Something’s not right about agent Jo Modeen’s latest mission. But how can she question orders from team leader Ben Logan VC MG, a man she trusted with her life in the past and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again? She must decide whether to follow her orders, or her instincts. Under deep cover even from NatSec, Modeen’s team disperses to unravel the web of secrets surrounding the mission. It takes them from country Victoria to Australia’s national capital, across the ocean to Kabul in Afghanistan, and into the heart of enemy territory…. BLACK OPS is the third thrilling instalment in the action-packed Jo Modeen series. ** While the stories in this series can stand alone, they are best enjoyed when read in sequence **
The Jo Modeen 1 - 3: Has a preview of the books, which I appreciate knowing what they're about before I read them. Well written, fast paced and action packed storylines with intelligent, realistic characters and events. I actually believe the author knew what he was writing about unlike some "writers" today who are clueless about weapons, training and combat fighting and action, but are liked by readers who know even less. It's easy to chain read the Modeen series without becoming bored or tired. Job well done, Jordan. I found this author through AXP and contacted him. 5*
The Modeen Factor #1 - Ends in a cliffhanger! My only complaint about this book is the cliffhanger ending. Well written, interesting, intriguing storyline with intelligent, realistic characters, along with realistic dialog. Vivid descriptions and realistic actions and events.The story is hard to put down and is fast paced. Enjoyed the Aussie dialect and colloquialisms. 5*
The Modeen Transformation #2 - Starts where the first book ended. Well written, interesting, intriguing storyline with intelligent, realistic characters, along with realistic dialog. Vivid descriptions and realistic actions and events.The story is hard to put down and is fast paced. Enjoyed the Aussie dialect and colloquialisms. 5*
Modeen Black Ops #3 - Picks up during the party from Ben's side of the involvement. Well written, interesting, intriguing storyline with intelligent, realistic characters, along with realistic dialog. Vivid descriptions and realistic actions and events.The story is hard to put down and is fast paced. Enjoyed the Aussie dialect and colloquialisms. 5*
I’m not that happy with the way the author keeps repeating what happened at the end of the previous book at the start of each new book. In the previous book the ‘Spear of Allah’ were a fairly inept organisation, so I found it a bit strange they were able to plan and carry out this operation totally in secret. Have the ‘secret services’ not been watching for potential terrorists? However I really enjoyed the story even though it had the odd annoying little moment, for example;
Book three of the series starts off pretty much just after the last book. The "Spear of Allah" kidnaps Ben's wife and baby daughter in order to force him to use Modeen and the others from Ben's team to neutralise someone they don't want becoming the Ambassador to Afghanistan for Australia, and to release their leader, captive of the US.
Ben gives the team weird orders, and pretends to go along with the enemy's orders, but Modeen smells a rat, and they realise what is happening. After rescuing Ben's family, they head off to Afghanistan to stop the Spear of Allah from re-uniting with their leader.
Again, in this book, there isn't much action, but when there is, it's not badly written, but you don't feel like you are standing there with Modeen and the others as they take out the terrorists.
I've enjoyed the series so far, and look forward to the next book.
Back to four-star territory for me. Nicely paced, plenty of quick-fire action and a nice series of plot dominos expertly set up and knocked down. I was also great but sad to see a storyline resolve - and it made more poignant because of the references to aberrant behavior due to PTSD.
