn't enough to think about, she suddenly has the attention of almost every boy in school. But all of that is only the beginning of the changes about to take place in her world.

Raine was such a strong character. Her life gets thrown into a tail spin with revelations, secrets and loss. At each stage she accepted what was placed in front of her and stood tall to do what needed to be done. Even when she could have given up and fallen apart she accepted challenges head on with a real maturity. Yes, she had moments of weakness, and that was what made her such a likeable character. She questions things, and thinks, and tries to do the right thing.

He was tired of feeling the hurt and regret that followed him everywhere he went, but that was who he was, who he'd become, and there was no changing it.

Raine is told from the point of view of both Raine and Kaden. I loved being able to get inside Kaden's head the most. It was perfect to be able to witness his struggle with things first hand. He's been raised to believe that Elementals are the cause of his fathers death and the world should be rid of them. Imagine his anguish when he learns that this may not be the case. This all had such a big impact on his feelings for Raine, and even when he was struggling the most, you could just sense the goodness in his heart.

She couldn't explain why she felt so drawn to him, and why she had an almost irresistible desire to trust him.

M.M. Roethig handled the romantic aspect really well. After the initial attraction, it moved along at a really steady pace. And as you learn Kaden's back story it made the relationship between him and Raine so much more believable.

The action and conflict throughout the story was a real constant. Especially for the second half of the book where things built to the perfect, powerful and intense, edge of your seat battle. Throw in a few twists and turns and this book had me hooked from the get go. I will definitely be grabbing the next book in the series and continuing the next exciting stage of Raine and Kaden's journey.

3.75/5 Stars.

A big thank you to the author for providing me with this review copy.

Raine was just amazing as it's prequel.

I was right on some of the parts I've guessed and others I totally did not see coming. I have some questions that hopefully gets some answers. i was shocked to find out when some of those secrets were revealed.

All the characters were likeable although I disliked Kaden at the beginning for his treatment of Raine. I loved Raine. ashe was one of those few heroines who seems weak yet strong but not the irritating/annoying type. I liked how she was hesitant at first when she learned about Elementals but was able to believe it. She wasn't stubborn about it. It was sad that . I kind of pity Kaden as well. I wished things could have gone differently but that person was weak. I never expected that tidbit and I'm glad that Raine was able to take those reminders away from Kaden.

This too were sweet just like Kaden's grandparents. And he also has the same stubborness as his grandfather.

The other characters were interesting. Skye's past was sad. I felt for him and it reminded me how angry I was at both Elzar and Especially Isa. Then there's Autumn. Not much is known about her background but the ending made more curious about her especially that blonde woman. I too am wondering who she was or I think she is whom I thought she was.

And I'm glad for the Aria talked. Raine just need a little push in the right direction. And I know that Kaden would make good in maing it up to her which he is also doing now.

I can't wait for the next book. I wonder how many books will be in this series? I hoped the other characters get their story too. They were very interesting. I also loved how the fae was involved.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Completely ignorant she is an Elemental, Raine Patterson reaches her eighteenth birthday, and her world falls apart. The new boy in class won't stay out of her thoughts, every other boy in school suddenly finds her irresistible, and strange things happen at swim practice every time she hits the water. Before she can sort out her feelings or ask her father for help, Raine's father is ripped from her life and the new boy, Kaden Williams is telling her things that don't make sense, even as he offers her protection from an evil for reasons she's not sure she can trust. With a beautiful name and beautiful premise, Raine, is a fresh contemporary fantasy that makes the gift of controlling the elements along with other surprises from the fey and fantasy realms feel like every day, normal reality.

Author M.M. Roethig has crafted an exciting story of epic potential with a relatable, courageous heroine who discovers her power to control and magnify the power of water. The writing is tight with great backstory, and an unexpected curveball brings events to an emotional, page-turning pinnacle. Stir in a soul wrenching attraction between Raine and her newly assigned guardian, and you have a tender romance that sweeps and builds along with encounters between the historical race of gifted Elementals and those who want to use them to rule the world.

Raine is an easy to escape into adventure that never slows down. It leaves the door wide open for much more, and I look forward to seeing what's next. Based on the fascinating idea of controlling forces of nature, Roethig has created a unique and current read that fantasy readers of all ages will want to dive into and enjoy.

It takes a gifted writer to snare the reader from the first page of a story. M.M. Roethig does just that in Raine, crafting a hero and heroine who will capture your heart and have you championing them along, especially as they begin to understand not only who they are but how each fits into the life of the other. Raine, a High School Senior, has no idea she has hidden powers, or even how important her abilities to control the elements are. Strange things are happening to her and she doesn't know who she can trust. That makes it harder when she begins to receive mixed signals from the handsome new boy in class, who is fighting his own inner battles of right and wrong.

From the moment Raine and Kaden meet up, you know something is going to happen, and the story and suspense build from there. The author does a fantastic job setting up believable relationships between her main hero and heroine, and weaves in additional characters who are engaging and necessary to move the plot forward. This book will make you think. After all, the Elementals and other magicals lived among the rest of the population without anyone knowing it. It will also make you feel, and ultimately, you’ll fall in love with the main characters and with the story, just like I did. I’m anxious to see where the journey takes Raine and Kaden and look forward to more books in this series.

As a previous fan of this author’s shorter works, I was ecstatic to receive an Advance Reader Copy, and pleased to be able to offer my review of a very worthwhile book.

Intense action from beginning to end, Raine takes you on a ride of magic in a world where Elemental live among us. "Natural" disasters are Elemental's way of destroying the humans and a war is coming that one person can stop.

Reading this book played out like a movie in my head, I really felt I was in Seaside Oregon. I really liked reading the story from both the main characters, Raine and Kaden, and wondering what would happen next. I am anxious for the next book in the series.

In her new book, Raine, M.M.Roethig takes us to a world where Elementals are hidden in plain sight. Magical beings that can control the elements are going to war. The evil Elementals are trying to destroy mankind by using the forces of nature. Mortals are unaware of the danger they face, thinking the destructive natural catastrophes are just common everyday happenings. An unknown hero finds herself at the center of this chaos. She must find the strength to accept a new life, trust a boy who when they first met wanted nothing more than to see her dead, and to save mankind. You're going to love this book!

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and how complicated their lives become as they learn to work together as the truth about where they are from and what they are to do is revealed to them.
I loved how the story is constantly taking you into some new twist and turn in their adventures. I could not put it down... never a dull moment... Life kept getting in the way of my reading... I can't wait for the next installment in the series.

M.M. Roethig has given us a wonderful story of Raine in her senior year of high school discovering she is an elemental. An elemental has the power of the element. Each time Raine is near water strange things happen. Of course there is a boy! There is suspense! It is save the world type suspense and you will enjoy every word.

I was surprised at how much I liked this book. It may be cliche to say this but, I was hooked after the first sentence. It was a bit slow when Raine would have a dream with Aria in it and when parts from the first book were mentioned. But overall a good read!

Refreshing tale of love, betrayal, and spectacular feats. Unputdownable with a cast of characters so real, you’d wish they could live on past the pages.

Raine Patterson, thrust into a world she knows little about, finds she can control water. She's always had a love of water, felt at home it, but her powers were not awakened until a dark and incredibly handsome guy transfers to her school. Can this be a coincidence?

I loved the paranormal aspects of this book and the love story and growth in Raine. However, there were a few things that, for me, slowed the action, a few holes in the story and at times too much description. That said, I still really liked the world M.M. Roethig created and can't wait to read more from her. Next on the list is Elemental Princess: Royal Lines which is actually the first book in this series, which might explain some of the holes I found.

Hey, that was unexpectedly a good ride. Even though the Hero was a jerk, and the heroine kept on blushing and unrealistically calm even after her father died because of her.
